A/N: Let's get to it, shall we?
Response to reviews:
spiderman1fan: Thank you. I can't really reveal too much about that topic, all I can say is that you'll have to read this chapter to find out and no, the Monitor won't have anything to do with Barry's adventure to the MCU. As I have repeatedly said, Barry will go there willingly and by himself.
Chloe: Glad to hear it. Thank you for the review.
"Just because someone stumbles and loses their path doesn't mean they're lost forever." - Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, X-Men: Days of Future Past
Unknown Area
3:30 AM
In a part of the forest, Cisco and Diggle were sleeping in their sleeping bags. There were floor sleeping bags that were circled around a campfire, two of them were filled with both Cisco and Diggle, who were asleep. The other two, Iris' and Harry's, were somewhat empty. Iris was up, in her sleeping back as she looked down at a small picture of her and Barry. It was when they were teenagers, Iris remembered it like it was yesterday. Joe had treated Barry and Iris with some ice cream and milkshakes for good grades after the end of their sophomore year. Iris smiled at the memory but her smile quickly faded as she acknowledged reality. Iris couldn't believe that Barry had just left like that, he was loved, he was missed, what reason did he have for leaving? Then, it struck her. Iris angrily glared at Cisco and frowned at the thought of Caitlin. They were the reason Barry left, the reason he was no longer there. How could they?
After everything Barry had done for them, how could they have turned their backs on him like that? Then Harry's arrival to the campfire snapped Iris out of her thoughts as she looked over at the alternate Wells. Iris wished Barry would just come back, she wished she could go back to days where Oliver Queen being the Green Arrow would've been the most shocking thing.
"Where were you?" Iris asked as Harry seated himself under his sleeping bag.
"Went hunting." Harry replied as he held some dead rabbits over the campfire in order to cook them.
"Since when did you know how to hunt?" Iris asked.
"My father taught me." Harry replied.
"Hmm." Iris simply hummed as Harry noticed something off about her.
"What's wrong?" Harry asked.
"Nothing." Iris lied.
"Nothing?" Harry asked.
"I'm just worried about Barry, that's all." Iris replied but it was clear that she was still lying.
"No. You're not just worried about him, you're worried that he doesn't want to come back."
"What if he doesn't? What is he just leaves Central City once for all because of Flashpoint? What if we've all just lost him? What if he's lost who he is?"
"You're worried about him losing his way?" Harry asked as Iris nodded. "Iris, let me tell you something a young but wise friend of mine from my earth once told me: 'Just because someone stumbles and loses their path doesn't mean they're lost forever.'."
"What do you mean?" Iris asked, having been completely dumbfounded.
"What I mean is..." Harry began. "...just because Allen's in a dark place doesn't mean he won't come back out."
Iris nodded at Harry's words, thinking to herself. Maybe, just maybe, if she reached Barry soon enough, she could pull him out of the darkness he was trapped in.
Nanda Parbat
Barry woke up with a start, gasping and breathing heavily as he sat up straight, his blankets flying away from him. Barry had woken up from the same dream (or rather nightmare) that he had back in the forest when he and Oliver were training. Barry was gasping deeply that he didn't noticed a certain, elderly man at the doorway of his room.
"You are awake." Azaad said. "Earlier than usual or necessary."
"I was dreaming." Barry blurted out.
"Al Kadhir once said dreams were based on emotion," Azaad said. "Rage, greed, desire, guilt. Which one did you have?"
"Fear." Barry replied. "Fear of my city being destroyed. Fear of my loved ones dying while I'm helpless to do anything."
"Some fears bring upon great strength and the will to be prepared." Azaad stated. "Others cause weakness. You must detach yourself of weaknesses such as love and softness in order to do what is necessary rid worlds of all their evils."
Barry looked up at Azaad with a look of courage. "I'm ready to begin."
"Very well, come to the main room by dawn." Azaad said before turning around and leaving.
