~Naruto's 5th Birthday party~
Naruto Uzumaki, son to Kushina Uzumaki and to his knowledge an unknown father, a half fox faunus who lived on Patch island with his mom and was neighbors to his best friends, Ruby Rose and Yang Xiao Long, daughters to Taiyang Xiao Long. Naruto enjoyed both of their company but mainly enjoyed Yang's as they were closer in age but enjoyed the energetic ravenette who was younger than them by 2 years.
Naruto had the nickname of foxy from Ruby and Yang and Kit (baby/child fox) from both Taiyang and his mom. Currently we see them all sat at a table as they ate some food while Naruto's tail was lightly swishing behind him as he smiled and said softly "Thanks for throwing this for us uncle Tai!" Taiyang chuckled at Naruto and rubbed his ear making Naruto purr lightly as Ruby giggles and Yang smirked.
"It's alright little kit, after all your mom is busy with work, isn't she?" Asked Taiyang as Naruto nodded with a slightly upset face as he continued to eat.
Ruby cuddled into Naruto as Yang flicked his nose "It's your birthday no need to be sad foxy" Yang said as Naruto nodded lightly and looked away mumbling about idiot dragons and cuddly cookie monsters (Naruto's nickname for Ruby)
The Xiao Long family laughed at Naruto's expense as he kept mumbling about stupid dragons and cookie monsters as he yawns softly.
Taiyang notices his yawn and smiles "Is the little kit tired?" He asked Naruto who nods a little and eats his food and stretches and gets off his chair.
"I'll see you all tomorrow" muttered Naruto before his shoulder was grabbed gently by Taiyang "Yeah uncle Tai?"
"How about you stay here tonight kit?" Naruto looks at him with gentle and softened eyes as he nods.
Taiyang smiles and gives Naruto a spare shirt "You can stay in.." Taiyang looks at his kids "Who wants Naruto to stay with them tonight?" Yang's hand shot up faster than she liked.
"I wanna cuddle with foxy! His tail will be cuddly and cute!" Naruto looks away pouting muttering about only being wanted for his tail making the family laugh at him.
Naruto sighs and walks upstairs with Taiyang to find Tai's shirt to put on and wear to bed because he didn't have pyjamas there, after getting changed he lays in Yang's bed before slowly falling asleep until he hears Yang come in, as soon as he heard her come in he looks away being taught by his mom to not watch girls changing as he closed his eyes as well. After a while he felt Yang cuddle into him as he fell asleep and cuddled into her.
~Midnight the same night~
Naruto woke up wanting a drink as he walked downstairs to make one, at the top of the stairs he hears Taiyang talking to someone and walks down further until he heard them properly.
"...Kushina died."
Was all Naruto heard before he started to cry and ran down the stairs and glared at the visitor, a man with scruffy hairstyle which was black "I thought he was still asleep Tai.." mumbled the visitor.
Tai nodded before sighing "He was Qrow but he must have woken up" Tai looks at Naruto "Hey kit, what woke you up?" Naruto kept glaring at Qrow before growling.
"You're lying, mom wouldn't die" Naruto muttered but both heard "She wouldn't leave me she promised..." Qrow and Tai flinched "She never broke a promise and she was the strongest..."
Qrow sighs and kneels down infront of Naruto "Hey kid, your mom was the strongest, but the grimm overpowered her and outnumbered her" Naruto's kept crying.
"Where is she?.." He asked devoid of emotions "Where is my mom?"
Qrow sighs and handed Naruto the only thing they had remaining of Kushina, he sword "This was all that was left" Naruto gently took the sword and searches the handle before opening the compartment which makes him breakdown.
"Mom's gone.. She left me alone" cried Naruto as he gripped the sword and cried more "She promised to come home and take me to the Signal when I joined.." he kneeled on the floor gripped his mom's sword and cried until he fell asleep on the floor.
~Next morning~
Naruto woke up next to Yang, his eyes puffy from crying and he sighs softly as he got out of the bed and went downstairs to see Qrow and Tai at the table "Good morning" Naruto mumbled as he went to get a glass of water.
While drinking the glass of water he sighs and looks at Tai "Uncle Tai.. did mom really lie?" Naruto asked softly as Tai flinches.
