INT. JILL'S HOUSE – EVENING
Jill enters her house, slinging her backpack on the couch.
JILL: Mom! I'm home!
KATE ROBERTS enters, drink in one hand, cigarette in the other.
KATE: And where have you been?
JILL: School, Mom. You know – that taxpayer place where I learn things. (Beat) Kirby's coming over later. And … Nicholette …
KATE: (tipping the end of her cigarette into an ashtray) Who?
JILL: Exactly.
INT. JILL'S BEDROOM – EVENING
Jill throws herself onto her bed. She looks up at the ceiling, before she swings her legs over the side. She reaches down under her bed, pulling out an old photo album. She opens it wide and starts thumbing through it. It's a scrapbook, put together by herself. Newspaper clippings, old pictures. She passes photos of her mother and Aunt Maureen. She stops when she sees a photo of someone … SIDNEY PRESCOTT. Jill stares down at her cousin's face.
JILL: (whispering) What was it, Sidney? What set you off? Were you like me … ? Was it a desire for fame?
She sees a picture of Sidney – freshman in high school with Tatum. Jill flips to the back of her scrapbook. There's a photo of herself and Jenny together – freshman year of high school. Jill has her arm wrapped around Jenny's shoulder and they looked like the best of friends. Then Jill turns the page – there's a picture of herself last year at a Christmas party – with Trevor. Kissing under the mistletoe. She turns the page. She and Trevor are in a horse-drawn carriage at Christmas. Another photo of them at Disneyland, Trevor wearing the mouse ears to make her laugh. Another one of her snorting milk through her nose in laughter at something Trevor just said. And another black and white one of her just lying under a tree, held by Trevor.
She turns to the next page.
Pictures of Trevor, now with Jenny. Making Jenny laugh. Holding her in the same way he once held Jill. Kissing her. Jill grits her teeth. It's obvious that Trevor and Jenny didn't know these photos were being taken. Jill had been stalking them, photographing them.
Jill flips back to the beginning of the scrapbook. She stares down at an old picture Kate had taken of Sidney and Billy together. Billy was holding Sidney in the same way that Trevor had held her. Jill turns back a page, back to a picture of Sidney standing alone, looking rather sad, staring off into the distance.
JILL: (to the picture of Sidney) I think I understand you now. Tatum took him from you … just as Jenny took Trevor from me. We may not have been related by blood … but you … are me … we are one …
Jill looks up, fire in her eyes, determination on her face to put the next phase of her plan in action. She pulls outs a phone and dials Charlie. He answers.
CHARLIE: Jill?
JILL: Aren't you ready? It's nearly showtime …
CUT TO:
EXT. ROBERTS HOUSE – NIGHT
Kirby's van pulls up in front of the house. Nicholette is sitting next to her, having been picked up by Kirby. Nicholette is actually beginning to come out of her shell a little bit with some coaxing from Kirby.
KIRBY: Shut up, your dad does not!
NICHOLETTE: Oh he absolutely does.
KIRBY: I have never heard of a dad that loves A Very Brady Sequel.
NICHOLETTE: He worships it.
KIRBY: And your mom?
Nicholette hesitates. Kirby realizes that she may have broached an uncomfortable topic.
KIRBY: Hey – I'm sorry. You don't have to talk about it -.
NICHOLETTE: (staring at the dashboard) We thought it was gone. The cancer I mean …
Kirby stares at her.
NICHOLETTE: And then, just when we thought we were in the clear – it came back. That's why I'm here. They sent me to live with Dewey and Gale because … well, they didn't think I should watch my mother die …
KIRBY: Look, I'm not good with talking about feelings and stuff … but I'm glad you're here at any rate. Not because I'm some weird Stab fanatic that wants to smell your hair or something – you're really a cool girl and you could use some friends right now.
Kirby stares up at Jill's house and sighs.
KIRBY: But you should know – you're stepping into a minefield here …
NICHOLETTE: Why's that?
