(A/N): Hey guys!
Things are starting to ramp up as the Paw Patrol has to try to stop a cargo ship from crashing into Adventure Bay! During a busy beach day no less! Will they succeed, or will this be another unfortunate accident?
That will be answered, but first, a little check up on everyone's favorite pup!
Welcome back to Paw Patrol: The Ballad Of Dally!
Chapter 33: Come Aboard to Rescue
Dally sat on the couch, completely bored out of his mind. Today was just like any other day, where he would be continuously bored for hours until Stacy would finally come back from work.
He wished Stacy would let him go to the city, but Stacy was very strict on that, saying that there were a lot of dangerous stray dogs and cats that could hurt the Dalmatian. Dally of course believed her, considering he had an encounter with a Stray and he wasn't even in the city! Since then, he always took Stacy's words by law. Unfortunately, that also made him be stuck in the house, bored…..and alone.
If it's one thing Dally ever wanted from this world, it's a friend to talk to, a friend to laugh and joke with,...a friend to be happy with. All so….he wouldn't be lonely anymore.
Dally has asked Stacy many times for her to bring another pup home, but sadly, she's always stated that she could barely afford to take care of him. But she also said that she would try her best to save up. Dally appreciated Stacy's honesty, but the longer it went, the more miserable he became.
Dally loved Stacy. She has taken care of him and loved him for almost a year now. He sees Stacy as his loving mother, but Dally wanted more than that. He wanted someone to be with him all day, to play with him no matter how annoying he got. If he had a friend, he would never be alone ever again, but the cold truth is that it probably won't happen for a long time, and Dally dreaded he knew it, Dally suddenly formed tears. He started to cry for his thoughts. The thought of being without a friend tore him to pieces.
'Is it going to be like this forever? Will I ever have any friends for the rest of my life?'
Dally sobbed as he looked at the front door. Wishing greatly for Stacy to come through it right now, and tell him that it's all okay.
His eyes suddenly caught one thing on the table beside the front door. It was a blue spiral notebook that Dally knew belonged to Stacy.
Dally suddenly gasped. He realized that Stacy must've left it by accident. Thinking that she may need it, and how happy she would be to see it, Dally ran over to it, grabbed it with his teeth, and ran out the doggie door with the notebook.
He ran down the path as fast as he could, tripping a couple times, but always made sure that the notebook was secure in his mouth when he got up to continue.
It occurred to him that he had never been in town by himself before. Therefore, he didn't know where Stacy's job was. He knew what the building looked like, he just didn't know where it was. Hopefully, he will find it in time.
Ryder felt Rocky's grip tighten up when they got on the water and far out in the seat. He nearly lost all of his air as the speed he was going caused the jet ski to splash water on them.
"I hope you're holding on tightly, Rocky." Ryder cringed and shook at the splashes of water that drenched his fur. "Do you have to go so fast Ryder? I'm already more wet than I ever wanted to be in my life!"
"Sorry boy. We need to get to the boat as fast as he can, so we can have plenty of time to stop it."
Rocky shivered as the breeze caused him to feel chills all over. "I hope we get there fast Ryder. All this water is about to make me seasick. Yuck!"
"Hey! If You're going to puke, do it over the side please!" Ryder yelled out. "I haven't done laundry yet!"
"Gee. Thanks Ryder!" Rocky responds sarcastically.
Ryder let out a short chuckle as Zuma pulled up next to Ryder. Ryder looked at his water pup, who had a determined look on his face as he always did.
He spoke to him through the pup pad. "The ship isn't far, Zuma. Are you ready?"
Zuma looked over at Ryder and gave him a smile to match the face. "I'm all weady Wyder. Wahooooooo!"
Zuma punched it, while howling to the sky. Ryder twisted his as well, keeping pace with Zuma, at Rocky's expense.
"RYDER! STOP! I'M GETTING SOAKED!" Rocky screamed over the engine. "Oh come on Rocky! You can't sit there and tell me that you don't find this at least a little bit of fun!" Ryder called back to the terrorized mixed breed.
"Not if I'm getting all wet!" Rocky cried, as Ryder continued to speed on the water, followed by Zuma, and clinged on by Rocky.
It didn't take long, for Rocky's sake, to finally find the large ship in question, on a non stop course, straight for Adventure Bay.
Zuma eyed the ship for how big it was. "Whoa. What a huge ship Wyder. That's long enough to fit Adventure Bay on it!"