"She didn't know how many grimm would be on the mission she was on, none of us did and she died because of misinformation, sorry kit" Tai replied genuinely as Naruto nodded softly and sat at the table.
"I wanted her to watch me graduate from Signal after I get in y'know?" Asked Naruto softly as Tai nodded and chuckles softly.
"How about me and Qrow train you to make her proud of you, huh kit?" Asked Tai as Naruto nodded and looked at Qrow to see how he would act.
Qrow sighed and looks at Tai "You sure Tai?" Asked Qrow to which Tai nodded "Alright, alright I'll help train him, but I'm helping the kids as well"
Naruto looks confused then he realizes "YOU'RE UNCLE QROW?!" Naruto exclaims loudly making Qrow laugh and nod "So we're gonna train with a dragon and a cookie monster when she's old enough?"
Qrow looks confused then laughs more "I love those nicknames for them" Naruto pouts at what Qrow said before saying.
"Those are my nicknames for them, dusty old Qrow!" Naruto smirks before hearing the stairs groan and snapped his heard to them and saw Ruby and Yang "Morning Dragon and Cookie Monster!" Shouted Naruto too having a complete 180 from how he was last night and earlier the morning.
Qrow chuckled before taking a sip from his flask "Morning squirt and shorter squirt" he got two groans from the girls before he was cuddled in a tight grip "Hey Tai why don't we help these three unlock their aura and figure out their semblances" this got the three to turn their head so fast that someone would of thought they got whiplash.
"I dunno, they don't look ready" teased Tai as Ruby and Yang dived at him and Naruto quietly shuffled into the kitchen and filles a glass with water and snuck behind Tai and pouring the water down his back. "Which one did that?" Asked Tai as he tried to get the water out of his shirt and Naruto smirked as he walked to Qrow side to look innocent.
Qrow chuckled along with Yang and Ruby giggling as they watch Tai dance like a headless chicken "Wow the foxes really are stealthy creatures" muttered Qrow as he looked at Naruto, whose face had a face splitting grin on it "Right so who wants to learn how to unlock their auras?" Asked Qrow as all three shot their hands up in respose as they made their way out the house and to the backyard "Alright so all you need to do is meditate and feel around for something that feels warm and safe, once you find it you need to pull it out a little bit at a time" As Qrow finished his explanation Naruto sat down cross legged next to Yang and Ruby, not even 5 minutes later his aura exploded out of his body and coated him in a layer of it making him feel fuzzy and made both Qrow's and Tai's to snap to him. "Are kids supposed to have this much?" Asked Qrow.
"This is at least a young teenagers amount of Aura maybe more" Replied Tai as Naruto started to lower his aura levels "Kushina always had large Aura capacity and it was also very.. dense" Tai said as an after thought making Qrow nod, after 30 minutes Ruby activated hers and it was a little above average for the age of 3 and then Yang activated hers which was above average for 4 going on 5, after Tai chuckled and gained their attention "So I guess it's time to train till you all get your semblance!" exclaimed Tai happy that the three could start to get stronger early.
~6 years later~
Naruto was seen wearing a white dress shirt with a crimson blazer over it and black button up trousers as he sighs and looks around the gate, over the years Naruto grew to be possibly the tallest in his age group while also unlocking his semblance, which required him using markers and being able to teleport to them as long as he can sense them in his 'radar' as Naruto came to call it, his markers attached to the person's aura so they could never get rid of it, unless they somehow changed their aura. He almost always had one on Ruby and Yang and he was more protective of Yang recently though he never knew why, but Tai kept teasing him about loving her and becoming his son-in-law which was insane, right? He sighs before smiling feeling the marker on Yang come within his radar, his radar's range was 1 mile but somehow Yang only ever showed up when she was a couple feet away from him.
He turned to her and smiled at his fellow blode his face heating up at seeing her in the Signal Academy uniform. "Hey dragon! Looking forward to the first day?" He asked her as she neared him smiling at him.
"Duh foxy, we get through these 6 years and we go to Beacon" she smirked and chuckled "And I heard they share rooms with their teams there, which means constant slumber party!" Yang said excitedly making Naruto sigh and shake his head, at least she wasn't talking about guys to him, after all she started to have an intrest in guys recently while Naruto had started gaining an interest in girls.
