Chapter 36: M Quest 2: The Legendary Hero - Yuugi

"Shit." Honda winced as he and Anzu blocked off the door with the movable equipment. "We gotta hold them back."

In the Adventure Game virtual world...

"I'll show you how foolish it was of you to challenge me, boy." the masked Mai laughed.

"Shut up!" Jonouchi snapped. "I'll show you up for the fraud champion that you really are. Let's get this started. Get on out here, 'Flame Swordsman'."

"In that case, I'll play this card." Mai drew a card. "'Harpie Lady'!"

"'The 'Harpie'?" Jonouchi echoed. "But I've got more Attack Points on my side. Go, 'Flame Swordsman'."

"How naive." Mai tsked. "Allow me to stop that attack of yours. 'Mirror Wall'!" she played the Trap Card.

This attack pattern is... Jonouchi frowned.

"You're about a hundred years too early to be sparring with my Harpie." Mai mocked.

There's no doubt in my mind. Jonouchi sweatdropped. There's only one person on this planet with an attitude like that.

"It's my turn again." Mai drew another card. "'Rose Whip'!" she played the Equipment Card.

"Wait." Jonouchi took off his mask.

"Jonouchi?" Mai pulled off her mask.

"It really is Mai." Yuugi beamed as he and Mokuba leapt into the arena.

"Yuugi, Mokuba." Mai blinked. "Why the heck are you guys here?"

"That's what we'd like to know." Jonouchi replied.

"My big brother's been kidnapped." Mokuba explained.

"Kaiba's life is in danger as long as he stays in this game world." Yuugi added. "We're all friends. We shouldn't be fighting each other here."

"I guess we have to fight if we wanna save Kaiba." Jonouchi noted, hearing the protests from the audience. "We need that card to cross the desert."

"S, you just need that card, right?" Mai grinned. "If that's all... to be honest, I've been wanting to get away from here myself." she winked and had 'Harpie Lady' use the 'Rose Whip' to snatch the 'Niwatori' card. "Run away!" she ditched her cloak and led the boys out of the Colosseum.

In the desert...

"That sure looks impossible to cross by foot." Mai admitted, spotting the sandstorm ahead. Pulling out the 'Niwatori' card, she summoned four Niwatoris as steeds to cross the desert.

"But what are you doing here anyway?" Jonouchi asked on his Niwatori.

"I was invited to play some new game and then I realized I couldn't get out of this world." Mai explained.

"Kujaku Mai is also trapped in a simulator?" Mokuba echoed. "What the?" he exclaimed when the ground started breaking underneath their feet. "'Sand Stone'!" he recognized the stone-like serpent that rose from the ground.

"Man, this is annoying." Jonouchi spat. "Come on out! Red-Eyes!" he summoned 'Red-Eye Black Dragon'. "Dark Mega Flare!" he took out 'Sand Stone'.

"Looks like that 'Sand Stone' was the one making the sandstorm." Yuugi noted when the sandstorm died down.

"So, where are we going?" Mai asked.

"My brother's trapped in the Cave of Death over by that mountain." Mokuba pointed.

At the mountain range...

"We finally made it." Mai heaved in relief.

"God, he gets too worked up with it comes to Kaiba." Jonouchi sighed when Mokuba jumped off his 'Niwatori' and ran straight for the temple.

In the cave...

"Why the heck does the Cave of Death have to be like this?" Jonouchi shivered.

"It's creepy." Mai agreed.

"In any case, we have no choice but to keep moving forward." Yuugi reminded.

"It can't be..." Jonouchi breathed, the group entering a room that a wooden door led into. "It's the Labyrinth Field. This ain't good. Damn, we're trapped." he cursed when the door shut behind them.

"I see." Yuugi realized. "This world seems to be modeled on various Duels from the Duelist Kingdom. If that's the case, there's got to be an exit around here. Someone's here." he noted, the group hearing a scream from afar. "'Labyrinth Tank'!?" he gaped when the the drill tank blocked the back path. "Run!" he led Mai and Mokuba into the maze with the ' Labyrinth Tank' chasing them.

"This bastard." Jonouchi cursed, having joined up with the others when their forward path was blocked off by another 'Labyrinth Tank'. "I better get rid of it."

"We're trapped." Mai gaped when the group found themselves cornered by three 'Labyrinth Tanks'.

"'Magical Hats'!" Yuugi played the Spell card, enabling the group to escape the 'Labyrinth Tank' attack. "From before..." he blinked when Earu appeared before them again.

"Does that mean it's trying to guide us away from here?" Jonouchi wondered when Earu gestured for them to follow her.

"Earu." Princess Adena greeted the her guide.

"Mokuba." Jonouchi blinked. "Why the heck are you dressed like that?"

"Stupid." Mokuba retorted. "I'm right over here."

"They look exactly the same." Jonouchi gawked.

"So, the person who screamed before was you?" Mokuba asked his female counterpart.

