Chapter 21: Five Minutes
Chase didn't know where he was.
All the shepherd saw all around him was whiteness. He looked around, trying to find any idea of where he was.
"H-Hello?" Chase's voice echoed strongly, hearing his call over and over which spooked him more. "He-Hey! Whe-where am I?"
He started to get very terrified, as nothing but the echoes of voice filled his ears. He didn't want to move due to how scared he was. But somehow, he willed himself to start walking. He walked and walked, thinking that he was moving, but the endless whiteness gave the illusion that he was only walking in place, not moving anywhere. He stopped moving.
"C-Come on now! This isn't funny!" Chase called out terrified as a skittish deer.
"WHERE AM I?!"
Chase's voice was so loud, it took nearly ten minutes for the echoes to die down. Chase started to whimper as he felt more lonely and trapped. "Come on! Anybody! Please?! Say something!"
Chase's body shook furiously. He had no clue if this was real or his dreadful nightmares. He tried not to, but his feeling of being alone and scared in the void of whiteness he was trapped in, broke him down to tears, as he wept and howled.
"P-Please…...anyone…..talk to me…...I….I'm scared…...I want to go home. Someone please…..HELP ME!"
Nothing
Only echoes filled his ears. He accepted that no one would come save him. He plopped down and sobbed his eyes out. Preparing to possibly spend the rest of his life, crying forever, wanting more than ever, to be in his owner's arms and while Ryder tells him that it will be okay.
Chase
Chase shot his eyes open. His head perked up, snapping his head left and right, looking for the source of his name being called. He quickly rose to his feet, and spun around. Nothing stood in front of him, as the whiteness filled the air as far as his eye could see. "H-Hello!?"
"Chase. Over here. Behind you."
Chase zipped around and spotted Marshall in full gear, staring a hole into the police pup.
Despite all the terror he had gained, the sight of his best friend alive pushed it all away in gracious relief. "M-Marshall. Y-You don't know how glad I am to see you buddy."
The dalmatian said nothing. He continued to stare angrily at him as if Chase had taken a life for no reason. Chase's heart felt cold when he finally noticed the daggers that Marshall was giving him. His smile disintegrated. "Marshall? Marshall, what's wrong?"
After a period of Marshall's angrily and silent stare, He finally spoke with his voice as cold and iced as the north pole. Tears oozed out of his eyes, making his stare hurt even more. "Why did you leave me?"
The unexpected question stung Chase like a million bees. He could hardly answer the dally. "Wha-What? M-Marshall what are you…"
"Don't play dumb with me Chase! You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Marshall shot off, causing Chase to wince away in terror. "You left me to die!"
Chase stared in disbelief. Marshall sounded more angry than the argument they had last week. He started to shake again. "M-M-Marshall…..I'm sorry….but….I had to. I-I couldn't find you in that pile. We-We had to leave you. Please buddy...you have to believe me."
Marshall closed his eyes, with hot streaming tears still leaking out of his eyes. "How can you be my "buddy" Chase. Buddies don't leave their friends to die. Especially if they had a chance!"
Chase got more scared as Marshall got angrier. He cried out to him with scared tears. "Marshall I did want to! Honest! I wanted to find you no matter what happened to me! But I couldn't! I had to get out with Skye, so we can survive! Surely you understand that, right?! Please Marshall! Were brothers, Remember?!"
Marshall's tone may have come down to allow decibel, but the anger was still there. His eyes were still closed as he codly responded. "I have….no brother anymore."
Chase's blood drained out of his body, as Marshall's words sliced him in two. He got closer and closer to bawling on the ground. "Wh...Wh….What?"
The dally lowered his head to his feet, with more of his tears hitting the floor. "Brothers never leave each other. They don't just "give up" on the other. They stay till the very end, like I did for you." Marshall raised his head back up, and glared at Chase in between the eyes. His voice is as icly as ever. "But you…...didn't return the favor. You didn't even have the decency to find me and carry me out of the rubble. You left me Chase. To save yourself." Marshall then lifted his paw halfway, then slammed it down with authority in time with his last statement. "You left me to BURN!"
As soon as his paw slammed down, all the white around him shifted to blazing orange, as Marshall was suddenly engulfed in flames, burning his fur and flesh off slowly as he let out a blood curdling scream.