As they walked down the hallways towards their first class they chatted about making study plans and then talked about music and finally going to watch a movie that weekend with Tai and Ruby to congratulate the two on getting into Signal.
Naruto smiled softly as he entered the classroom and sat at the front, not even 10 minutes later walked in Qrow, over the years he never changed much as he yawned "Alright class..." And that's what Naruto remembers before starting his recording app on his scroll to record Qrow's voice and fell asleep.
~After class~
Naruto woke up with a soft yawn before stopping the recording programme and saving it under Qrow's lessons and named it lesson 1, after 20 minutes their next teacher walked in and Naruto repeated the process until it got to lunch break, where he pulled out his headphones and started to listen to the recordings while walking to his locker, the next class they had was designing their weapon which surprisingly made Naruto excited to have it as he listened to Qrow's lesson he ate his lunch and Yang walked to him and flicked his nose making him yelp "Oi dragon, stop or I will bite, never flick a hungry fox I warned you before" grumbled Naruto as he pouted.
Yang chuckled and sat next to Naruto and picked up his scroll "Qrow's lesson?" Naruto nodded as he continued to eat "You gotta let me download that app" pleaded Yang and Naruto shook his head.
"Then I'd have to download it onto everyone's scroll and gain nothing from it" He yawned and looked at her "Where as me using it alone it allows me to keep it and have full usage and gain knowledge" he sighed and looks at her puppy eyes "I'll send you the recordings tonight once we get home.. stupid dragon"
Yang cheered and hugged Naruto "Foxy for the win!" Shouted Yang making Naruto sigh as he listened to Qrow's lesson and listened to some areas multiple times to remember them until lunch was over.
~Weapon design class~
Naruto entered the class with a foxy grin on as he kept sketching out designs on his scroll and finally came up with one which made his smirk increase "Yes" muttered Naruto as he looked at the paper in front of him "Now to explain it on paper" he mutters and begins to draw the weapon, it was a 3-in-1 weapon, a Scythe which changed to a Sword then to a Sniper Rifle, he wrote down how the components work and the springs and the strength for each spring to help change the weapons mode and Naruto smirked as he ran the weapon through his simulation programme, which he created to test if this weapon would be possible.
When the teacher looked at his design the teacher gaped "M-Mr Uzumaki" Naruto just hummed a response "Would you mind explaining how this weapon would work?" Naruto looked at the teacher before sighing.
"So the Scythe, it's base form, has a tri-pole which when flipped into sword form falls apart and becomes the blades handle and pommel, while the actual blade stays as a blade but folds into a sword, kinda like Qrow's, when it switches into a sniper one of the parts for the handle of the scythe actually has a barrel which allows the firing of dust bullets as well as regular bullets, when switching from sword to sniper one of the poles which have a hidden compartment for a scope comes to the top of the sniper while the rest is just the same, but with a bayonet styled blade at the end" He finished his explaination the showed the teacher the simulation he ran over 200 times since the start of the day with all the calculations "You can thank my scroll for doing the calculations, each time one area failed it would adjust it slightly then run it again and see where it failed again until I got to this masterpiece" he finished with a grin as the teacher and the students listening were trying to keep their jaws off the floor as Yang sigh.
"Dammit foxy you fried their brains" Naruto chuckled sheepishly as he heard the door open and looked to see Qrow walk in and look around and let his eyes stay on Yang before asking "Naruto?" to which Yang nodded and replied "Naruto and his new weapon"
Qrow quirked an eyebrow "So you finally finished it huh?" Naruto nodded proudly and looks at his simulation running the same numbers for another 50 runs and waits for 100 runs to finish.
"Yes I have the perfect calculations!" He smirked as Qrow came over and looks at them with wide eyes.
"You actually did it, you crazy son of a-" he was cut off as the other teacher regained from their stupor and smacked him over the head "No swearing Mr Branwen" scolded the teacher as Qrow sighed and nodded.
The teacher looked at Naruto's work and sighs "How long have you been working on this?" they asked as Naruto looked at them and then to Qrow.
