After that day things pretty much went back to normal. Moxxie would go to school and get viciously bullied but no one came to his rescue. Mildred still attended school but unfortunately, the only shared class they had was History of war. This made beating Moxxie in between the other classes easy. He did notice that on the off chance Mildred did appear no one approached him. Given what happened to Bruno Moxxie could understand why. That didn't stop some cocky imps from approaching her though.

On more than one occasion Moxxie would notice fights going on before and after school that had Mildred as one of the opponents. At first, he went to watch because he was worried about her but soon found out she was strong. Like really strong. And nimble. Not to mention quick. Moxxie was absolutely taken with her fighting abilities. Now he would actively watch and cheer her on in her fights. Soon she was the top fighter in their school but once that happened Moxxie got sad. Not only because he couldn't see her as much but also because he realized she was at the top of the school while he was at the very bottom. No way would she ever interact with him ever again.

On one of these days after school, he decides to stay after and heads for the music room. The nurse's office may have been the safest place but the music room was his favorite place. It was a quiet, slightly dirty place that hardly anyone used but it was just right for him.

Once there we took a deep sigh of relief. Happy he could be himself a little without anyone ridiculing him. In the room was a piano and Moxxie went straight to it. He sat down, adjusted his set, set his music on the stand then readied himself. After a moment of silence, he began to play.

He played one of his favorite songs from his favorite musical. It was about a man who loved a woman he could not be with. He loved the melody he played and he thought of this musical. But during it, he began to think of Mildred as the woman with him being the man. At first, he enjoyed the thought as he played but soon he had to stop playing because he feared that like the man he would not be able to get the girl. Tears ran down his face with sadness but then out of nowhere a voice was heard.

"Wow. That was amazin'." Moxxie looks over to see Mildred.

"Wha-" The sight of her startled him to backing up and accidentally falling off his sit. He got up extremely embarrassed and stuttered. "Oh hi. How…" he had to take a breath from nervousness. "...How long have you been there?"

"Awhile. I heard music playin' and was wonderin' who it was. You play beautifully."

"Oh...uh...thanks." He said blushing.

They both stood in silence for a moment neither knowing what to say. Mildred finally broke the silence.

"Do I know you? You look familiar."

Moxxie was a little hurt that she didn't remember him but he answered. "We met on your first day."

She took a minute but then said in a loud voice. "Oh! You're the weakling I brought to the nurse's office."

Moxxie felt a stab to the heart when she said 'weakling' but he didn't argue. " Yes, that was me." He was extremely upset that was how she remembered him but since they haven't met since he couldn't really complain. At least she remembered him now. Mildred noticed how sad he was and thought about lighting the mood a bit.

"Say what were you playin'?"

Moxxie looked at the piano and gently put his hand on the keys. "Nothing really." He said this with a gloomy expression.

"Come on. It was beautiful. I really want to know." Her eyes were glowing with excitement. Moxxie had never met anyone who was interested in music before.

"Well, it's from my favorite musical. It's about this person who fell for a beautiful lady but wasn't able to be with her despite his love."

"That's so sad. Why couldn't they be together?"

"They were too different. The man didn't believe she would ever love him. The fact she loved someone else didn't help." When Moxxie explained this a pained expression spread across his face. Mildred took notice and slowly put her hand on his. Moxxie was surprised and quickly pulled his hand away. Mildred was startled but she reached for his hand again and gently held it. Moxxie felt the warmth of her hands and a genuine happy smile spread across his face.

After a moment of silence, Mildred whispered, "you ok now?"

Moxxie realized their hands were still intertwined and released it. "Yes!" He shouted. He then gave an awkward cough when he realized that it was too loud. "Yes. Thank you miss Mildred."

She giggled at how formal he was and said. "No need for the 'miss' just call me Millie."

"Oh no." He said, waving his hands in dismissal. "I don't think I can do that."

Millie sighed and said, "at least drop the 'miss'".

He chuckled awkwardly. "Ok."

"Well, I better get home. See ya...uh...what was your name?"

"Moxxie."

"Later Moxxie." She said while waving goodbye and leaving the room.

Moxxie meanwhile was just standing there stunned by what happened. This person just talked to him. Normally. She showed interest in him. Without laughing at him. She was so nice. He then looked at the hand she held and he could still feel the warmth. He held it tight with happiness and giggled. He was so happy to have officially met her.

He then looked at the time and realized he needed to go as well. "Crumbs. I hope mother isn't home yet." He said rushing out of the music room heading straight home.

Unbeknownst to him though, not only was Mildred there but someone else was watching both of them from the shadows. They clenched their hand so tight that blood began to drip. They then silently walked away.