Barry watched Azaad leave the room as he looked around, breathing heavily. He was still pretty exhausted from his fight last night but it wasn't like that would matter for his training. Barry got out of bed, throwing the covers and blankets off of him as he stood onto his feet. He stretched his body, feeling his joints and bones cracking under pressure before he relaxed them. He then walked down the halls of Nanda Parbat, thinking to himself as he did. He knew what was coming, he would go through the ultimate test, he couldn't fail, he couldn't afford for failure to even be an option, let alone a result. After he had passed his test, he would no longer be the man he once was. Barry Allen would cease to exist, there would only be The Flash. That too, The Flash he would become would've been different than The Flash he once was and that was something that he was ready for.
Hours later, after training on his own with more ninjas and other members of the League, Barry had made his way to the main room. He looked around to find that the room was different than when Barry had come. The meta-dampeners were still there of course but in the middle there chains hanging from the ceiling and there was also big, barbecue-like stand with a metal rod in it. The top of the metal rod had a small circle with a lightning bolt-shaped line on it. Barry knew what was going to happen, Oliver had told him about this. He would have to self-restrain himself with nothing but the chains, Barry would then be have the lightning bolt symbol burned on his back. Then, each member of the League, including Oliver, Nyssa and Azaad himself, would have to mark a cut on Barry's back not with a knife but with a sword.
"Before we begin your training, you must be able to prove your ability to resist pain, to control it, to ignore it even." Azaad said as he walked in circles around Barry, as if he were scanning the young Metahuman. "Your powers will not work here and that is necessary if you are to be trained properly. Let us begin."
Barry looked around and saw all thirteen members of the League and Oliver and Nyssa, he was ready to begin. Barry walked forward as he stood between the chains, his back turned to the heated stand. He grabbed the left chain with his left hand and the right one with his right hand as he tied them around his wrist, keeping himself restrained.
"Begin!" Azaad yelled out in Arabic.
Then, one of the League members took the metal rod, the Flash emblem-shaped top glowing with heat. He then forcefully pressed it one Barry's back as the young Metahuman winced in pain, keeping his mouth shut as he strongly tightened his grip on the chains. Barry felt the heat being pressed on his back, the blood rushing through his veins, the pain going all over his body. Finally, after several moments, the ninja removed the rod as Flash emblem-shaped scar was visible on Barry's back, it was relatively small but still visible, given how clean Barry's back was from scars. However, that was about to change, very quickly that too. The ninja behind Barry then took out his sword before slowly and eloquently placing a medium-sized cut on Barry's back. Barry winced in pain but he resisted, tightening his grip on the chains as he could feel as much pressure from them as pain from the cut. The ninja then stepped back as the other thirteen members began making their cuts on Barry, who lightly groaned but held back his pain to the best of his ability. Soon, after several moments, Nyssa and Oliver had already made their cuts, Barry kept thinking hopefully to himself, this was his last cut, all he had to do was resist for just a little while longer. Azaad took a long blade as he held it in his hand. He walked over to Barry as he placed the edge of the blade gently on his back before slowly pulling it downward, marking the final cut on Barry's back. Barry kept his breathing of relief in control as he breathed low and controlled breaths, slowly releasing his arms from the chains as he pulled them back.
"From now on, there is Barry Allen no more..." Azaad spoke. "...there is only...The Flash."
Azaad then placed his blade back where it once was as Nyssa stepped forward before speaking.
"I understand that this will be the last interaction between you and Oliver." Nyssa stated.
"It is." Barry said, nodding his head.
"I am also aware of your special friendship and so, I only think that it is fitting you bid yourselves farewell." Nyssa replied before speaking in Arabic. "Clear the room!"
In a matter of seconds, the League members and Azaad all walked out of the main room, exiting through the door. Nyssa gave one last look to Oliver before casting a glance at Barry, she then turned around and left, leaving Barry and Oliver alone to talk to one another.
"So." Oliver said.
"So." Barry replied in the same tone.
"You're leaving Earth 1 after this?" Oliver asked, knowing that he wasn't going to like Barry's answer.