"MARSHALL!" Chase cried out as he gunned it towards Marshall. The dally's screams haunting Chase's ears. But to his complete horror, Chase wasn't getting any closer. He was instead running in place with a burning Marshall being only five feet in front of him.
The horrid screams from Marshall burst the dam in Chase's eyes, obstructing his view of the burning dalmatian.
"MARSHALL! MARSHALL! MARSHALL! MARSHAAAAAAAAALL!"
It was no use. No matter how hard he ran, Chase never got an inch closer to his scorching friend.
"CHASE! HELP ME! HELP ME! PLEASE MAN, MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOOOOP! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
Marshall's hair-raising screams penetrated Chase like shards of glass. It motivated him more and more to get to him. "MARSHALL! I'M COMING! JUST HOLD ON! I'M COMING I'M COMING!"
No sooner than he said that, Marshall let out one more frightening and chilling sustained scream, rising to his total peak before he was suddenly silenced. Only now, was Chase finally released, and got to Marshall. Only to find the smouldering remains of the dalmatian in the form of a charred body. The smell of burnt flesh stung Chase's nose.
The sight nearly made the shepherd puke. The body was mangled and morphed to all hell, with no fur and little flesh on him, exposing some parts of his burnt skeleton. His jaw was wide open for he had been screaming in pain till the very end. His eyeballs were strangely the only thing left untouched, with his baby blue eyes showing nothing but pain and betrayal.
Chase couldn't take it anymore. Seeing his sworn brother die and burn right in of him, while he was powerless and did nothing was way too much for him to handle.
"N….N….N..No...N-N-N-No." Chase shook out as he stared at Marshall's remains with his heart crushed. "No…..no…...no no no no no no! MAAAAAAAAARSHAAAAAAAAALLLL!"
He collapsed to the ground and screamed everything he had out in the air. He began to bawl on the floor in front of Marshall's remains.
"MARSHALL! MARSHALL! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE YOU! I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE YOU! PLEASE COME BACK! I PROMISE I'LL NEVER EVER LEAVE YOU TO DIE AGAIN! MARSHALL! MARSHALL PLEASE! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARSHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLL! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
"AAAAHHHH!"
Chase screamed out of his sleep like he himself was being burned alive. He gasped for air as he made several attempts to catch his breath. Once he was sure he was breathing regularly, he immediately teared up and started to sob.
Another nightmare, and it was the worst one of them all. Nothing ever came close to the pain and despair he experienced in the dream. Hearing Marshall berate, to be followed by watching him being burned alive to nothing more to an unrecognizable corpse, murdered Chase. To the point where he started to second guess his ever getting out of that building, just so Marshall would be here right now. That's who he needs to talk to right now.
But Marshall wasn't here. Marshall was dead. Dead as he was in his dream. So far away which only made the shepherd cry more.
After a few moments of crying, Chase rose to his feet in his pup house, figuring that he needed to talk to someone. He didn't want to, but he had to. Not because of his pride, but because as painful and gut wrenching it was to recall, there was no way he could hide this one. Especially since he was sure someone heard his horrid scream. Not to mention the others that he let out in his sleep.
Out of all the pups and Ryder, one came to mind, but it was puzzling to him why she was not practically banging on his door, right now. Surly…..she must've heard him scream.
Putting that aside, he decided to go up to Skye herself. He hoped he wouldn't disturb her too much.
Chase stepped outside his puphouse, and was bewildered to see that the entire area was bare and soulless. He looked around and found absolutely no one up. Confused, he looked up at the top of the lookout and found that Ryder's light wasn't even on.
This boggled Chase to no end. It was so quiet as everyone seemed to still be asleep.
Did…..Did no one hear him? How? Chase was sure his screams were loud enough to wake up the entire town. It was very puzzling and admittedly, very disheartening to see this
"Di….did no one here me at all?" Chase mumbled to himself, feeling as lonely as he did in his dream.
He shook it off as he eyed Skye's puphouse, well…...her temporary one. He trotted over to it, knowing that Skye would be the perfect friend to talk to. But…..when he made his way to her opened door, he made a horrible discovery.
