Ch: 3 Chivalric codes

(Shinso's pov - on route to La Barva's location - 1510)

Conversation between me and Midoriya was light and quick to start as he directed me to our unknown location, from local cafes to world news and politics everything was discussed. Still one question was nagging at me from the depths of my mind and as I cleared my throat I finally gave my curiosity satisfaction. "So Midoriya, how is it that you know where Gentle Criminal and La Brava are? I mean they've been high priority targets for the Commission for a while now and we've never been close to capturing them."

He hummed as if in amusement at that as he continued looking at his phone. "Left at the next light please. And well it's quite boring honestly."

"Still I'm interested, you have no idea how pissed Endeavor was when they broke into U.A, hell he ordered an all hands search for them and we had no clue where they were. So how'd you do it?"

He shrugged a bit red. "I had watched their videos for a while, it gives great insight into how a criminal prepares for a heist and how we might improve our security to prevent such acts."

I looked at him a bit surprised. "I didn't peg you as a Gentle Criminal fan."

He then waved the statement. "As I said, oh turn right at the stop if you would be so kind. Anyway, as a detective being able to enter the mind of a criminal and think like them, is vital. Just thankful they do a live stream every now and then." He then turned and smiled. "Plus always fun to see what they do next." I chuckled a bit at that as he continued. "So where was I?"

"How you tracked down Gentle and Brava."

"Ah right thank you. Well it's quite simple, they broadcast their heists and crimes. I simply collaborated their broadcasts against known towers in the area and isolated their IP address, once that was completed it was a simple matter of making a virus that would send me a ping when the IP was in use."

"So what if they used a different computer or something? Wouldn't the ping only work on the phone they used for their streams?"

He nodded clearly excited. "You're absolutely right, but with the ping I would be able to go to their location in person and follow them to their hideout."

"So you followed them home?"

He was about to speak before stopping and hanging his head. "Sounds creepy when you put it that way."

I laughed a bit. "Only a bit. Still that's impressive, although why haven't you told the police about it?"

He then scratched the back of his head as he looked out. "Left here please. Few reasons, I was maybe…sixteen when I found this out and well let's be honest the police would never believe a quirkless teenager found one of the most famous crime duo in Japan."

"Wait sixteen? How old are you?"

He looked at me and blinked in confusion. "I'm twenty?"

"Well damn, I feel like an underachiever now."

He laughed at that. "I had a lot of time on my hands. Anyway, beyond the fact that the police wouldn't believe me, there isn't much that those two could be arrested for anyway so why bother."

"What do you mean? They're villains that break the law."

"I'd hardly call them villains, petty criminals at best."

"You have to be joking."

"On the contrary, think about what they actually do during their crimes."

"They broke into a bank and took all the money."

"Then immediately left it all on the floor and left without taking a single yen. Breaking and entering, misdemeanor at worst."

"What about breaking into the U.A?"

"Trespassing, and let's both be honest it did show a major security problem the school had at the time." I tried to counter but stopped, thinking about it he had a point. At worse the two were minor criminals engaging in petty crimes and misdemeanors, he then continued. "Besides they go out of their way to make sure no one is around or hurt when they do their 'crimes', little egotistical sure but it's all in good fun I think."

"You think so?"

He then shrugged. "I'm probably biased as a fan though. Stop here, please." Following as requested I looked around and saw that we were parked in front of a large warehouse district, Midoriya quickly leaving the car as I followed suit. We began making our way through the labyrinth of buildings, my eyes constantly scanning the area every single instinct that Aizawa drilled into me screaming to wait until night and stick to the roofs. Have back up on hand, recon the area, I'm not sure why I didn't though. Perhaps it was the fact that the sun was still out or that I had a false sense of security due to the targets being Gentle Criminal and La Brava. Maybe it was the confidence Midoriya had as he led me along.

He looked back at me. "We're almost th-" he stopped as a large forklift flew in front of us and into a warehouse next to us at which point we crouched and went towards the wall to our right and as stealthily as possible made our way forward. When we reached the edge of the wall Midoriya turned and looked back, sticking four fingers up and mouthed the words 'they have her.' Once done he quickly rolled to the wall ahead of us and motioned for me to look down the alley.

My heart froze at the sight, down the alley surrounding the short red head was some of the Commission's most wanted, one held a gun to her head wearing an old military gas mask and a oxygen tank strapped to his back. I watched as he pressed the barrel of the revolver against her skull causing her to cry harder before he spoke, his voice altered and deeper. "You should answer our questions Brava, the boss is on a tight schedule."

La Brava cried a bit at that before speaking. "I-I don't know where the two bugs went I swear! Please I-I real-" she was lifted by the neck as spinner pushed her roughly against the wall making her gasp out as the wind left her lungs.

"Then you're useless aren't you?" At that he extended his knife like claws from his scaled hands. Before the third man reached out and grabbed him. I watched in horror as his muscles grew and expanded with sickening tearing as he flung Spinner against the wall leaving La Brava to fall to the floor before being grabbed again and slammed once more, this time denting the thin metal wall.

"If anyone is killing anyone it's gonna be me!"

Mustard then sighed before speaking. "The boss doesn't want her dead yet, she's still useful." He then turned to her. "Aren't you? After all, I'd hate to have to get rid of you." I watched as she sobbed, reaching for Muscular's abomination of a hand.

I turned and saw that Midoriya had stood and with a face filled with determination I've never seen fixed his sleeves and gloves before turning towards the alley entrance. "Forgive me but I can't let this continue. Authorities can be here within ten minutes, I suggest contacting your friends from earlier." And with that he made his way into the alley, with a final pop of his collar he grabbed a can from the floor and tossed it at Muscular. His cybernetic eye turned and glared at the us followed by the other two. "That's hardly a way to treat a lady."

I stood up and joined him, my scarf at the ready. "No way to treat one at all."

Muscular then gave a manic bloodthirsty grin. "Well boys, it looks like I get to kill something today." And with that he charged.