"That's my plan." Barry admitted.
"Is there anything I can say or do that will stop from leaving?"
"I'm afraid not, Ollie."
"Well, in that case, I guess this is goodbye." Oliver said reluctantly. Barry was like a younger brother to him and it pained Oliver to see a person who meant so much to him destroy themselves the way he had destroyed himself.
"I guess it is." Barry said. "I would go for a hug but I cannot even feel my back right now."
Oliver and Barry let out short laughs, which quickly died down, due to the kind of conversation they were having as of now. Oliver then held out his hand to Barry.
"Goodbye Barry." Oliver whispered as Barry shook his hand.
"Goodbye Oliver." Barry said as he and Oliver dropped hands.
Barry and Oliver gave one last look at each other, one last look at what they had both become. Each of them were happy with what the other had become, how far they had gone, how far they had come. Oliver then turned around, walking past the room to the main doors of Nanda Parbat. He opened one of them as he stood behind it, giving one last look at Barry.
"Whatever life is waiting for you on the other side," Oliver spoke. "I hope it's enough for you."
"Same to you." Barry said with a light smile to Oliver. "When the day comes, you'll be a great dad to William. I know it."
Oliver nodded in gratitude.
"Goodbye Barry." Oliver said one last time.
"Goodbye Oliver and thank you. For everything." Barry said sincerely.
Oliver nodded in response before closing the door in front of him as his vision of Barry was blocked by it. Oliver then turned around, reluctantly admitting to himself that this could've been the last time he ever saw Barry before finally walking and eventually running away from the structure of Nanda Parbat. Oliver kept going as he reminded himself, he did what he had to do, he said goodbye to his friend. No. a part of Oliver thought. Best friend, brother. Oliver smiled at the thought, no matter what happened, no matter where they were, whether it was the next door or universes away, Barry would always be his little brother and that would never change.
Back in Nanda Parbat, Barry stared at the doors where Oliver had gone through, part of him wanted to run through the doors, go to Oliver and ask him to take him back to Iris once his training was done. But what was the point? What would happen then? Cisco and Caitlin might've been worried about Barry, but once he got back, they would go back to hating him for Flashpoint? Barry knew he couldn't do that, Team Flash would've been better off without him. Barry snorted, it wasn't even Team Flash anymore. He doubted that Cisco and Caitlin would've supported the name. Barry turned around, his scarred and bloodied back facing the doors as he looked at the rest of main room and the entrance to other parts of Nanda Parbat structure. He was no longer Barry Allen, he was only The Flash.
Four Months Later
Morning
Oliver was running through the forest, it had been months since he had left Barry and he was currently heading back to S.T.A.R. City. The ride back was much longer than the ride here, that time, he had Barry to speed him all the way. This time, however, he only had himself. It had been a week, it wouldn't take much longer til he got back. Suddenly, Oliver stopped in his tracks as he overheard low sounds of people talking. He slowly walked through some bushes that were pressed against each other, forcefully keeping his breathing low. He then recognized two of the voices, Diggle's and Cisco's. He then went through the other side of the bushes as he was met by Diggle, Cisco and two unfamiliar people.
"John?" Oliver asked.
"Oliver?" Diggle asked in the same tone.
"Hey Oliver." Cisco said sheepishly.
"Cisco?" Oliver asked before turning his head to Harry and Iris. "Why the hell is he here?"
"It's not him." Diggle said, referring to Thawne. "He's the Wells from an another earth."
"Harry Wells." Harry introduced as he struck his hand out to Oliver. "You must be Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow."
Oliver reluctantly shook Harry's hand before turning to Iris. "You're Iris?"
"So Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow?" Iris asked.
"Yeah, that's me." Oliver deadpanned.
"Okay." Iris said before snapping back to reality. "Was Barry with you?"
"He had to have been the friend you were going with right?" Diggle asked as Oliver gave a certain look.
"He asked me to give this to you." Oliver said as he took out a small, folded piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Iris.
