So this had hit me around last year and I've had this written ever since but I kept forgetting to publish it. Now I'm finally publishing it. Am I going to continue? No idea.
It was well known that the mafia was run by Familigias (Families) and it was difficult to stay away from those groups permanently. It was also known that Vongola was one of the top families and that the Arcobaleno were the most powerful flame users in the world. What wasn't know was the separate groups that were called Guilds that were also the most powerful.
Not much was known about the guilds, but the main players of Guilds were very well known. Such as a fact that the guild Fairy Tail had the strongest flame users, especially Sky. Even the chosen Arcobaleno had to acknowledge that there was a strong contender for the same flame spot.
But Guilds were known for not following the strict structure of the mafia as a whole. They did what they saw was right and stuck with it, regardless of what the mafia would say. Such as the Masters (Heads) of Guilds weren't always Skies and there was no strict hierarchy.
Of the key players, Natsu Dragneel was both the strongest Sky and one of the most reckless people. At this point the Vindice have given up trying to get him to behave and just clean up after him. The sheer amount of destruction that Natsu could cause was horrifying and awe inspiring at the same time. And that wasn't even including any of his Guardians.
His right hand, his storm, Gray Fullbuster was one of the people Natsu fought the most with. It always boggled everyone just how they were able to harmonize and trust each other enough for Gray to be his right hand. He was also one of the weirdest flame users in that he never got cold, but it wasn't because of his body temperature. He almost seemed at home in ice.
His left hand, his mist, Erza Scarlet was a demon in her own right. But she had the ability to cow her sky and storm into behaving. She was insanely strong though and actually preferred to fight with swords even though she had mist flames. She was unconventional in that she specialized in using her flames to change her armor and swords depending on the fight.
His cloud, Gajeel Redfox was another guardian Natsu fought a lot with. (Actually, it was easier to note which guardians Natsu didn't fight with rather than the ones he did.) No one was quite sure how or why, but Gajeel could eat anything iron and use it with his cloud flames to integrate into his body and different attacks.
His sun, Wendy Marvell was one of the very few guardians that Natsu didn't fight with. While her flames were insanely powerful, she was known as one of the weaker fighters in the group. She also managed to use the very air around her for attacks. She was also one of the more protected guardians, even though she could hold her own in a fight. As far as everyone was concerned, Wendy was the little sister of the whole group and they protected her ferociously.
His rain, Lucy Heartfilia was actually an odd one in the whole group. She was born and raised in a medium sized mafia family, but ran away before finally reappearing and being a guardian in Fairy Tail. It was the height of gossip for years to come honestly. Especially when the Heartfilia family took a huge hit and went bankrupt. She was known as one of the weaker fighters in the group, but she would sometimes fight with her fellow guardians. A majority of the mafia would sometimes joke how she seemed to be the only sane one in the group, which fit as she was the rain. She was also one of their main negotiators in general.
His lightning, Laxus Dreyar was the least seen when in concerned to being with his sky. He actually had his own smaller group called the Thunder Legion that he was mainly with. But when in doubt, Laxus would be there for his sky and his fellow guardians. Laxus was also the grandson of the current Master of Fairy Tail, but no one dared to mention that fact as that was asking for Laxus to go on a rampage. Laxus was also one of the weirder elements that could eat literal lightning and it seemed to help his flames.
That didn't even include the Fairy Tail guild in general, they were just the main players. That wasn't taking into account the other guilds that was scattered around the planet. Fairy Tail was just one of the more well-known guilds, and the most destructive.
Checkerface had actually attempted to recruit Natsu to become the Sky pacifier holder, but the man always managed to escape Checkerface. And Checkerface didn't dare approach any of the guardians as they were bonded elements.
One of the things about the group that always baffled the mafia is that the group had been together for years, yet never seemed to age. No one could agree how long they had been around, but they could agree that they should have aged by now.
One of the things not well known about flames was, the more powerful the flames, the longer the user's lifespan was. And seeing as the whole group was one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, group of flame users, it was understandable that their aging was slowed down.