"Since I saw Qrow's Harbinger, I got the idea for the Scythe and sword area but the sniper part was after thinking it could use a bit of range for fights I can't take up close and personal" Naruto replied sheepishly as he chuckled.
Yang sighs before muttering "Foxy really is a genius, I should have believed dad" which made Qrow laugh.
"You damn right Naruto is a genius, he started to make this when he was 6? And made a programme to run simulations to see if it will work all by the age of 11 and a recording programme that can pick a voice and single it out, I mean come on you're making some of the teachers look like amatures" Qrow grumbled before chuckling "At least you can start to see how Ruby's will work before she joins in 2 years" Naruto looks confused beforr realizations runs through his eyes and he smirks.
"That's where I got the idea for the sniper barrel in the scythe's handle from" He grabs his scroll and shows the simulation for Ruby's Crimson Rose as he smirks "And I woulda designed and simulated stuff for Yang had she not adamantly refused it" Naruto grumbles with a pout.
Yang laughs "I don't want you using anything related to Ember Celica after all they aren't anything close to something you'd use" Naruto nodded in acceptanct of the reasoning before sighing.
"So what do I do now teach?" Asked Naruto as he handed in his weapon designs with all the calculations for the strength of each spring and the measurements for each part.
"Well I guess you could assist people in designing theirs if they want help?"
Naruto walked over to Yang and sighed as he pointed to a number "That needs to be down 1 and that next to it up 2" he chuckled at her incredulous look as he showed her a simulation he did for her weapon without permission "Sorry?" he muttered.
She pouted "I don't care how fluffly your tail is you're sleeping on the couch tonight" She said to him, let it be known in the last 6 years Naruto and Yang have slept in the same before with a small pillow wall between them, only one of them rolls over it and they were inseparable, well until she threatened him he had to stay on the couch. His eyes widened as he heard Qrow laughing and mutter 'whipped'.
"B-But Yannnnng!" He pouted and looks away "Stupid dragon! I will sleep with cookie monster then" he walks away and sat at his desk with his head in his arms not noticing the slightly pained look on Yang's face as she whispered to herself about being an idiot.
Qrow knew why and walked over to Naruto, "Hey brat" Naruto looks at him and yawns before repying with a hum "How do you feel about Yang?" Now that got a reaction as Naruto looked away but if the tinge of red on the tip of his human like ears and the perking up of his fox ears was anything to go by Qrow got his answer. "Tell uncle Qrow, c'mon" he egged on as Naruto grumbled "Didn't hear ya."
Naruto blinked and looked at Qrow and the Yang then back to Qrow "I dunno how I feel, I know she's special to me but so is Ruby but whenever I'm with the stupid dragon everything feels... I dunno" he thought and then scrunched his face in thought "I dunno whole?" He mutters.
Qrow laughs softly "You have a crush on her brat" Naruto shakes his head negative to deny it but Qrow smirks "You feel whole around her, you are protective and always making sure everything that is hers is done right-" When Qrow saw Naruto about to retort he raised his hand to stop it "Wait till I finish" Naruto sughed but nodded "Lemme guess your heart races around her?" Naruto nodded softly "And you feel the need to be by her side always?" Again Naruto nodded beforr his eyes widen.
"B-But I can't be... Yang and Ruby are like sisters to me... And even if it were true Yang probably likes someone else" Naruto grumbles as he looks away "If I get into my 4th year and me and Yang are still single.." Naruto sighed and looked at Qrow "Then I'll ask her out" he chuckles "It's only 3 years away" Naruto sighs and leans his head in his arms "But if you tell her beforehand Qrow I'll make sure your badluck gets worse" Naruto threatened, that's another thing Naruto figured out one night when speaking to a drunken Qrow, his semblance was bad luck, which is why he wasn't around much during their earlier lives and when training was extremely careful around them.
Qrow sighed and nodded "Let's just hope you and Yang stay single then" Naruto looked confused by that "You two will balance each other out, your rational thinking balances out her head strong approach to just hit everything that attempts to harm her" He chuckled "Imagine if you two got on the same team in beacon as the same pair huh?" Naruto blushes and looks away muttering about 'dusty old crows who taught him to fight' making Qrow laugh "But seriously kid" Naruto looked at Qrow when he heard Qrow's tone lighten up "You better keep your promise" Naruto nodded and smiled.