KIRBY: You're attending Woodsboro High. Did you really think there wouldn't be any drama? Look – let me level with you. I know you and Jill are related in a weird seven-degree-from-Kevin-Bacon-kinda-way, but this town's a keg about to blow. And Trevor is just the tip of the iceberg.
NICHOLETTE: What do you mean?
KIRBY: Look – Jill doesn't talk about it all that much. There's a lot more between Jenny and Jill than just Trevor … Two years ago, Jill was going to throw Jenny a surprise birthday party. Jenny picked her up and Jill was giving her directions. Jill was taking selfies and suggested she and Jenny take one in the car. Stupid move, I know. Jenny turned her head for the picture – for one second - there was no one on the road and …
Kirby makes a crashing motion with her hand.
NICHOLETTE: Jenny hit someone?
KIRBY: Not just anyone. Her own brother Steve who happened to be crossing the street at the time.
NICHOLETTE: (horrified) He was killed?
KIRBY: No, thankfully not. Well, I don't know if he should be thankful. Steve was paralyzed. Full body. Consigned to a wheelchair, only able to talk through a keyboard and a computer. It's … not all bad though … his football is out the window, but he's studying computer science and IT from home.
NICHOLETTE: And Jenny blames Jill?
KIRBY: No, that's the odd thing. Jenny always was a better person than Jill. She didn't blame her at all – she blamed herself. Jill – well, Jill doesn't like to talk about it. I imagine the guilt plays a big part. I think that's why she ended her friendship with Jenny. Not because of Trevor – but because Jill feels so damn guilty over what happened and can't look her in the eye …
NICHOLETTE: That's wild …
KIRBY: That's not even the half of it. Olivia over there – started a rumor that Jill did it on purpose. To get back at Jenny for stealing all of her boyfriends. But this was before Trevor mind you. And then Trevor dumped Jill for Jenny and Jill got it into her head that Jenny stole him to get back at her for her brother … like I said, a land mine.
NICHOLETTE: Why would Jill even stay friends with Olivia after all that?
KIRBY: 'Cuz sometimes I think Jill ain't all there. Anyway, just thought you should know what you're getting yourself into. But hey – Jill could use a new friend too. Who knows, you might rub off on her.
EXT. JILL'S HOUSE – NIGHT
The two exit the car. Nicholette stares up at Olivia's house – her bedroom is across from Jill's and she can see Olivia talking to someone on the phone. She turns to follow Kirby towards the house –
BAM! SOMEONE BUMPS RIGHT INTO HER! NICHOLETTE JUMPS!
Craig and Lyle stand there sheepishly.
CRAIG: Sorry – didn't see you there.
NICHOLETTE: (regaining her composure) It's okay … just be more careful.
She looks up and notices a third guy with Craig and Lyle. It's the cute guy who smiled at her earlier. He smiles down at her. Kirby approaches.
KIRBY: Don't you spazzes have some circle-jerk to get to?
CRAIG: For your information, Kirby, we were just about to sneak Teddy here (motioning to the cute guy) into an R-rated movie.
KIRBY: You guys are such underclassmen. Go on – get outta here and stop creeping around Jill.
The cute guy – Teddy – smiles sheepishly at Nicholette before motioning.
TEDDY: C'mon guys.
CRAIG: (following Ted and Lyle) Kirby, when you gonna realize you want me, huh?
KIRBY: When M. Night Shyamalan actually produces a good Last Airbender flick.
Teddy laughs as Lyle follows behind him, Craig bringing up the rear, still talking trash, walking backwards as he talks to Kirby.
CRAIG: Bet you think you're real cool, Kirbz. Now that you're buddy-buddy with Little Miss Loomis!
Kirby picks up a rock and throws it at him.
KIRBY: Would you get outta here?! You're lowering the property values!
Craig sticks his tongue and follows Teddy and Lyle. Kirby rounds on Nicholette.
