Chapter 55: The Mask's Curse - High-Rise Duel

"Understood." Kaiba responded, having received an update from his staff. "I've successfully located your friends' location."

"Sorry, Kaiba." Yami Yuugi noted.

"Don't misunderstand me." Kaiba snorted. "I have no interest in that nobody. I just want to hurry and get your God Card."

"Kaiba, let me say one thing." Yami Yuugi started. "Right now, Jonouchi is a very talented duelist. I won't allow you to insult him. I promised that I would fight with Jonouchi in Battle City. As a duelist, a true match."

"Just follow me." Kaiba instructed. "In order to save your friends."

"They must around here." Yami Yuugi stopped in front of the aquarium.

"Our Satellite Search should be able to catch any duels your friend engages in." Kaiba agreed. "There's no doubt. To be able to care so much about a nobody like him, he's one guy that's hard to understand." he snorted, as Yami Yuugi dashed towards the aquarium.

Marik-sama. Lumis contacted Marik telepathically. "We've confirmed that Kaiba really does holds the 'Obelisk'.

I see. Marik responded. "Why does this Kaiba person able to wield 'Obelisk'? Not just any being can use the God Cards. They choose their wielders."

"You won't have to worry about that when we get 'Obelisk' back." Umbra assured. "It will be actually be rather humorous when he falls."

"Can you take them back?" Marik inquired. "'Obelisk the Tormentor' and 'Slifer the Sky Dragon' that was taken by Yuugi?"

"Of course." Lumis chuckled. "If we use the God Seal Deck you prepared for us."

"Alright." Marik gave Lumis and Umbra the go-ahead. "You guys take the front-line. But don't' go killing them off now. The Pharaoh must endure the suffering I inflict upon him. So he feels the pain my tribe has endured protecting him. I will then finish him off myself."

"Could it be the Ghouls have already..." Yami Yuugi breathed in horror, recalling what Strings had informed them after his call to Anzu was cut off.

"Don't panic, Yuugi." Kaiba assured. "I told Mokuba to contact me as soon as they found their location. We'll find their location."

On the roof of a nearby building...

"Nii-sama." Mokuba reported in. "It's strange. I've lost complete trace of Jonouchi and the others. After his duel earlier, Jonouchi's Duel Disk seems to have been locked. I'm going back to Headquarters to search for alternatives."

On the ground...

"We can't find the nobody's location." Kaiba informed. "Kaiba Corporation's Satellite System is perfect, but still..."

With Mokuba and Ami...

"Mokuba, get back." Ami shifted the younger boy behind her as the pair found themselves cornered by a group of Ghouls Marik sent out. "Mokuba, turn around, close your eyes and cover your ears." she instructed. "I don't want you to get caught in this."

"Right." Mokuba nodded and did what he was told.

Her eyes sharpened in intensity, Ami materialized the Millennium Scales.

The four Ghouls were taken aback when they found themselves surrounded by scriptures of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. A bestial growl then alerted them that Ammit, the 'Devourer of the Dead', had appeared near her mistress' feet, said 'Eater of the Hearts' was snarling at her owner's enemies.

"Balance of Curse." Ami, taking on Maat's form, activated the Millennium Scales' Ability and ripped out one of the Ghoul's still beating heart, placing it on one of the pans of the Scales to be Judged. Ammit licked her lips as the prospect of a snack.

"Maat-sama..." the cloaked Rishid went on one knee before the reincarnated Goddess of Order.

"This boy is under my protection." Maat informed Rishid. "You know what that means, don't you?"

"Yes..." Rishid answered.

With Yami Yuugi and Kaiba...

"Ghouls?" Kaiba stopped short when Lumis appeared in front of them.

"Nii-sama!" Mokuba ran up to Kaiba and Yami Yuugi.

"We failed, huh?" Lumis snorted, seeing their plan to use Mokuba as a hostage was not successful. "Never mind that." he pointed to the building in the distance. "Our duel will take place atop on that skyscraper. You're to come too, Yuugi, if you want to see those friends of yours ever again. Hurry along." he took off.

On the skyscraper...

"Good of you guys to come." Lumis snarled. "But we are yet to introduce ourselves. We are the warriors of the Ghouls, Lumis."

"Umbra." Umbra introduced himself.

"We are a Tag Team assembled for the sole purpose of getting the God Cards back." Lumis declared. "Now then, allow me to explain the rules of this match. This will be a Tag Duel, us against the both of you. Any duelist to lose all of their Life Points first will be removed from the game. The remaining player must then work harder to defeat the opposing team. But be careful, because losing the game means death. The building we're fighting on is 300 meters above the ground. On top of that, there's nothing separating you from the solid ground if you were to fall. Meaning, the only thing holding up our very lives are these glass windows and nothing more. Every duelist's glass block has been equipped with a bomb. The moment the Life Counter reaches zero, the player's glass square will scatter. The players will fall right through and pummel to their deaths. So that make this an 'Explosive Tag Match of Death'."

"Is that all you can say?" Kaiba smirked. "Looks like you Ghouls lack the most pride out of anyone. In that case, my deck will answer you with all my anger."

You really think you can beat us? Lumis grinned. With my Mask Sealing Deck that holds the power of restricting, you can't use your God Cards.

There's no way you can win while facing the Lumis and Umbra Tag Team. Even Umbra was confident.

"It's my turn first." Lumis took his turn.

In a Duel Monsters Tag Battle, the rule states that each team's players fight turns opposite of each other. Yami Yuugi recalled the rules.

"I set 2 cards." Lumis placed two cards face down. "Turn over. Yuugi, it's your turn."

Reverse cards? Yami Yuugi mused. "My card is 'Beta The Magnet Warrior' in Defense Mode. Turn over." all players are unable to attack within the first turn. What kind of strategy will they play?

"My turn." Umbra took his turn. "'Shining Abyss' in Defense Mode."

"The moment Partner Summoned his Monster." Lumis laughed.

"Magic Card?" Yami Yuugi realized.

"The Magic Card: 'Mask of Brutality'." Lumis activated one of his face-down cards.

"My Monster powers up because of that Mask card." Umbra chuckled.

"Within one turn, they are able to play a Monster with 2600 Attack Points." Kaiba was shocked.

"But, the drawback is that the Monster equipped with this card will cause us to lose 1000 Life Points on every of our Standby Phase." Lumis reminded. "However..."

"You don't need to worry about hat, Partner." Umbra assured. "I'll also set the Continuous Magic 'Masked Doll'. This doll will now take all the negative effects caused by our Mask cards."

"Which means the negative effects of 'Mask of Brutality' have been negated." Lumis chuckled.

"I see." Yami Yuugi noted. "Within their Tag Duel, they hold complete teamwork with one another."

"Nonsense." Kaiba snorted. "Teamwork only holds one back in a fight. My turn. Reverse card, set." he placed two cards face-down. "I then Summon 'Vorse Raider'. I put this guy in Attack Mode and end my turn."
