Iduna was preparing breakfast on a tray for her daughter while she was thinking of a way how she could go to see Agnarr, after last night he gave her the address. She had to go there by herself and she had to think of an excuse so no one would be suspicious because Agnarr had told her that it was important for her to keep it a secret. It was for her safety, he said. She hoped that after this meeting, things would become clearer and things would get better for all.
"Good morning, Mom." Elsa suddenly greeted her from behind, as she entered the dining room.
And that, made Iduna automatically jump in surprise. She didn't understand how a normal greeting from her daughter could make her jump in surprise. She was very easily startled lately. Maybe keeping secrets really wasn't good for her. Actually, keeping secrets was never really good for everyone. But she had no other choice.
"Elsa?" Iduna turned her head from the tray and stared at her daughter, who was already dressed up in an office suit. "Why are you here? Why are you wearing that office suit? Are you going to work today?"
Elsa just smiled and sat where she used to sit, she looked better but still not really that well. "Lucy texted me this morning and told me that I have a lot of work to do. I have to go to the office, Mom." She looked at her mother and felt that the shock had not completely disappeared from her face. "Why do you look so surprised? Are you surprised that you just saw me in an office suit and going to work today?"
"No. It's not that. Uh," Iduna had to think of the reason why she was so shocked. And seeing one of her daughter's eyebrows raised, waiting for an answer, she had to think of a good reason. "You see, I'm preparing breakfast for you. I thought you would rest today and stay at home. Are you sure you're feeling good enough to go to work?"
"I was sick because of the pollen, Mom. Now that the pollen is gone, I'm feeling good already." Elsa answered, smiling at her mother.
"Are you sure?" Iduna asked still not convinced about Elsa going to work.
"Yes, Mom. Don't worry okay? I'll be fine." Elsa took her mother's hand and squeezed it gently, smiling reassuringly.
Iduna stared at Elsa for a while before she finally sighed softly. "Alright. I think, since you're here, you won't need this tray." She said, removing the contents from the tray and placing them in front of Elsa.
"Thanks, Mom." Elsa smiled even more, watching her food on the table.
Iduna then sat down and watched Elsa start eating her breakfast. And after that, she prepared her own breakfast while rethinking about her plans for today because previously, she thought her daughter would be at home all day. Now that she knew that Elsa was going to work, she thought meeting Agnarr might not be that difficult.
"Elsa?" Iduna called out, when one thing crossed her mind.
"Yes, Mom?" Elsa looked up and stopped chewing, waiting for her mother to say something.
"What time are you coming home today?" Iduna asked. She should have been home when Elsa came home.
Elsa's brow furrowed in confusion. She hadn't left yet, but why did her mother ask when she was coming home? "I don't know yet." She shrugged. "But it looks like I'll be home late. I haven't been in the office for two days so maybe I'll come home late tonight. And also, I have to go to some places today."
Okay, she had a full day. Her appointment with Agnarr was afternoon and if all went well, she would already be home by the time Elsa came home.
"Why? Are you going somewhere?" Elsa asked, noticing her mother was deep in thought.
Iduna was not ready with the question. She had to think quickly for the answer. "I have to go out to buy something."
"Do you need Kai to take you?"
"No, Sweetheart. I'll take the taxi."
"Are you sure? I can ask Kai to drop me off at the office and then he can come back to take you."
"Yes, I'm sure. Kai doesn't have to bother to take me. I'll take the taxi, okay?" Iduna said sounding so sure, it was impossible for her to go with Kai. She had to go alone. "Now, finish your breakfast."
Elsa took a deep breath as Kai stopped in front of the main entrance before finally getting out of the car. She knew by coming to the office she would meet Jack and deep down she felt that her anger had subsided a little, yet she still couldn't look at Jack in the same way she did, before he said the thing about her mother and father which, she thought, really hurt her.
And her guess was right. Jack was already waiting for her in the lobby because apparently, Jack saw her car coming. She stopped for a moment and just stood where she was, staring intently at Jack. She still remembered very well what he said a few days ago about her mother and father, and somehow, her heart clenched painfully. Again.
"Elsa. You here." Jack was already standing in front of Elsa and without hesitation, hugged her tightly.
