Jackal-Rabbit Drabbles

Drabble Pack 4!

16. Hug

Lucario stood anxiously a distance away from Cinderace. The rabbit had his back to him, and was practicing kicking up pebbles into Pyro Balls, trying to break his kick-up record. A small part of Lucario's mind acknowledged Ace's skill, but most of his thoughts were occupied with quandary of how he was going to go forward with his plan.

Lucario sighed and muttered, "How am I supposed to do this?"

Lucario looked around aimlessly, and he just happened to spot one his teammates flying loop-de-loops in the air. This gave Lucario an idea, and he called out, "Dragonite! Dragonite! Come on down!"

The friendly Dragon-type heard Lucario's call and promptly swooped down and landed in front of him. He smiled and said, "What can I do for you, teammate?"

Lucario couldn't help but smile at Dragonite's helpful and caring attitude, and he said, "Can you keep what I'm going to ask you a secret?"

Dragonite made a zipping motion across his mouth and said, "Yes, and I'll do whatever I can to help you."

Lucario nodded and said slowly, "Well. . .I . . ." He paused mid sentence, and Dragonite patiently waited for Lucario to continue.

"Dragonite won't laugh at me or make any remarks," Lucario thought, then he took a breath and said, ". . .I just. . . I want to give Ace a hug."

Dragonite was delighted to hear this and said, "Good! Go for it, Lucario!"

Lucario huffed and said, "You don't get it. That's just not the way I am. Giving random hugs is your thing, and sometimes Cinderace's thing. It's not my thing."

Dragonite shrugged and said, "Well then, try something new. I mean, you just said you wanted to."

"But I don't know how to go about it," Lucario grumbled, frustration in his eyes, "Sure, anyone can give a hug. That's simple. And I just have this urge to just give him a nice gesture to show that we're good friends. Something on his level. . . . But I'm just not the soft type. What I value most is strength, determination, and focus. Being all sensitive and talking about feelings. . .it's hard for me."

Dragonite gently placed a large paw on Lucario's shoulder and said with a smile, "I think there's more to ya than that. Something in you wants to give your buddy a hug, after all. And there was that time you and him talked after Ash told you both about what happened at the Tree of Beginning."

Lucario nodded slowly, "I suppose you're right. But I don't know about just walking over to him hugging him. It's just doesn't feel like. . .me."

Dragonite removed his paw from Lucario shoulder and said, "Well then, how about a sneak attack hug?"

"What?"

"Sneak up on him and hug him from behind," Dragonite suggested, "Then it'll be like you're strategically using a move on him and catching him off guard. That sounds more like you, doesn't it?"

Lucario thought on this for a moment, then he slowly nodded his head and said, "Yes. . .Yes, that does sound good. That could work. Definitely."

Dragonite smiled broadly and gave Lucario a thumbs up. "Well then, good luck!" he said, and he flew off, leaving Lucario to it.

Lucario focused his attention on Cinderace, who was still kicking a Pyro Ball up and down, his back still facing him. The jackal dropped to all fours and slowly made his was towards the bunny, stalking him like he was his prey. Lucario couldn't help but smirk as he mentally made notes of how foolishly unaware of his surroundings Ace was. It didn't take too long for Lucario to get within pouncing range. Lucario steadied his body, then tensed himself up for the pounce. His tail swished back and forth twice, and then, he sprang.

Unfortunate, Cinderace concentration on his Pyro Ball has faltered and he messed up his kicking steak, causing it to bounce off of his foot an angle rather than straight up. Rather than let the Pyro Ball, fall, Cinderace decided to make something cool out of it. So, he spun around after the Pyro Ball to kick it right behind him. Thus, the attack struck Lucario right in the chest and blasted him into the ground.

Lucario fought to regain the wind that was knocked right out of him as he laid flat on his back. He could then hear Ace's panicked cries as he ran towards him.

"Ohmigosh! Ohmigosh! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, Luc? Are you okay? Luc! Speak to me!"

Lucario finally caught his breath and sat up straight, nodding to the distraught bunny and said, "It's okay, Ace. I'm fine. I've taken far more damage than that. And it's my fault for sneaking up on you in the first place.