The house was completely empty, with no Skye in sight. Only a piece of paper occupied the space in the center. Chase immediately picked it up and started to read it. His heart in his throat, beating at every written word.
To whoever finds this
As you have probably guessed by now, I have made my decision. I can't go on with Paw Patrol. Not just because of Marshall being gone, but because there is no place for me on this team. Without my copter and jetpack, I'm nothing more than a talentless burden on you all. I'm so, so sorry for leaving you all, but I feel that it's the best thing for me. I'm going to find some place where I can be very useful even without flying. To where I don't have to worry of being purposeless and just being another mouth to feed.
None of you ever pushed me to this. I did this with my own volition. So please don't feel that it's your fault, because it's not. I couldn't ask for a better group of friends and a wonderful owner. Especially you Chase. I love you all.
Goodbye to you all and good luck. I hope Marshall isn't crying too much in puppy heaven.
Forever your friend and best pilot...maybe
Skye
When Chase finished reading, his fur turned ghost white. His fear came true.
Skye….ran away.
For the second time that night, Chase collapsed on his belly, and sobbed his eyes out. He didn't care how loud he got.
Skye was gone, and from the looks of it, was never coming back. Chase felt that he was now in another nightmare. But this time, he couldn't wake up.
Despite his heart being shattered to pieces and feeling that the girl of his dreams was gone forever, one pup forced its way into his mind, and it wasn't Skye.
The image of Marshall sitting in front of him and looking at him with determined eyes. He didn't need to say anything to him, Chase knew why he was there.
He not only failed himself and Skye, but he failed Marshall. The promise he made literally went up in smoke. But Chase then realized that wasn't what the dalmatian's message was.
Find her. There's still time
The dalmatian's words filled Chase's mind like he was a deity coming to his aide. He sobbed in response. "No. There isn't. She's gone."
No she's not. She can still be saved Chase.
"I…..I can't."
Come on man. You're really going to give up on your promise now? I thought you would be stronger than that.
Chase suddenly stopped crying and looked up. "But….what can I do? She's probably long gone by now. How will I find her?"
You'll find a way. I know you will.
Then, just as fast as he appeared, the image of Marshall disappeared from his mind.
"Wait. No. Come back! Marshall! Buddy! Come back!"
No use...he was already gone. Like Skye was.
Chase lowered his head sniffled, replaying the mindful message in his brain.
"What did you mean I will find her? There's no telling when she ran. She could be out of Adventure Bay by now. How will I ever find her?" Chase said. He sniffled, having absolutely no hope for the pup he loved more than ever. With nothing left but her sweet scent.
Scent.
Chase's mind suddenly dwelled on that. He sniffed again, and was overwhelmed by her scent that he only missed him more. Then….he realized.
"Oh!" Chase yelped out, as he suddenly sniffled the entire area of the house. "Of course! Why didn't I think of that?! Stupid!"
After a few seconds of furious sniffs, a fresh trail leading right out of the lookout was visible to him.
"Got her!" he called, as he jetted to his pup house.
'Uggh! I don't even know where I'm even going!'
Skye wandered the forest, following the road to Foggy Bottom. She already regretted not taking the temporary vehicle Ryder gave her. But she didn't want to take it from the Paw Patrol, in case they really needed it one day. Yes, her journey would've been less tiring with it, but she didn't have the heart to take it from Ryder. Especially for all he did for her.
While Skye knew what her destination was, she didn't know where it was exactly. All she knew was that it was somewhere in west America. That's why she was heading towards the Foggy Bottom Airport, so she can hitch a ride on a plane to California. After that, it was a mystery to her.
What Skye's target was of course, was wherever her family was at this time. Who could be anywhere on the west coast right now, being that they were stunt dogs in the ever popular dog stunt group, AirDogs, who travel all over the United States, putting on one of the most death defying and popular airshows in the US. "The AirDogs Epic Stunt Spectacular" Featuring many of the world's most talented pilots, hosted by legendary ace, Judy Banks.
Skye's parents, Arion and Swift, along with her twin brother Wings, were top filling in the show. Having been with the group since it's early beginning. Skye herself was also a big part of the group, until about a year ago when she joined the Paw Patrol.
Much of her early life was spent in the air. To the point where it was believed that she and her brother were conceived in the air, but those were just rumors….she hoped.
