Chapter 116: Nameless Dragon, Timaeus

"Yuugi," Professor Hopkins started. "No, Nameless Pharaoh. When I looked at this palette, I confirmed my theory. I believe you are the only one who can solve the current crisis and save mankind from their coming downfall of destruction."

"What do you mean by that, Professor?" Yuugi wondered.

"I've been recently studying the origin of Duel Monsters." Professor Hopkins explained. "There's much to tell from what I've found in the Ancient Egyptian tablets. High officials use spells to seal wicked spirits within stone tablets. I've come to understand these high officials called the spirits from the stone tablets in order to protect themselves. These wicked spirits grew stronger until they eventually emerged from the stone tablets, and evil power was created as a result. Because of this, an unbelievably tremendous power is born that threatened to destroy the world. The nameless Pharaoh was the one who brought this evil power under control."

"But that was a long time ago, wasn't it?" Yuugi reminded. "How is it related to what's going on right now?"

"I recently joined a research team while in America and may have discovered a lost civilization." Professor Hopkins replied. "I myself closely examined the carvings resting there, but what I found there was far beyond what I expected. Take a look at these." he showed Yuugi the photos he had taken.

"This is..." Ami's eyes widened.

"Duel Monsters." Yuugi recognized the pictorial illustrations.

"These engraved markings we found suggested that Duel Monsters existed long before Ancient Egypt." Professor Hopkins theorized. 10,000 years ago, to be exact."

"If that's really true, your discovery could completely rewrite history." Sugoroku realized.

"This stone tablet is quite a find." Professor Hopkins agreed.

"This is..." Yuugi flipped through the photo stack and saw the second photograph depicting falling stones and a giant eye. "The Monsters appear to be attacking."

"Those engravings depict the part of my theory that suggests the Monsters tried to destroy the world." Professor Hopkins explained.

"So that means the Monsters we saw recently are also trying to destroy the world?" Yuugi gasped. "Is this what Haga and Ryuzaki were talking about?"

"10,000 years ago, as shown on these palettes, 3000 years ago in Egypt, and the current situation just now." Professor Hopkins remarked. "Is it all just a coincidence? Or... "

"Just wait a minute." Honda piped in. "Duel Monsters is just a game created by Pegasus, isn't it? Someone must be playing a trick with the Monsters using the Duel Disks."

"But Kaiba said his Solid Vision System wasn't the cause." Anzu reminded.

"Anzu, you aren't going to try and tell me Monsters are real, are you?" Honda was skeptical.

"Monsters are real." Professor Hopkins insisted. "They are depicted within ancient drawings. The many Gods, rituals, magic and spells are examples of human desires to awaken the Monsters from a different world. They are trying to use this power for the sole purpose of proving their existence, or so I believe."

"I believe you, Professor Hopkins." Jonouchi spoke. "That battle I fought with Marik in Battle City and the God Cards. After being attacked by Ra, I know. That wasn't just Solid Vision. And others besides the chosen ones were able to use the God Cards. There might be a world that we're unaware of."

"The Duel Monsters' world?" Yuugi blinked.

"Now that you mention it, there's many theories relating to this." Rebecca stated. "Theses stating there may be other worlds other than our own. Time, space, different dimensions, entirely different worlds. Some think there's even parallel universes."

"Most likely, what happened back in Ancient Egypt as well as now, has something to do with the Duel Monsters that almost destroyed the world." Professor Hopkins added. "However, no one knows for sure. That's something only the Nameless Pharaoh can tell us. Why have you appeared in our era? What is the meaning of your rebirth?"

"Now that you mention it, those 'Musketeers of Doma' said something like that." Yuugi recalled.

"Oh yeah." Ami dug into her breast pocket. "There's something I need you to look at, Professor." she handed the Orichalcos Stone to Professor Hopkins.

"Ami, what is this?" Professor Hopkins started.

"The man who attacked us last night had this around his neck." Ami explained.

"May I study this for a bit?" Professor Hopkins requested.

"Please do." Ami insisted. "I have a feeling this stone has the ability to amplify the darkness within a person's heart."

"I'm heading back to America in order to further investigate these ancient ruins." Professor Hopkins commented. "If I find something out, I'll contact you."

That night...

Can't sleep? Yami Yuugi appeared on his partner's bed.