Ace skidded to a halt inches away from Lucario and then sat down on the grass in front of him. "Okay. . .but. . .why were you sneaking up on me?" he asked, not in an accusatory tone, but more out of innocent curiosity and slight confusion.

Lucario's cheeks were red with embarrassment. However, this didn't lessen his desire to give the bunny a hug. In fact, the way Ace was so concerned and worried for him, and slightly guilty for accidentally hitting him with a Pyro Ball, only made Lucario want to hug him even more. And so, deciding that things had gone on for long enough, Lucario simply reached out and grabbed the Cinderace in a tight hug, resting his head on the bunny's left shoulder.

Cinderace blinked in surprise. "Woah. Is this a hug?" he asked dumbly, then he smiled a buck-toothed grin and said, "I accept!" He wrapped his arms tightly around Lucario and said, "See? Hugs are really cool, aren't they?"

". . .Actually, they're warm," Lucario said with a contented smile with just a hint of smugness.

17. Kick

Lucario tossed a football up and down in his paws. He showed it to Cinderace and said, "Come on, Ace. I'll hold the ball on the ground and you kick it."

Cinderace smiled and said, "Okay! Just watch! I'll send it into outer space!"

As Cinderace ran off a few yards away for a good running start, Lucario knelt down onto the grass and held the football up with one paw. However, much to his surprise, the ball was suddenly pulled away from him and started floating in the air.

Lucario's eyes widened, "What? How-? Wait, is that you, Drizzile?"

Sure enough, Drizzile's camouflage wore off, and he stood frowning at Lucario as he held the football in his paws. "I'm stopping this right now," he said with certainty.

Cinderace ran back over and said, "What's going on, Drizzile? Don't you want to see me kick that football at least a thousand miles?"

Drizzile continued to frown and shake his head, "You're way too optimistic, Cinderace. Also, can't you see what Lucario is trying to do? Obviously, he plans to pull the ball away so you'll land flat on your back and kill yourself."

Lucario's eyes widened again, this time in insult. "WHAT!? I would never do a thing like that! Especially not to one of my friends!"

Cinderace nodded in agreement and said, "Yeah, Drizzile. There's no way Luc would do that to me. You're worrying over nothing. So, you can go ahead and give him the ball back. Go on."

Drizzile sighed and said, "Oh well. Don't say I didn't warn you. . ."

Drizzile handed the football back to Lucario, and he held it in place for Cinderace to kick. The rabbit returned to his starting position, and after exchanging a nod with Lucario, he dashed forward at top speeds. Then, with one mighty Blaze Kick, he sent the football flying into the air. The ball spun and whirled out and over the field before them, landing a great distance away with a puff of dirt and dust.

"AWESOME!" Cinderace cheered.

Drizzile let out a sigh and said, "Oh well. . .I guess I was wrong. . .again. I really am an idiot. . ."

Just as Drizzile used his camouflage to disappear, Goh's Darmanitan arrived on the scene and laughed at Cinderace. "AH-HA-HA-HOO-HOO-HAAAH! That was WEAK! I could out kick you any day of the week!"

Cinderace glared at Darmanitan and said, "Oh yeah? Prove it! Go ahead!"

Within moments, Lucario once again was holding the ball, only this time it was Darmanitan at the starting position. Darmanitan took a moment to flex his arms and showboat a bit, then he dashed towards the football. However, when he kicked out at the football, his foot met nothing and the force of the kick sent him flying into the air.

"AAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGHHHH!" Darmanitan shouted as he flipped in midair, and then landed hard on his backside with a loud thump several feet away. He laid there for a moment, only to then go back into his stone Zen Mode.

Cinderace stared at Lucario in shock and disbelief, but the jackal shook his head furiously and said, "No, no, no! I didn't pull it away, I swear! I don't know-."

"Shhhhhhhh. . ."

Cinderace and Lucario turned to see the football floating in mid air right in front of them. Then it fell the ground with a soft thump.

Cinderace smiled and said, "Well played, little bro. Well played."

