Neo-Spacian Yubel

Acceptance! Yubel's New Home

"So, should we ready a second satellite for the kid's Yubel card?"

"That's ridiculous. A single card basically weighs nothing. Just put it in the satellite with the rest of the winner's drawings."

"Hmm, I guess you're right. It would be a waste of time and money to make a second one, even if we can afford it with no problem. Besides, it's not like it'll make any huge life-changing differences."

There is a dimension that exists in our universe, let at the same time not in our universe. It runs tangent to human reality, and phases in and out through the vastness of outer space. This world of extraterrestrial Duel Spirits is known as Neo Space, and at certain times, some of the planets that float within this dimension orbit around the massive planet of Jupiter, where the border between the human realm and Neo Space is thinnest.

On one of these planets, a hero awoke. Standing proudly and heroically, hew was a muscular figure that was every inch a superhero. He opened his eyes and beheld 6 more Duel Monster Spirits that approached him.

Out of the water leapt Aqua Dolphin, from the sky descended Air Hummingbird, out of the ground erupted Grand Mole, out of the nearby woods came Flare Scarab and Dark Panther, and then Glow Moss appeared in a flash of light.

Aqua Dolphin smiled at his companions and said, "Ah yes, good. Everyone is here." Aqua then nodded to Elemental Hero Neos and said, "Jaden has finally called us all together."

"Indeed," Elemental Hero Neos replied, "The cards he created have become real through the power of Neo Space. All that remains is for us to wait for him to acquire those cards, so that we may aid him in his fight against the Light of Destruction."

"Hear-hear!" Grand Mole cheered jovially, raising a giant digging claw up high.

The rest of the Neo-Spacians all voiced their approval and agreement in their own ways, feelings of satisfaction ad comradery rising high. However, a damper was put upon their good feelings by the sound of someone sniffling and crying nearby.

Dark Panther was the first to notice the sound, and his ears twitched in its general direction. He turned and pointed into the shadows of the nearby trees and said, "There. . ."

The group approached the weeping, and Glow Moss' light illuminated the source of the sound. It was feminine Fiend, humanoid in shape, albeit with a pair of large black wings she used to hide her face and most of her body from view. She had sickly-pink skin, and her feet and hands featured sharp claws. It was quite the bizarre sight to see a very capable looking draconic Fiend in such a vulnerable and pitiful state. Therefore, the Neo-Spacians found themselves unable to proceed in this awkward position.

Eventually, Aqua turned to the Neo-Spacian of Darkness and said, "Perhaps. . .you might have the best luck in approaching our. . .guest."

"Because she's most likely a fellow Dark-Attribute, I dig it," the cat said in his gravely voice, and he swished his tail back and forth and said, "Well then, lets see what's what, or who's who, rather."

Dark Panther slowly approached the crying Fiend, and then carefully leaned forward and said, "Hey lady, mind tellin' me what's with all the waterworks?"

To the cat's credit, the Fiend did pause in her crying, but she still hid beneath her wings as she remained on her knees.

Encourage by this, Dark Panther continued, "I'll tell it to you like it is, crying never solved anyone's problems. 'Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone.' Ya dig?"

". . . . I failed him."

The Fiend's voice confirmed her femininity, and it also had a mystical echoing quality to it. However, it was very sad and quiet, not to mention muffled by her wings.

Dark Panther thought for a moment, then he said, "Failure's in the eye of the beholder, you know. But how about you look me in the eye and say that. C'mon."

Miraculously, or perhaps because she felt it would make no difference at this point, the Fiend folded back her wings revealing her head and face. Her hair was wild and seemingly split in half, with her right side being white and her left side being a purplish-blue. What's more, her right eye was orange, white her left eye was emerald green; and right in the middle of her forehead was a third vertical red eye.

Dark Panther cracked a smile and quipped, "Well, aren't you a looker. But I don't think that has much to do with you being so blue. So, what's all this noise about you failing someone?"

For a moment it looked as though the Fiend would lash out at him, but instead she fell back into gloom and said, "I was supposed to protect him. . .to keep him safe. . .to always be with him so that he could use the Gentle Darkness to fight back against the evil Light. I was never supposed to leave his side. . ."

As the Fiend trailed off for a moment, Elemental Hero Neos stood back and studied the strange Duel Spirit. Then he thought to himself, "As our cards were being formed, I did feel a strange foreign presence. Was she also aboard that satelite?"

The Fiend stared down at the ground and said, "I tried so hard. . . to guard him against all threats to him. . .to us. . . But then he. . . just sent me away."

Her tone became bitter as she spat out venomously, "He told me that I was sick, that someone was wrong with me. That sending me off would fix me. I didn't understand. I didn't believe him. But. . ."

She closed her two main eyes tight as she continued, ". . .but, after coming here, and feeling the energy of this place, I see it now. He was right about me. I wasn't protecting him, I was hurting him. I made it impossible for him to be adored, or to have other friends. What good is a King if he had no subjects. I really thought that I was all he would ever need. . .but I was just so . . .selfish and stupid. He deserved a whole world to explore with me by his side, I couldn't possibly be his entire world. I made him afraid of me! I made others fear and hate him! More enemies! And these cosmic rays of this world, made me see. . ."

