Day 4 – Paopu Fruit/Firsts

"Just go talk to her." Xion elbows Roxas.

Roxas scooches away from her instead of doing as ordered. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Ok, yeah, sure." Xion rolls her eyes. "It's only the third time I've caught you staring at her."

When this is said, Roxas keeps his eyes firmly on his drink set before him. Yet his ears are tuned in to her voice. At the sound of her laugh, he looks up once again.

This time, Xion is less sympathetic. She presses her hands against his arm and pushes. She doesn't manage to get him very far, succeeding more in making him lean further down on the picnic table they occupy.

"I swear," she grunts, "if Axel were here, he'd have grabbed you up, carried you over, and dropped you in front of her by now."

"You're being ridiculous," Roxas says with no inflection.

"You're being ridiculous!" Xion snaps back. She stops trying to shove him. It's useless. If only Axel were here. He could force him over.

But it's just Xion and Roxas at the beach today. Little did they know Miss Princess herself Kairi would also be present with her two escorts, Sora and Riku. Roxas has only been crushing on her since forever but won't admit to anything despite his actions saying everything.

Xion knows Kairi. They have friends in common and, therefore, became friends themselves. She knows Kairi isn't dating Sora despite the popular rumors. Xion has told Roxas as much, yet he refuses to make the first move. He's too shy. He needs a shove. He needs to have his first actual conversation with her.

Sadly, Xion doesn't have Axel for backup so it's up to her because it's no fun hanging out with Roxas when he is thoroughly distracted.

So Xion waits. She waits and she plans. Absentmindedly, she stirs her smoothie, watching Kairi as closely as Roxas is until she sees her opportunity.

Casually, she stands and stretches. "You know, I think I'm going to grab the supplies for tonight's beach bonfire."

Roxas raises an eyebrow at her. "Already? Sun doesn't set for at least—"

"Yes I am and I'll call to you if I need help carrying anything so thanks bye!" Xion rushes her words as she rushes towards to the beach's edge where it meets the grass. Where Kairi is heading to.

"Kairi!" Xion calls to her to catch up.

Kairi turns and smiles. "Hi, Xion! How are you doing? I didn't see you here. Where have you been?"

"Tucked away on that bench over there with Roxas," Xion says, catching her breath.

"Roxas is here?" Kairi asks. She looks up and meets his gaze. Roxas jolts then immediately looks down at his drink again. Xion doesn't let Kairi see how far her eyes can roll because honestly Roxas. Get it together. She's got to do everything for him.

"Yes, he's going to help me with setting up for the bonfire. Are you staying for it?" Xion asks.

"I am! I can't wait. It's the last one of the summer." Kairi and Xion make their way towards the stack of bags that have been dropped away from the sand and water, filled with things too delicate to handle either.

"Great! Would you mind helping me carry some things? I brought everything I could possibly need."

"Oh sure!"

"Thanks!" Xion says with a smile a tad too big. She begins unloading her stuff. The marshmallows, the hot dogs, the buns for the hot dogs, the condiments. Once done with food items, she goes on to unpack literally everything from her bag—frisbees, homework, her hairbrush, anything—until both hers and Kairi's arms are full.

"Oh no, would you look at that. We're just two people with too much stuff," Xion sighs.

"Xion, are you sure you need—"

"ROXAS."

The young man being called jerks at the sound of his name.

"Roxas, I need you! Get over here!"

Dutifully, Roxas gets up and walks over, all the while dragging his feet. Once he arrives, Xion throws him her biggest pleading smile.

"Roxas, would you mind helping us carry some of my things?"

"Uh, sure." Roxas reaches to take some of Xion's items but she immediately backs away. Why can't he catch a hint?!

"Oh no, not my stuff. I need to make sure I don't lose any of it. Help Kairi. She has the food." Xion turns to Kairi. "Don't worry, Roxas is super strong. He's been working out. Isn't that right, Roxas? Ready to help anyone at the drop of a hat. Anyway, let's—oh hey!" Xion sprints over, pretending it was perfect timing Selphie walked by.

Xion immediately begins a long conversation with Selphie about how good Riku looks today (she knew it would be a sacrifice to have a conversation about whatever boy Selphie is obsessed with this week, but Xion needs to keep busy by any means necessary). She keeps chatting with Selphie for a long while because when she catches sight of the two she left behind, they're both smiling. And they keep talking. And talking. And talking—to each other! Their first conversation!

And when everyone is sitting around the bonfire that evening and Kairi and Roxas end up sitting next to one another, talking and laughing like old friends, Xion decides to ask Axel how Roxas can make it up to her. And also perhaps brag about her accomplishment.

Ok. I'm sorry. It's not my best work and the ending stinks, but I couldn't find inspiration, and so I spit this out at the last minute because I want to contribute as much as I can. The next one will hopefully be better. I still hope you get some fun out of it. Until tomorrow!