Natsu was returning to the guild hall when he felt it; the birth of a new Sky. He couldn't stop from smiling; it was always nice to know a new Sky had been born. He was the strongest Sky, and seeing how rare skies were, he could always feel when someone had been born with Sky flames. Whenever one was born, he usually went out of his way to go visit them in their toddler years to see who was the new little Sky. Also, to offer any assistance if they managed to activate their flames early.
So it was with a smile that he kicked the doors open to the guild hall to announce that he was back.
It would be roughly 5 years later that he actually stuttered and paused during a fight with Gray. That gave Gray the opening to punch Natsu across the room, but Natsu just sat up and frowned. This immediately made Gray pause; Natsu didn't usually frown, even during fights he would sometimes be grinning.
Hearing the lack of commotion, the guardians looked up to see Gray standing and staring at a sitting, frowning Natsu.
"Natsu?" Lucy called out as she also frowned.
Natsu made no indication that he heard her as his lit up his hands with Sky flames. The guardians in the room couldn't stop themselves from relaxing slightly at the warm feel of Natsu's flame. But Natsu continued to frown, and the frown was actually turning into a scowl as he continued to stare at his own flames.
"Natsu? You ok?" Lucy had gotten up at this point and was making her way to him.
They were in one of the smaller mansions the guild owned for when they would meet with any of the mafia. It was just Natsu and his guardians as apparently, they wanted to talk to the Sky and his guardians. To be honest, Lucy was the only one that paid attention to the meeting and made negotiations. The men had automatically started butting heads which lead to a brawl, which Wendy and Lucy ignored as Erza went to break up the fight but got dragged into it.
"I just felt a baby Sky disappear." Natsu finally uttered as he was scowling at his flames, as if trying to figure out something.
Lucy and Wendy winced physically while the others grimaced at the news. The others don't feel the birth of new elements, but they had felt an echo of pain through Natsu's flames when a sky would die unnaturally.
"You mean a baby Sky died?" Wendy asked as she reached out to hold Carla.
"It wasn't death though; I know what that feels like. There is a whisper of the flames still, but it's like something is smothering it." Natsu admitted as he let his flames die down and stood up. "Well, whatever it is, I'm going to find this baby sky."
"Do you want one of us to go with you?" Erza asked.
Usually Natsu would go off on his own unless there was a mission, but this was an unknown. An unknown that was affecting Sky flames and they didn't know what would happen. "Nah, I'll go on my own. I'll pulse if I need backup."
Pulse was a trick that Natsu had discovered in the early years of their bonding. Any of them could send a huge pulse of power down their bonds. Obviously Natsu's pulse could reach them easier, but they had all learned a way to use it if they needed backup. It was much faster than phones at any rate, and it could help pinpoint whoever was sending out the pulse. That and they all had bad habits of losing or breaking cell phones.
Kyoya Hibari might have only been a child, but by now he was aware of his territory. He was especially aware when he felt someone with an abundance of power enter his territory. He automatically scowled and started to stalk to intercept this intruder. Luckily for Kyoya, the intruder seemed to be heading somewhere specific so he would just have to trail before finally putting the intruder down.
When he finally saw who the intruder was, they were standing in the middle of the street with their nose in the air. Kyoya narrowed his eyes and was going to attack when the stranger's attention suddenly snapped to him. The stranger just gave Kyoya a feral grin which set Kyoya off.
Kyoya had known instinctively that the stranger was way stronger than him, but it didn't stop him from attacking. The fight was relatively quick before the stranger had Kyoya pinned to the ground. Kyoya snarled in rage and fought to be let free when he felt something warm start to soothe his irritation.
After Kyoya had calmed down, the stranger had gotten up and offered Kyoya a hand to stand up. "What is your name superior carnivore?" Kyoya asked as he pushed himself up.
The odd carnivore gave him a wide grin before answering, "Dragneel Natsu. Wasn't too bad little cloud, but you're too young yet."
"Dragon Carnivore." Kyoya stated back while giving a decisive nod.