"Which is why we need to stop it, before any harm could be done to Adventure Bay." Ryder replied as he turned around, and pulled up alongside the starboard side of the ship. A problem arose as the deck was a good fifteen feet above them, and the hull had no divots to climb on, not to mention, the ship was still moving.
"Ryder? How in the world are we going to get up there?" Rocky asked. "There's no way we can just jump."
Ryder pondered as he rode by the ship. He was in such a rush to get out here that he didn't think about how to get on the ship. He could call Skye to lift them onto the ship, but that would take too long, and Adventure Bay was starting to come into view, meaning that they were on borrowed time.
Ryder put his ATV on auto pilot, and pulled out a grappling hook from one of the extra compartments.
"Whoa. I didn't know you had a grappling hook in there." Rocky said, impressed.
"Of course I do Rocky. Gotta always be prepared." Ryder responded, as he lassoed the rope, and swung it over the right of the ship's edge. The gook grabbed onto the railing directly in front of them thanks to the momentum. Exactly where Ryder wanted it. He gave it a few tugs for its sturdiness, then steered his ATV closer to the ship. He then looks at Rocky. "Okay Rocky, you're going to have to climb this rope to the ship."
"WHAT?! You've got to be kidding!" Rocky squealed.
"It's the only way we can get on Rocky!" Ryder pushed.
"Wh-Why do I have to go first?!" Rocky pressed with fear.
"So I can catch you if you fall silly!" Ryder assured. "Now. Bring out your claws so you can grab the ropes. "Rocky gulped before he barked out both his claws. Grabbing the rope with them before Ryder lifted him up.
"You got it?!" Ryder assumed.
Rocky pulled on the rope to answer. "I-I got it Ryder."
"Okay! Hold on now!" Ryder uttered, as he inched Rocky over to the side of the boat, placing his paws on the hull. "Okay Rocky! Start climbing! I'll be right here to catch you if you fall!"
Rocky gulped again, as he started to scale the ship with his claws moving up the rope. His heart pounded on each step as he urged himself to stay calm.
'Don't think about the water! Don't think about the water! Don't think about the water! Don't think about the water!'
He felt a splash on him and it drove his anxiety crazy, causing his paws to slip off the side, and dangle in his claws. He yelped out as he swayed left and right due to the ship's movement. He was forced to look down at Ryder.
"Rocky! You're okay boy! You're almost there! Just put your paws back on the side!" he heard Ryder yell.
Rocky tried to do so, his wet paws and the swaying, he couldn't keep them on. "I'm trying Ryder! I'm trying! But I keep slipping!"
Ryder felt the need to start climbing himself to get to the spooked mixed breed. Hopefully, the rope could hold both of them. "Hang on little buddy! I'm coming! "Suddenly before he could grab the swaying rope, Ryder heard his jetski sputtering, until it went stone dead. Before he knew it, the ship was pulling away from him, leaving Rocky all by himself.
"What?! NO! NO! NO!" Ryder shrieked. As he quickly tried to start his jet ski back up. It was no use, it wouldn't turn over. He then realized that he stupidly forgot to put gas in the ATV and was bone dry, stranded out at sea, with Rocky still dangling from the side of the ship.
Ryder wailed and banged his hand on the handlebars, cursing himself for making the dumb mistake at a time like this. He then heard Zuma pull up next to him.
"Need a wide dude?" Zuma asked.
"Zuma, you're a lifesaver!" Ryder exclaimed, as he jumped on the pup's hovercraft.
"Whewe's Wocky?!" Zuma howled in confusion.
"Dangling off the side!" Ryder answered, settling himself in the hovercraft. "We need to get to him! Fast!"
"Wight on it Wyder!" Zuma acknowledged as he gave chase to the runaway ship.
Ryder hoped to god that Rocky was still hanging on.
Chase stood appalled at the back of the beach, eying everyone having fun on the beach. Ryder wasn't kidding, nearly all of Adventure Bay's citizens, including the shop owners, were having the time of their lives. People, dogs, children, pups, and even some tourists littered the beach, looking as if it was a beach festival or something going on, complete with volleyball nets, vendors, music, and of course, lots and lots of food that made the shepherd's stomach grumble to no end.
So far, there was nothing to worry about, as the ship that was reportedly coming up on them, and was nowhere in sight.
"Oh! Chase! How's it going?!" Chase turned to see Mayor Goodway in a onesie and sunglasses, with Chickaletta in a pair of little floaties.
"Oh, uh, hey Mayor!" Chase greeted.