"Save the introductions for later." Jonouchi cut in. "For now, do you know where the exit is?"

"I am sorry." Princess Adena shook her head. "But Earu can guide us."

"Shit." Jonouchi growled, the exit was blocked by 'Gate Guardian'. "He really did appear. Just leave it to us." he assured. "Let's go, Yuugi. 'Red-eyes Black Dragon'!"

"'Summoned Skull'!" Yuugi played his card. "'Polymerization'!"

The two Duelist fused the two Monsters into 'Black Skull Dragon'.

"We're not done yet." Jonouchi grinned. "'Dragon Nails'!" he equipped the 'Black Skull Dragon' with the Equipment card and enabling it to take out 'Gate Guardian'.

"Adena-sama!" Bara led the castle guards into the cave.

"Bara." Princess Adena sighed in relief at the appearance of the matron.

"And who might these people behind you be?" Bara blinked.

"These people just saved my life." Princess Adena explained. "I'd like to invite you all to the castle as thanks for saving me."

In Gouland...

"By the way, Princess, did you hear news about my big brother by any chance?" Mokuba asked at the dining table.

"In the Gouland Kingdom as well as the neighboring one, we are forced to make sacrifices once a year." Princess Adena admitted. "If we do not make sacrifices to the Five God Dragon, it shall destroy our land completely. I heard the other kingdom has offered up a prince from a faraway land."

"That's big brother." Mokuba realized. "Where's my brother?"

"I'm certain he's being held in the Dark Castle of the Sky." Princess Adena replied.

"How do we get there?" Yuugi asked.

"Please look at the picture over there." Princess Adena nodded. "This is a legend from a thousand years ago. This is the ancient ship used to get to the Dark Castle of the Sky. However, we are unsure where to find this legendary artifact."

"Can't we used our Monsters to get there?" Mai wondered.

"The Dark Castle of the Sky is surrounded by a barrier that even Monsters cannot cross." Princess Adena explained.

"Then, have you decided on your sacrifice?" Mai inquired.

"Yes," Princess Adena looked away. "It's me. But I believe you guys may be able to save this land. The legend speaks of a group of legendary heroes that come to fight the dragon. It states 'When the strongest dragon teams up, the Evil God will be destroyed'. I am convinced that you can save this world."

"What the heck is going on?" Jonouchi questioned when the skies grew overcast and thunder cracked across the sky.

Everyone looked up at the darkened sky to see the Castle appear from the clouds and a massive group of aerial Monsters, mostly 'Whiptail Crows', 'Morinphens', 'Mega Thunderballs' and 'Ocubeams' emerge from the Castle.

"They really came awfully fast." Jonouchi noted.

"'Dark Witch'!" Mai summoned her flying Monster to battle.

"It's no good." Yuugi realized 'Dark Witch' was outnumbered. "There's too many opponents. Mai, call 'Dark Witch' back. I've got no choice but to battle them all. I activate 'Black Hole'!" he activated the Spell card once 'Dark Witch' was recalled. "Destroy all the Monsters. What?" he gaped when the card was knocked out of his hand by a kunai.

"Damnit." Jonouchi snapped. "'Armed Ninja' has the effect to destroy one Magic card."

"Princess." Yuugi gaped when 'Armed Ninja' cast a net to capture Princess Adena.

"'Axe Raider'!" Jonouchi played the Monster card. "Attack with the 'Kunai with Chain'!" he added the Equipment card to the said monster, enabling it to take out 'Armed Ninja'.

A 'Whiptail Crow' swooped in and carried the captive off.

"No way..." Princess Adena muttered in disbelief after the raid. "Mokuba-sama..."

"By Mokuba-sama..." Jonouchi blinked. "You mean, you're..."

"Then the one taken..." even Mai was shocked.

"It was Mokuba-sama." Princess Adena admitted, relating how Mokuba had convinced her to swap clothes with him.

"Over there." Yuugi looked down from the castle wall.

"It almost looks like the Nazca geoglyphs." Jonouchi noticed the drawing on the ground.

"Take a closer look at the pattern." Yuugi insisted.

"Could that be a card of some kind?" Mai exclaimed.

"Princess," Yuugi started. "How long ago did that legend take place?"

"1000 years, I believe." Princess Adena replied.

On the ground...

"The flying machine has been lying dormant for 1000 years." Yuugi explained. "In that case, we just have to go back 1000 years. Why does this symbol resemble that of a card? It's meant to be revived by a card. Jonouchi, you have the card to do it."

"That's it." Jonouchi drew his card. "We can really go back 1000 years using this: the 'Time Wizard'. But it's a gambler's card. There's no guarantee it will work."

"We have to save Kaiba and Mokuba by any means necessary." Yuugi reminded.

"We're counting on you, 'Time Wizard'." Jonouchi prayed. "Go back 1000 years: Time Magic!"