"What is this?" Iris asked as she unfolded the paper and looked down at it in shock at what was written.
Meanwhile, In Nanda Parbat
Barry walked into the main room, dressed like all the ninjas in the room, wearing black clothing and sword holster on his back, hanging from his shoulders. On two sides, there were many, many ninjas. The room was so full of them that the walking space for Barry was as long as an average-length sidewalk. Barry continued walking forward before stopping at the front of the main room as Azaad and Nyssa stood in front of him.
"Today is one of your final tests." Azaad stated. "Today, you will unlock your inner and ultimate weapon: Fear. However, before this, we must first know whether you can control your fear before using it as your weapon."
"I am ready to begin." Barry said confidently.
"Very well. The dampeners are in place." Nyssa said before speaking to Azaad. "Proceed."
Azaad then took a small bowl as he held it in his hands. The bowl had smoke coming from it, from what Barry could tell, it had some form of a drug in it. Azaad held the bowl in front of Barry, who took it into his hands.
"Breathe it in." Azaad commanded.
Barry obeyed as he held the bowl closer to his face as he felt the smoke going through him , circulating with the blood in his body. Suddenly, Barry felt different, he began to feel weaker. Nevertheless, Barry stayed on his feet, controlling his breathing, keeping his calm.
"Control your fears." Azaad said. "Face them."
Suddenly, fearful memories flashed through Barry's mind, coming and going faster than he could comprehend. Yet, he still felt the emotional scars it had left on him.
A tornado of red and orange lightning surrounding Barry's mother, Nora, who was on her knees, screaming.
"Barry!"
Zoom driving his vibrating hand through Henry Allen's heart, killing the doctor instantly in front of his own son, Barry.
Zoom breaking Barry's back.
Barry being struck by lightning on the night of the particle accelerator.
The images and memories stopped flashing through Barry's mind as he regained control of his mind or at least, he did his best to. Azaad noticed Barry's state as he spoke.
"In order to conquer your fear," Azaad said. "You must become it."
Azaad stepped back, pulling his mask into place as it covered all of his face, except for his eyes and forehead. In an instant, all the masked ninjas stood between Barry and Azaad, in a crowded formation. Barry knew what was going on, Azaad was blending in with his environment, within all the masked ninjas. Barry put on his mask before unsheathing his sword from his sword-shaped sword holster that on his back. Barry drew his sword, holding it in the middle of his body with both hands as he slowly made his way through the crowd of ninjas. Barry's vision was shaking on the sides and edges uncontrollably and all the ninjas' eyes seem to glow with a white light, it must've been the effects of the drug Barry had breathed in.
"You have to become a terrible thought." Azaad's voice echoed through the crowd and the room.
In mere seconds, all the ninjas unsheathed their swords before dividing themselves into two groups as they all either stepped left or right, leaving Barry a small space in between them. Barry walked forward in the space between the two groups of ninjas, tightening the grip on his sword, being as cautious as he could.
"You have to become an idea!" Azaad yelled out.
Suddenly, one of the ninjas, clearly Azaad, jumped out of the right side as Barry jumped backwards in shock. Azaad swung his sword at Barry, left to right, but Barry skidded back, avoiding the hit. Barry swung his sword at Azaad with an up-to-down strike, Azaad jumped back to the right side of the ninjas as Barry missed his hit, stumbling forwards. Then, the ninjas all returned to their previous formation. Great. Barry thought to himself. Now, Azaad was as good as gone. Barry thought to himself, thinking of his advantages and analyzing his environment, as he had been trained. Barry knew Azaad would be following him, the masks that Barry and the ninjas were wearing were tight, which meant that when Azaad was speaking, his mask would be moving.
"Feel the terror cloud your senses." Azaad's voice echoed through the crowd of ninjas as Barry searched desperately for his mentor. "Feel it's power to distort. Adapt. To control."