"I have to say, I didn't expect to see you, or any of the pups or Ryder here." The Mayor commented.
"Why do you say that, Mayor?" Chase asked, a little confused.
"Well….um….I...I thought you all would want to….keep to yourselves today." The Mayor awkwardly answered. "Considering…..what today is…. And all. I…..thought twice about inviting you all to the beach."
Despite the implication tugging at his heart, Chase gave the Mayor a small smile. "It's okay Mayor, we were actually thinking about coming anyway. Maybe to take our minds off of...things."
"Oh I'm sorry Chase! I never considered that." The Mayor apologized, now looking at Chickaletta. "Chickaletta! Why didn't you think of that!"Chase chuckled. "It's okay Mayor. Don't sweat it."
The Mayor beamed until she noticed something strange about Chase. "Uhhhh Chase? Why are you in gear, and where are the others?"
Chase debated on telling the Mayor about the situation. He didn't want to worry her and spoil everyone's beach day, forcing them to leave, but their safety was top priority. "I'm sorry to say this, Mayor, but we may have a serious situation on our hands. Right now, Ryder and Rocky are trying to stop an out of control boat from crashing into the bay. I'm here in case they can't stop it and I need to clear the beach."
"Oh my! Do you need the beach cleared now?" The Mayor quavered. "Oh no no no. Not yet Mayor. It may be easily solved without tarnishing everyone's fun. Just help me if I alarm everyone, okay?"
"O-Okay Ch-Chase. If-If you-you sa-say so." Goodway faltered.
"Don't be worried, Mayor. It could be nothing. Just go out and have fun." Chase assured with a smile.
"Okay Chase, you know what's best!" Mayor Goodway replied, as she walked away to join the festivities.
Chase contemplated on whether or not it was wise to downplay the emergency to the Mayor. Is there really nothing to worry about?
He looked all around and found a lone figure by herself, sitting behind everybody, writing on a recognized her to be Stacy Jackson, who writes the articles for the Adventure Bay newspaper. Chase remembers reading the articles on the Paw Patrol's escapades and would remember being appalled at how derogative they were about Ryder. She was cleverly subtle with it, but Chase would catch on pretty quickly. Reading things like how Ryder would always stand back, away from danger, and how his pups get hurt. Which was obviously not true.
Despite this, Chase was always nice to her. Mostly because, he didn't want to be a jerk to her thanks to his code and ethics. He always wanted to ask her why she was so hard on Ryder though, but never got the chance to.
Figuring that he had a chance now, Chase approached her with a smile. "Hey miss Jackson. Having fun on the beach?"
"Hm? Oh hey Chase." Stacy greeted. "Take it that you're on patrol?"
"You can say that." Chase responded. Not wanting to alarm anyone yet. "I haven't seen you in a while lately. Where have you been?"
"I'm a very busy woman Chase. I've been everywhere. Seth's gone to Barkingburg for a week, so it's just me. The only reason I'm relaxing here is because the Mayor asked me to do a story on this beach day."
"You've been running the newspaper all by yourself?" Chase asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, until Mr. Carlton comes back, I am." Stacy confirmed, while still writing in the notebook. "I sure hope he doesn't miss this notebook. I can't believe I left mine at the house. Uggh I swear I'm getting worse every day."
"Stacy? Can I ask you something a little personal?" Chase requested, as he looked at Stacy with stern eyes.
Stacy turned her head to him. "Sure, fire away." "Why are you so hard on Ryder?" Chase asked, being as professional as he could. "In almost every article I've read about us, you make it seem like Ryder doesn't care about us. But that can't be farther from the truth. So, why do you make it seem that he doesn't?"
Stacy put the notebook to the side and gave Chase her full attention. She sighs deeply. "Chase, I'm going to pull no punches with you. When I write my articles for the paper, I call things from what I see and hear, and in my observation, Ryder is raised way too high by everyone. Adventure Bay overlooks his mistakes and thinks he can do no wrong. But from what I've seen, that's not the case. I've seen just about every rescue that you all have done, and I've seen him just as many mistakes. Mistakes that have hurt everyone of you pups. It's my job to give the truth to the people of Adventure Bay, and if I see something that's concerning, I will point it out. I'm not saying that he has to be perfect, I'm just telling what I see, and I put it in my articles."
Chase didn't know how to feel about this. There was no denying that Ryder has made mistakes, especially crucial ones, but Chase always knew that his owner learned from those mistakes. However, more and more have been happening quite often. From his calculations, to equipment failures. It would sometimes end with a pup getting hurt, but that comes with being a rescue pup, right?