However, Elsa was still reluctant to hug him back. She just stood still and her body stiffened. "Let go, Jack. People are watching. Let go of me." That was true because some of her employees passing by in the lobby couldn't help but notice them.
"No. I won't let you go. I missed you." Jack stubbornly didn't let go of his embrace, he even hugged her tighter.
With the same stubbornness, Elsa remained silent and didn't hug back. She waited for a while before finally thinking that this was enough.
"Please, let go of me." She said slowly in a tone that Jack knew all too well that he would need to think twice or more to disobey her.
"How have you been? And I need to tell you something. This is serious, Elsa." Jack asked after pulling away from the hug. He looked at his fiancé with concern as he had not seen her for two days. And also he was dying to tell her about Manny's plans for revenge. He was really worried about her safety because he knew very well Manny's capacity even though he was already in prison.
"I'm fine. And whatever you need to tell me, I'm sure it can wait. I have works to do so, I'll see you later, Jack." Said Elsa firmly, and she was about to go past Jack when Jack held her back.
"Elsa, please. It can't wait. If I let you into your room now, you'll stay there and lock yourself up. I need to say it now. This is about Manny." Said Jack seriously, standing right in front of Elsa preventing her from going any further.
To be honest, Elsa was sick of hearing that name. She really didn't want to deal with that man anymore. All she had in her head now was how to find her father and make a perfect family with him and her mother. Jack had previously stated that he didn't agree to look for her father and she was okay with that. It was okay if he didn't want to get involved with this search. And for now, she had no time for all of this nonsense.
"I don't want to hear anything about that man." Said Elsa, trying to get past Jack but Jack quickly caught hold of her again.
"Elsa, please listen to me for once. Okay? This is important dan crucial. Manny is planning to take revenge on you and your mother. He has asked someone to do it. You're in danger, Elsa. And your mother too. He could attack at any moment." Jack explained, his worry growing with every word he said.
Hearing that Manny was going to take revenge on her, it affected her a bit. She remembered the incident a while ago where she almost lost her life because of that one particular name. But Elsa being Elsa, her anger and disappointment at Jack overpowered the fear of revenge from her arch enemy, Manny. So, she still held her chin high.
"I don't care, Jack. Manny is your father. You should be able to take care of him. I don't want to think about it." Elsa said, sounding so done with this mess.
"But it's for your safety, Elsa. You should be more careful because of his plans for revenge."
"My safety? Do you really care about my safety?"
"Of course I do care about your safety, Elsa. "Jack said out of frustration. How couldn't he care about the woman he loved so much? "I won't let anyone hurt you and your mother."
"Oh really?" Elsa laughed dryly and crossed her arms over her chest. "So what did you tell me the other day it didn't hurt me? You said, All the men in the world can claim he is your father because your mother had slept with everyone?" She had to stop because her throat was choked with sobs. It really hurt when she heard Jack say that and now when she just said it again, it hurt even more until she didn't feel her tears fall.
"I know my mother's past, Jack." Elsa added. "I know what she did in the past. If you can't accept her, that's okay. But she is my mother. You can't be with me if you don't want to accept her." She put stress in every word and was really crying now.
"Elsa, please. I'm sorry, okay? I didn't think straight at the time. I regret saying that. Please, forgive me. Now the most important thing is how to keep you and your mother safe. I'm really worried about you, you know that." Said Jack sincerely and regretfully, he never intended to hurt Elsa like this.
Elsa tried to hold back her tears and tried to understand Jack, but her heart couldn't lie. "I'm sorry, Jack. For now I don't need your sympathy. I don't care about Manny, I don't care what he will do and all I care about is how I can find my father. With or without you."
With that, Elsa passed Jack and walked briskly towards her room, leaving Jack dumbfounded as his attempts to mend his relationship had still not been successful. Jack turned around and looked at Elsa who was walking away with mixed emotions raging inside him. He couldn't force Elsa to talk again at this point because it would be useless. He had to find another way.
Meanwhile, a few moments ago from a distance outside the lobby door, Agnarr watched his daughter who seemed to be having an argument with a man. Ever since Iduna told him that Elsa had been trying so hard to find him until she got sick, he felt he had to go to her daughter and see with his own eyes that her daughter was fine. And besides, he felt he had to always be close to his daughter and watch over her just in case Manny got impatient and hurt her through his men.