With that, the ninjas returned to their divided position, leaving a small, long space for Barry to stand in. Barry then noticed one of the ninjas moving. Azaad. He thought. Barry then skidded to his right, holding his sword in the same way the rest of the ninjas were. Barry saw Azaad walk past him and continue walking, Azaad hadn't spotted Barry. Now the hunted had become the hunter. Then, Barry had an idea. It would be the perfect trap. Barry waited for Azaad to get far enough, he then made his move, swiftly and stealthily moving through the crowd of ninjas. He then began placing cuts on their forearms, marking a path. Barry knew that the ninjas weren't allowed to move from their positions unless it was absolutely necessary. Therefore, they would remain still, even when they were in pain. Barry then left a few more cuts before moving back a few steps, staying in line with the row behind the row of ninjas he had cut. Barry held his sword in the same position all the other ninjas, then the ninjas all sheathed their swords back into their sword holsters. Barry followed suit, remaining in cover with the ninjas. Barry then saw Azaad noticing the cuts before stepping in front of Barry as Azaad wrapped his sword around the ninja in front of Barry.
"You cannot leave any sign." Azaad whispered, not knowing he had caught the wrong person.
Barry then quickly unsheathed his sword before wrapping around Azaad's neck as a realization struck Barry's mentor.
"I didn't." Barry said, taking off his mask. "I just lured you in. You took the bait."
Barry then drew his sword back as Azaad took off his mask before he turned around, a look of smile on his face as he looked at the young Metahuman with pride. Then, the sounds of clapping echoed through the main room as both Barry and Azaad turned their heads to see Nyssa Al Ghul, applauding Barry.
"I will not lie." Nyssa stated as she walked forward before stopping in front of Barry. "I am impressed with you, Mr. Allen. You've been here only a weak and you've already bested my highest ranking and best lieutenant. Such progress is only seen in those who have earned the title of 'Ra's Al Ghul'."
Barry nodded in gratitude.
"Now comes your final and ultimate test." Nyssa stated. "But this time, you will not be fighting my students or Azaad. This time, you will battle me."
Azaad had a surprise look on his face. "My liege, this wasn't a part of Mr. Allen's training."
"He has exceeded the expected level." Nyssa stated. "His limits are beyond those of our students. I merely wish to see if I am a part of those limits or not."
"Of course, my liege." Azaad said, nodding respectfully before turning his head to face Barry. "Good luck, my friend."
"Thank you." Barry said gratefully.
Then, Azaad and all the other ninjas walked away from Barry and Nyssa. The aligned themselves against the wall and the doors, giving enough room for the two to combat. Barry unsheathed his sword as Nyssa followed suit, the two began walking in circles, keeping a small distance between one another as they both held their swords with one hand.
"This is your ultimate test, Mr. Allen." Nyssa said to Barry. "I will not hold back and neither should you. If you underestimate me, slow down or allow for any weaknesses, you will find a blade in your body."
"I understand." Barry replied respectfully.
Nyssa then charged at Barry, swinging her sword. Barry gripped his sword with both hands before lifting it in the air, successfully blocked Nyssa's strike. He then swung his sword to the right, shaking Nyssa's sword off of his. Nyssa, however, threw a sidekick at Barry, kicking him in the stomach as the young Metahuman stumbled back before falling on the ground, laying on his back. Barry wasted no time getting back onto his feet, Nyssa then swung her sword at him with a right to left strike, Barry ducked under the swing before getting back onto his feet as he sent a kick to Nyssa's stomach, causing her to stumble back. Then, many of the ninjas unsheathed their swords but Azaad held his hand up, ordering them to stop.
"Do not interfere!" Azaad demanded as the ninjas sheathed their swords.
Barry and Nyssa continued their fight, each of them striking the other with their swords as the other blocked. Then, Nyssa threw herself at Barry with multiple sword strikes as Barry desperately defended himself by quickly blocking Nyssa's quick and deadly hits.
"Do not give in!" Nyssa yelled out as she and Barry ferociously battled one another. "Death will not spare you!"