"I never break promises Qrow, I'm an Uzumaki after all" Naruto said softly with tears in his eyes, when he realized them he asked to go to the toilet and after getting permission left, hoping his tears would go unnoticed, but a certain Blonde girl looks at Qrow who walked over.
"What's up squirt?" Asked Qrow which got the reaction he wanted as Yang growled.
"Why was he crying?" Yang asked softly as she looked at Qrow who smiled sadly and sat next to her "Did I hurt him?"
Qrow shook his head muttering about 'young love' before replying "Did he ever tell you why he started to live with you?" Yang shook her head, it was always a subject they avoided as it seemed sensitive to Naruto. "Well I guess I'll tell you, as I broke the news to him as well" he took a deep breathe before continuing "You remember Naruto's mom Kushina?" Yang nodded "Well on Naruto's 5th birthday she couldn't make it as she had a mission, during which she was attacked, he body was left mangled and the only recoverable thing was her sword" Yang's eyes widened as she remembered waking up to Naruto crying for his mom. "The Uzumaki's always had a saying that they never ever break a promise and Kushina accidentally broke hers to Naruto on that mission, she died and never came back, Naruto for a while thought what Kushina told him was a lie about the promise thing, before one night while he was training with her sword he found a voice recording which gave Naruto the idea for his recording programme" He sighs and repeats what Naruto told them "It said, 'hey kit happy 5th birthday, you're making mommy proud, though you always will, I know I went back on my word but sometimes to protect the ones you love you have to break a few promises, mommy is protecting you and everyone she loves by doing this mission and probably won't come back, I love you Naruto, be strong my little kit' and that's when it just ended, nothing after, when her body was found her sword was further away, she purposefully threw her sword to save the message" (in the quote marks I put what Naruto told them) Qrow looked at Yang who was staring at him and smiled "So that's why for the first year he enjoyed being hugged and loved Tai calling him kit, it reminded him he wasn't alone"
Yang nodded as she looked at Qrow "Then I'll promise to make sure he will never have to be alone. Again" She said with clear conviction that made even the drunken Qrow sober up a bit and chuckle.
"Then first step is to apologize about him simulating the gauntlet, he was doing it for your safety after all" Yang nodded as Qrow left. After that day Naruto and Yang's feelings for each other just increased as they spent more and more time together.
~3 years later 4th year at Signal~
Naruto glanced at Yang and sighs as he built up his confidence to confront the young beauty about his feelings for her "Yang/Naruto" they said in sync "You go first" they said again before Naruto chuckled shaking his head "You should" Yang sighed and nodded.
"I wanted to know why you asked me to meet you here" she motioned to a tree in the backyard of Kushina's old house which was still owned by Naruto.
Naruto chuckled softly and scratched the back of his head "You see.. Yang I uh" Naruto stuttered over his words for a few minutes before calming down and slowly looking at Yang "Yang I have feelings for you, I like you more than an average or best friend or even sister, I know it's stupid but I think I love you" Naruto slowly started to mumble and when he said it he expected to be hit, but what happened made his eyes widen and his body to go stiff, Yang had captured his lips with her own before Naruto slowly melted into the kiss and closed his eyes, this was the scene a now 12 year old Ruby Rose walked into the yard to.
"Ew, yuck, their kissing dad!" Shouted Ruby snapping the two out of their kiss enduced as Tai came out chuckling followed by Qrow who smirked at Naruto "Hey dad why did they kiss actually?"
Naruto blushed as did Yang as Qrow smirked "Oh that's because they just started dating and your sister is too stubborn to say her feelings without having to kiss her new boyfriend" explained Qrow as if it was the simplist thing in the world.
Ruby looked at her dad who nodded and then to Yang and Naruto who nodded, although nervously and soon Ruby groaned out a "Finally" as she started to bounce around the yard whooping.
"Huh?" Was the smart reply of the now dating blondes
A/N: Decided to end the chapter with, personally, my favorite blondes dating, there will be a timeskip at the start of chapter 2 till them starting Beacon and the whole Ruby and Torchwick part but there will be mentions of how they all trained within it and how strong they are, especially with the duos new reasons to get stronger.
