Jackal-Rabbit Drabbles

Drabble Pack 5!

21. Ears

From a distance, Lucario watched as Cinderace practiced his Pyro Ball attack. Again and again, the rabbit went through the motions of kicking up a pebble and coating it in a fire, kicking up over and over until it was big enough to launch. Each attack scored a direct his on Ace's target, a large boulder several yards away. Ace concluded with a full on backflip-kick that sent the Pyro Ball careening towards the boulder. The force of the attack caused the large rock to crack right down the middle.

Ace cheered in triumph and did a victory slide on his knees, throwing his arms up in the air victoriously.

Lucario huffed and shook his head as he looked away. Then he muttered, "Sure. . .excellent job, Ace. You managed to attack a very large, non-moving rock a few times. No moves or attacks coming your way, no obstacles, not even a time limit. Of all the pointless things to cheer and grandstand about. . . He just looks so silly and kinda dumb in that ridiculous pose-."

A Pyro Ball suddenly crashed into the ground inches from Lucario's feet, causing him to stumble backwards and stare wide eyed at the patch of scorched earth. Lucario looked up to see Ace dashing towards him. The rabbit skidded to halt in front of Lucario and pointed an accusing paw at him.

"I heard that, Luc!" Ace said decisively.

"I didn't say anything," Lucario muttered defensively, "Besides, you were all the way over there."

Ace just smiled and pointed up at his ears.

". . . oh," was all Lucario could say.

22. Nose

"You might have good ears, but my senses outrank yours in other ways," Lucario said proudly.

Ace rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, I know about your Aura powers. But those don't count!"

Lucario shook his head and said, "No, I was talking about this." Lucario then tapped the tip of his nose with forepaw and said, "My sense of smell surpasses your giant ears."

The rabbit grinned toothily at Lucario and challenged, "Prove it!"

Lucario closed his eyes in thought, then nodded and said, "I think there's a jar of peanut butter in the supplies. Grab it, loosen the cap, and hide it somewhere. Let me know when it's hidden."

Ace cocked his head at Lucario and asked, "So. . .you're just gonna stand there with your eyes closed. . . ?"

Lucario simply nodded.

One thing led to another, and Lucario ended up quickly retrieving the jar peanut butter in less than a minute, all with his eyes closed and his Aura sensors not active.

"I told you so," Lucario, still with his eyes closed and giving a small satisfied smile.

Ace pouted, then his ears perked up as an idea came to him. "Keep those eyes closed, Luc," he said with a smirk, "'Cause I bet you won't be able to tell what this thing is just by its smell."

"What thing?"

"No hints, just get ready," Ace said with his buck toothed grin.

"Fine."

"You're gonna need to really smell it."

"Okay."

"Smell it really hard!"

"Okay."

"Keep your eyes closed!"

"Just do it!" Lucario said impatiently.

Ace's cheeks were rosy as his smile nearly split his face. Stepping close to Lucario, Ace raised his right leg with the intention of pressing his foot right onto Lucario's nose. However, he never go to subject Lucario to this prank, as the jackal grabbed him by the ankle and tossed right over his shoulder.

As Ace lay flat on his face, Lucario opened his eyes and sighed, sounding almost disappointed, "I knew you were going to do that. I know you too well, Ace. Do better next time."

23. Jacuzzi

Lucario and Cinderace sat side by side in a pool of water amid the rocky, mountainous terrain. The water was warm and bubbling wildly, constantly moving and circulating heat into the pair's bodies.

The pair leaned back on the edges of the pool, eyes closed as they enjoyed the warm bath.

Lucario folded his arms behind his head as he leant back and indulged in the luxurious experience. "This is a very good day," he sighed.

"Mm-hm," Cinderace said with a smile on his face. Then he opened his eyes and said, "Good time. Let's get lunch."

Ace sat up and was about to get out of the pool when Lucario suddenly grabbed his left arm, holding him in the pool.

"Don't go. . ." Lucario said softly, his eyes opened and pleading.

