Author's Notes.

Here it is folks. The first, albeit short (I've got to work on that a bit), chapter in the Chunin Exam Infiltration arc, and yes Shisui!

Just so no one is confused I'll do a quick info dump. I couldn't find Shisui's exact age but I do know that when Itachi was 6 (how old he currently is in the my fanfic) Shisui was still a genin, but despite his genin status he had already started gathering fame under the name Shunshin no Shisui. I don't believe it states his exact age for becoming a chunin but I do know that he became he becomes one some time between when Itachi was 6 and 8 since he was a jounin when Itachi was 8. I also couldn't find any info on Shisui's original genin squad other than that his best friend was a member and that he died.

To answer a question I received in the reviews, I made Kei around the same age as Yamato, maybe a bit younger. According to my research, Yamato graduated from the academy at the age of 6 (which was normal at the time since, because the war, students were graduating much earlier so they could be sent into battle faster) and he became a chunin at the age of 6 as well. I did the math, assuming he was also discovered by Danzo (and experimented on y Orochimaru) around the age of 6, and the fact that he's 26 during Shippuden, he would have been around 10 when the Nine Tails attacked and maybe 11 when he was sent to assassinate the Hokage.

As for him being more of a prodigy than Itachi, maybe? He does have the Tenseigan after all, so he does have a major advantage. But I would like to mention that Itachi entered the academy and graduated from it at the age of 6 when people were supposed to graduate at 12. He was also held back from taking the Chunin Exams twice because of his team. In fact after the second time the village leaders forced Itachi's sensei to let him participate in the exams by himself, and he passed.

Thanks for the question, I hope you understand why I had Kei as old as he is now.

Chapter 11

The Chunin Exams. A series of trials to test genin to see if they are ready to become a chunin, typically consisting of a written test, a practical test, and 1 on 1 battles. Although each exam is never the same as the last with the exception of the 1 on 1 battles.

Typically the test is also used as a source of entertainment for the citizens as well as an opportunity to show off strength to nobles and country leaders, and an opportunity for them to gamble.

The villages had always held their own individual exams, and due to the war the standards for becoming a chunin had lowered significantly in an attempt to get more chunin squad leaders into the battlefield. The villages have always held their own exams individually, giving them the freedom to make such actions. Until now that is.

After the Third Great Ninja War, Konoha proposed the idea of a Chunin Exam open to all villages to improve relations between the ninja villages, in the end the idea was agreed on and these exams were going to start being held twice a year, rotating between villages, starting with Konoha as the ones who proposed the idea.

"So… tell me again what you want me to do."

Today I was called to the Hokage's office for a mission. Since the escort mission with Kakashi I had been on a few more missions with him, a few more escort missions, some extermination missions, and a capture mission. Although this mission is a new one for me.

Standing in front of me was not only the Hokage but the entire Konoha Council, all three of them, Homura Mitokado, Koharu Utatane, and one Danzo Shimura. It took a lot of effort to not constantly glare at the last one.

The council seemed to grow irritated at having to explain it again but Lord Third explained anyway, looking more tired and resigned than irritated.

"Since we are hosting the first ever Chunin Exam open to all ninja villages we have deemed it necessary to assign someone to join the exams as a fake examinee to make sure the other villages don't try something during the tests. Due to you being the youngest member in the Anbu, and still being relatively unknown, we have decided to send you in."

I looked at them for a moment. So by "we" they mean the council, this isn't something Lord Third would do, he's too trusting.

"But haven't I already passed the chunin exams, before Orochimaru's experiments?" I asked. Homura was the one who responded.

"Yes, but that was when we held our own individual exams, none of the other villages need to know your status as a chunin, or an Anbu." I see, that makes sense, and due to my lack of reputation it's highly unlikely that anybody will recognize me from my Anbu work.

"Will I have information on the tests beforehand?" In order to best monitor the tests I'd need to actually participate in them, while I doubt I'd fail, there's still a chance. It would also allow me to best spot something out of place.

"Yes, you will," Koharu said.

"What about my team?" I questioned.

"You will be filling a spot in a team with the genin we consider most likely to pass, it will limit the advantage your presence gives them, and allow you to move more freely," Lord Third answered. "But they will not be aware of your true objective."

"Alright."

Lord Third nodded to me and made a minute flare of his chakra, signaling someone to come in. An Anbu entered the room with a shunshin and handed me a folder, and then promptly left the same way he came in.
"That folder contains all you need to know about the team you will be placed with, you will be meeting them in person tomorrow at the Third Training Ground," the Third Hokage informed, "Good luck."

After politely bowing, and totally not sending Danzo a dirty look, I promptly left the Hokage office and started making my way out the building.

I looked down at the folder. Well, let's see who I'll be teamed up with. I opened it up and looked at the first file.

Suzu Ide, a civilian kunoichi capable of water style nature transformation. Rather well rounded with her abilities possessing high genin level skills in taijutsu and genjutsu, and chunin level skills in ninjutsu. All in all, she's a fairly standard examinee.

I flipped to the next file and what I saw caused me to stop walking entirely. I see why they say he's the genin most likely to pass now.

Capable of fire style, wind style, and lighting style nature transformation. Taijutsu is jounin level, ninjutsu is jounin level, and genjutsu is jounin level despite still being a genin. Saying that he's likely to pass is an understatement, he's practically guaranteed to pass. But that wasn't all, I recognized his name, from both past life and present one.

"Well damn," I muttered. I almost forgot about him.

Shisui Uchiha.