KIRBY: And as for you – don't think I didn't see you eye-fucking Teddy.
NICHOLETTE: I … I wasn't -.
KIRBY: It's okay, he is cute. He's a film nerd, but not as weird about it as Craig and Lyle. You like him?
NICHOLETTE: Like you said – he's cute …
The two head up towards Jill's house. Down the block, Teddy turns and watches Nicholette enter the house.
CUT TO:
EXT. OLIVIA'S BACKYARD – NIGHT
Charlie is hiding in the bushes behind Olivia's house dressed in his Ghostface robe. He's got Hoss' phone. He circles the house and stares up at Olivia's room. She's getting changed, but also on the phone with Jill.
She's in position.
Charlie slides his Ghostface mask down over his face, ready for tonight's events.
A TWIG SNAPS BEHIND HIM!
Charlie turns, pulling his mask back up over his head. He stares at the woods behind the house. He sees nothing -.
HIS CELL PHONE RINGS! He looks down at the CALLER-ID – JILL. He cocks his head. He turns, staring up into Jill's room. She's on her cell phone talking to Olivia. How can she be calling him at the same time? He puts the phone up to his ear.
CHARLIE: Hello?
GHOSTFACE: I wasn't about to interrupt your big moment, was I? You looked deep in thought.
CHARLIE: You want a showdown? Huh? Is that it? 'Cause here's your moment! I'm right here! Mano y mano. Ghostface vs. Ghostface.
GHOSTFACE: The time will come, but for now how about a rewrite to your little Stab remake?
Charlie glances off into the woods. He sees somebody walking among the trees. He unsheathes his knife and slowly walks towards the trees.
CHARLIE: Yeah? What kinda rewrite? You swoop in, gut Olivia, get all the glory and credit?
GHOSTFACE: Why must you ascribe such mundane motives to me? I could care less about fame and fortune. (Beat) Besides, like I already said – remakes are dull.
Charlie reaches the edge of the woods. He peers into the thicket. Nothing but the chirping of crickets.
CHARLIE: Yeah – then why are you rehashing the tired old formula?
GHOSTFACE: I'm less interested in remakes and more interested in … inspiration. Tell me, Mr. Cinema Club President, have there been any good Stab films lately?
CHARLIE: (stepping into the edges of the woods) No … not since 3. But I -.
GHOSTFACE: The writers of Stab have gotten bored with their series. Writing the same old tired material, same formula, banal phone calls, 'how you wanna die?', stab, slash and then unmask and spill the motive. It's all so tired, so worn, so … predictable.
Charlie is now deeper into the thicket, his knife ready. He's looking all around.
CHARLIE: So what's the point of all this? Why try to compete with me and Jill, huh? How's that gonna help the Stabwriters?
(Beat)
GHOSTFACE: … new material …
A PILE OF LEAVES BURSTS UP FROM BEHIND CHARLIE. He spins around as GHOSTFACE rushes him.
CHARLIE: Shit!
He slides his own mask down over his head, stabbing at the attacker –
- And stops. The "Ghostface" that attacked him is now lying on the ground, its robe flat and mask askew. It's just a puppet. No flesh and blood killer. Charlie draws his mask back over his head and sees a series of riggings attached to the trees which held the puppet aloft. Charlie looks down at his phone which he tossed aside.
CHARLIE: Couldn't even come at me in the flesh … pussy …
A SCREAM CUTS THROUGH THE NIGHT!
Charlie spins … it's Olivia … the other killer is claiming his big moment!
CUT TO:
INT. JILL'S BEDROOM – NIGHT
Jill, Kirby and Nicholette stand and watch in horror from Jill's bedroom window as GHOSTFACE BURSTS OUT OF OLIVIA'S CLOSET ACROSS THE STREET.
