Chapter 89: Inherited Deck - Yuugi vs. Noah
"Everyone, back off now!" Marik warned, both Noah and Yami Yuugi had risen into the air on their slabs of earth.
In the sky...
"I'll be creating a new deck to match your deck type." Noah slotted his new deck into the duel disc.
On the ground...
"After 'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane' appeared, the 'Shinato's Ark' effect disappeared." Jonouchi pointed out. "So all the Cards used before have been returned to the graveyard. But even with the Ark's effect gone, Yuugi still has no Monsters on the field and no Cards in his hand."
"And Noah's Deck Master has 3300 Attack Points." Otogi added.
In the sky...
"Now then, Yuugi." Noah voiced. "It's your turn. I'll let you change your Deck Master if you like."
"That's not necessary." Yami Yuugi snapped. "I Summon 'Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts', Defense Mode."
"Just as expected, your luck is impressive." Noah noted. "Or you could call it 'delaying the inevitable'. But regardless of whether you called a Monster Card out, if I get a Monster now, this duel is done. My turn."
"Too bad for you." Yami Yuugi snorted. "Seems you're going to have to wait a while before finishing me off."
"Still, my absolute advantage over you hasn't changed a bit." Noah reminded. "I, 'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane', will attack you."
"This can't be." Yami Yuugi was shocked to see 'Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts' was destroyed. "My Monster should have been in Defense Mode. Why was my Life... was it..."
"That's correct." Noah confirmed. "'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane's Special Ability just activated. When 'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane' destroys one of the player's Defense Mode Monsters, their Life Points halve as a result. And thanks to 'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane's Deck Master ability, the damage the enemy received gets added to my Life Points. Yuugi, I can't comprehend your suffering. Why would you take on such a reckless duel? And you and Seto not enemies?"
"You're right." Yami Yuugi replied. "Kaiba and I are rivals. We just may be enemies bound to fight by a fate driven for thousands of years. But we can't let that hurt what's even more important than that. Ti's the bonds between duelists."
"Bonds?" Noah scoffed. "What nonsense. What a ridiculous answer."
"You used Mokuba, you chose to use cheap methods while Kaiba chose to fight you fairly." Yami Yuugi reminded. "As long as they protect their pride, all duelists share a strong bond with each other. I'll take those bonds and I'll beat you with them. My turn. I'll place a Monster in face-down Defense Mode. My turn is over."
"You pulled another Monster Card?" Noah frowned. "But I wonder how long you can survive this duel relying on luck alone? My turn. I pity you, Yuugi. It looks like this turn will be your last. I think it's past time I showed you what my deck is. I Summon 'Yata-Garasu' on the field in Attack Mode. I start things off by attacking with 'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane'. That elf..." he gaped when the face-down 'Obnoxious Celtic Guardian' parried off the attack.
"'Obnoxious Celtic Guardian' can't be destroyed by a Monster holding 1900 or higher, Noah." Yami Yuugi supplied.
"In that case, I activate the Magic Card, 'Spring of Rebirth', from my hand." Noah continued. "'Spring of Rebirth' increases my Life by 500 points every time a Monster returns to the field to a player's hand. Return 'Yata-Garasu'. And 'Spring of Rebirth' activates this very moment. My Life rises by 500 points."
"I get it, 'Yata-Garasu'." Yami Yuugi realized. "That Card is part of the Spirit Series I've been hearing rumors about."
"Right you are." Noah grinned. "The CEO of Industrial Illusions, Pegasus, once created a legendary series after getting inspiration from a trip to the Orient. One of the more distinguishable features of the Spirit Monsters is an Effect they all share. Spirit Monsters are unable to be Special Summoned and they are returned to your hand at the End Phase of the turn they are Summoned."
On the ground...
"In other words, 'Spring of Rebirth' is also part of the Spirit Series." Ami reasoned. "Even without the 'Shinato's Ark's Life Restoration, Noah's Life Points can still be increased due to the Spirit Monsters."
In the sky...
"And with that, my turn comes to an end." Noah ended his turn.
"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "I place a Monster in Defense Mode. And I end my turn."
"My turn." Noah took his turn. "I will Summon a Spirit Monster known as 'Asura Priest'. 'Asura', attack 'Obnoxious Celtic Guardian'. 'Obnoxious Celtic Guardian's Special Ability only activates when up against Monsters with 1900 Attack Points or greater. So the effect can't be activated against 'Asura', who holds only 1700 Attack Points. And I also activate 'Asura's Special Ability. 'Asura's Special Ability allows him to attack every single Monster on your side of the field every turn it attacks. And with all your Wall Monsters gone, you'll be defenseless. This is all I need in order to defeat you. Maybe you'll learn your place once you realize I've beaten you."
"You fell for it, Noah." Yami Yuugi snorted. "The Card you just attacked was a Card Kaiba left behind. It's 'Cyber Jar'. 'Cyber Jar' is a Card that destroys all Monsters on the field: all Monsters on the field, and Noah, that includes you, as well, as you've merged with your Deck Master and you're now in the field."
"I activate my Deck Master's Final Ability." Noah shouted. "Reincarnation of Soul." he split himself from 'Shinato, King of a Higher Plane' before he was taken in by 'Cyber Jar'.