"It-It's not like he sets us up for failure. Ryder tries to make sure we're safe every time we go out." Chase valiantly responded. His faith in Ryder showed in his tone.
"I understand that, but the glaring thing about it is that some of those accidents that happen could've been easily avoided, and you pups are constantly in danger while he stays back behind you all barely lifting a finger." Stacy continued, harshly.
"What?! No!" Chase yelped in total disbelief. "You're wrong! Ryder always helps out! More than you think he does! Especially on a very dangerous mission!"
Stacy took a deep breath as she replied. "Chase...I understand you defending Ryder, and you have every right to. But I have my opinion, and from my point of view, Ryder relies too much on you pups."
"Well your opinion is wrong." Chase responded bitterly. "Ryder helps us a lot, and he cares for us more than you see. He never sends us to places where he knows we will get hurt for sure."
Stacy took Chase's defense and countered it. "Then why is Marshall dead?"
Chase gasped in complete shock. No….she wouldn't. She wouldn't go that far. Would she? "Wha? What are you on about? Marshall didn't die because of Ryder!"
"Let me ask you this Chase. When city hall was burning, did he go in to save the Mayor, Katie, and Alex?"
Chase was caught off guard by that question. "Huh? N-No...but…"
"No. Of course not. He sent Marshall, Skye, and you, into the burning building that could collapse at any second, while he stayed far away back with a hose. Your friend paid the price for that. Marshall's death would've been prevented had he went."
The German Shepherd was absolutely stunned at how ruthless she was being, and she wasn't even showing any anger.
Chase however, was. His teeth were tightened and his paws clenched the sand and his eyes were shuttered in legit anger, though his voice was low and cold as he was too stricken to lash out. "Bu-But...I lied to him. I told him my paw was fine and that I could do it. It was me that made the mistake. Not Ryder."
Despite seeing the Shepherd's anger brewing, Stacy kept calm and reversed Chase's claim. "It was Ryder's decision to send you Chase. HE knew about your injury from your last rescue, and yet still asked you to go in. He should've gone in, not you. That's the truth, and that's what I put in my articles. I'm sorry Chase, but that's what I see in Ryder. Someone who throws his pups in danger and walks away like nothing happened."
Chase's anger was at an all time boiling point. Hearing someone bury Ryder like this, stuck a crucial nerve in him. Over exaggerated facts and lies just like she puts in her papers. He couldn't hold it all in much longer. He needed to stand up for Ryder and get Stacy Jackson to understand that Ryder cares about his pups and loves them like they're his children. Especially to someone who barely knows Ryder to begin with.
Bleep! Bleep!
"Chase? You there buddy?!"
Chase suddenly put his anger aside at the sound of his pup tag. Adventure Bay in danger was easily more important than shutting a reporter up.
"Yes Ryder, I'm here. What's your status?"
"I'm afraid we're having some problems stopping the ship, and we're closing in on the beach! Get everyone off now!"
"Understood Ryder sir!" Chase acknowledged as he hung up and turned to Stacy with a stern look.
Stacy looks at him with curiosity and concern. "What's going on?"
Chase really had to keep himself from mouthing off to her. "You might want to get somewhere safe Miss. Jackson. There's a cargo ship on it's way to this beach!"
"Wait! But we don't have a shipyard!" Stacy called out in confusion.
"Exactly. It's going to crash right here, so I suggest you get out of it's path, Miss Jackson." Chase answered bluntly as turned his back to her.
"Wait, CRASH?!" Stacy yelped. "You can't be serious!"
Chase knowingly ignored her as he suddenly saw a lone figure, right out in the sea, coming closer and closer, it still had a ways to go, but it was still alarming.
"What's a cargo ship doing all the way out here?" Stacy asked.
"I don't know, but Ryder and Rocky are trying to stop it as best as they can to stop it. I've got to get everyone off the beach!" Chase expressed, as he barked out his megaphone and ran towards the crowd. Stacy immediately started to fire her camera up for a rare occasion in Adventure Bay.
A little ways from the shore, the cargo ship was gliding along it's collision course for Adventure Bay, and hadn't lost any of it's speed. Ryder and Zuma finally made it to where Ryder unintentionally left Rocky, but was shaken when he found that Rocky wasn't there, and neither was the rope.
"Wh-whewe is he?! Wydew WHEWE IS HE?!" Zuma shrieked, a few seconds from having a massive panic attack.