Skye learned all of her skills from her parents along with her brother. Any trick that she knew, came from them, with some added from her of course. For the first five years of her life, Skye toured all over America yearly. Performing as a part of the quite popular duo, Mighty Wings, with her brother, doing incredible stunts that no dog will ever even try to do, provided that they could fly a plane of course.
Skye and Wings were a promising team, with both having unbelievable potential to be the best dog pilots in the stunt group, maybe even the world, but due to the travels, they never really had a home to go to. Their home was the road, putting on shows forty two times a year, with only a handful of brakes. Skye didn't really mind it too much, except for the fact that other than her brother, it was impossible for her to have any close friends. She did have some friends, but they were scattered about the country. She would only see them one or two times per year, if she was lucky, but she did have friends.
It was ironic that even though she was always with her brother and parents, and various pilots in the group, Skye felt as lonely as the number one. But that all changed one day when they made a stop at Adventure Bay.
Mayor Goodway graciously booked them for an attraction event for the Adventurous Festival, celebrating Adventure Bay's one hundredth birthday, with the AirDogs the main headliner, besides a short ceremony.
It would've gone without a hitch, had Mayor Humdinger not caught the good old jealous bug.
Coincidently, along with Adventure Bay, Foggy Bottom was also celebrating one hundred years since its founding, and he had all the plans for the AirDogs to perform for his city, but thanks to Mayor Goodway getting to them first, and the fact that the AirDog's schedule was as tight as chains, Mayor Humdinger was just plain out of luck. But that of course didn't stop him, since the mayor was as sniveling and corrupted as a two dollar bill, he had many tricks up his sleeves, and he had one crazy trick that only he could come up with.
Since the Paw Patrol had foiled a number of his plans before, he knew that he wasn't going to have much luck sabotaging the city on the ground, but he knew that the Paw Patrol had no pilots at the time, and Chase and Marshall would have a very difficult time doing any job in the air. So he had a plan to sabotage the skies above Adventure Bay.
As talented as they were, the AirDogs had their safety precautions first, and they had a strict policy with the weather and birds. If any of them were in control of the sky, the AirDogs would have no choice but to cancel for safety reasons. No matter how big the paycheck was or how many attendees, the safety of the pilots and fans come first.
The sly Mayor knew that, and was very quick to use the policy to his advantage, and since he couldn't control the weather, that meant that he would have to use birds he gathered from Adventure Bay and Foggy Bottom.
The plan was simple, at just an hour before the show, Mayor Humdinger would employ his loyal men, to stake out at different parts of Adventure Bay, and release the birds, covering the skies with dozens upon dozens of birds, which in turn, force the AirDogs to cancel their show in Adventure Bay, and to go right over to Foggy Bottom to do their show their there, and if they refused, the Mayor would still be happy to know that Adventure Bay would have no show as well.
And that's just what happened, as sure enough, around the time the show would've started, flocks of birds, hawks, and even eagles were released into the air, and flew all around Adventure Bay, leaving no room for the AirDogs to perform. The Paw Patrol easily caught on to the Mayor's scheme, but were completely powerless due to them being grounded. Even if they found some way to clear the sky, it wouldn't be in time, as the AirDogs had only two hours for their show. It seemed like for the first time since the Paw Patrol started, Mayor Humdinger would come out on top and get away with it.
But when all hope seemed lost, and Mayor Humdinger was doing the happiest dance in the world, one crucial solution appeared out of nowhere, in the form of the Mighty Wings themselves…
Wings and Skye.
Against their parent's wishes, and after having to convince them very greatly, the two pups stepped up, and volunteered themselves to round the birds all up, and save the show from being canceled.
Dawning two prototype jet packs Ryder had worked on for months, the Mighty Wings themselves, showcased their full talents to all of Adventure Bay, and the AirDogs themselves. With Chase and Marshall's help, the two pups were able to round up each and every bird in the skies, and sent them on their merry way towards Foggy Bottom as a very special gift for it's one hundredth anniversary. All in the matter of thirty minutes, which impressed Ryder greatly.
Thanks to Skye and Wings's efforts, the AirDogs were able to put on a full length show for the city, aweing everyone in attendance, and caused Mayor Humdinger to throw a temper tantrum with birds all over him.
