Chapter 10:
EXT. OCEANVIEW GARDENS AMUSEMENT PARK - EVENING
The old amusement park is open and ready for action for Spring Break! Gale parks in the lot, staring up at the roller coaster and the Ferris Wheel. She sighs and exits the car.
The amusement park is old-fashioned, meaning that you don't have to pay to get in. Tickets to get on rides are for sale. Gale walks up to the entry-booth and quickly flashes Dewey's badge.
GALE: DETECTIVE RILEY, San Martin PD. May I speak with your supervisor?
INT. AMUSEMENT PARK OFFICE – EVENING
MR. SIMMONS, the park administrator pours Gale a cup of coffee.
MR. SIMMONS: You really must forgive me, I wasn't expecting a cop to show up. Today's the grand opening Detective, er …
GALE: Riley.
MR. SIMMONS: (sitting) How can I help you?
GALE: I'm investigating the murder from last night …
MR. SIMMONS: Oh, horrible business. I knew the Captain … used to provide us with feeders for the sharks at the aquarium up the road. Oh yes, I'm a Jack of many trades. Theme parks, aquariums, entertainment is my game.
GALE: Cute. So anyway I would like access to your employee manifests …
MR. SIMMONS: Oh, but that's all private …
GALE: (flashes the badge) Is it?
MR. SIMMONS: (sighing) This way.
CUT TO:
BASEMENT – EVENING
Mr. Simmons is sitting at a computer, printing out employee records. He hands her the printout.
MR. SIMMONS: Here you are – a list of all employees from Woodsboro over the past few seasons.
GALE: Can … can I be alone to look this over?
MR. SIMMONS: Of course …
Gale scans down the list. Ah, there it is. Bryson Mitchell. He worked here for several seasons … well she knew that. But she's had a hunch … the killer had to have known Bryson, had to have been in his group of friends.
Her eyes widen … she does see a name she recognizes. Disappointment crosses her face. In an instant, her phone is out and we
CUT TO:
EXT. LOOMIS HOUSE – EVENING
SHERIFF BURKE is on the scene, along with Detective Rogers. Mr. Loomis' body has been wheeled away.
SHERIFF BURKE: Let's close the scene down for the night.
Dewey pulls up in his car, sunglasses askew …
BURKE: Deputy – you're late.
DEWEY: I know, I know – traffic.
BURKE: Alright everyone, let's call it a night.
Burke and his team pack it in. Dewey sighs, preparing to get in his car. Rogers puts a hand on his shoulder.
ROGERS: Deputy … stay back for a minute …
They wait until Burke and the others have gone. The exterior of the house stands dull and silent with POLICE LINE – DO NOT CROSS BARRIERS.
ROGERS: Alright, come on.
She leads Dewey inside the house.
INT. LOOMIS HOUSE – EVENING
Rogers points to the bloodstains on the floor.
ROGERS: He was attacked from behind. Thrown down here.
Dewey winces. He knew Mr. Loomis, but only through Billy. But still …
DEWEY: Why'd you ask me to stay back?
ROGERS: If the killer attacked from behind, he was already in the house.
DEWEY: We knew that.
ROGERS: The coroner will have the full report, but I saw the body. I've seen many bodies – the horrors we humans will inflict on each other. You can learn a lot about the killer from the entry wounds. Between you and me … I think the killer was a female …
DEWEY: A … a female …?
ROGERS: I've learned to trust my gut.
DEWEY: (eyes widen) Debbie! Debbie Loomis!
ROGERS: Who?
DEWEY: His ex wife! I forget, you were already here in Woodsboro when she turned up. She showed up later today, after you left, in San Martin Inlet.
ROGERS: Billy's mother? Crap, okay, I'll give Wayne a call, he is not to release her from police custody. Hang tight.
Rogers races out of the house. Dewey stares at the bloodstains when his phone goes off. He answers.
DEWEY: Hello?
GALE: Dewey!
DEWEY: Gale, I'm in the middle of -.
GALE: Would you shut up and listen to me? I'm at the amusement park, I got their employee manifests. I had a hunch and I was right! Bryson worked here, we knew that. But here's the strange thing – so did James!
DEWEY: What?
GALE: Tatum told us she was introducing James to her friends for the first time. But that's not quite true. He worked at the amusement park during the same season two years ago!
DEWEY: Are you sure? I mean, it's possible they worked different shifts, never met!
GALE: Oh no, Dewey! They worked the same shift. They operated the Haunted House together!
DEWEY: (anger growing) I told you! I told you I didn't like him!
GALE: And I was going to be a bridesmaid.
DEWEY: We've got to warn Tatum. I'm coming back up now, we've – gack!
A SHADOW APPEARS BEHIND HIM, THROWING A NOOSE AROUND HIS NECK!
CUT TO:
Gale, in the basement.
GALE: Dewey? Dewey?
CUT TO:
Dewey is thrown onto the floor. He cries out, blood pouring from his mouth. The phone on the floor inches from him.
DEWEY: Gale! Gale!
GALE: Dewey!
DEWEY: Gale! I love you!
THUNK!
Dewey's body stiffens as a knife enters his back.
GALE: Dewey? Oh God, Dewey!
With a grunt, Ghostface yanks the knife out his back. He hears a car door slam. He looks down at Dewey's still moving, groaning body, before vanishing into the night.
CUT TO:
Gale is in tears. She's in the basement, dialing 9-11.
GALE: Yes, hello! I think my husband's been attacked! Yes, the Loomis residence in Woodsboro! Oh God please, please hurry!
Gale hears something behind her. She stops, whirling around. The door behind her is open.
Next to her, the COMPUTER FLICKERS TO LIFE. She scans it … a video of her in live time flickers on the screen. She stares at it … realizes she's being filled …
GALE: Oh hell no.
She turns, running out the door, up the basement stairs to the main office.
GALE: Mr. Simmons!
She rushes into his office … he's sitting there in a chair, his back to her.
GALE: Mr. Simmons?
She turns the chair …
HIS EYES HAVE BEEN GOUGED OUT, HIS GUTS ON HIS LAP.
Gale covers her mouth, trying to keep from shrieking. She backs away … GHOSTFACE APPEARS FROM BEHIND, GRABBING HER!
CUT TO:
A janitor is walking the hallway of the amusement parks' main office, listening to music. The same janitor from the first SCREAMMAKE that discovered Jenna's body in the pool. He's dancing along and comes to Mr. Simmon's office.
The music quickens.
He stands in the doorway and his eyes widen …
JANITOR: I just steamed those curtains!
The office is empty, no sign of Mr. Simmons, no sign of Gale, no sign that anything horrific has happened at all.
We then see an aerial shot of the amusement park, rides moving, children laughing as though there was no danger in the world.