Ryder petted Zuma to calm him the best he could. "Zuma! Zuma! Calm down! Let me call him on my pup pad."
"RYDER!"
Ryder looked up, to see Rocky on the ship, looking at them. "Rocky?! How did you…."
"No time to explain Ryder! Grab the rope!" Rocky ordered, as he dropped the rope down for Ryder to grab. Zuma moved closer to the side of the ship so Ryder could grab it.
It took a couple of tries until Ryder had a firm grip. He then started scaling the ship until he felt himself being pulled up with no effort from him, but of the mixed breed.
He finally got to the top and climbed on to the boat, while receiving a massive hug from Ryder.
"Oh Ryder! Please don't ever do that again! I was so scared!"
Ryder hugged him back. "I'm so sorry Rocky, but how did you get up on the ship?"
Rocky stepped back. "The captain pulled me up shortly after you left, Ryder."
"Captain?" Ryder repeated.
"Yeah! The captain. Whose right over there!" Rocky replied, as he pointed towards a man who was trying dramatically to catch his breath. Ryder ran over to assist.
"Are you alright sir?" Ryder asked the man.
The captain heaves out his words. "...Don…..Don't call…..me sir…."
Ryder raised an eyebrow. "Oh….uh….sorry..but what should I call you?"
As soon as Ryder asked that question, the heaving immediately stopped and the man suddenly jumped to his feet and pumped his chest out. "Why you should call me Captain Starboard!" His voice was as proud as his chest. "Eliminator of the enemy of the seas! Protector of all from the watery waves, and a real gentleman mind you! Here to fight the battle on the ocean!"
Ryder had to keep himself from laughing after that glorious introduction from the captain. "Uhhhhh, you do realize you're on a cargo ship, right?"
"Alas! I am." Starboard let out, with so much flamboyance. All he needed was a rose in his hand. "Left the navy just last week, and currently stuck with a job that uses only half my expertise! I was a competent captain in the…."
"Captain Starboard! I'm sorry to ruin your resume reading, but we have no time to hear it!" Ryder pointed out. "This ship is heading right for our home! If we don't stop it, it'll crash right through it!"
As soon as Ryder said that, the captain's pride deflated before his very eyes. "You couldn't be more right young lad! Oh what a horrible captain I am. I've fought many battles at sea, and miraculously saved lives countless times, but yet here am I, failing in triumph! With the inability to even man a cargo ship! Oh what a tragedy this is! I'm the worst captain EVER! AH HAHAHAHAHA!"
The captain then started to sob loudly and dramatically in front of Ryder and Rocky, who was a little unsure of what to do.
"Great Ryder. You made him cry." Rocky blanked
Ryder went over and put a hand on the crying captain. "Hey, hey, calm down Captain Starboard. I'm sure you are not so bad."
The captain only cried luder in response as Ryder tried his best to calm him. Then Ryder's pup pad rang from Zuma. "Yes, Zuma?"
"Wydew? Is Wocky okay?"
"Yes Zuma, he's okay."
"Thank goodness Wydew. Do you still need me to take the cwew?"
"Hold on, Zuma. Let me find out." Ryder looked to the crying captain, who had calmed a bit. "Captain Starboard. Where is your crew?"
The captain subsided his crying to answer Ryder. "Not to worry about them. They are all safe from this impending disaster! They took the life boat after I selflessly ordered them to."
"Why didn't you go on it captain?" Rocky asked, confused.
The captain gasped dramatically. "My dear young pup. What sort of captain would I be if I , Captain Starboard, were to abandon ship, and not go down with it?!"
"Wha? But the ship's not…" Rocky started until Ryder placed a hand and shook his head. "Please, don't feed him."
The boy then looks at the captain. "So your crew is safe?"
Starboard scratched his neck nervously. "Weeeelll...yes...for the most part."
Ryder and Rocky popped their eyebrows at the incompetent captain. "For the most part?"
The captain continued his nervous manner. "Y-Yeah. You se, we didn't have any of those fancy lifeboats with the motors and such. Due to budget constraints sooo…" the captain breathed in and exhaled through his teeth. "We only had row boats."
"ROW BOATS?!" Rocky yelped in surprise.
"But I thought it was required by law to have up to date lifeboats!" Ryder exclaimed, completely flabbergasted.
"That's what I thought as well, but they couldn't afford it they said, so they slid by with those degrading row boats!" The captain explained."
"How far are they out?" Ryder asked.