After the show was over, the stunt group tore down their show, and said their goodbyes to everyone in Adventure Bay, so they could make the next show in Oregon.
Before they could though, Ryder offered a spot on the Paw Patrol to Wings and Skye, thanks to his impressed mind. Wings of course respectfully declined the offer, stating that his destiny was in the AirDogs and his family's legacy, but Skye…...accepted.
To the bewilderment of her parents and the dismay of her brother, Skye opted to stay with Ryder, and use her talents to help anyone who needed it most. She also admitted to them that even though she loved her family and being a stunt pup, she felt happier staying in Adventure Bay with her new friends, and claimed that it was her destiny.
Wings overly objected to the idea, not wanting to say goodbye to his sister. However, Arion and Swift fully supported Skye's decision, wanting their daughter to be fully happy with her life, and agreed to her using her talents for good.
With her parents blessing, and Wings finally caving in, Skye was made the fourth member of Paw Patrol, and adopted by Ryder's dad, who happened to be in town for the festivities.
The AirDogs then said their goodbyes and made it a point to add Adventure Bay to their yearly schedule. Especially since Skye was now a member of Paw Patrol.
Well now, was a member of Paw Patrol, but as of this moment, she no longer was, as she was now walking to Foggy Bottom Airport to make her way back to her parents, with the AirDogs…..if she could find them.
Thankfully, they shouldn't be too hard to find. Skye knew their schedule like the back of her paw, and she knew around this time of the year, they would be making their rounds around the west coast. Skye wished she could at least call them, but she left her pup tag at the lookout, knowing that Ryder had tracking devices in all their tags.
For the first time since before she joined the Paw Patrol, Skye felt true loneliness. She was on her own from then out, until she could establish contact with her parents. She wanted to go back to the lookout and forget this entire thing, but she couldn't. She was no use to the Paw Patrol now. Even if Ryder were to repair her pup pack and her copter which was taking forever, later on down the line, she would just crash again and wind up right back at square one. She had not flown for weeks at this point, besides a flight test that went wrong as soon as she started to have fun again, crushing all hope of her being able to fly again in Paw Patrol.
At least with the AirDogs, she would have some hopes of using her talents even if she crashed, thanks to the back up planes, provided that she was not hurt of course. It wasn't a for sure for sure solution, but it was a better chance then in the Paw Patrol which tore on her. She wouldn't see her friends ever again, to include Chase, which broke her heart in two.
Upon a few more meters of walking, Skye's ears caught the faint sound of an engine, getting closer and closer. Lights then appear to illuminate around her, as she turns around to see what it was. Then, she realized who it was.
'Speak of the pup and he will always show.'
While Skye was not happy of the police pup's arrival, she couldn't help but feel her heart being warmed that he was here.
Chase finally stopped the car a few meters from her, being sure to angle his car away from her, so it was not blinding her eyes. He jumped out of the car and gave a huge sigh of relief that he found her in time.
Skye smiled a little at the pup. "It doesn't surprise me at all that you would find me."
Chase couldn't help but grin himself. "Well you sorta made it too easy for me. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you wanted me to find you."
Skye averted her eyes, while her smile faded. She fidgeted with her paws. "I assure you Chase, that was not my attention."
"Yeah….sure." Chase let out suspiciously. He went up closer to her, standing firmly in determination.
Skye looked at Chase and saw the bloodshot eyes that he had, along with the matted fur on his chest and legs, inciting that he had been crying before he got here. Which made her heart hurt more.
"Skye….I know what you're going to say." Chase started as he looked at her with his gorgeous amber eyes. "But I ask you. Please…..give me a chance."
Skye stood her ground and pushed back. She prepared for this. "Forget it Chase. Don't waste your breath. I've made my decision. I've thought all about it, and I'm sticking to it. I'm sorry but….this is the way. Goodbye Chase."
She turned back towards the road and continued to walk away while Chase started to beg. "Skye please! Don't do this to us! We need you more than you think!"
Skye didn't even turn back around. "No Chase. There is nothing you can say to convince me."
"Yes there is! I just haven't said it yet! I just need five minutes!" Chase sobbed more tears as he followed her.
