EXT. JUNKYARD CENTER – NIGHT
Jill hobbles into the center of the junkyard. She stares up and sees the trio hanging from chains attached to a crane.
JILL: Nicky!
Above, Nicholette stares down.
NICHOLETTE: Jill?
DJ: Oh crap, we're really in trouble.
Jill sees a control panel nearby.
JILL: I'm gonna get you out of there -.
She hobbles to the control panel –
JENNY SPRINGS UP BEHIND HER, KNIFE TO HER THROAT.
JENNY: I don't think so, Jill.
She hurls Jill into the side of a car, stabbing her in the shoulder. Jill cries out.
NICHOLETTE: Jill!
They watch as Jenny yanks the knife out of Jill's shoulder, holding her by the throat.
JENNY: Oh Jillian … you were always right to be concerned about me. I've always been in competition with you. Sports. Academics. Boys. Murder. And as always, I'm one step ahead of you. Face it, Jill – you'll never be the star, you'll always be relegated to a supporting role …
JILL: You killed Trevor and my Mother!
JENNY: Oh, like you weren't planning to yourself! That's right, Jill – another little surprise. My brother Steve – listening in on all your phone calls, recording every conversation between you and Charlie – that's how we knew you were planning your own little reboot. And speaking of Charlie …
Jill looks up – Charlie is now standing at the control panel, his finger dancing over the button that'll send Nicholette, DJ and Billy to certain doom. Jenny grabs Jill by the shirt, throws her forward onto the ground. Jill looks up as Jenny stands over her.
JENNY: So you turned over a new leaf? The deranged mass murderess has a heart after all? Well isn't that just sweet?
She KICKS Jill about the head. Jill cries out.
NICHOLETTE: Jill!
Jill looks up at her – at the one person who listened to Jill's problems. Her eyes are filled with tears. She turns to Charlie.
JILL: Let them go … take me instead …
CHARLIE: Well this is new. What happened to the Jill who was ready to dig a knife into her closest friends?
JILL: She's … she's dead …
CHARLIE: Then you'll be joining her soon, no doubt.
JILL: You're a real piece of shit, Charlie!
Charlie's finger inches closer to the button.
CHARLIE: Easy now. (His face grows stern, but there's a hint of sadness) Is that what I've always been to you … a piece of shit …?
JENNY: That's right, Charlie. She never cared about you -.
JILL: You're wrong! I did once, Charlie!
CHARLIE: Really? And is that why you threw me over for Trevor? (he sees the confusion on her face) I saw the video recording, Jill. You forgot to turn your webcam off. I got a front row seat to you and him rekindling the sparks … I betrayed you? You betrayed me first! (His features soften) And you told me you loved me … and I stupidly believed you …
JILL: I'm sorry …
CHARLIE: (finger dancing over the button) No … not yet …
JILL: I did care about you! We were friends! I'm sorry I led you down this path … I'm sorry I started everything! But you have the choice, Charlie – you can change like I did!
CHARLIE: Go soft, you mean?
JENNY: Don't listen to her – press that button and punish her! Make her watch her new favorite toy Nicholette be turned into sawdust! Make her pay for hurting you!
Charlie's finger inches closer to the button. Above, DJ begins screaming in terror. Billy calls out for help. Nicholette appears sad …
NICHOLETTE: Don't do it, Charlie … please …
JENNY: Press the button, Charlie.
Jill tries to rise – JENNY'S BOOT ON HER THROAT KEEPS HER DOWN.
JENNY: Press it. Make her feel what she made you feel.
JILL: (tears streaming) Charlie … you deserved better.
Charlie falters. Jenny grabs Jill, forcing her to her feet, holding the knife.
JENNY: I think you should press the button Charlie. Here, I've got her a front row seat. Get your revenge.
JILL: You deserved a better friend. I used you, abused you … you never did anything to deserve it.
Charlie's faltering. Jenny can sense it.
JENNY: Press the button, Charlie!
NICHOLETTE: Charlie – you're better than this! Jill may have started you down this path – you don't have to let Jenny lead you down it any further!
Jenny presses the blade up to Jill's neck, drawing blood. Charlie stares at them.
NICHOLETTE: You're not a bad person, Charlie! Think about what they turned you into, what they made you do! You can stop this! You don't have to be what they made you!
Charlie steps away from the controls. A groan escapes his lips.
CHARLIE: … Robbie … Oh God, what have I done?!
He backs away. Jenny snarls.
JENNY: Useless, the lot of you!
She shoves Jill to the ground and storms up to the controls. She STABS Charlie in the gut. Charlie's eyes grow wide. Jenny rolls her eyes.
JENNY: Oh, don't pretend that you didn't know I would betray you.
She STABS Charlie again – his chest heaves. With a grunt, she yanks her knife from his chest and he collapses, bleeding out. Jenny turns, staring at Jill.
JENNY: What's that saying about if you want something done right, you do it yourself?