"Dragon Carnivore why are you in my territory." Kyoya suddenly demanded, just as the stranger started to lift his nose in the air again.
"There is a baby Sky that has been changed. I'm looking for them to see if I can help." Dragneel casually answered as he started to sniff the air.
Kyoya suddenly felt the same warmth from before, but it seemed to be spreading out in the area. Kyoya couldn't stop from basking in the warmth a little though, it reminded him of a little animals' coat. Suddenly Dragneel brightened and started to walk up to a house deliberately.
Kyoya was curious and followed the carnivore, but lingered away from the man as he confidently marched up to a door and knocked on it. Kyoya knew this house, as he was memorizing where everyone lived at this point; it should be the Sawada residence.
Soon, the herbivore Nana Sawada opened the door and greeted the man sweetly. Kyoya stopped paying attention at that point and surveyed the area, making sure there was no trouble. When Kyoya glanced over though, he saw the mother herbivore was letting in the Dragon Carnivore. As soon as the door closed, he deemed the area safe and went off to patrol; the Dragon Carnivore could handle himself.
Natsu's elements all paused in some way when they started to feel the first stirrings of rage coming from their sky. While their sky was a hothead and got into more fights than he should, he never truly raged. After all, it was devastating when a Sky raged as they made their elements rage with them. And once a whole set was in a rage, unless a miracle happened to cool down the Sky which would cool down the others, the set usually fought to a very bloody death, taking hundreds with them.
When the small feeling of rage didn't calm down and they could feel it simmering in their sky, that's when they gave it more notice. After all, usually Natsu could take care of himself and deal with something like this easily, it wasn't like him to let anything go. But for some reason, the rage was there on a small scale and was simmering in the back of their minds.
So, when they received a text informing them that Natsu was going to be staying in Japan for more than a few days, they grew curious and worried. Luckily, most of them were doing something trivial and thus could drop their work to go to Japan. Natsu had chosen one of the mansions, meaning it was related somewhat to the mafia, and that he was serious about staying for more than a couple of days.
Surprisingly, it was Laxus and Gajeel who first showed up at the mansion. Laxus had sent the rest of his team back home. Both of them would have started butting heads like normal, but they could feel the tension in the air and agitated flames.
They both entered the house warily and started to try and sense where their sky was. They weren't too surprised when it appeared that Natsu was in the training grounds in the backyard. With how destructive the guild was as a whole, the plots of land always came with acres of free space.
The lightning and cloud guardians finally made it to the backyard and couldn't stop but stare a little at Natsu.
Natsu had changed out of a suit, they could tell as he was still wearing slacks, but he had his standard open vest and scarf on. The thing that made them pause was the sheer amount of destruction that had been done and that Natsu was still inflicting.
Natsu was a destructive person by nature, but his guardians knew him on a deep soul level and thus could distinguish the different types of destruction. This wasn't mindless destruction, or even destruction to relieve boredom. This was destruction that had a clear target but couldn't be carried through to whatever the true target was.
The two guardians knew that they would just have to wait for the others to show up, but from the feeling of the bonds, they would be arriving the same day. Gajeel and Laxus both found outside chairs and sat to wait for their fellow guardians.
After a couple of hours, with more than half the guardians now sitting outside watching their Sky, Natsu was still simmering in some anger but it wasn't clouded in rage. He sat on the ground finally and lit himself completely on fire with Sky flames, who were holding a bit more of his storm secondary than usual.
Instinctively, the guardians that were there let their own flames intermingle with the sky flames. It almost automatically untensed all that were present, though Natsu continued to remain like a bonfire.
When the last of the guardians, Wendy, finally arrived, no one said a word and they just basked in each other's flames. Finally, Natsu spoke up, "They sealed a baby Sky."
Instantly there was a spike in killing intent from almost everyone present. Sealing was something found very early in mafia development. It was before it was almost mandatory that flame users had to be part of the mafia as a whole. There had been an option to get their flames sealed so that they didn't have to join any mafia family. But as time went on, they saw how damaging sealing flames was and the practice was practically banned.
