Alex cradled Olivia in her arms in the back seat of the sedan and rocked her gently while telling the child that they were just going to work. She was sure that Walker was lying about his reason for being there. While Fury would use anyone to his advantage, Bucky's texts had not conveyed a growing urgency or any instability. Olivia looked up at her mother and asked if they would see Bucky. The question surprised Walker who was sitting next to them in the back seat and he looked at the girl with narrowed eyes.

"I'll let you answer that," Alex told Walker. The steadiness of her voice surprised her. Inside she was frightened but she was determined to seem as calm as possible for Olivia's sake.

Walker stammered as the car started moving again when the traffic light turned green. Both Alex and Olivia looked over at him and awaited an answer. After a long pause, he answered that he was sure they would see him.

"Where are we going?" Alex asked breaking the silence that had descended in the vehicle. Even Olivia had remained quiet, preferring to snuggle in her mother's arms. Alex tried to peer through the darkly tinted windows. The growing darkness wasn't helping her determine where they headed. Walker didn't answer instead giving a slightly menacing smile.

When the car finally came to a stop and the driver opened the door to allow them to exit, Alex looked around. They weren't in the city any longer. She wasn't familiar with what she could see of the surroundings or the building they were in front of. Without a word, Walker escorted her and Olivia through a large metal and glass door. Once in the foyer, he pulled out his phone and made a call.

The call was short and Alex was unable to tell who Walker had been speaking with. Immediately after putting the phone back into a pocket, he led her and Olivia down the hallway and around a corner. Walker opened a door and pointed for them to enter. The overhead lights illuminated a room that was furnished unusually for being in an office building. There was a small couch with pillows, two oversized chairs, and other items usually found in a living room. The windows even had dark curtains hanging over slatted shades. While her own preferred office space was a bit unconventional, this room had definitely been made to simulate a part of a home.

Walker told them they could sit and make themselves comfortable before leaving the room. Alex walked around shadowed by Olivia. She took note of the many books carefully lined up on two shelves and a few current magazines piled on an end table. On the far side of the room was a door that seemed to adjoin to another room but when Alex tried to open it, she discovered it had been locked. Curious, she went back and tried the door they had entered a short time before; it was also now locked. With a defeated look, she sank into one of the chairs and tried to answer Olivia's question about when Bucky would be arriving.

When the door opened a short time later, it wasn't Walker. Ryan Sciple walked into the room followed by a disguised Zemo. Sciple's short greeting was met with a look of disgust from Alex. He ignored her and instead addressed Olivia.

"Hi, Olivia! How are you?" Sciple said cheerfully and leaned in close to her.

The child looked up at him warily and pressed closer to her mother. "Okay," she said quietly her voice slightly quavering.

Alex gave the girl a hug and kissed her head before standing up. She instructed Olivia to stay in the chair and gestured to Sciple to follow her to the far corner of the room.

"What the hell are you doing?" Alex asked him in an angry whisper.

"I was talking to my daughter."

"You know she's not comfortable with you that close. Why are we here?" Alex said, doing her best to keep her voice low.

"How else am I going to see Olivia?" Sciple said.

"I didn't keep her from you, Ryan. You left and never called."

Alex repeated her question with a determined look on her face. "You had us locked in this room," she replied with a glare.

Zemo watched the pair from a few feet away did his best to hear what they were saying. He managed to catch a bit of the argument as well as Sciple finally admitting there was more to it than just wanting to see his child. When the scientist asked Alex about the serum, Zemo edged closer.

The following afternoon found Bucky heavily knocking on the door of Sam's hotel room. Alex still hadn't responded to his many texts nor had she called after he had finally left a voice mail. He was concerned and it took every bit of restraint he had not to go over to her house.

"Have you heard from Fury?" Bucky demanded as the door opened. He entered the room without waiting to hear Sam's answer.

"No," Sam replied

"Something isn't right."

"You're over-reacting."

"I haven't heard from Alex either," Bucky said.

"So... that's the issue?" Sam asked with a smile.

"It's not the issue."

"Maybe she went away for a few days. Us regular folk don't get frozen in a tube; we take vacation days."

"She'd answer." Bucky fixed Sam with a serious look before looking at the ground. "She always answers," he muttered to himself.