"You'll never say it Chase. Because there is nothing you can say."
"Yes I will! I just need five minutes! Give me five minutes!"
Skye stopped in her tracks at Chase's cries, she could hardly take it anymore, but she wasn't going to give in. "Chase. Stop. Don't waste your time and energy. Go home. Let me do this. It's what's best for me and the Paw Patrol."
"No! It's not!" Chase yelped, his sobs taking over. "It's not and you know it! Stop trying to accept something that's not true!"
"It is true Chase! Stop fighting it!" Skye yelled back. "I may not want to, but it's the truth! I'm no more useful than any of my equipment right now! I'm not any use of the team! Plain and simple!"
Chase moved close to the paused Skye and spoke with his tone lowered. "Skye…..please….five minutes…...give me five minutes….If I can't convince you in five minutes, I will go home and leave you alone…..please. I'm not asking you to do it for Ryder, or Rocky, or Rubble, or Zuma. Heck, I'm not even asking you to do it for Marshall...I'm asking you to please…." Chase whimpers as he says. "...Do it for me."
Skye widened her eyes with her heart beating all over her body. She was going to shoo him away, but she couldn't. When Chase said that last line, she could hear his feelings for her. Like it came from the bottom of his heart.
Skye slowly turns around to face him and sees the confidence and agony in his eyes. "Please Skye...five minutes…..that's all I'm asking. Then I will go back, and leave you to it. Just five minutes and I'm gone."
Skye's eyes trembled at Chase. Her heart grew immensely for him. She couldn't go on. She owed it to him….to give him five minutes.
She slowly closed her eyes and lowered her head. "Okay Chase." She then planted her tail in the ground and perched in front of the shepherd, raising her head and glared at the shepherd. "Five minutes…...starting now."
Chase looked appalled at her, like he was not expecting her to comply. Skye got a little annoyed. "Well, what are you waiting for? Five minutes right? That's what you wanted right? Don't waste it because that's all you're getting."
Chase still sat in disbelief, annoying Skye even more as she wondered and anticipated what Chase would say to keep her from running away. "Come on Chase! Say something! You fought so hard for it, so fire away! I'm pretty sure you're down to four minutes now."
Chase shook his head hastingly and swallowed nervously. "I'm not going to waste my time and tell you that running away will affect everyone horribly, or claim that there's no point in running away, or even use Marshall to drive it home to you. Everything I'm going to say will come straight from my heart Skye. Nowhere else."
Skye's ears perked up at this. She was now very intrigued in what the shepherd would say. She hoped that it wasn't what she wanted it to be.
Chase drew a deep breath before he really got going.
"Skye, to me, you are the most important pup in Paw Patro...no...my life right now. Even when Marshall was alive, I felt that way about you ever since we met. I've always loved how cheerful, excited, and happy you always were. Nearly everyday I see you, all of that gets on me and puts a big smile on my face. No matter how much of a bad day I've had, once I am aware of you or even hear of you, it raises me up from despair."
Skye was frozen like ice. With only her warm heart heating her.
Is it finally happening?
"Everyday I look forward to seeing you. Because I knew that I could always count on you. You make the worst day feel like the greatest day in my life. No one, not even my best friend could do that for me. It's you, and only you that can do that."
Skye already was about to burst into tears. She knew for sure now. It was happening. She had no idea if he was doing this to get it off his chest, or to keep her from leaving. Quite frankly, she didn't care. She had been waiting for so long for this moment, and she was not going to let it pass by.
Chase words were about as soft as feathers, bruising her heart. "I care about you Skye. Since the day we met, I've always cared about you. Even more than Marshall. You may not believe that so think what you will. Marshall did give me happiness and showed me how to have fun and be silly at times. You've also given me that happiness, but the big difference between him and you, was that you showed me how to care for one another and be there for anyone who is deep down in sadness and to be that smiling face that lights up their day. You taught us that Skye, and I have always admired you for it."
Skye's heart grew larger and larger. Chase warming words were getting to her, like she was opening the temple with the most beautiful and sacred relic she was after for so long, and it only got better from there.