So, for it to be current day and someone had sealed a Sky was repulsive.
"So, who's the fuck that we have to kill?" Gajeel finally asked.
The fact that no one, not even Wendy, tried to dispute the act of killing another spoke volumes of how badly that person had messed up.
"Baby Sky has familiar flames to that Giotto brat, and there was an aftertaste of Timoteo's flames along with that inverted fuck." Natsu finally answered after a minute of silence.
The fact that Natsu was using real names instead of using his nicknames for other skies also spoke volumes of how mad Natsu was. Natsu was horrendous at remembering names and usually just assigned nicknames to any important people he was supposed to remember. Skies held a special place in his memory though and he remembered those names but still preferred nicknames to actual names.
Instantly the mood darkened. Vongola had been on thin ice concerning Fairy Tail, especially with Natsu and his guardians. Ever since Timoteo had risen to power, the Vongola family had been doing things that they hated, Natsu especially.
There was one sky that Natsu hated with a fiery passion and refused to even utter his name. Iemitsu Sawada was the only inverted Sky that Natsu had ever met in his life, and every time the man was even in the same building as him, Natsu would automatically snarl. It made it very hard to negotiate with Team Natsu and Fairy Tail in general when the head of CEDEF could never be part of the meeting, but Lal Mirch made do.
It now made a lot of sense just how and why Natsu had the first stages of rage and how it continued to simmer. They also were slightly surprised that there wasn't more damage being done to the environment. A baby Sky was sealed and there was faint marks of a man Natsu despised? It was a shock the town was still standing.
"I was able to expand the seal as far as possible, letting it naturally crack and break down within a number of years, seeing as the seal had already somewhat settled. I'll have to pay better attention to make sure nothing hinders that seal breaking. Timoteo's flames were all over that seal, and from the mother I found that the inverted is the father. The baby Sky will have a lack of balance and struggle in school, but it won't be as bad seeing as I made cracks already; I give it roughly 5 years before it completely breaks." Natsu explained as he made eye contact with all his guardians.
Natsu wasn't the smartest in the group by a long shot, but if there was something he was good at, it was fighting and flames. It actually made sense seeing as he was one of the few flame users who was raised by dragons, who taught the humans in the first place to use their flames.
In an effort to hide flames from the world, they had also erased sections of how humans learned to use flames. Dragons took the time to teach some humans how to utilize their soul fire, and those humans taught others. The lessons from the dragons were watered down at this point, especially considering how much time has passed since the initial lessons.
There were a select few though that had the opportunity to be raised by literal dragons and thus were taught the full extent of their flames and flames in general. They were called dragonslayers, and even some of them weren't completely raised by dragons, but rather the books that came directly from dragons.
Those who grew up with dragons were considered Generation 1, while those who learned from the books that came directly from the dragons was Generation 2, and Generation 3 was a combination of both.
Natsu, Wendy, and Gajeel were the only Generation 1 dragonslayers left, while there were a few Generation 2, and even less of Generation 3. Generation 1 dragonslayers would sometimes drift into Generation 3 territory by looking at books from dragons, but it wasn't enough for them to fully be considered Generation 3.
Along with being a Generation 1 dragonslayer, since Natsu was the strongest Sky, he had a lot of instincts that came with his flames that couldn't be learned. It was why Natsu was deemed a flames expert in general.
This was also a reason Checkerface didn't try harder to recruit Natsu, Natsu would have known that the system was flawed and then everything would have gone crashing down. Natsu always did point out to the Vindice that their flames were weird whenever they saw each other.
Natsu's face suddenly twisted into a snarl, "The next time I see either of those skies, I'm pounding them into the fucking ground. For now, I'll bide my time, but one more fuck up concerning another Sky and all bets are off."
None of his guardians pointed out that it was almost guaranteed that they will mess with another Sky, Xanxus. "Well at least leave us with something to do." Gray finally pointed out.
Natsu's face slowly became a feral grin, "You guys can take care of the guardians and whoever gets in our way. But those Skies are mine."
