Chapter 67: Jonouchi vs. Trap Deck!
"We will now hold the lottery for the second round of the Battle City finals." Isono had gathered the contestants in the lobby.
"Ultimate Bingo Machine, start." Mokuba started the bingo machine.
"The first duelist in the second match will be Number Two." Isono reported. "Katsuya Jonouchi. And his opponent is Number Seven: Marik Ishtar."
"It's Marik." Jonouchi glared at Rishid.
Marik, the duelist who holds the third God Card. Yuugi frowned. Also the man who brainwashed Jonouchi and forced us to fight each other.
"Marik, I'm going to beat you with my own two hands." Jonouchi promised.
On the Aerial Duel Ring...
"We will now begin the second round of the tournament." Isono declared. "Katsuya Jonouchi vs Marik Ishtar."
Listen up, ya brainwashing bastard. Jonouchi glared as he and Rishid shuffled their own decks. Daring to insult the bond between me and my friends, you asked for a serious beat down, you asshole. "What the hell is he doing?" he wondered, Rishid showing the faux Millennium Rod and keeping it. 'Here goes, Marik."
With that declaration, the duel started.
"I get to go first." Jonouchi took the first turn. It's true I don't have the Red-Eyes in my deck. But even so, I'm gonna win. I'll beat Marik and get his God Card. "My turn. I play this. 'Gearfried the Iron Knight' in Attack Mode. I'm not gonna give you the chance to attack first. Turn end."
"My turn." Rishid took his turn. "Field Magic activate. 'Temple of the Kings'. This has now become a sanctuary for the Pharaoh's treasures. All beings other than the Tomb Guardians must humble themselves before this sacred ground. And due to this card's effect, you're limited to one set card per turn. Powerful traps are set to pass judgment against thieves and robbers." he set two cards face-down. "My turn will now come to an end. So, Jonouchi, do you have the courage to step into the sacred grounds and face this trap-filled territory?"
"My turn." Jonouchi took his turn. "Summon 'Tiny Guardian'. I'll end my turn right there."
"My turn." Rishid took his turn. "I set two more reverse cards. My turn is over."
"My turn." Jonouchi drew a card. "I'll Summon another Monster. Come out, 'Hayabusa Knight'. Marik, you fell for my trap. Magic Card activate: 'Giant Trunade'."
"Jonouchi, you're the one who fell into my trap." Rishid corrected, 'Giant Trunade' was nullified.
"Giant Trunade's effect just disappeared?" Jonouchi gasped.
"You may have thought that my Trap Cards were activated by a Monster's attack." Rishid stated. "But I was waiting for you to activate a Magic Card. I know that you possess the 'Giant Trunade'. You didn't play any set cards as per the effect of 'Giant Trunade' because they would have been futilely sent back to your hand. Human beings are foolish beyond words. They don't bother doing anything they deem useless effort. But such thoughts only put your life in danger. Jonouchi, such tactics are child's play to me, the great Marik. This is the Trap Card you deserve. 'Judgment of Anubis'. This card activates when the opponent uses a Magic Card. Every Monster on their field is destroyed and your opponents then receives half of their Attack Points as damage to their Life Points. The total Attack Power of your Monsters were 4200. Therefore, you receive damage of 2100 to your Life Points as judgment. Jonouchi, this is only the beginning of the true traps you will fall into. So then, your turn is not yet complete."
"Listen up, Marik." Jonouchi stated. "This past turn I set up you in a trap to test your ability. But it seems that I may have underestimated you a bit. I'm glad. Because you're the 21st duelist to force me to play seriously. So I'm gonna play for real now. Alright then, Marik. It's your turn, so let me have it."
"My turn." Rishid drew a card. "I'll set two cards face-down this turn. Turn end."
"That's cheap, you jerk." Jonouchi retorted. "All you do is set Trap Cards all the time. Don't you have the courage to fight me fair and square? You coward."
"A Trap deck is a brilliant strategy." Rishid defended. "You have no right to call me a coward just because you can't comprehend it."
"Then, allow me to show the true way to play Duel Monsters." Jonouchi snarled. "My turn. I Summon 'Alligator's Sword', Attack Mode." there's no doubt in my mind that those five reverse cards are all Trap Cards. If I'm not careful when I attack, I'll fall right into his traps.
"Whatever is the matter?" Rishid asked. "Did you not say you were going to show me how to duel?"
I can't... Jonouchi growled. I can't attack him. "I play a reverse card and end my turn. Now it's your turn."
"In that case, I will simply end my turn without doing anything." Rishid passed his turn.
Darn it all. Jonouchi twitched. So, his plan's to just sit by and wait for me to attack? I won't fall for something like that. "Then, my turn is over as well." he passed his turn.
"Then, I will simply draw on my turn." Rishid remarked. "Turn over."
"My turn." Jonouchi drew a card. "I Summon 'Rocket Warrior'. My pride as a duelist won't let me back down from a challenge. Just like I promised, I'm gonna show you what a true duel is all about. 'Rocket Warrior', transform into your Invincible Mode. Attack the player."
"Trap Card activate." Rishid countered. "'Eye of Ujat'. Due to the effect of this Trap Card, the Monster who sees the 'Wadjet Eye' shall be under the control of the player for one full turn. 'Rocket Warrior', attack 'Alligator's Sword'."
"I have a feeling you'd do that." Jonouchi retorted. "Magic Card activate: 'Fairy Box'."
His Monster is hiding in that strange box on the field. Rishid blinked when 'Alligator's Sword' hid itself inside the whack-a-mole box.
"And now 'Rocket Warrior' loses its attack target." Jonouchi added.
"Over there." Rishid spotted 'Alligator's Sword's head popped out from a hole. "'Rocket Warrior'. Did I hit it?" he wondered when 'Rocket Warrior' shot towards the hole.
"Too bad." Jonouchi laughed, both Monsters escaped unharmed. "My Monster is unscathed. Plus, I discovered the weak point of your Trap Tactic. Your deck's mostly Magic and Trap Cards. In other words, you don't have a single Monster. So no matter what Traps you have, if I can get rid of them, since you have no Monsters to guard you, beating you would be a piece of cake."
"Jonouchi, are you sure about that?" Rishid challenged. "You have fallen deep into my Trap Hell. Just like you said, my deck is made up mostly of Magic and Trap Cards. But what if a Trap Card exists that can take the place of a Monster Card? If that was true, then my deck would be unbeatable with none of the weaknesses you speak of. Allow me to show you. This is the Card that shall deliver onto you God's punishment. You have already activated the Trap Card this turn. The Trap Monster Card: 'Embodiment of Apophis'. This Card is a Trap Card activated when the opponent attacks. And its Effect Summons the Monster servant of the Gods, 'Embodiment of Apophis'. I can Summon three Monsters this turn." he activated the other two 'Embodiment of Apophis' cards he had face-down. "Come forth, 'Apophis'. Jonouchi, like a rat in a trap, you set foot in my trapdoor into Hell. Now, prepare yourself to fall into the very depths."
