Chapter 109: Devil's Sanctuary Activates!

"Marik, you haven't evaded all of Slifer's attacks yet, you know." Yami Yuugi reminded. "Go forth, Slifer's Special Ability activates. What?" he was taken back when Ra deflected the energy shots.

"Did you think Slifer's lightning bolt can penetrate Ra's fire armor?" Marik tsked. "I do believe it's my turn, yes?" he started chanting the words to activate Ra's third ability. "To activate the Special Power of God Phoenix costs me 1000 Life Points. Destroy Slifer, God Phoenix." he ordered. "I now return Ra to the graveyard. According to the text of the Trap Card I used this turn, 'Dark Spell Regeneration', the 'Monster Reborn' Card will return to your graveyard at the end of your turn. But if I do this... reverse Trap, activate. 'Zombie's Jewel'. 'Zombie's Jewel' activates when a Magic Card is placed in my opponent's graveyard. It lets me put that Card in my hand. In other words, 'Monster Reborn' will return to my hand once again. However, the fine print on Zombie's Jewel' also allows you to draw a Card."

"I set a reverse Card and end my turn." Yami Yuugi drew his Card and set it without even looking.

"Muto Yuugi, reversing a Card without confirming it is an illegal act." Isono paused the duel. "If that Card is a Monster, according to the rules..."

"Isono, let it continue." Kaiba cut the proctor off.

"Marik, it's your turn." Yami Yuugi stated.

"My turn." Marik took his turn. "'Monster Reborn' activate. Revive, almighty Sun God. 'Winged Dragon of Ra'. Behold one of Ra's Hidden Abilities: allow me to demonstrate it to you. Be sure to burn this image into your memory." he let Ra's flames engulf him. "This is Ra's final Hidden Ability: the player fuses with God. The play himself takes all but one Life Point and all those points are transferred to Ra's attack. And also, by sacrificing the Monsters on my field, I can absorb their Attack Points. Increasing Ra's Attack Power as a result. This is known as 'One Turn Kill'. Ra, attack."

"Reverse Card, open." Yami Yuugi countered. "'Fiend's Sanctuary'. Instant Quick Play Magic, activate. 'Metal Fiend Token'." he Summoned a 'Metal Fiend Token' onto his field. "Metal Fiend becomes a substitute for the opposing player. And if it's destroyed in battle, the 'Metal Fiend Token' Attack Points are equivalent to the opponent's Life Points and are deducted accordingly. In other words, if I use 'Metal Fiend Token' as a wall against your attacks, Marik, it becomes you. It's Attack Points are the same as the opponent's Life. So as of now, Metal Fiend has one Attack Point. The moment Ra attacks Metal Fiend, you will lose all of your Life Points and the game. Marik, when the blow reflects back on you, you lose."

"That was a close call." Marik admitted. "The moment Ra attacked Metal Fiend, I activated a Magic Card: 'De-Fusion'. I deactivated 'Polymerization' using the 'De-Fusion' Card I got from you. Return to the graveyard, Ra. I'll place 'Monster Reborn' in the graveyard as well. In addition, I set a reverse Card. Turn end."

"It's my turn." Yami Yuugi played his turn. I'll pay 1000 points for the maintenance cost of 'Metal Fiend Token'. My reverse Card, open. 'Multiply'. This Card multiplies all Monsters on the field with 500 Attack Points or less. I sacrifice the three 'Metal Fiend Tokens'. Come forth, God of Destruction: Obelisk. 'Obelisk the Tormentor', attack."