18. Spicy

Lucario held the Figy Berry in his paws, taking in the very odd shape. It almost looked like a fiery bottle, with a long stem with a rounded top leading down to a wide bottom. The orange markings on the yellow berry looked like flames, hinting at its spicy nature.

Cinderace was bent over slightly as he pumped his fists, eagerly smiling toothily at Lucario as he egged him on. "C'mon, Luc! Let's see ya eat that Figy berry whole!"

Lucario frowned, a look of uncertainty on his face. It was just his luck that Ash would find one in a berry tree. "Well, maybe this isn't-."

"Go, Lucario, go! Go, Lucario, go!" Cinderace chanted, "You said you could do it and I believe in you!"

Hearing Ace say this made it very difficult for Lucario to consider backing out. Then when he looked up at Ace's eager face and excited eyes, Lucario knew that he wasn't about to let the rabbit down.

And so, after taking a deep breath and focusing his Aura to center and steel himself, Lucario opened wide and shoved the Figy berry in his mouth. Lucario chewed it as fast as he dared lest he bite his tongue, and then quickly swallowed.

"Maybe I got lucky an it was a mild one?" Lucario thought when he initially felt nothing, but the very second after that thought the spiciness erupted in his mouth. Lucario's eyes went wide and teary as he threw his head back and roared out in pain, flames comically shooting out of his mouth as he stood flailing his arms. His tail stood up and out perfectly straight, as did his Aura sensors. Eventually, he stopped flailing his arms, only so he could grab the tops of his ears and pull hard as he continued to roar out fiery pain.

This went on for a few moments until Lucario was finally able to close his mouth and breath normally. He sunk down onto his knees as in inhaled through his nose and exhaled through his mouth, slowly letting of of his ears and using his paws to rub at his eyes. Once he had pulled himself together, he looked up at Cinderace, who was sweatdropping as he rubbed the back of his head with right paw.

"So, uh," Ace asked awkwardly, "How'd it taste?"

Lucario was still slightly out of it, yet there were still enough parts of his brain that weren't still screaming about fire and pain for him to give a witty reply of, "Like your feet."

Several hours later, as the group was laying down for a good night's rest, Ace suddenly sat up, his ears sticking up as well as he exclaimed in realization, "OH! I get it! Cause of the spicy heat and the fire and my Blaze Kick and where my fire comes from and stu-."

The bunny was knocked back by a pillow to the face, and Lucario shouted irately, "How about you eat this pillow and go to sleep!"

19. Toy

Goh held up the Poke Toy and stared at it. "I don't really know why I bought this," he said, clearly showing signs of buyer remorse.

Ash studied the bell and feather on a stick and said, "Well, what's it for."

Goh shrugged and replied, "Pokemon are supposed to like it, I guess." Goh then shook the Poke Toy around a bit, and the sound of the jingling bell was quite pleasant. Goh still frowned in disappointment though and said, "Ugh! I got ripped off! This thing isn't anything special. What Pokemon would even be interested in-?"

Goh was cut off by the sound of running footsteps approaching him and Ash. The Trainers turned to see Lucario and Cinderace rush over to them, their eyes wide and lazer focused on the Poke Toy in Goh's hand.

". . .I want it," Cinderace said as he reached for the toy with his right paw.

". . .I need it," Lucario said reverently as he rubbed his paws together.

Goh and Ash exchanged glances, then Goh turned back to the two Pokemon and began slowly swinging the Poke Toy to the left and to the right. Lucario and Cinderace moved their heads to follow the toy, not taking their eyes off of it for a second. The two of them were smiling wildly, and both of their tails were in motion.

"Okay. . .so it does work," Goh remarked, then he turned to Ash and said, "What do I do now?"

Ash blinked, then he said, "I guess you just. . . shake it around so they can hear the bell?"

It sounded weird to Goh, but he decided to just go with and did just that.

Cinderace jogged in place and Lucario got in a fighting stance, the two of them made more excited by the movement of the feather and the ringing of the bell.

"I'm gonna get it. . .I'm gonna get it. . ." Cinderace said eagerly.

"It will not escape me," Lucario declared resolutely.