The conversation turned and they bickered back and forth over what to do next. Bucky's phone pinged interrupting the squabble. He hurriedly grabbed it while Sam uttered an I told you so. Bucky hoped to see a message from Alex. Instead, the screen displayed an unfamiliar number that had left a cryptic message.

Meet me at the park on 101st and Third Avenue.

Get there as soon as you can. I'll be waiting.

Who is this? Bucky typed in return.

Come alone, James.

Bucky stared at the phone even after the screen went dark. As Sam insistently asked if something was wrong and if it was Alex. Bucky shook his head and considered what to do next.

"I'm going for a walk," Bucky said.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Just wanna get some air."

"Don't do anything stupid," Sam warned as Bucky left the apartment.

Bucky tried to will the Uber to go faster. He eagerly jumped out the car a block from the park and hurriedly walked the rest of the distance while doing his best to scope out the area and people in it. Bucky looked around trying to figure out which of the people there had sent the text.

I'm here. Where are you? Bucky typed and sent the text to the mystery number.

On the bench.

Bucky cautiously approached a lone figure sitting on a bench. As he neared, the person on the bench turned around and smiled broadly.

"Nice to see you again, James. I trust you're well."

Bucky's eyes grew wide as he stared into Zemo's face. Zemo said nothing but his expression turned smug; he was enjoying the moment more than he had anticipated.

"I didn't think you'd turn yourself in but, let's go," Bucky said as he stood in front of Zemo.

"You aren't going to take me in, James. You need me right now."

"Why do I need you?"

"Because they have her."

"Who has who?"

"John Walker and his government friends have Alexandra," Zemo told him.

"If you know all that, you also know she works for the government," Bucky said. The calmness and nonchalance of his reply belied his concern. He glanced at Zemo and then looked around the park. A dog walker trying to manage four animals caught his attention.

Zemo smiled, "They have the child, too."

Bucky's head snapped around. He stared at Zemo and pressed him for more details. Zemo shared what little he had overheard. The scant information caused Bucky to remark that he wasn't giving him much more than he already knew. Although he didn't mention it aloud, Zemo noted Bucky's concern. His suspicion which began when Alex in the hallway with Bucky in the Midwest lab was now confirmed. The Winter Soldier had some sort of feelings for his counselor.

Realizing that Zemo might not have much else to share, Bucky ordered the other man to follow him and not try anything. Zemo feigned ignorance and tilted his head when he asked what exactly that statement meant. Bucky glared back in return, "Don't push me."

The pair returned to the hotel. Sam's mouth hung agape when he opened the door and saw Bucky and Zemo standing in the entry.

"This is why you went for a walk? You knew where he was?" Sam demanded.

"I didn't know it was him."

"You should've told me. We're partners, remember?" Sam said angrily shaking his head. "What if he brought a gun or something?"

"James knows we're good. Right, James?" Zemo said.

Bucky shrugs noncommittedly. "I didn't know it was you."

"I'm here to help," Zemo said with a pointed look at Sam.

"Help? We're looking for you. Gonna take you back to jail," Sam replied.

"You can't take me back to jail. You need me...," Zemo said.

"Stop talking," Bucky ordered Zemo.

Bucky explained to Sam that Walker, at the request of Sciple, had taken Alex and Olivia to a building outside the city. Sciple had been asking Alex for information about the Super Soldier Serum.

"Olivia?" Sam wondered aloud.

"Alex's daughter," Bucky replied. He thought for a second or two then added, "Sciple is her father."

Zemo was seated behind Bucky and began silently mouthing words to Sam, conveying his thoughts on Bucky's feelings towards Alex. Sam, who had already figured out that Bucky was interested in Alex, raised his eyebrows and pursed his lips. Upon seeing Sam's reaction, Bucky spun around.

"Give me the address," he demanded from Zemo.

"I understand you are concerned. So am I," Zemo said. His statement caused both Sam and Bucky to look at him suspiciously. Their expressions didn't put an end to the conversation however. While not sharing everything, Zemo related a bit of what Sciple and his colleagues had been working on.

"Even if it isn't planned, you showing up is exactly what they want," Zemo told Bucky.

Sam reluctantly agreed. "We should call Fury."

Bucky shook his head. "If they have Alex and Olivia, why hasn't he called us? He's Alex's boss. They talk. Don't you think he'd be concerned?"

Simultaneously, Bucky and Sam focused their gaze on Zemo.