"They left a few hours ago, so I think they're stranded a few miles out in the sea." The captain answered. "Oh my poor crew! It'll take them days to get to shore! Oh how I'm so sorry!"
"Don't worry captain, I have the exact pup for the job!" Ryder announced. "Did you get that Zuma?"
"I suwe did Wydew! But I wish I knew exactly whewe they'we at! They could be anywhere out hewe!"
"Not to worry Zuma. You're getting some good help." Ryder swiped over to Skye's pup tag. "Skye? Are you there?"
"I sure am, and ready to take off!" She howled, doing a quick backflip. "What do you need me to do?"
"I need you to fire up your copter and help Zuma locate the lifeboat out in the sea."
"Copy that Ryder! This pup's gotta fly!" Skye acknowledged, as Ryder hung up and faced the captain.
"Your crew will be okay, captain. Now we've got to stop this thing. Can you take us to the bridge?" Ryder asked.
"Of course brave Ryder, and his fellow pups." The captain charmed. "Follow me!"
Ryder and Rocky follow him to the bridge, hoping to stop the ship in time.
Ryder's heart dropped when he saw that the bridge was now in eyesight of them. He hoped Chase got everyone off the beach.
Away from the nearing catastrophe that will squander the fun in the sun, was the Adventure Bay newspaper office. Where a confused and lonely Dalmatian had his face plastered on the glass. Seeing no evidence of his loving owner in the empty office.
Dally had no awareness of anything around him. His mind dwelled on where Stacy was. He was quite proud of himself for being able to find Stacy's job, but one look at the clock told him that something was off. His owner should be her, doing whatever was relevant for the town paper, but no person stood or sat in the office.
Dally unsticked himself from the window. The inner workings of his mind were now in chaos. He had nowhere else to look for Stacy, and no question he would ask would fall on anyone's ears. For the strangest reason, Adventure Bay's lively town was soulless. Dally's breathing was the only faint sound he heard. Projecting to him that he was alone.
A feeling that had plagued the Dalmatian as far as he could remember shifted his already confused mind to frantic. Not even the littlest of critters occupied the sidewalk and streets. It was truly a ghost town.
The pup cringed up and shook all over. He was somewhere unfamiliar to him, all alone. Dally looked around, and suddenly saw flames and smoke burning the buildings and trees that surrounded him. A terrified set of whimpers escaped his mouth, as he lowered his belly to the ground. Scared tears running down his cheeks.
He was alone, with his conquering fear all around him. No one to hear him, see him, or save him from the fiery depths of abandonment.
Amidst the fire's and smoke he breathed in, a sound of a loud voice being projected rang his ears. They perked, shooting him back up to his paws. The fires were extinguished, and the building stood unscaved, but Dally paid no mind to the strange anomaly. Focusing on the voice that filled the air.
"Attention Adventure Bay! This is Chase from the Paw Patrol! You must clear the beach! Please exit the beach as quickly but orderly as possible!"
The strange but familiar voice to the pup. Like he heard it a thousand times before. But try as he might, he couldn't name it. Though, Dally felt as if he knew exactly who was speaking.
The voice seduced the pup to an uncontrollable trance, moving towards the source of the blaring voice, pulling him through an alleyway where he came in sight of a large beach with countless patrons and dogs, gathering up their possessions and making their way quickly to a specific spot off to the right of Dally. Though some of them were still enjoying the fun, disregarding the announcement entirely. One of them was the only familiar face he knew for sure. His owner, Stacy, taking pictures with her camera.
For the first time since he came into town, a smile formed on Dally's face as he wagged his tail. He had finally found Stacy and would finally be able to give her the notebook he had in his jaws. The Dally had it in his mind to walk out to her and give it, but a certain pup froze him on the spot.
It was a brown German Shepherd, with a police cap on, and a vest that looked too familiar to the pup. Along with the pack on the pups pack with a megaphone coming out of it.
Dally let out a quick gasp as the shepherd struck something in his mind. He assumed that it was Chase, whose voice Dally heard earlier, and like the voice, looked very familiar to him. As if he knew him all his life. But he never saw him in his life….right?
Another shock of realization hit him, as he focused on the vest Chase was wearing. It reminded him of the vest he had on when he woke up in the building. Dally eyed the blue vest closely and despite being a different color, it looked exactly like his vest along with the pack on its back, which was also a different color.
Dally knew it wasn't the same pack he had on, but despite that glaring difference, it opened the pup's mind to a thought he had not had since a year prior. His memories and the frustration that came with trying to recall them. Then, he thought of a breakthrough.