And then, Cinderace kicked and Lucario punched. The two of them were aiming at the Poke Toy, but it was a very small target. So, predictably, they ended up hitting the one holding the Poke Toy.

"AAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Goh cried out as the combined power of the two Pokemon sent him blasting off into the sky, where he disappeared in a twinkle of light.

Lucario and Cinderace blinked their eyes and stopped moving. Then they turned to each other and exchanged glances.

". . .Luc? What just happened?" Cinderace asked.

Lucario frowned and said, "I. . .don't know, Ace. What have we been doing?"

Cinderace then turned to see Ash sitting with a dumbstruck expression on his face. Cinderace own expression was that of confusion, and he pointed to where he could've sworn his Trainer was sitting just a moment ago and asked, "Where's Goh?"

Ash couldn't understand Cinderace, but he could easily tell when the bunny was asking him. Ash then turned to an approaching Pikachu, who had witnessed the whole scene from afar, and asked, "Do you wanna tell them or do you want me to?"

Pikachu fell down hard and groaned, "Is there no end?"

20. Kiss

Cinderace and Goh had one another hard fought battle. Upon their victory, the pair ran towards each other and shared a victory hug. Ash and his team watched from the sidelines, of course. Lucario had paid close attention to his favorite battle partner's battling, and was very proud of the bunny.

However, Lucario was caught off guard when Cinderace planted quick kiss on Goh's cheek.

Goh looked to be surprised by the act as well, but quickly took it in stride and said with a chuckle, "Heh-hah! Aww, sweet! Thanks Cinderace!" He then hugged the bunny all the tighter as the pair rubbed cheeks and blushed as they had several times before.

Some time after, as all the Pokemon were eating, Lucario approached the bunny and asked, "Ace, why did you kiss Goh on the cheek?"

Ace swallowed a mouthful of Pokemon food and shrugged, "Why not?"

Lucario frowned, getting rather impatient, as the question had been gnawing at him ever since he witnessed the action earlier. "That doesn't answer my question," he said rather severely.

Ace pouted at this, his cheeks growing red as he replied, "Why're you being so mean? You're acting like I kissed him on the-."

"Nonononono! Don't even say it!" Lucario shouted as he held out a paw for Ace to stop.

Ace cracked a smile, then continued, "It's not like I licked his nose or anything. The way I figure it, a quick peck on the cheek means 'I like you. You're important to me. I appreciate you. I think you're great. Let's stay close.' I mean, as long as you know the one you're pecking."

Lucario mulled it over, and he could find no fault in the Cinderace's reasoning. "You're right. Sorry for making something out ot nothing," Lucario apologized.

Ace's grinned and said, "Hey, you should try it with Ash!"

"No," Lucario said flatly.

"Aw, come on!" Cinderace groused, then he leaned forward a bit and said, "Don't you want Ash to know how much you care about him and appreciate him?"

"He already knows," Lucario said with certainty.

"Sure, yeah, he does, he does. Just like how Goh already knows, I'm sure," Cinderace admitted, then he smiled with innocent glee and asked, "But don't you still want to be able to show him in a way that he can feel?"

Lucario found himself a bit dumbfounded by all this. Ace was making a very good point. It just goes to show that in spite of all of Ace's faults, he wasn't at all stupid. Lucario did not see himself as the touchy feely type. However, this conversation was putting things in perspective for him and causing him to think things over.

Later that night, as everyone was getting ready for bed, Lucario approached Ash, who smiled and scratched the Pokemon behind the ears.

"Goodnight, Lucario. See ya bright an early for more training," Ash said happily.

Ash's happiness was clearly infectious, as Lucario smiled and his tail began to wag. Remembering Ace's words from earlier, Lucario made a decision, but chose to do it his way. He leaned over and quickly licked Ash's cheek.

Ash blinked, seemingly caught in a daze by this. Lucario watched nervously, waiting for his Trainer's response. "Woah," Ash finally said, then smiled boyishly and said, "Thanks!"

Lucario smiled back and nodded, and Ash walked off to turn in for the night, Lucario turned to do the same. However, Lucario found Pikachu standing in his path. Pikachu frowned and said, "So now you're literally kissing up to him?"

"Shut-up."
