CHAPTER 3 - Wish on a Shooting Star

Kagome's aura spiked, she was fighting the curse she was under with all her might. Tsubaki was kneeling beside her, whispering in her hears, trying to break the willful women.

- You are weak, how can you stay by his side? He sees you as a burden. He will never love a weak women.

Kagome was screaming for her to stop. Screaming in her mind that she was wrong. That she was not weak. but the dark miko knew doubts still plagued her heart. The spell was not broken, which meant that Kagome had darkness in her, darkness she could exploit for her own benefit. She tightened her grip on the Shikon no Tama and pain rushed through Kagome's body.

- You are weak, your friends will die because of your weakness.

She opened the door slightly, letting the sound of the battle raging outside reach Kagome's hears. She could feel the fear of the miko. Kagome did not want her friends to die. She wanted to be there for them, to support them as best she could. She wanted to run to them, tell them she was okay.

- Where is Kagome, Inu Yasha yelled. His question was only answered by a cruel smile for his opponent.

- Who knows….

- You bastard, if you hurt her I'll make you pay!

The horde of demon that surrounded the group was never ending. Sango and Miroku were trying to kill as many as they could to let Inu Yasha deal with Naraku, but they were exhausted. Not knowing where Kagome was limited their ability to fight. Miroku could not use his Wind Tunnel knowing the Naraku's insects were everywhere, and he feared sucking Lady Kagome with the rest of the demons. Inu Yasha could not use his Kaze no Kisu for the same reasons.

- Hiraikotsu!

Sango was on Krirara's back, flying above the castle trying to spot Kagome from above. It was still mid-day but the sky was as dark as the middle of the night. The air was poisonous and even with her demon hunter mask, Sango and trouble breathing on the ground. Miroku could purify it around it and well it did not bother Inu Yasha. She on the other hand needed to fight in the sky to clear her head and to have a better vision of the battlefield. The men in her group would admit shamelessly that out of them it was Sango that was the most proficient at coming up with battle plans. She was calm and had a good instinct when it came to finding out her enemies' weakness.

Watching how Naraku was moving she could see he did not want them to approach one side of his castle.

- Inu Yasha! He is protecting the left side of the building, Kagome is probably there! She yelled.

Inu Yasha's ears twitched and he ran toward the left, swinging his sword he met with Naraku's barrier. The shield was small and only protected Naraku's body and one specific room.

- She is there isn't she! Bastard what are you doing with Kagome, let her go!

Kagome's power spiked again. Her face showed angered. Screaming inside her own head she argued with every comment Tsubaki was pushing into her mind. She was unreasonable, she would not doubt her friends. She refused everything Tsubaki was throwing her way, not listening to her lies. She was underestimated by the dark miko. One could not comprehend her blind faith she had towards the group she was traveling with. Tsubaki never had friendship that meaningful to her, she would prefer to manipulate the people around her rather than befriend them. A mistake she would pay for dearly.

One last comment, one last try to break her spirt, Tsubaki thought to her self, that all I need. But she was too late. Kagome opened her eyes and summoned all her powers forward and yelled her rage; creating an explosion that knocked both miko outside the room and in the outside court where Kagome's friends were fighting.

She fell on her back, knocking the air out of her lungs. Choking heavily to catch her breath she looked at her friends. She felt relieved to see they were uninjured but worried about the battle that was taking place before her eyes.

Sensing her inattention, Naraku's ceased the opportunity to grab Kagome with one of his tentacles. He was furious that she was still pure, that his plan failed. Oh, how he would have liked to see Inu Yasha's face when he'd looked at the miko and realised she had nothing good left in her. He squeezed her hard, she had to feel his anger, she had to pay for resisting him. He grabbed Tsubaki as well, she failed him and she would pay too with her life. He crushed them until he could hear their bone snap. They both screamed. Tsubaki started to beg for her life, giving excuses on why she failed but Naraku was not interested in hearing her plea. He pinned her on the ground hoping it would shut her up. He dangled Kagome in front of Inu Yasha knowing he would not dare attacking him if it meant endangering his friend.

Tsubaki knew she was dying, again. The first time haven't been without pain but this time she senses that she would have an agonizing death. Injured by the blast Kagome set off and now in Naraku's grip, she was not going to survive this.