Last night, when he was talking to his daughter Anna, at one point he asked her what she thought about revenge. Laughing, Anna lightly replied, 'if you are a good person, you don't have to get revenge. God is going to spin the block for you. So don't worry, Dad.'
And after his conversation with Anna was over, he tried to find as much information as possible about the case involving his daughter, Iduna and Manny. And he then devised a plan until he finally knew how he was going to get this done. Or at least he knew how to get close to his daughter.
And now, here he was, outside Elsa's office and after seeing the man who had been with his daughter leave and enter his room, he felt that it was the time for him to meet his daughter.
With confident, he walked into the building and stopped at the front desk. He asked how to meet Elsa and the young woman there suggested to go directly to Elsa's assistant inside. He complied and went straight to the intended person.
"Good morning. Are you Lucy? I want to meet Miss Winters and the beautiful young lady at the front told me to meet you." Said Agnarr politely. He felt that the assistant in front of him was a little busy so an idea popped into his head.
"Yes, Sir. I am Lucy. Have you made an appointment with Miss Winters before?" Said Lucy, looking up from her computer screen, with her hands occasionally arranging the paperwork on the table.
"Yes. I just texted her and she said to go straight into her room. Where is Miss Winters' room?" Said Agnarr lying. He never texted Elsa and he knew exactly which room Elsa was in, because he saw which room Elsa entered earlier.
"Alright, Sir. If Miss Winters said so, her room is right there." Said Lucy, pointing at Elsa's room with her palm, making Agnarr smile.
"Thank you, Lucy."
Agnarr then walked towards Elsa's room and found that the door was slightly ajar. When he peeked through the slightly ajar door it was a bittersweet moment for him. He was so happy to see his daughter from this close. However, it made him sad when he saw his daughter cry. He never liked seeing Anna cry and apparently, the same feeling came up when he saw Elsa cry.
He pushed the door open and took a step forward into the room. He wore a shirt with a beige jacket and trousers because he wanted to give his daughter a friendly impression. Elsa was there, sitting with her forehead resting on her clasped hands, still crying. He didn't like this sight.
"Good morning." He greeted. And that was enough to make Elsa look up and reveal her red face with tears. She looked quite surprised to have a guest this early.
"Oh, good morning." Elsa immediately wiped the tears from her face and stood up, trying to smile.
"May I come in?" Agnarr asked and he thought that maybe Elsa didn't want to receive guests for now, but without waiting for an answer from Elsa who was still a little surprised by his presence, he entered the room.
He looked at his daughter with a sad look and wondered what had made his daughter cry like this. When he finally stopped in front of Elsa's desk, he saw a box of tissues and without hesitation he took it and handed it to Elsa, making her even more surprised. Elsa looked at him confusedly and then turned to stare at the tissue box in front of her face.
"Please." Said Agnarr, motioning for Elsa to get a tissue and wipe her tears away. And somehow, Elsa complied and took a tissue, wiping her tears dry even though her face was still red and her eyes were still a little puffy.
"Thank you." Elsa said, sniffing and throwing the used tissue into the trash can under her desk.
Agnarr smiled and held out his hand for a handshake. "I'm Richard. Richard Summers."
Elsa took the hand and imitated her guest's smile. "I'm Elsa. And please have a seat." She motioned for this Rhicard to sit in a chair in front of her desk.
Agnarr did as he was told while still looking at Elsa who was now sitting in her leather chair, trying to compose herself.
"Okay, Mr. Summers. Is there anything I can help you with?" Elsa asked politely. She tried to focus her attention on her first guest of the day.
Even so, Agnarr looked doubtful whether Elsa had calmed down enough. He pressed his lips with his fingers, trying to assess the state of the young woman before him.
"Are you sure you're okay, Miss Winters?" He asked. His brows furrowed in slight concern.
"I'm fine. Thank you for your concern." Elsa smiled as best she could. "What can I do for you?"
Agnarr sighed softly and lowered his hand. He changed his sitting position until he felt comfortable. "I came here, to ask for your help to become my lawyer." He said slowly. But was able to make Elsa's work mode switched on and her face turned serious.
"Oh, okay. What is this about?" Elsa wiped her cheeks once more and then took her notebook. She was ready all ears.
