Inspired by the comment chain on a YouTube video where Aether and Lumine's VAs were arguing. Y'all said you wanted a fic, so why not XD. I'm rather excited to see where this goes.

If you have suggestions for fandoms that should make cameos as the worlds that these two visit, let me know. Any words that have asterisks (*) next to them will be a 'lore word' that is explained at the bottom of the chapter. A lore word is a word that is used to refer to something either within the particular world, or it's a word that has to do with the aspects of other world-hoppers. (Hope that wasn't too confusing.)

Now the chaos can commence.

After stepping through the portal, the first thing they were greeted with was sweltering heat. Lumine spent a few seconds in confusion before realizing she was at the edge of a volcano.

"Eep!" she jumped back. "Aether! Where the heck are you?!"

"Up here, chillax." On a platform made of solidified energy came the grumbly voice of her brother.

Lumine tilted her head back, peering at him. There was a quickly-fading ethereal glow about him, and burns on his face that were disappearing just as quickly. Combined with his slightly upset expression, she was able to deduce what had happened.

"Did you seriously just fall into the volcano and die?" gawked Lumine, activating her flitters* and darting up to his level.

"Shut up."

"Aether, you little newbie." She giggled, lying on her back in the air. "Did the portal just dump you into the lava?"

He puffed out his cheeks in an adorably pouty way. "Maybe."

"Aw, you poor thing. How about we go to a store or something and buy a treat as compensation."

"I'll accept that."

Later, as they nibbled on ice cold candies provided by a nearby town, the twins entered a strange and eerie swampland. They fell silent and summoned their weapons. The branches of the trees seemed to be reaching towards them. Lumine gritted her teeth. How annoying that her and her brother's downtime be interrupted by a wrong turn.

A creature colored dark purple and grey leapt out of the bushes. She didn't bat an eye as she plunged her weapon into its shoulder. Aether sliced its lethal point, and it reduced itself to ash. Curious, Lumine swept aside the black dust and found a small shard of a purple shell that the monster had dropped. She picked it up.

"Hey," Aether objected. "I'm the one who killed it."

"Yeah, well I hit it first and I'm the one it attacked."

"No fair. I fell into a volcano."

"I already bought you a treat for that!"

"Just give it!" He made a halfhearted lunge.

She stepped back. "It's a shell, Aether, not that big a deal."

"If it isn't a big deal, then you'll share it."

Lumine huffed, "When we get another one you can have it."

"How about when we get another one, you take it, and give that one to me right now."

She opened her mouth to express her fading patience, but was unable to. More monsters suddenly ambushed the twins. Perhaps they were enraged over the death of one of their brethren. One of them released a poison-filled thorn that hit Lumine's neck, and its effects commenced in less than half a second. She felt a slight sting, and she went deaf and blind for a few seconds. To an outside perspective, she would fade into golden dust before swiftly reforming again.

Lumine opened her eyes again, groaning. Her head throbbed. Being revived wasn't always the most pleasant experience, but as a world-hopper, she couldn't complain about its benefits.

"Looks like you died to poison," Aether commented. He was on his knees, back facing her, picking up the shells of the monsters he had apparently slain. "Again."

"That was two worlds ago. I haven't died since."

"Until just now." He dusted off one of the purple items and pocketed it.

"At least I'm not klutzy enough to fall into a volcano."

He glared at her. "No fair! The portal just dumped me in."

She rolled her eyes, "You could have activated your flitters. Anyways, gimme one of those shells."

Aether scowled, "I killed all of them."

"Just one, as compensation for my death. It's your fault for distracting me."

Grumbling, he tossed her the breastplate-like monster armor. "I get the other five."

"Sure. But I'm keeping the original one."

Aether harrumphed in response.

Lumine peered around the swamp. "The candies were good, but I don't like this world. Let's get outta here ASAP."

"Fine by me."

Now that I think about it, this'll probably be like a bunch of drabbles or small one-shots depending on what content I'm working with.

Hope you enjoyed!
