Chapter 5:

INT. TATUM & BILLY'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Tatum sits at a laptop. She is looking through various articles. All about the spread of cancer, possible treatments. She holds her head in her hands, allowing herself to break down.

The door opens and in enters Billy. Tatum quickly minimizes the screen and closes the laptop. She stands up and kisses her fiancé.

BILLY: Wasn't expecting you back this early.

TATUM: I got an earlier flight.

BILLY: What about the girls?

TATUM: They got a later flight with my mom.

BILLY: Ah. You and she fighting again? What was it about this time?

TATUM: Oh, you know the usual …

Billy goes to the kitchen and pours himself a glass of wine. He takes a sip and stops as he sees Tatum's puffy eyes. He sets the wine glass down and holds her shoulders.

BILLY: You've been crying -.

TATUM: It's just allergies.

BILLY: Tatum …

TATUM: Okay, look … there's something I really have to tell you … We'd better sit down.

Billy nods and sits on the couch. He holds Tatum's hands and waits. Tatum takes a deep breath.

TATUM: Okay, so it's like this -.

BILLY'S PHONE RINGS!

BILLY: Ugh, sorry!

He looks at it. It's Mr. Bartleby. Billy puts the phone on silent. He takes Tatum's hands again.

BILLY: Go on -.

TATUM: You see – there's a reason we went to pick out our dresses in New York. I-.

Billy's phone is vibrating obnoxiously in his pocket.

TATUM: (frustrated) Do you want to get that?

BILLY: Sorry, sorry, my boss. Just a sec'.

Billy stands up and walks into another room, answering the phone.

BILLY: Yes, Mr. Bartleby. Yes, no, yes … okay …

Tatum sits there, playing with her fingers, trying to keep it together. Billy reenters the room, hanging up the phone. He sits down again, hand on her knee.

BILLY: Okay, I'm sorry. Just Bartleby riding my ass again. Now, what'd you want to tell me?

Tatum bites her lip. Nerves overcome her again.

TATUM: Just ... just that I really can't wait for the wedding!

BILLY: (skeptical) That's it?

TATUM: Why does it always have to be something?

Billy eyes her. He finally gives her a peck on the cheek.

BILLY: If you say so.

Tatum sits there, biting her lip. Another golden opportunity to tell him has slipped her by.

INT. OFFICE BUILDING LOBBY – NIGHT

A janitor walks into the building (yes, the same janitor from the last two stories) mopping the floor. His boots skid on something already wet. And thick. And red.

He looks down and sees blood … a trail of blood.

He removes his earbuds and his mouth drops in horror at the sight … Ross the Security Guard is facedown at his desk, a knife embedded in his back. And above – CANDACE IS HANGING FROM A CEILING RAFTER, HER INSIDES ON THE OUTSIDE.

And on the wall, daubed in Candace's blood – a message:

MAUREEN LIED!