INT. OLIVIA'S BEDROOM – NIGHT
Olivia screams as Ghostface slugs his knife into her back. She grabs a lamp, smashing it on his head. She races across the room for the door – the killer slides along her bed, slamming the door shut. He grabs her, smashing her head into wall, flinging her towards the window. She smashes facefirst through it. Ghostface stabs down once, twice, three times into her back, before slugging her back through the window, hurling her onto her bed. He jumps up onto the bed, slicing downward, her intestines flying as blood sprays on the walls.
INT. JILL'S ROOM – NIGHT
Jill books it out of the room. Nicholette races after her – Kirby stops her.
KIRBY: No! (to Jill) It's not safe!
Kirby has her phone out, dialing 9-11.
EXT. OLIVIA'S HOUSE – NIGHT
Jill is booking it out of her house, towards Olivia's – CHARLIE SLAMS INTO HER. She catches her breath, sees him in his street clothes.
JILL: Nice work, for once. The bitch – is dead.
CHARLIE: Jill -.
JILL: But why didn't you call? You were supposed to call before you did it -.
CHARLIE: Jill – it wasn't me!
Jill stops.
CHARLIE: He called me … lured me away!
She shoves him.
JILL: You let him claim another one of our victims?!
CHARLIE: I'm sorry, I -.
Out of the corner of her eye, Jill sees something racing towards them from the woods.
JILL: Charlie!
He turns – GHOSTFACE IS CHARGING THEM HEAD-ON, KNIFE RAISED!
Jill steels herself, feeling all the rage of the world coursing through her. She steps forward, balls her fist and decks Ghostface clean across the face. He falls on his back with a grunt and to her surprise, he starts writhing in pain. He takes his mask off to reveal a bloody face – CRAIG.
CRAIG: Oww you bitch, can't you take a joke? I think you broke my nose!
Charlie grabs Craig and pulls him to his feet.
CHARLIE: Why? Why did you kill Olivia?! Why are you messing with us?
CRAIG: Olivia? Messing with you – I –
Craig looks between Charlie and Jill, both of them looking very serious.
CRAIG: What's going on?
CUT TO:
Craig screams as he is slammed onto the roof of a car by Perkins. Hoss cuffs his wrists behind his back.
CRAIG: It was just a joke! I didn't do anything! Look at the knife, it's rubber -.
Dewey appears behind him.
DEWEY: You have the right to remain silent -.
Craig looks up. He sees Kirby, Nicholette, Jill, Charlie and Kate standing on the front porch. Outside, Mr. and Mrs. Morris are devastated, staring at Craig with all the hatred in the world.
CRAIG: I didn't kill Olivia! Why won't anyone believe me! Ask Lyle! Ask Teddy! I was with them!
DEWEY: Anything you say or do can be held against you in a court of law.
Perkins hoists Craig to his feet.
PERKINS: Hope you enjoy jail. After what you did to Sean and Jess, and now Olivia -.
He tries to stuff Craig into his car. Craig cries out to his friends.
CRAIG: Charlie! Jill! Kirby! You know me! You know I couldn't -.
Perkins stuffs him into the backseat of his squad car. Craig stares at them helplessly, his eyes full of hopelessness and a sense of betrayal that his friends, of all people, wouldn't believe him. The car takes off.
Kate puts her arms around the girls.
KATE: I … I think we could all do with some cocoa.
KIRBY: Or maybe something stronger?
Dewey races up to their door. He hugs Nicholette tightly.
DEWEY: Are you okay? Are you hurt at all?
NICHOLETTE: No, no it was just … Dewey, it was horrible …
DEWEY: I know, I know.
Kate stands in the doorway, unsure of what to do. Dewey looks up at her.
DEWEY: (to Kate) Can she stay here? Spend the night? I'll be in the office all night with this – please?
KATE: (beaming) Of course. She's family. What greater bond is there?
DEWEY: (nodding) Thank you, Kate.
He kisses Nicholette on the forehead. Jill folds her arms, visibly upset that Dewey never showed the slightest concern about her. The sheriff turns and races back down the lawn.
FADE OUT
