Chapter 104: The Inherited Duel of Destiny

"The two Gods have the same attack." Yami Yuugi gaped.

On the sidelines...

"The Millennium Rod..." Marik pulled out the glowing Millennium Rod that was reacting to the clash. "What in the world... the Millennium Rod is glowing once again."

On the Sky Colosseum...

Similarly, Yami Yuugi's Millennium Puzzle also reacted, sending both Yami Yuugi and Kaiba into a shared vision in Ancient Egypt: first the aftermath of the battle again Zorc Necrophades, then the fated battle that was etched on the stone tablet was fleshed out.

On the sidelines...

"What the hell happened?" Marik demanded, both duelists were brought back to reality.

"The Gods are gone..." Mokuba blinked.

"The Millennium Rod somehow awakened their memories." Marik looked at the rod in his hand. "But what in the world did they see?"

On the Sky Colosseum...

"Yuugi, don't tell me you saw the same vision I did." Kaiba demanded.

"Kaiba, I finally understand." Yami Yuugi nodded. "This battle is a fated duel we've been fighting for the past 3000 years. Battle City is a test to become a true duelist as well as a battle to regain my memory. I'm certain now, Kaiba. My battle with you will open the first door to my memories."

"I couldn't care less about some bizarre trick caused by the two Gods colliding." Kaiba snorted. "But whether that was reality or a mere illusion, it doesn't faze me. I will defeat you here and now and the only future I have is to obtain the title 'Duel King'. We no longer need the Gods in this fight. Even though my God is gone, I haven't declared the end of my turn yet. I set a reverse Card and end my turn."

"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "I'm going to Summon 'Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts' on this turn.

"And now I activate my reverse Trap." Kaiba countered. "'Cloning'. This Trap clones the Monster you have on the field and places its copy on my field."

"I'll place another Card face-down." Yami Yuugi continued. "Turn end."

"What's wrong with you, Yuugi?" Kaiba mocked. "Aren't you being a little too cautious? But that hesitation of yours will only lead you to a future of destruction. Next turn, I'm going to sacrifice the clone of your Monster to Summon a new servant. My turn. Yuugi, let me tell you something. The Blue-Eyes us already resting in my hand. You may think I'm not able to Summon it this turn, but this Card will change all perception you had of that. I activate the Magic Card, 'Cost Down', form my hand. 'Cost Down' is a Magic Card that lowers the level of a Monster Card by two Stars for one turn. I offer the Clone Monster as a tribute. Come forth, 'Blue-Eyes White Dragon'. Yuugi, the ancient illusions are over. This is the reality of your defeat. Blue-eyes, attack." he took out 'Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts'. "My turn ends here."

"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "Kaiba, you saw it, too. The curving of a duelist's battle made 3000 years ago. Whether they were a Pharaoh or a Priest, it doesn't matter who they were. What was curved there was their spirit as duelists. And that spirit has been passed onto us. I'm going to prove to you that this wasn't an illusion. Magic Card, 'Monster Reborn'. Awaken, the soul of the magician sleeping in the graveyard; come out, 'Dark Magician'. A battle from my memories was recorded on that ancient palette. And if this duel is a piece of the puzzle of memories, Kaiba, I must defeat you, in order to remember what I've forgotten. I set another reverse Card. Turn end."

"My turn." Kaiba took his turn. "I set one reverse Card and I activate a Magic Card from my hand, 'Card of Demise'. I'm able to draw until I hold five Cards in my hand, provided I discard my entire hand five turns later. I've analyzed all of your strategies through the Battle City tournament and long before it. I know exactly what you're going to do. I can see through your deck as if it was made of glass. And this turn, I'm going to Summon this Monster. Show yourself, 'Lord of Dragons'."

"My turn." Yami Yuugi took his turn. "I'll Summon 'Beta The Magnet Warrior' in Defense Mode. I attack 'Lord of Dragons' with 'Dark Magician'."

"You fell for it." Kaiba smirked. "Trap Card, activate. 'Magical Trick Mirror'. 'Magical Trick Mirror' is a Card that lets me activate a Magic Card from my opponent's graveyard. Using that effect, I'll activate this Magic Card lying in your graveyard. And the Monster I choose to revive," he pulled out the 'Monster Reborn'. "Is him." he resurrected Obelisk. "Gods can only be raised for one turn and he can't attack. But despite that effect, he will act as my impenetrable shield, acting as the perfect defense for my servants. The attack is bounced back and is dealt with to the player a damage."