"Does this mean that you were unaffected by 'Cyber Jar's effect?" Yami Yuugi frowned.
"It means I was careless, Yuugi." Noah corrected. "I can't believe I had to use my Deck Master's Final Ability against you. 'Reincarnation of Soul' is activated the moment the Deck Master is targeted for destruction on the field. It's an ability that negates that Card effect and returns the Deck Master to his original position on the field. With the cost of me not being to call 'Shinato, King of the Higher Plane' to the field again."
"Noah, 'Cyber Jar's effect isn't through yet." Yami Yuugi reminded. "Both players draw five Cards from their respective decks. You then Special Summon any low-level Monster cards among them. I Special Summon 'Sangan' and 'Gamma The Magnet Warrior' in Defense Mode. Go on, Noah. Summon your Monster Cards already. You can't, isn't that right? Part of the requirement for using a Spirit Monster is that it can't be Special Summoned. My turn. I sacrifice Sangan' and 'Gamma The Magnet Warrior'. This automatically activates 'Sangan's Special Effect. I can add any Monster Card with 1500 Attack Points or less from my deck to my hand. I add 'Big Shield Gardna' to my hand. And the Monster I Summon to the field is... come forth, 'Dark Magician'. Noah, your field is empty. 'Dark Magician', direct attack the player. What's the matter, Noah? This match is just getting started."
"Yuugi, how dare you humiliate me like this." Noah sneered.
"Humiliate?" Yami Yuugi echoed. "After the humiliation you and Gozaburo put Kaiba and Mokuba through, you have no room for mouthing off."
"This is the world I created." Noah snapped. "Regardless of what you ants think, it's completely unforgivable to harm me, the creator."
"I've never heard of creator that uses people as stepping stones." Yami Yuugi fired back. "Noah, everyone has a home for their soul to return to. And that steel sun is not the home you're meant to return to. Noah, I'm going to release your soul through this duel."
"Silence, Yuugi." Noah barked. "I'm the one who's going to eliminate you. My turn. I activate a Magic Card: 'Next World'. This Magic Card reflects the image of one chosen Monster on the field on the Rug of Hell and uses that spiritual energy to Normal Summon a Spirit Monster with the same level from my hand. And the Card I choose to Summon is the Spirit Monster 'Yamata Dragon'." he took out 'Dark Magician'. "And my Deck Master's ability activates. Return, 'Yamata Dragon'. Because a Monster just returned to my hand, 'Spring of Rebirth' activates. My Life goes up an additional 500 points. Yuugi, you've got a mere 100 Life Points remaining. What can you do with that?"
"As long as I still have a small 1% chance of victory, I'll keep on believing in this deck." Yami Yuugi declared. "My turn. I activate the Magic Card: 'Swords of Revealing Light' from my hand. I'll also Summon 'Kuriboh'. 'Kuriboh, direct attack Noah."
"Did something touch me just now?" Noah scoffed, smacking 'Kuriboh' away. "What an utterly pitiful attempt of an attack. Stand there, helplessly prodding your head for a way to attack me. But I hereby make a prophecy: the moment 'Swords of Revealing Light' wear off, you will be killed in an instant. There hasn't been a single prophecy I've stated that hasn't come true in this duel. My turn. I place a face-down Monster in Defense Mode. I end my turn."
"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "'Big Shield Gardna' in Defense Mode. And I pull 'Kuriboh' in Defense Mode as well. I end my turn."
"My turn." Noah took his turn. "I Summon a Monster face-down in Defense Mode. I'll then set a Card face-down. I end my turn."
"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "I'll set one Card face-down and end my turn."
"To think you only got a couple of Cards out, despite the situation." Noah noted. "We only have one turn before my prediction becomes a reality. I suggest you mentally prepare yourself. I don't like that look on your face." he snarled at the determined expression Ami had trained on Yami Yuugi's back. With a snap of his fingers, he blasted Ami with an energy attack. "What..." he gaped when the blue-haired genius remained unharmed, the attack was nullified when Maat manifested. "What... who are you...?"
"Goddess Maat..." Yami Yuugi breathed.
"A Goddess, you say..." Noah was taken aback. "I didn't expect this... that's impossible... Gods and Goddesses... they're all myths, mere fictional stories!"
"You're pitiful." Yami Yuugi snorted. "Your spirit hasn't matured at all since the time of your accident. Ami is right; you're still as childish as ever. Noah, burn this image deep in your mind."
"Then allow me to send that fake Goddess to the pits of hell." Noah snarled. "My turn. Trap Card activate. 'Pyro Clock of Destiny'. 'Pyro Clock of Destiny' is a Trap Card that pushes the turn count of our duel ahead by one." he removed 'Swords of Revealing Light'. "I place a Monster in Attack Mode. Come forth, 'Otohime'." I'll then activate 'Otohime's Special Effect. When 'Otohime' is Summoned, I can change the Battle Position of any Monster on the field. And the one to feel that effect will be you, 'Kuriboh'. I'll then sacrifice 'Otohime' and my face-down Monster... come forth, 'Yamata Dragon'. With this, our duel has been decided. Attack, 'Yamata Dragon'."