Agnarr smiled seeing his daughter not so sad, but serious. At least it could distract her for now. "This is about inheritance."
"Inheritance?"
"Yes. A farm."
"Okay? Can you explain to me about this farm and why do you need a lawyer for this matter?" Said Elsa, getting her notebook and pen ready.
And Agnarr started explaining about the farm to Elsa. He knew, he was doing this just to be close and watch over his daughter, but to make Elsa believe in him, he had prepared all the data and storyline beforehand.
He explained casually in hopes of making his daughter's mood better and there was a time when Elsa laughed because he explained about the farm problem using the items on Elsa's desk. Such as desk nameplate, tissue box, scissors, books and paper.
The two chatted as if they had known each other for a long time instead of seeing each other for the first time. Inside, Agnarr felt relieved and happy because he could make his daughter smile again.
"Okay." Agnarr let out a deep breath and smiled. "Thank you so much, Miss Winters. You've been willing to listen to my wide and long explanation. I'm surprised you didn't fall asleep." He stood up and adjusted his jacket.
"It was hard to fall asleep because your wide and long story was quite interesting, Mr. Summers." Said Elsa, also smiling and standing up.
"When can I contact you again? If possible, you can come to my farm and have a look. So you know that the farm is really mine."
"Sure. I'll give you a call soon and I'll help you as much as I can. Thank you, Mr. Summers." Said Elsa as she held out her hand to shake.
"The pleasure is mine, Miss Winters." And then Agnarr looked down at the messy desk. "And I'm sorry, I've made your desk a mess, Miss."
"It's alright, don't worry about that. I'll accompany you outside." Elsa tried to stop Agnarr who was just about to tidy up the desk. And with that, she led Agnarr out of the room.
"Who did ask you what?!" Iduna was completely shocked by what she had just heard. She even got up from her chair and stared at Agnarr in disbelief.
"Manny asked me to take revenge on you and Elsa. He wants me to hurt the two of you." Agnarr said, feeling frustrated by the situation.
"And what did you say to him? Did you agree to take his revenge on us?"
"He once saved my life, Idun. And I once promised that I would help him no matter what when he asked. And he asked me to do this now."
"So you said yes?"
"I didn't have another choice at that time, Idun. I can't break-"
"Your promise, I knew that." Iduna stopped deep in thought. "But she is your daughter, Agnarr. You can't hurt her."
"And I can't hurt you either. I can't hurt you both."
"Then you have to break your promise, Agnarr."
Agnarr looked daubtfull and put his hands on his waist, looking far into the flower garden in the front yard. "I wish I could easily do that. I'm still figuring out how I can get away from Manny without hurting all of us."
They both fell silent in their own thoughts. Agnarr felt a little relieved that at least he could share this heavy burden by discussing it with Iduna. On the other hand, Iduna felt very anxious because of what she had just heard. She had seen what Manny could do to her daughter and she couldn't imagine what would happen next.
Suddenly, Iduna walked over to Agnarr. "Prove that you care about your daughter. Prove that you love her. Prove that you care about us. If you still have to avenge it, do it to me. Don't hurt our daughter. Think about that, Agnarr."
And without waiting for Agnarr's answer, Iduna left him with a heavy burden on her heart and mind, knowing that her daughter was still not safe.
It was getting dark that evening and Jack tapped on the steering wheel nervously. His eyes never left the end of the road where Elsa's car would be seen when Elsa came home. Later that afternoon, Elsa left the office and he couldn't stop her or be with her, so here he was, waiting for her to come home to talk to her again. He would never give up.
His eyes squint when he saw a taxi approaching and stopping in front of the gate. Curious, he straightened his seat and watched carefully. And when he saw it was Iduna getting out of the taxi, he thought maybe he could use a different approach.
"Ms. Iduna!" Jack called out as he got out of his car. He then crossed the road and approached Iduna outside the gate. Marshall had opened the small gate and was about to let her in.
"Jack? Why are you here? Is Elsa with you?" Iduna asked in surprise, looking around for her daughter's whereabouts.
"No. She left the office hours ago and I'm waiting for her to come home. I need to talk to her but since you are here, I'll talk to you instead. I want to ask you an apologize."
"What? Apologize? What happened?"
"We better sit down and talk about this."