"The powers of justice," Neos thought to himself, a pang of sympathy growing within him as he became to understand the full extent of the Fiend's situation.

". . .I hurt him," she moaned out in agony, "I hurt so many people, and none of them really deserved it. It wasn't justice. It wasn't even vengeance. It was just pain for the sake of pain. There was no excuse for what I did, and Jaden knew that. That's why he sent me away. . ."

The Fiend wrapped her arms around herself as she sank to the ground.

"He. . .doesn't love me anymore," she whispered in despair.

The Fiend's tale cut to the heart of all those present. Grand Mole even sniffled and wiped his nose a bit. However, the first to speak up was Air Hummingbird, who pointed a claw at the Fiend and said, "Now, don't you talk like that. I don't believe that the one destined to wield the Gentle Darkness would simply give up on someone they cared about."

The Fiend shook her head and said, "No. After everything I did, how could he still love me?"

Dark Panther suddenly closed the distance between himself and the Fiend, much to her surprise.

"You got a name?" he asked her.

She looked away and replied, "Yubel."

"Okay, then listen to this Yubel," the cat said, then he sat up straight with his cape flowing behind him and recited, "'If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's meant to be.'"

Yubel stared at Dark Panther in confusion.

Panther sighed and said, "Look, I'm not the best at long winded explanations. . ."

Luckily, Aqua came to Panther's rescue and said, "Yubel, you said that Jaden sent you into space to fix your. . . tendencies. If anything, that proves his love for you. He was willing to say goodbye to you for so long just to help you. He saw that you lacked empathy, and that you didn't understand justice, and he found a way to help you understand. He did it for you, so you and him and could stand side by side without having to worry about you losing control. It must have really hurt him to let you go, but he did it out of love. Love for you, Yubel. It won't be long before Jaden reacquires all of our cards, and I am certain that he will be overjoyed to see you again."

Yubel thought on Aqua's words, a look of uncertainty on her face.

Glow Moss waved at Yubel and said eagerly, "Ooh, and you have us for the time being."

Flare Scarab smiled and said, "Of course, we shall keep you company in the time it takes for Jaden to come and find us."

Yubel looked up at the smiling Neo-Spacians. She blinked, then shook her head and said, "It's no use. I'm not one of you."

"That doesn't matter!" Air Hummingbird said, fluttering his wings, "You don't have to be a Neo-Spacian to be our friend and ally. We'll surely be working together once Jaden adds us to his deck. We truly want to help you, and we will, Neo-Spacian or not."

"However. . ." Neos remarked thoughtfully.

Everyone turned to the Elemental Hero as he stood pensively. Then he nodded and motioned for the Neo-Spacians to gather around. There was a whispered conference amongst the monsters. During which Grand Mole let out a loud chuckle and cheered "Wow! I like it!" before being hastily shushed. After that, the group all turned to Yubel, and Neos stepped forward and made his offer.

"Yubel, Air Hummingbird speaks the truth. You need not be a Neo-Spacian to be our ally. We will support you and fight by your side when Jaden goes out to beat back the Light of Destruction," Neos said with great conviction, "However, if you choose to accept, we would be honored to make you an honorary Neo-Spacian."

Yubel gawked up at Neos as the hero held out a hand to her. "But . . . but why?" she gasped out.

Aqua grinned and said, "Why wouldn't we want Jaden's closest friend to be a part of our team? We could certainly use all the help we can get against the Light of Destruction. And aside from all that, we want to be your friends. You understand the threat as much as we do, and you now have the same strong sense of justice as the rest of us. So, considering all of that, will you join us?"

Yubel looked long and hard at the group of welcoming monsters before her. They were all smiles, with the exception of Glow Moss for obvious reasons, although you could see the joy and happiness in the glowing alien's eyes.

Yubel bit her blue lip, looking from between the superhero's outstretched hand and the seven friendly faces several times. Then, after taking a breath, she reached out and grabbed onto Neo's hand.

"Do you promise to fight for justice, to stand strong against the Light of Destruction, to restore and maintain balance between light and darkness, and to protect and aid Jaden in his quest?" Neos asked.

"I will," Yubel said, her eyes glistening with tears.

Neos firmly grabbed Yubel's arms with both hands and shook it once, and he said, "Welcome to the team, Neo-Spacian Yubel."

"Group hug!" Grand Mole shouted, and he ran forward and tackled Yubel in a hug.

Before Yubel even knew what was happening, she was suddenly caught in the middle of said group hug, thoroughly shocked and amazed at what had just happened. However, as she felt Grand Mole's fur on her right side, Dark Panther's fur against her right leg, and the smooth skin of Aqua and Glow Moss and the feathers of Air Hummingbird as well. Flare Scarab flew behind her and patted her on the back, while Neos stood back and watched with a look of satisfaction in his eyes.

And during all this, Yubel felt something. It reminded her of how she felt when she was with Jaden. It was nowhere near as strong, but it was something. And at that moment, as Yubel let out a sigh of relief, she finally felt like she was home.
