Author's Notes

Yes, that's right, 2 chapters in one day. Don't expect this upload frequency to be consistent, how often I write depends completely on how I'm feeling. I plan to gradually introduce Kei to the main characters of Naruto. I will spend a bit of time going over some Anbu missions with Kakashi. For anybody who watches the movies I will have an arc dedicated to the events the prelude Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow. But for now, an escort mission. I figured it would be a good way to start.

Feedback is always welcome.

I do not own Naruto.

Please enjoy.

Chapter 2

As happy as I am to have been transferred to the Hokage's Anbu division, I'm not ignorant as to why he allowed my transfer. Kekkei Genkai users are always valuable. A Kekkei Genkai gives the user an advantage that most ninja don't have and oftentimes they become very valuable assets, assets the village is in dire need of while recovering from the Nine Tails attack. Of course my value as an asset doesn't mean I can be trusted just yet. While I did give myself up I was technically a part of a plan to assassinate the Hokage, so they have no reason to trust me just yet. Hence the current source of my boredom: Uchiha watch duty.

After the Nine Tails attack, a fair amount of people believed the Uchiha clan was responsible due to the Sharingan's ability to control the tailed beasts. This concern resulted in the Anbu having to maintain a constant watch over the clan grounds.

The job had enough people to watch my actions, and had little consequence should I turn out to be a traitor. The only problem is that with my ability to constantly see everything in my surroundings, I can do little more than just stand around waiting for something interesting to happen. So far the most interesting thing that's happened was a Hyuga who passed by the clan and started a shouting fight with an Uchiha store owner.

I was literally counting the seconds tick by on the clock when it was time to change shifts. My replacement showed up and we wordlessly switched places, or well, he did it wordlessly, I left with a triumphant whoop.

One of my favorite pastimes is walking around Konoha. I had been all around Konoha before on certain tasks from Danzo, but that was hardly enjoying the village like I can do now. There were children running about, shop owners trying to sell wares, and shinobi flying over rooftops from above.

It's around dinner time when I get out of work so I usually change out of uniform at Anbu HQ and then head to Ichiraku's.

When I first realized I was in the Naruto world there were three things on my To Do List: One, escape from Danzo, Two, read Icha Icha (purely out of curiosity) but the first volume has yet to be released, and Three, go to Ichiraku Ramen.

One of the things most people never think of when it comes to reincarnation is that food tastes different. In my past life I disliked more foods than I liked, but since reincarnating that's changed. It's odd but nice.

"Kei-san!" Teuchi greeted, "What can I get for you?"

"The usual please." I set my sunglasses on the table. I quickly found out that my eyes draw more attention than I'm comfortable with. Most ninja don't like being looked at by dojutsu and most civilians just find my eyes pretty and end up staring. Due to the fact that I can't turn them off I decided to wear sunglasses for everyone's comfort. I usually take them off when I eat here though, Teuchi never really drew attention to my eyes so it's nice to relax.

"How's work going?"

"Dull, as usual. I hope they send me on some real missions soon, I might die of boredom soon." Teuchi laughed and placed a bowl in front of me, the aroma from the ramen making my stomach grumble in anticipation.

Just as I was about to dig in, someone appeared behind me. It was one of the Hokage's anbu. I quickly turned my head to look at him and he spoke.

"Hokage-sama requests your presence," he informed

I just looked at him for a second, "Can I eat first?"

"No"

Figured. Sighing, I stood up and thanked Teuchi, promising to be back later.

Once we arrived in the Hokage's office my Anbu escort quickly announced my presence and vanished in a shunshin.

I wasn't the only one in the room. Along with me and the Hokage was Kakashi.

"Hello Kei, how has the Uchiha compound been?" I brought my attention back to the Hokage

"Boring as usual sir, nothing of any interest has happened, as it says in my report." As much as I appreciate the Hokage's friendliness, I have ramen waiting for me, so I'd like to get this over with quickly.

Seemingly sensing my thoughts, he quickly got to the point, "Good. I have a mission for you and Kakashi," a mission? Finally! Something other than watching the Uchiha Clan grounds. The Hokage seemed to find my excitement amusing as he continued, "It's a B-rank escort mission, out of mask. One of Konoha's main metal suppliers was attacked on his trip here by a group of ninja. Your task is to guard him on his way to the Land of Wind. If possible, you are to find out who is responsible for the attack. Any questions?" No answers, "Good. You'll depart tomorrow morning."

After being dismissed, Kei all but ran out of the room. Out of excitement or hunger was unknown though. Kakashi turned to the Hokage.

"Are you sure about this sir?" Kakashi questioned. They still had yet to determine if the boy was trustworthy.

A bitter smile appeared on Hiruzen's face, "Unfortunately we don't have a choice in the matter. Konoha's still recovering and we can't afford to leave someone like him on Uchiha watch duty. Besides, he has yet to prove untrustworthy. I'm sure it will be fine"

Kakashi looked at the door Kei had just left from, "I hope you're right."
