Chapter 101: Sky Colosseum - Yuugi vs. Kaiba

"So, you've come, Yuugi." Kaiba greeted his opponent. "Your normal annoying peanut gallery isn't with you this time, I see." he noted, the platform rising. "Remember, Jonouchi was fighting Marik and he fought that duel to the bitter end, even forcing him to pull out God. As a duelist, he is truly worthy. There is no answer for the fallen, only shame and despair. There is only one true victor: the one who piles up the corpses of the defeated will be able to grasp the glory shining in Heaven. He obtains everything. The one who was chosen by the three God Cards. Yuugi, I will defeat you and gain the title of 'Duel King'."

On the sidelines...

"I wonder if you can, Kaiba." Marik cut in from the sidelines.

"Marik, Mizuno." Kaiba turned to the teenage couple.

On the Sky Colosseum...

"And now, the second match of the semi-finals: the duel between Kaiba Seto and Muto Yuugi will now begin." Isono declared.

"For a battle to determine the ultimate duelist, this arena is far from adequate." Kaiba remarked. "Therefore, I have prepared a battle stage worthy of our fated battle. Solid Vision System, activate." he changed the surroundings into a roman Colosseum. "The battle for the title 'Duel King' will be held on the stage of the Sky Colosseum. Yuugi, after countless conflicts, we will fight the decisive battle in the name of fate. Just like the Ancient Roman gladiators who fought with their lives for pride and freedom."

On the sidelines...

"He does realize that most of those gladiators were slaves, right?" Ami pointed out.

On the Sky Colosseum...

"My turn." Yami Yuugi took the first turn. "My Card is 'Queen's Knight' in Defense Mode. I also set a reverse Card. Turn over."

"My turn." Kaiba took the next turn. "I Summon 'X-Head Cannon' in Attack Mode. I then activate a Magic Card, 'Spell Sanctuary'. This Card forces both players to add one Magic Card from their deck to their hand. In addition, this Continuous Magic Card allows us to use any Magic Card during our opponent's turn. So, any any Card you wish. I place a reverse Card face-down. Turn over."

"My turn." Yami Yuugi drew a Card. "I'll Summon another Monster. 'Alpha the Magnet Warrior' in Defense Mode. And I'll also set a reverse Card. Turn end."

"My turn." Kaiba took his turn. "I'll activate a Magic Card from my hand on this turn. 'Soul Exchange'. 'Soul Exchange' makes it so the Monsters on your field become my servants. So I choose to sacrifice them. I'll then sacrifice them along with 'X-Head Cannon' I control, totaling three tributes."

"You won't do that easily, Kaiba." Yami Yuugi countered. "Reverse Card open. 'Change of Heart'. Thanks to the 'Spell Sanctuary' you played, I'm also permitted to use it's Continuous Effect that allows me to play Magic Cards during my opponent's turn. Now, 'X-Head Cannon' becomes my servant for one turn. Kaiba, I won't let you Summon God."

"So you saw through me?" Kaiba snorted. "I would say that's expected of you, but you were naive, Yuugi. Reverse Card, open. 'Enemy Controller'. By entering the right command, this Card allows me to control one of the Monsters on your field. I pay 1000 of my Life. Left, right, A, B. Using this command, I can once again control 'X-Head Cannon' as my third sacrifice. Now I have three sacrifices. Come forth, Obelisk!"

"No, you don't." Yami Yuugi played his Card. "'Lightforce Sword'. My 'Lightforce Sword' will keep your God Card out of commission for three turns. It will stay sealed away on the field. Don't get too hasty. The game's barely got started, Kaiba."

"Seems you managed to escape from an instant kill." Kaiba was impressed. "But you cannot escape your destiny of defeat."

"Since the Summoning of Obelisk was nullified, the three tribute Monsters remain on the field." Yami Yuugi started. "And 'Soul Exchange's effect ends."

"My turn is over." Kaiba declared.

"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "I'll set one reverse Card. I'll keep the Monsters on my field in Defense Mode and end my turn."

"If you keep running like that, Yuugi, your three turns will pass by in an instant." Kaiba mocked. "My turn. My next Card is 'Y-Dragon Head'. I Summon it in Attack Mode."

On the sidelines...

"This pattern looks very familiar..." Ami muttered.

On the Sky Colosseum...

"Could they be Magnet Monsters with the ability to combine?" Yami Yuugi realized.

"Correct you are." Kaiba confirmed. "When any two of X, Y and Z are Summoned, their Combination Ability activates. Now, join together: 'X-Head Cannon'. Just one more part, if I play part 'Z', they will activate their Ultimate Fusion. Attack him, 'X-Head Cannon'." the combined Monster took out 'Alpha The Magnet Warrior'. "Does it scare you that my sealed God Card will be free in just three turns, Yuugi?" he taunted. "But what if I told you I didn't have to wait? The Gods always end up in the hands of the ultimate duelist. I activate this Magic Card: 'Lullaby of Obedience'. This Magic Card allows me to control an Eight-Star Monster or higher residing in your deck, as long as you have the Card I name. The name of God: 'Slifer the Sky Dragon'. Now, take the God Card from your deck and give him to me. It was hidden deep in your deck, wasn't it?" he snatched the Card. "Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you were going to draw God during this duel."

On the sidelines...

"Kaiba's going to eat his words." Marik predicted. "I just know it."

On the Sky Colosseum...

"Do you understand now, Yuugi?" Kaiba returned to his spot. "The Gods only obey me."

"We'll see about that." Yami Yuugi snorted. "You must have been thinking the same thing I was. The moment Obelisk is freed from his seal, I was planning on using this reverse Card. Reverse Card, open. 'Exchange'."

"The Hand Exchange Magic Card?" Kaiba gaped.

"Kaiba, time for you to return Slifer's Card to me." Yami Yuugi demanded. "You choose one as well." he showed Kaiba his hand, reclaiming 'Slifer the Sky Dragon'. "Thank you, Kaiba." he voiced, Kaiba taking 'Life Shaver'. "God is in my hands."