Ace blinked pulled his arm back and said, "Sorry, Luc. I'm gonna go now."

"But I need you here," Lucario urged, gripping Ace's arm a bit tighter, "Don't go."

Ace rolled his eyes and said, "C'mon, Luc. I'm getting pruney. We've been here long enough."

Lucario made his eyes big and said, "Just a little more time. My muscles need more of this. Please, buddy?"

Ace blinked his eyes as he beheld Lucario's puppy dog eyes, then he yet out a sigh and said, "Okay . . ."

Lucario smiled warmly, and his grip on Ace's arm loosened.

"Psyche!" Ace shouted as he broke away and lept out of the pool. His feet left scorched footprints behind as he ran off shouting, "Can't let you get addicted, Luc!"

"Wait!" Lucario moaned as he reached out in vain to the fleeing rabbit. Immediately, the bubbles in the pool stopped as the water quickly became still. The once hot water quickly became luke warm and still, much to Lucario dismay. Lucario huffed as he quickly stood up and got out of the rapidly cooling water.

"At least his feet are good for something," Lucario remarked as he proceeded to shake his legs and tail dry.

24. Trancing

Lucario jumped out of the bushes and tackled into Cinderace. The rabbit was thrown flat on his back as Lucario pinned him down by his arms.

"Gotcha," Lucario said with a smirk, "You need to be more aware of your surroundings, Ace!"

Strangely, Ace didn't reply to this. In fact, the rabbit simply laid flat on his back, eyes closed and mouth hanging open.

Confused, Lucario cocked his head and asked, "Ace? You okay? Ace?"

Lucario poked Ace in the cheek, even going so far as to pinch and pull it a bit. Lucario frowned and slapped Ace on the face a bit, saying loudly, "Ace? Wake up. Wake up! All I did was tackle you. How could that knock you out? Wake up!"

When Ace still didn't respond, Lucario grabbed him by the ears and pulled his head up. He let go, and the rabbit's head fell back limply.

"Wh-what?" Lucario gasped, and he grabbed hold of Ace's ears again, only for a sinking feeling to strike his heart. "Your ears are so cold," Lucario whispered. As a Fire-type, Ace was always so warm, so him not having that constant heat was greatly disturbing. Lucario then leaned in close so that his ear was next to Ace's open mouth. The sinking feeling was then replaced by an icy claw.

"You're not breathing. . ." Lucario gasped with widened eyes of horror, then he grabbed Ace's shoulders and shook him wildly. "No! No! That's impossible! This can't be! Ace! Wake up! Come back! Ace!"

Tears ran down his face as Lucario pulled Ace into a tight hug and whimpered, "Please, Ace. Don't leave me. You're my best friend and the greatest battle partner I could ever ask for. You're funny and good and happy and everything. You're the cure to my bad temper! What am I gonna do without you?! I care about you so much!"

"Boo," whispered a voice in Lucario's ear.

Lucario cried out in shock as he let go and jumped away from the rabbit, who was sitting up and smiling, very much alive.

"Wha-?" Lucario shouted, his heart pounding and eyes even wider, still wet with tears, "But how!? You. . . cold! Not breathing! What!?"

Ace continued to smile as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, "Heh-heh. . .well, rabbits can play dead really well. Some call it trancing, but I just call it playing dead. Sorry about that. I didn't mean to scare or hurt you that badly." Ace stopped rubbing his head and fiddled with his paws a bit, a blush forming on his cheeks as he said, "I mean. . .I really care about you, too."

Lucario stood breathing heavily at Ace, then huffed and wiped the tears off his face. "Well, dogs can play dead too. I can even quash my own aura to make it even more convincing," Lucario grumbled in embarrassment. Then he widened his eyes and clutched his chest with his right paw. "Urk! Heart attack! I'm dying! Urk!" he grunted forcibly, then he staggered backwards on shaking legs, then spun around once before collapsing on the ground.

Ace sweatdropped at first, but then sighed and said, "Alright, nice one, I guess." He then took a look at Lucario lying on his side and cracked a smile, "You look comfy. I'll join you! Time to flop!"