Nyssa then threw one final sword strike but this time Barry was ready as he dropped to the ground and front rolled away from Nyssa before getting back onto his feet, facing Nyssa. Nyssa then swung her sword at Barry, who dropped to the ground, laying on his back before kicking the sword out of Nyssa's hands. Nyssa was surprised and distracted by the attack as Barry double kicked her in the stomach, causing Nyssa to stumble backwards. Barry then kicked his feet up as he forced his torso off the ground before landing on his feet. The unarmed Nyssa then tried to attack Barry but Barry simply ducked under the hit, dropping to the ground, spreading out one of his legs before turning 360 degrees, sweeping Nyssa off her feet. Nyssa dropped to the ground as Barry kneeled over her, placing his sword on top of her neck. Nyssa was trapped, she had no place to move as she finally conceded.
"Yield." Barry demanded. "I don't want to kill you."
"I yield." Nyssa rasped, her voice raspy as a result of Barry's sword on her neck.
Barry then got onto his feet, sheathing his sword as he placed back into his sword holster. He then held a hand out to Nyssa, who accepted as she got onto her feet. Nyssa looked at Barry with a ready a look as Azaad began clapping. The clapping of every other ninja followed as they all applauded Barry in his victory. Barry felt proud but he knew that this was just training, his mission was yet to begin.
A Couple Hours Later
Outside the structure of Nanda Parbat, Barry stood, dressed in normal clothes, a tachyon device on his chest and a backpack hanging on the ground, leaning against his feet. He looked at Azaad and Nyssa, who were standing a few feet across from him.
"You have done well." Nyssa said. "Congratulations, Mr. Allen/"
"Thank you." Barry said.
Nyssa stepped back as Azaad stepped forward, holding a special sword in his hands as he spoke.
"This sword has been passed down for generations and thousands of years by those who have claimed the title of Ra's Al Ghul." Azaad stated as he handed it to Barry, who slowly took it into his hands. "Honor it with your life."
"I will." Barry promised.
"Of all those I have ever taught and commanded, know this, Bartholomew," Azaad said. "You are and always will be my greatest student."
Barry nodded in gratitude as he sheathed the sword before wrapping it around his body as it hung off his shoulders.
"Thank you, my friend." Barry said respectfully.
Azaad nodded.
Barry then took his backpack as he wore it above the sword of Ra's. He gave one last look at Azaad, Nanda Parbat and Nyssa. He gave a light smile to her and Barry swore that he could've seen the corner of Nyssa's lips curve into a smile. Nyssa gave an encouraging nod to Barry. Barry then looked around one last time, this could end up being the last time he would be on Earth 1. He wasn't even sure if he would return. Barry then turned around as he took off at super speed in a flash of orange lightning, taking the sword of Ra's and the backpack he had packed with him. He then encountered a blue portal, Barry didn't stop, he kept going as he went through the portal before it closed. Azaad and Nyssa watched Barry leave.
A/N: I know this chapter wasn't as eventful as the previous one but I really didn't feel like extending it and plus, I just really thought it was time to get Barry in the MCU. Graphic Novel #1 is complete. Time for Graphic Novel #2 (Barry kinda helping out in Age of Ultron) to begin!
I hope you guys caught my nod to X-Men during Iris and Harry's conversation.
Yes, that whole final training scene was based on/inspired by the one in Batman Begins.
I must confess, Barry and Oliver's goodbye was very emotional for me. It was hard for me to do, it was evil but it was a necessary evil. I didn't really feel like involving Oliver on Barry's trip to the MCU. It's not that I don't like, it's just that most of my stories will (one way or another) end up being Barry-centric. I wouldn't have given too much attention to Oliver and that would not have been fair to you guys, my loyal fans and readers, so, it was best to get a goodbye. I'm not self-praising myself when I say that Barry and Oliver's goodbye was emotional for me, I was kinda imagining this like the real show in my head, so that's why it was emotional for me.
Well, we now have Barry in the MCU. I plan on having Barry return at a much, much later date than you think. That's it for now, hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please leave a review, tell me what you think and I'll see you in the next chapter.