Did he know the German Shepherd before he lost his memories?
After many time crunching minutes, Ryder, Rocky, and the captain finally made it to the bridge of the ship. Ryder looked straight out of the windows to find that they didn't have much time left. The shore of Adventure Bay was now close enough to make out the little specks of people and dogs on the beach, separated by only twenty miles.
They were running out of water fast, and had to stop this behemoth of a ship in time before it passes under the bridge, and crashes on the shore of Adventure Bay!
Rocky gasped as Ryder shot his head towards the captain. "Captain Starboard, tell me, why can't you stop the ship."
"Why it's the throttle next to the wheel! It's stuck on the fastest setting. I tried to move it but it broke in my hand!"
"Got it! Rocky! You know what to do!" Ryder called out.
"Yes sir Ryder! I'm on it! Arf Arf! Tape!" Rocky barked, as an arm holding a tape dispenser popped out of his pup pack, while also barking out his claw to pick up the broken piece to the lever. He taped the piece back on as tight as he could. He then tried to pull it, but just as the captain said, it wouldn't move. "It's stuck Ryder! I have to get in there and find out why!"
"Agast! But we don't have time for you to disassemble it!" the captain yelped in horror. "Adventure Bay is approaching!"
"Not when you're me, Captain Starboard!" Rocky proudly stated, before he barked out his screwdriver, and went to work.
Ryder looked in front of him and saw that Adventure Bay was football fields away now. He went to the wheel and tried to turn it, but the wheel was stuck as well. "Captain! The wheel's stuck!"
"I know! I've already tried to steer away, lad!" The captain replied.
"What?! You knew! Why didn't you tell me!" Ryder yelped out.
"You didn't ask." Starboard answered blatantly, causing Ryder to facepalmed so hard, it left a red mark on his forehead. He hoped Rocky could get the throttle unstuck in time, or they were doomed.
"Alwight dudes! Awe you all tied up?!" Zuma called back at the crew, who were piled up in a little life boat.
One of them checked the rope tethered to them and gave a thumbs up. "Okay pup! We're golden!"
"Okay! Let's get you all back to the showe." Zuma howled. "I won't go too fast fowe ya, but still, hang on dudes!"
Zuma saw the nods from the boat, as he turned his hovercraft on and pushed the throttle. Heading straight for Adventure Bay. He saw Skye still hanging around, and called her.
"Okay Skye, I got them in my cawe! Thanks fow helping me find him!"
"No problem, Zuma! I'm going to check on Chase at the beach!"
"Copy that Skye!" Zuma responded, as he went a little faster, being careful not to give a crew a bumpy ride to shore.
It was a little later, when Skye called him back. "Zuma! The ship is very close to Adventure Bay and is still going!"
"What?! They haven't stopped it yet?!" Zuma yelped.
"That's what it looks like!" Skye yelped back
Zuma gasped as he called Ryder. When he answered, the pup's voice was in full concern. "Wydew? I got the cwew! Skye told me you haven't stopped the ship yet! What's wrong?!"
"We are having a lot of trouble here little buddy! I don't think we're going to stop it in time!" Ryder responded, a little fear in his voice.
"But what about Adventuwe Bay and the citizens?! Everyone is at the beach Wydew! What do we do?!" Zuma howled in deep worry for Adventure Bay.
"I'm afraid everyone's safety is in Chase's paws now!' Ryder admitted.
Zuma slammed his paw in frustration. Feeling completely powerless for the folks of Adventure Bay, he hopes Chase can evacuate the beach in time. In conjunction, Another worry came across his mind.
"W-Wydew? What about you and Wocky?" Zuma breathed in concern. "I-I can get up to the boat and pick you two up?"
"No Zuma. Focus on getting the crew to safety. We'll try to slow the boat down as best we can."
Zuma didn't like that, he wanted to be sure of his owner's and best friend safely. "B-But W-Wydew? What if you and Wocky get huwt weally bad?"
There was a long pause until Ryder finally responded. "I'm sorry little buddy, I guess we're going to have to brace ourselves."
Zuma completely froze in place. "W-W-Wydew, c-come on dude. Don't be…"
"It's the only way we can reduce the damage to Adventure Bay Zum. I know you're scared, but I promise you, we'll be fine." Ryder softly said. "Just get the crew to shore. Don't worry about us, okay?"
