Chapter 4: The Formation of a Team
By the time we had run out of the town center, and into the east side of town, the attract I had accidentally used on Asher had faded away. The Lucario's eyes were now back to their usual scarlet color, and the pink from the attack was now completely gone. While he did seem surprised with his fading feeling for me, he had returned to his normal self.
I couldn't stop apologizing to him once he had come to. I must've sounded like a mess to him, the number of times I had tripped over my words explaining that I had no idea I had known attract, and how it worked before I used it on him. Thankfully, Asher seemed to be understanding about the whole situation.
"Well… at least we know one of your moves now" He chuckled sheepishly, the blush on his cheeks never really fading away like the pink in his eyes did. "We should be thankful that no one caught you attracting me. Using that on another Pokémon is pretty illegal here." He explained as we turned around to head back to the town square. "It can be used to make others do things that they normally wouldn't do. Lower the price of an item on a salesperson, to even kidnapping someone. It's only legal to use in battles, or by rescue teams to get information out of a person"
I nodded slowly, not meeting him in the eyes ever since he had come to from my accidental attack. My cheeks felt red, as I still was embarrassed about the whole situation. That, and hearing what Asher had told me while he was still under the influence of attract made me a little flustered. I knew that everything he had told me in the café and on the way out of the town center wasn't his true feelings, but it still got my heart racing.
"Speaking of moves, are you aware of any other ones you may have?" Asher asked, looking down at me with a raised eyebrow.
I nodded, thinking back to when I had first met the Zangoose and Weavile pair that harassed me. I had tried to fight back against them when they had cornered me into a wall. While it wasn't much, I do remember a pink orb forming in my hand when I tried to attack them. "I-I think I have moonblast…" I whispered, looking up at my Lucario companion. "I tried to defend myself from those thugs back in the cave, and I think I saw a moonblast attack in my hand…. Though, it was pretty small. The two didn't seem to be too intimidated by it…" I said.
Asher nodded slowly, his paw resting on his chin. He stared at seemingly nothing in particular for a few moments before he spoke up again. "Sky, do you have any plans on what you're going to do after we get to my guild?" He asked, just before I was about to speak up again.
I was fairly surprised at the sudden change in topic. The question seemed to come out of nowhere, though it was a question I was pondering myself. Other than trying to figure out why I had become a Pokémon in the first place, I had no idea how I was going to support myself in this new world. "I… don't know," I admitted, rubbing my shoulder awkwardly. "I guess I can see what jobs there are around town I could sign up for." I suggested. I figured that it would be best to go with that route since it sounded like the housing I would get from Asher's guild would be temporary.
Asher paused for a few more moments before he stopped walking abruptly. He turned to face me with a serious look in his eyes. "If that's the case. Why don't you consider joining my guild? I've been searching for another team member recently, and I would appreciate the help" He said with a small smile.
I blinked in surprise, the offer catching me off guard. "Wha- But… why?" I asked, baffled that he would even suggest that I join his team. "You know I'm not the best fighter. I could barely muster an attack against the pair that went after me, and you took them out like it was nothing." I muttered, looking down at my feet.
"Well, as I said, I've been looking for a teammate for a while now. My guild recently put into place a rule, that every member in the guild must be part of a team. For safety concerns" He admitted, rubbing the back of his head "I haven't found a partner, and the deadline for finding a teammate for solo members is getting pretty close." He said. "As for your lack of fighting skills, that can easily be fixed. There's a dojo in the town center, where a lot of guild members go to work on their fighting skills. The last time I was there, I thought I saw a Gardevoir that happened to be a trainer there. She could teach you a few moves, and hone your skills."
My gaze never lifted from the ground as I thought about the offer. I still wasn't quite sure about the situation, but I had no other leads or ideas to go off of. If I was going to live in this world, I would need a job to support myself.
I slowly nodded, looking up at the Lucario in front of me. "I-I'll join your team then." I stuttered out, a little nervous about the idea of chasing criminals for the time being. "If you're really sure that I can get better." I added.
Asher gave me a wide grin and placed a paw on my shoulder. "Glad to hear it." He said, nodding down at me. "We should probably head to the dojo first. To see what you're capable of first" he winked.
I gulped nervously and nodded. As we headed over to the dojo to start my training, I couldn't help but feel a small sense of relief. At least now, I had some idea of what I could expect in the coming days as a Gardevoir. Provided Asher didn't regret his offer after seeing me train.
A very short Chapter this time! I'm so sorry for the long gap between chapters 3 and 4. I had every intention of putting this out here much sooner, with more content added to this chapter. But work and life kinda got in my way, so I was forced to take a small break from the fanfic.
The next chapter will be longer, and if time allows it, out within the next week. Again, so sorry for the small chapter, and the wait for this. I just wanted to get this out here as soon as I possibly could~!