She PRESSES the button.
Above, DJ, Nicholette and Billy begin screaming for help. They're descending slowly, slowly, the woodchipper getting closer by the second. Nicholette can see right into its spinning gears – she SCREAMS! Jenny watches, a mad gleam in her eye.
Jill RISES. She's bleeding. Her entire body has been taxed to the limit. She limps over, blood spilling out onto the ground. Jenny is fixated on watching the trio about to get turned into ground chuck. She feels a tap on her shoulder –
JILL PUNCHES HER ACROSS THE FACE!
Jenny hits the ground. She grabs for her knife – Jill kicks it out of her hand. Jenny scrabbles to her feet, spinning, reaching behind her waist – A GUN!
Jill stands there, hands raised.
JENNY: Goodbye, Jill. The best Ghostface won.
CHARLIE TACKLES HER, SLAMMING HER INTO THE GROUND! He's bleeding out everywhere, he's very much going to die, but he's going to take Jenny down.
Jill races to the controls. She presses a button – the chains SPEED UP, descending towards the woodchipper even faster.
DJ: Great, she turns good, tries to help us and ends up killing us anyway! Poetic really!
Jenny and Charlie struggle. JENNY bites his hand. He screams. He grabs her throat – her hand with the gun comes up – Charlie grabs it, directing it away from his head. Jenny shoots the gun off into the night. Charlie, with the last of his strength, picks her up and BODY SLAMS her – the gun goes flying, skittering to a stop at the edge of the junkyard's circle.
Jenny lies there, unmoving, face upturned to the skies.
Charlie grunts, rolling over onto his back, holding his wound to his chest, blood pooling around him, the last of his strength exhausted.
CUT TO:
JILL: Crap, crap, what do I press?
She fumbles with the controls.
BILLY: The blue one, the blue one, hit the damn blue button!
Jill slams her fist down onto a blue button. The chain comes to a halt, just short of the woodchipper. Nicholette, Billy and DJ share a collective sigh of relief.
Jill is also bleeding out. She leans over the control panel, blood pouring from her body onto the panel. She looks up into Nicholette's eyes and smiles …
Behind them, Jenny's fingers close around a knife.
DJ: (to Jill) Now get us the hell out of here!
JILL: (nodding) Right -.
Nicholette's mouth opens.
NICHOLETTE: Jill – behind you!
Jill spins to see Jenny right behind her, knife raised, STRIKING DOWNWARD!
BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
Three gunshots, directly into Jenny's chest. Jenny stands there, her face utterly shocked as her shirt blossoms red in three spots.
They all turn –
KIRBY REED IS STANDING THERE, JENNY'S FALLEN GUN NOW IN HER HAND AND SMOKING!
Jenny opens her mouth in utter shock and disbelief. She topples sidewise over the control panel – STRAIGHT INTO THE WOODCHIPPER! There's a sick grinding sound and at the other side of the machine – all that's left of Jenny is spewed out in bloody chips.
Kirby lowers Jenny's gun and races to Jill, slinging her arm around her, keeping her on her feet.
KIRBY: My God, what happened?
JILL: How … how'd you … find us …?
KIRBY: Well, my car's GPS is linked to my phone and Charlie happened to just drive off with it … when I saw it coming here, I knew something was up …
Jill leans her head onto Kirby's shoulder, tears staining Kirby's shirt.
JILL: … thank you …
CUT TO:
Charlie is lying on his back, bleeding out. Jill and Kirby are at his side, holding his hand. Off to the side, DJ, Nicholette and Billy watch.
JILL: I'm so sorry, Charlie … I'm sorry I roped you into this … it was my idea …
CHARLIE: An idea I went along with … I'm sorry too, Jill … I shouldn't have fed it … it's my fault too … and … for what it's worth … I still love you …
He reaches a bloody hand up to her face. She kisses it.
CHARLIE: And Kirby … I'm sorry … If things had been different …
Kirby nods.
KIRBY: I'm sorry too, Charlie. We all make our decisions … I just wish you would've made the right ones … for both our sakes …
Charlie nods, accepting it. His eyes focus in one final time into Jill's. He breathes his last – but this time, he dies with a smile on his face. Jill stands up, wiping her eyes.
KIRBY: What now? Surely you're gonna turn yourself in, Jill?
JILL: (nodding) Yeah … yeah I guess so.
She turns, hobbling over to Billy, DJ and Nicholette.
JILL: I'm sorry for everything I put you guys through. I'll face the music.
Nicholette steps forward, lip trembling. She hugs Jill, not caring that she's covered in blood. Jill rests her face on Nicholette's head, crying into her hair.
JILL: Thank you – for everything. For being the one who listened …
Around them, the skies are lit up with red and blue lights. Sirens fill the air as the cops surround them. We pan up with an overhead shot of the junkyard.
It truly was a fight to the finish.