Natsu had growled the last word but the guardians indicated in some way that they heard and understood.
Now that Natsu had gotten that off his chest and his rage had finally disappeared, he narrowed his eyes at his guardians before declaring a fight between him and Laxus. And just like that, Team Natsu was back to normal.
In the following years, Natsu absolutely refused to meet anyone from Vongola anymore as he wasn't sure if he could stop himself from attacking. And when Natsu refused to go, a majority of his guardians would refuse to go. It strained the relationship between Fairy Tail and Vongola, and lots of families and guilds have taken notice of that fact.
Natsu had felt it when Timoteo's sons started to die. Each time he had paused in whatever he was doing and furrow his eyebrows trying to figure out which Sky had died. He visited each grave, after everyone else was gone of course. He was not impressed at how 3 Skies had died in Vongola's care.
He was even less impressed when he felt something happen to Xanxus.
Xanxus was a Sky that he actively got along with and would visit when he had the chance. If Xanxus was being serious, Natsu, his guardians, and Fairy Tail as a whole felt more like family than Vongola ever did. He still cared for Vongola, but it never grew into the warm feeling he felt whenever Natsu took the time to visit or at least send him a message. (Xanxus knew firsthand how often Team Natsu broke their cellphones so he didn't begrudge them about not messaging more)
It helped immensely that whenever Team Natsu did visit, they were always happy to test out the Varia as a whole. Everyone would deem it as "Hell Time", as everyone was tested and the amount of damage was enormous. But, it helped his assassins in multiple ways, and made them stronger and better at thinking on their feet.
Natsu was considered Xanxus' big brother for a reason. So, when something happened to Xanxus' flames, he dropped everything and immediately went searching.
Natsu was stillactively searching for Xanxus as he knew something was wrong but Vongola refused to cooperate with him and it was pissing him off. He couldn't actively storm the base, he could feel that Xanxus was in there, because of the treaty they held, but he was getting closer to breaking the damn thing.
Natsu had heard some whispers of what happened, and if they were true, there would be hell to pay. But for now, he would bide his time, and actively inform Daniela that Xanxus was in fact alive. Mama Bear, as Natsu fondly named her, was very worried and angry about the disappearance of her favorite grandson. Natsu had promised that he would rescue the Liger, Xanxus, as soon as he could. Natsu knew that she might not live long enough to even see her favorite grandson again, but that wouldn't stop him.
Daniela had changed her will to give Natsu everything she was going to give Xanxus just so that no one could actively seize what she was leaving behind. She trusted him to give it all to Xanxus when he returned, but if he returned before her death, she'll just change it directly to Xanxus.
If there was one thing the mafia knew as a whole, it was that guilds, Fairy Tail especially, kept their word. They were even known for going above and beyond their word a majority of the time, Team Natsu especially.
Between that time though, Natsu would also visit the Cub, Tsuna, whenever he could. He actually became a regular guest and when Tsuna had become 10 and the seal had broken, Natsu immediately started teaching him training and control exercises.
Natsu had been correct in that Tsuna was clumsy and struggled in school, but he had managed to scrape by with average grades thanks to the growing cracks in the seal.
So, when Tsuna was 14 and a new home tutor showed up at his front door claiming to make him a mafia boss, his mind blanked before he took out his phone to text Natsu.
If there was one thing that Tsuna had learned from Fairy Tail as a whole, it was that family came first regardless, and that you could always forge your own path. Natsu didn't believe in holding back, whether it was fighting or information, and thus Tsuna knew about the mafia as a concept and his connection. But Tsuna had expressed wishes to never join the mafia and if he had to join something because of his flames he would rather join a guild.
Tsuna despaired a little when his phone got the automatic response that Natsu's cellphone was currently broken, and thus wouldn't see the message until he got a new one. With the number of phones Fairy Tail, especially Team Natsu, broke, guilds as a whole made a communications company and privately owned specific phone numbers so that their phone number wouldn't keep changing with each new phone.