Still holding the jewel in her hand, she refused to hand it over. The black crystal pulsing, complete and darken by the spider for the first time in years, it was ready to accomplish any wish she would make. In front of her she saw Kagome's friends fighting against Naraku's tentacles. He was playing with them, not using his full strength and yet they struggled. Inu Yasha was waving his big sword and making threats, but she could see that even he was running out of strength. He was a hanyo after all. Nothing compared to the full-fledged demons she encountered throughout the years. No, he needed more power. And so, she knew what her wish would be.

Crushed, all her bones were being crushed. Her mind was at her limits, her vision darkened. With her last breath Tsubaki could only mumble a word. Yokai. Her last thought was for Kagome, the little miko was injured, crushed by the weight of Naraku's tentacles. She would die soon if she was not freed. Kagome was panting, trying desperately to catch her breath. A stream of blood was running from the corner of her mouth. Naraku's attention shifted towards the young miko and started to crush a little bit more, making her scream and infuriate her companion. She knew that some of her bones would never mend the right way, she would probably ever walk again. What a horrible way to die.

Naraku laughed at the pathetic attempts Inu yasha made to fight him. Waving the Tessaiga around with no real intent to kill. He could not give it his all now that Kagome was between the two of them. He wanted the both of them to suffer. They were always in his way, helping those he tormented only because they had the idea to defeat him. Why couldn't them let him rule the world. He was a demon, they were only insects, humans. Sensing Kagome's power fighting against his grasp he knew that her soul had returned to her. At least Kikyo was now dead, at least he would not have to worry about her anymore.

Naraku nodded at Kagura who was behind him, watching the fight with hope he'd lose and set her free from this prison he created for her. She reveled herself, dragging the corpse of Kikyo, lifeless. Letting go of the dead golem without any compassion at the feet of her master she remained silent not wanting to earn the wrath of Naraku. Her opinion or thought were not asked for or wanted.

At the sight of his old lover's dead body Inu Yasha stopped right in his track, lowering in weapon in shock. His body started to tremble uncontrollably, tears pooling at his eyes. Shock settled in for a moment and the castle fell silent. Sango and Miroku could only watch as their friend stood there in disbelief of what he was witnessing. Inu Yasha screamed as pain consumed him. Forgetting what surrounded him he started to cry for his lover.

-KIKYO! You fucking asshole ill make you pay. You killed the only one I ever loved!

Suddenly Inu Yasha's demonic power spiked, his rage consuming him. He let go of Tessaiga and ran to Kikyo's lifeless body. Touching her face, he could feel her cold skin and to him she looked like she was smiling at him. His imagination maybe, but that's how he wanted to remember her. Not full of hate and the despising women his friends had come to know, but the sweet and smiling miko he fell in love all those years ago.

His eyes turned red in an instance. Overwhelmed with rage and Tessaiga not at his side to subdue his demon blood, Inu Yash lost control of himself. A dark growl escaped his throat, a threat to any one around him, friends or foes alike.

Kagome could only watch as the one she felt so deeply for go to the woman that tried to kill her on many occasions. He stated that he only loved her. The pain Naraku was inflecting her was nothing in comparison to what she was watching. He did not love her. They shared kisses and she was upfront about her feelings toward him. But he never felt that way toward her.

She was speechless, couldn't bring herself to yell his name. Her chest felt tight, her lungs forgot how to work, she felt like she was suffocating. She never understood why people called it a heartbreak but not anymore. She was devastated at the realisation that nothing she did towards Inu Yasha made him feel for her. Her mind was getting numb; she couldn't move or scream, not that she wanted too anyway. All she wanted was to go home and cry all she could in the comfort and privacy of her house.

Suddenly a light flickered in the corner of her eyes. Naraku's attention was focused on the scene in front of him and did not care about her. She could not do much anymore, he knew as much that her legs were broken and that she would not fight any more. She was broken on every aspect.

The jewel shouted in the air, escaping the grasp of the dead Tsubaki lying not far away from them. The Shikon no Tama headed straight towards Inu Yasha. Sensing what was going to happened, Naraku tried to step in front of the jewel, claiming what ever wish the dead miko made to be profitable to him. He raised his head and braced for impact. However, he miscalculated his move. He was still holding Kagome in front of him and instead of receiving the glowing ball of power, it headed straight towards Kagome.