CUT TO:
Steve sits in his chair, unmoving as cops rifle through his house around him. They make off with boxes of evidence, computers, IP addresses, everything connecting Steve, Craig and Jenny to the murders.
He sits there, his mouth slack, staring off into space as a cop comes up behind him, wheeling him off.
CUT TO:
Mark Kincaid's car pulls up in the junkyard. Paramedics are onsite, tending to the wounded. Gale looks around – makes eye contact with Billy and smiles. Dewey comes around a corner, holding a clipboard – he looks up.
Gale runs over to him, grabs him by the face, and kisses him passionately. She turns, sees DJ. She runs over, pulling him into her chest, planting his face with kisses.
GALE: You have no idea how relieved I am …
DJ: Just promise you won't make a documentary about this.
GALE: Not this one. Besides, I already got my next story – The Creskill Slasher!
CUT TO:
Kirby stands with Nicholette and DJ. She holds an urn containing Charlie's ashes. They overlook a lake. Kirby stares down at the urn.
KIRBY: I'm sorry, Charlie. For what you become. I liked you – the real you. Not the monster that you became, but the real Charlie Walker that existed underneath. I'm just sorry I didn't get to know that Charlie sooner – stop you from becoming a monster.
She opens the urn and allows his ashes to blow away with the wind.
WE CUT TO:
Jill is led away from a courthouse in an orange jumpsuit, her hands in cuffs. The cops lead her down the stairs as dozens of reporters swarm her.
REPORTER: Jill, Jill Roberts – can we get a statement! What do you have to say about your reduced sentence?
REPORTER 2: Jill Roberts – hero and villain! Can we get a statement?
REPORTER 3: Jill, over here!
They all swarm, her face all over the cameras. Nationwide, her face appears in newspapers, tv specials – everything. The Hero Killer they call her.
Jill smiles, relishing the fame she once so desperately craved. She's led into a police car – HOSS is driving.
HOSS: So – you got what you wanted after all? Fame. Recognition. Everything you wanted.
Jill stares down at the ring on her finger – the one that Trevor gave her, that once belonged to his grandmother. Her lip trembles.
JILL: No – not everything.
She takes the ring off, holding it tightly in her fist, bringing it up to her face. She kisses it, before holding it up to her forehead, allowing herself to break for the first time in a long time.
CUT TO:
EXT. CENTRAL PARK – AFTERNOON
It's a beautiful day in New York City. People camp out on blankets, play frizbee, have picnics. One family is enjoying the beautiful day -.
Billy catches a frisbee, tosses it back – his mother DEBBIE LOOMIS catches it, laughing.
DEBBIE: Whoohoo, you see that kids? Granny's still got the moves!
She high-fives Nicholette!
BILLY: Who wants to challenge us?! Gale, Dewey, family versus family?
Dewey and Gale sit down on a blanket. Gale stands up, dragging Dewey to his feet.
GALE: You're on, Loomis! Dewey, do not screw this up!
DEWEY: When have I ever screwed anything up? DJ – you wanna join in?
DJ sits there – his phone beeps. A text from some friends, some game invite. He stares down, before taking his phone and shoving it into his knapsack. He stands up.
DJ: Be right there, Mom!
BILLY: (catching his breath) On second thought – I need a breather. Nicky – you take my position.
Nicholette stands up, kissing him on the cheek.
NICHOLETTE: I'll try not to outdo your score.
She runs off to join the others. Billy sits back down on the blanket – sitting next to him is TATUM. Her hair short now, but the treatments worked. The cancer has, for the most part gone. She's a survivor indeed. She leans her head on Billy's shoulder.
A group of teenagers pass by. They're carrying soccer balls. One notices DJ and Nicholette.
TEEN: Hey – we need two more for our teams! You two wanna join in?
Nicholette and DJ turn – Billy notices the one guy – very cute – looking at Nicholette, very interested.
TATUM: He seems cute …
Nicholette walks over to her parents.
NICHOLETTE: You guys won't mind if I play a round or two with them? Please … the one guy is really cute …
BILLY: Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.
Tatum swats him on the arm.
TATUM: Don't be such a wet blanket. Besides, it's not like she's anything like we were at that age.
NICHOLETTE: I'll stay if you want me to, Daddy …
BILLY: (sighing) No, I think it'll be good for you to make some new friends. Go have some fun. Be back in an hour, the burgers will be ready by then – if Dewey doesn't burn them first.
Nicholette kisses him on the cheek.
NICHOLETTE: Thanks Dad! I love you!
TATUM: The one guy – the cute one – make sure you get his number!
Nicholette blushes before she turns, running off to join her new friends, dragging DJ along with them. Billy watches them, his nerves rising. Tatum places her hand on his.
TATUM: She'll be alright.
Beat.
BILLY: I know.
He leans in and kisses Tatum and we pan up with a view of the park, the couple's kiss lingering on into the skies …
THE END