A minion chills ran down Zuma's spine as petrified tears rolled down his cheeks. But whatever Ryder's word was final and Zuma trusted Ryder. "O-Okay Wydew. I'll go and drop the cwew off. But I'm coming back for you, okay?"
"Can't stop you from doing that, Zuma. Ryder out."
Zuma pushed on to Adventure Bay. He looked back at the crew with a firm voice. "Hang on dudes. I'm going to go as fast as I can. Please alewt me if any of you go ovewboawd okay?!"
The crew nodded, as all of them lowered to the ground, and grabbed anything they could to secure them in the boat. Zuma then punched it, speeding to Adventure Bay, Being mindful of the boat he was tethering.
"Aha! Finally! I got it!" Rocky called out. Wagging his tail in success as his claw held what had caused the lever to get stuck in the first place. Oddly enough, it was a strong prestigious ink pen. "What was this doing in there?"
"Ah!" The captain shrieked, as he snatched the pen from Rocky's claw. "My service pen from the USS Clancy! Oh look at it, it's all ruined!"
"Seriously Pal? It's just a pen." Rocky dead panned.
"Wrong you are, dear pup! This pen was awarded to me for my service as Captain in the navy! It's my most prized possession!"
"Then what was it doing wedged in the throttle?" Rocky asked back.
"It's a mystery to me. I thought I lost it working with the crew outside. Sigh. At least it's returned to me!" The captain kissed it as he put it back in his shirt pocket.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know it meant…"
"I hate to stop this item sharing between the two of you, but we are about to crash." Ryder cut in, pointing forward as Rocky and the captain noticed the bridge right in front of him.
"Yipe!" Rocky yelped, as he pulled back on the throttle, to stop the beat. "I hope this ship stops in time!"
"I'm not afraid of Rocky. It takes almost ten minutes to fully stop a boat this size!" the captain let out, shaking in his boots.
"What?! Then how are we going to stop us from crashing?!" Rocky shrieked.
"We can't Rocky. We're going to have to brace ourselves and prepare for it!" Ryder blatantly said, as he braced himself. "Keep that throttle down Rocky, and hold on to something!"
Rocky gulped as he crouched down behind the control panel, due to his claw being a little short, he couldn't get far, so he braced himself the best he could.
What was once a summer paradise full of laughing, playing, and relaxing, was now filled with utter chaos, as the ship was now about to pass under the bridge, and was in plain view of everyone who was in the vicinity.
Thankfully, it wasn't very crowded anymore, thanks to Chase warning everyone before, but of course, some disregarded it. Most of them were tourists.
But when the ship came into clear view and showed no sign of stopping, they got the jist. People and dogs were scrambling to the safety of Adventure Bay's streets, with Chase helping anyone he could to get them past the cones he set up to mark where they would be safe.
When he noticed that the ship really was about to crash into the bay, his worries instantly shot to Ryder and Rocky. If they were still in the ship, that would mean they were in grave danger and that scared Chase to death, causing him to call Ryder and find out if they were still on the ship. He hoped that they weren't.
But before he could make the call, he heard a voice cry out behind him.
"Summer?! Summer?! Where are you?! SUMMER?!"
Chase looked behind him and saw a brown terrier, hysterically calling out for her pup. She made her way to the cones where Chase stopped her from running past them. "Sorry mam, but for your safety, you have to stay behind my cones!"
The terrier would've pushed Chase down had he not had a strong body. "But my pup! My pup! She's still out there!"
Chase turned around and his heart shot up. Running out of the water, just about to reach the wet sand, was a panicking terrier, while the ship was directly behind her, halfway to the shore.
Chase immediately took off towards her as the ship got closer. Summer just made it out of the water with the boat at least ten feet behind her. Chase ran as fast as he could, preparing to meet his end so the pup wouldn't have to.
In not a moment too soon, Chase tackled the pup away from her doom and barley from his as the ship slammed itself in the sand, causing containers to fly everywhere as it propelled itself forward, getting closer and closer to the main street of Adventure Bay, before it finally came to rest, just shy of Chase's cones. In one of the closest calls in Paw Patrol history.
(A/N): Ooooooooooooooo boy! That was very close! The beach may be destroyed, but at least the citizens are okay.
But what about Rocky and Ryder? Are they alright? Or was the impact damaging to them? And I hope you didn't forget about Dally watching from afar seeing Chase in action, feeling like he knew him. Will he approach Chase and ask him why he looks so familiar? And how will Chase react?
Find out next week, as the most anticipating moment of the story finally occurs, in Chapter 34: Life Throws a Bone!