"I think Mr. Jack is here, Miss." Kai said, turning the car into the driveway after Marshall opened the gate. He saw Jack's car parked next to the porch and now he stopped right behind it.
Elsa looked up and tried to find out where Jack's car was and it was true, as Kai said, Jack was here. She let out a deep breath and thought, what else is this? She was exhausted from today and now, she had to face this.
"Kai, please bring my bag and laptop to my study. Thank you." Said Elsa, as she got out of the car.
And the moment when Elsa was about to enter the house, Olina came out to greet her. "Good evening, Miss."
"Olina." Elsa stopped in her tracks. "Is Jack here?"
"Yes, Miss. He is in the pergola. With Ms. Iduna." Olina answered, stepping aside as Elsa walked past her.
Elsa quickened her pace and as soon as she reached the connecting door she could see her mother and Jack sitting there. And as if they had noticed her arrival, they both looked up and stood up at once. She saw her mother patting Jack on the shoulder and now walking towards her.
"Elsa, Jack told me everything. Forgive him. Nobody is perfect. Not me, not him, and not even you. He loves you so much you know that." Iduna whispered, taking the time to hug her daughter for a moment before leaving her with Jack to sort things out.
Elsa just sighed softly and then walked over to Jack. "So you just asked my mother for help after you insulted her the other day." She stated, neither questioning nor accusing.
"Elsa, please. You know I never meant that." Said Jack pleading. He was at a loss for words to tell how sorry he was.
Elsa turned around and walked over to the edge of the pergola, crossing her arms over her chest and staring into the distance at her backyard.
Seeing Elsa wasn't going to say anything more, Jack desperately sat down on the couch, choosing to keep his mouth shut because he didn't know what else to do to get Elsa's forgiveness. He had tried everything and now it was all on Elsa.
Jack was about to give up and leave when Elsa turned around and looked at him intently.
"Be honest." Said Elsa, instantly making Jack stand up and look back at her. "That you will accept me regardless of my background?"
Jack didn't expect Elsa to ask such a question, but it was an easy question, he just needed to be honest. "Yes. I'm honest that I will accept you regardless of your background."
"Be honest, that you will accept my mother regardless of what she did in the past?"
"Yes. I'm honest that I will accept your mother regardless of what she did in the past."
Elsa sighed softly and seemed satisfied with what Jack said. She turned around again and looked back at the backyard, much to Jack's confusion.
"Elsa?" Jack asked tentatively, leaning slightly so he could get a glimpse off Elsa's face.
Elsa glanced over her shoulder and her face was no longer cold. "Don't you want to hug me?"
Jack's face lit up at Elsa's words, smiling from ear to ear. "I thought you would never ask." He said with relief, his smile growing wider as Elsa turned back and opened her arms slightly.
Jack didn't want to wait any longer and immediately hugged her very tightly. He kissed Elsa's head many times while whispering the love words he so longed to tell her.
"Thank you for forgiving me." Jack said, kissing her gently, which Elsa gladly kissed back.
"Your mother told me about yesterday incident. I'm sorry I couldn't be there with you." Said Jack, fiddling with the ring on Elsa's finger as the two of them sat on the couch.
"It's alright. I'm fine now. But I think it's a good thing that you weren't with me. If so, you'd just be freaking out when seeing me barely breathing." Said Elsa, she looked at Jack with longing. Now that her anger was completely gone, she had just realized that she really missed him.
"But at least I could do something. Like, kissing you maybe?" Said Jack, wiggling his eyebrows, earning him a light slap on the shoulder. But he just laughed, because being slapped by Elsa was way better than being ignored.
"So, tell me about your father." Asked Jack after he had finished laughing. The two of them had come to terms with this matter and he didn't mind helping to find her father.
"He is a florist." Elsa began.
"That's why your allergy relapsed yesterday."
"Yes. And his name is Aganarr Arendelle. He lives in-"
"Hang on." Jack sat up straight when he heard the name.
"What?"
"I've heard that name before. Arendelle?" Jack's face turned serious deep in thought. He pressed his forehead with his fist trying to remember.
As for Elsa, she felt quite thrilled to hear that Jack had heard the name before. "You've heard the name? Where?"
"Yeah. Do you remember that surgical resident at the hospital? Anna Arendelle?"