Ace hopped over to Lucario and threw his head to one side and quickly flung his body down onto the ground next to his best friend.

25. Breakout (TalosLives)

Lucario and Cinderace finally collapsed onto the floor of their cell, breathing heavily after their assault on the three walls, ceiling, floor, and bars that boxed them in.

"This place is inescapable!" Cinderace gasped out, "None of our moves work!"

Lucario stared up at the red glowing lamp embedded in the ceiling. "That ray keeps absorbing the power of our moves. We can't use them to break out."

Cinderace groaned as he grabbed his ears and pulled them over his eyes, "Urrr. . .why did have to get caught by those Pokemon poachers! Why couldn't we have gotten caught by Team Rocket instead! We would have already blasted them off and escaped by now!"

Lucario sat up and said, "Well, we didn't get caught by Team Rocket. So we need an actual plan to get out of here!"

Cinderace pouted as he sat up with his feet together and ears hanging low. "Those jerks want us to work for them, digging in mines and stuff. There's no way we're gonna do that for them!"

Lucario stood up and began pacing back and forth. "Well. . .we don't have much of a choice, do we? We can't escape, and those poachers have handheld versions of that move draining ray right above us, so what can we do?"

Ace put a paw to his chin and said, "Well . . . maybe if we couldn't work. . ." Ace's eyes widened, and he grinned and said, "Oh! I got it! We play dead!"

Lucario stopped pacing and stared at Ace in confusion, "Play dead?"

Ace nodded and said, "We can't work and slave if we're dead! They'll have to toss our bodies out, and after that, we can escape and get help! And with your Aura quashing and my trancing, we can fool them!"

Lucario frowned as he thought about it. "Well . . ." he began, but he was cut off by the sound of a door opening down the corridor their cell was connected to.

"Here they come! Play dead!" Ace said quickly, and he fell flat onto his back and went limp.

Seeing no other option and pressed for time, Lucario fell down as well and forced his Aura to lower in intensity, which in turn made his breathing, heart rate, and body temperature just as low as the tranced Cinderace next to him.

The pair of friends could hear and feel the poachers as they felt their bodies and complained at the loss of two strong Pokemon. The pair were then carried off and dumped down into a chute of some kind. After landing at the bottom, the pair of them opened their eyes and looked around the metal chamber they had landed in. It was filled with various types of trash, not that it bothered them at the moment.

"We're free! We're free!" Ace shouted excitedly as he jumped up and down with his arms raised high.

Lucario smiled and said, "Your idea worked, Ace. Great job."

Suddenly, a loud clicking sound could be heard. This was followed by a loud roar of rushing wind, which was very warm, almost scorching.

Lucario and Ace exchanged glances, then they both shouted with white wide round eyes of panic, "WE'RE IN A FURNACE!"

The pair ran in opposite directions and began pounding on the walls of the furnace, desperately searching for a way out.

"I FOUND A DOOR!" Cinderace shouted over the roar of the furnace.

Lucario turned around and saw Cinderace kicking open a small door in the wall. Lucario quickly ran towards it, only for his feet to sink into the garbage, causing him to trip and fall. As Lucario desperately tried to get up, he felt Cinderace grab him by the arm, hoist him up, and fling him towards the door. Lucario quickly crawled forwards towards the exit, and reached it just as a blast of fire launched him out of the furnace.

Lucario rolled over and looked in horror as fire spewed out of the furnace door.

"CINDERACE!" Lucario exclaimed in despair.

Ace casually climbed out of the furnace and brushed some soot off of his shoulders and burned trash off of his legs. He smiled at Lucario and asked, "What?"

Lucario blinked, then nodded and said, "Oh. Fire-type. Of course."

Ace nodded, "Right! C'mon! Let's get out of here and find Ash and Goh, or at least an Officer Jenny!"

The pair of successful escapees then ran up a set of stairs, burst through a door, and ran off to help foil the Pokemon poachers' evil plans.