"Other self." Yuugi sat up, "Yeah, I have a lot on my mind."

"Me too, aibou." Yami Yuugi admitted. "My lost memory and the events occurring right now... is there something connecting them?"

In the 'The Great Leviathan' Temple...

"As I thought, the nameless Pharaoh's power cannot be underestimated." Dartz noted.

"I am very sorry." Rafael apologized. "However, the God Cards are right here." he presented Dartz the gathered God Cards.

"I can feel it." Dartz claimed the three God Cards. "There's an enormous power within these Cards. This power must not be wasted on something as trivial as the nameless Pharaoh's lost memories. These shall act as the keys required to open the Forbidden Gate." he placed the Cards into each of the three stone dragons' mouths. "When these Cards are placed as offerings, the sealed gate will open and our God will be revived once again. Our supreme God, we grant upon you the power of the three Gods. And accepting this powerful offering, grant us our blessing and open this door. With this, the Forbidden Gate has been opened." he declared, the combined energy from the Cards creating an aurora curtain.

Meanwhile...

"Aibou..." Yami Yuugi blinked, seeing Yuugi in their shared Soul Room.

"This voice is..." Yuugi heard the recurring voice of someone calling out for help.

"This way." Yami Yuugi led the way. "'Kuriboh'." he then spotted the furry Monster bouncing on a staircase.

Said puffball then bounded off, wanting its two Masters to follow.

The pair eventually went through the door that led them to the Duel Monsters Spirit World. They were then transported to a castle where the frozen statues of the three Legendary Dragons stood.

"Master." 'Dark Magician Girl' appeared before her two owners. "You finally came. Right now, both our world and your world, Master's, is on the verge of being destroyed. Our world and your world coincide with one another through different dimensions. Our world was created by your world's Thought Energy. Therefore, our world depends upon your world. Both worlds depend upon each other. But something is causing the balance between both worlds to collapse. The Dark Sun has taken over our world. All of our companions are being devoured. All that's left are..." the battered Fairy-type Monsters gathered, weary from their fight against the Great Leviathan.

"Is there a way to save our world and your world?" Yuugi asked.

"These are the guardians of the Duel Monsters World, the Legendary Dragons." 'Dark Magician Girl' floated up to the frozen statues. "They exhausted all of their power in their last battle and they're now sleeping here. When did they get here? No one here even remembers their names. All that is left behind of these dragons is a prophecy: when our world and our Master's world is on the verge of collapse, only the True Duelists will awaken us Dragons. I believe you can cure these dragons, Master."

"Aibou." Yami Yuugi started.

"Yeah." Yuugi nodded and the pair reached for the hilt of the sword that was embedded within the ice. With a forceful tug, they pulled the sword out and breaking the ice on one of the dragons.

"Nameless dragon, we know your name." Yami Yuugi declared. "Your name is Timaeus. The Eye of Timaeus; he has the power to bring out the hidden strength of all other Monsters."

Yuugi suddenly awoke to the blinding aurora in the night sky. "Grandpa." he hurried out of the Kame Game Shop.

"Just what is going on here?" Sugoroku wondered.

"There's no time." Ami pulled on a coat. "Yuugi, let's go."

In the city...

"Yuugi." Jonouchi saw the two cousins.

"What's happening?" Anzu was worried.

"What's that?" Honda exclaimed when a green crystal structure descended from the sky and the materialized Duel Monsters were all being sucked into it.

The crystal spires then shred themselves, revealing the Dark Sun.

"O Nameless Pharaoh," Dartz chanted. "Become the offering for our God's revival."

The Dark Sun shot down a tornado from its eye straight towards Yuugi.

"Not good." Jonouchi gaped.

"Run." Honda shouted and he, Jonouchi and Anzu got out of the tornado's path.

Ami summoned the Safiastra, turning into her Princess form and shielded both Yuugi and herself from the tornado's assault.

"Lend us your powers, Timaeus." Yuugi Summoned the green dragon.

Said dragon fought off the second tornado from the Dark Sun with his fire breath and destroyed the Dark Sun.

"Thank you, Master." 'Dark Magician Girl' appeared after the Dark Sun retreated. "The portal to your world has been closed once again. But the evil power has escaped somewhere in your world. Our companions are also still captured. The Evil God will surely revive. Master, defeat the Evil God. Otherwise, both our worlds will enter a path of doom."