"I don't ever like seeing that happiness be stripped away from you. Whenever I notice that it's gone, I do whatever I can to give all you gave me back to you. All because I want to see it all the time. I want to feel that happiness and carefulness whenever I can. I can only get it from you. So when it's you that loses your smile, I'm depressed along with you, because…" Chase closed his eyes to shutter the tears in, but it was to no avail. "You're not just a talented flyer Skye. It never mattered to me whether you were grounded or not, because to me….you're not just the best pilot in the world…."
Nothing prepared Skye for the look that Chase gave her. When he opened his eyes, she saw Chase's true feelings in his pupils and tears.
"You are my angel. Sent down from heaven to make my problems vanish in thin air, just by your smile. For that, I can't imagine feeling any different when I say this…"
Skye tightened up. Her heart was beating rapidly, about ready to explode. Finally, she will hear it straight from him. The three words she always wanted to hear from the shepherd.
"Skye…...I love you…...I love you more than anything in the world. I can't tell you how scared I am right now of losing you in the same week that I lost my brother."
Skye felt lightheaded after those sweet words were spoken. But she couldn't care about her weakness.
He…...He said it.
He finally said it.
And it couldn't have been more glorious than she dreamed it to be. Somehow, as if she needed even more to love him, he had more to say.
"If you go Skye, I will not only lose the pup I care for the most, but I will lose my soul. I'll go on as best as I can, and I'll make you proud of having me as a friend, but I will never find another dog who will give me everything that you have. Only you can do that Skye, and I will love you forever for it."
Skye's breathing slowed down thanks to the strength of Chase's confession, pulling her out of her depression. She fought hard to not pass out in front of him. But there was no way she was ever going to let it happen. Especially during the most greatest moment in her life, paws down.
Chase closed his eyes with more tears, and drew in another deep breath. "Y-You're probably thinking that I'm telling you this to keep you here. That I'm saying all this as a last resort to get you to finally see how much you mean to me. In a messed up way, it's true, but I'm using it, because everything I'm saying to you is true. Yes, the team needs you. Ryder needs you, but as far as I'm concerned…." He opened his eyes again with true love. "I need you more. I need you forever. I don't want you to go Skye. Without you in my life, I will never feel true love."
Chase's tears were waterfalls now, but his speech didn't deteriorate. "If you still feel that you need to run away, that you are no longer happy with us, despite everything I told you…...I won't stop you. If you believe that you're more happy being wherever else than here, go ahead. I just hope that you never forget about me, and always know that it doesn't work out, in any way, you can always come back to me."
That did it.
That was all Skye needed to hear.
Any insecurities that the cockapoo had, was now forever lost in the past.
Her mind was mush right now. She always knew that Chase cared for her. So much that he could hardly keep it in. But she never thought that she meant so much to Chase way more than she thought.
SKye was hypnotized by Chase's true self, as she slowly walked closer to Chase than she ever did before. So close, that she could only see his beautiful amber eyes that shined down on her like diamonds.
She couldn't think of anything to say, except for one short sentence.
"Your five minutes are up." Skye breathed, as she slowly reached in, and pressed her lips into his.
Due to how abrupt it was, Chase was hesitant. But it was only a matter of seconds when Skye's tongue requested entrance into Chase's mouth. Chase accepted immediately, as he finally made the effort to give back.
Instantly, Skye could hear Chase's authority taking full control of the kiss, but neither of her defenses dared put up a fight. She wanted that authoritative manner to grab the helm, and be carried away.
The pace quickened up a bit, as their passion grew through their bodies. Skye lost feeling in her hinds, as her rump pounded the grass below her, taking in all that she could from the shepherd who was now hers.
Skye tried to push back to give as much as Chase was giving, pushing up on her hind legs to where she was standing on her. But Chase was just too powerful, as she swiftly fell backwards on her back with her paws in the air. Chase followed her down and stood over her, their lips never left each other's. Soon after, Chase went down on his left side, doing his best to keep up with Skye.
They laid in the grass with more love for each other than they ever had and kissed tomorrow goodbye.
(A/N): Oh Boy! What A truly Lovely way to start the act off! But how will they break this to Ryder? Will they even tell ANYONE about their relationship finally starting to catch fire? I hope you all didn't forget about that gruesome dream Chase had as well, and are wondering how Chase will move on from that horrible nightmare.
