Once upon a time, in the land of Edo, there was a village that sat at the edge of a forest. This was not just any old forest. This forest was beheld with dark magics and was enchanted with glimmering spells. The rest of the world did not know of it, for it was a well kept secret.
Beyond the forest was a portal to another world. This world clashed against the reality of humans. Yet, there were those who wielded the power to push back, and so, the village carefully hand-selected humans of a holy nature that were to keep the portal from tearing open and colliding with their own universe.
Yet, on one cold and miserable day, a father walked with his children through the woods. The siblings, a boy and a girl that held no spiritual powers of any kind, could barely keep up with their father. He turned around quickly with a look of grief upon his face.
"I'm tired daddy," the girl mumbled out.
"And hungry!" The boy concluded. The father frowned as he shoved his hand into his bag.
"We're lost," he explained as he looked them over.
"Now Izayoi, Onigumo, you both must be tired, so you two wait here while I go for help," he said as he pulled a loaf of bread from his satchel.
"Eat this while I'm gone," he stated as he began to back away slowly. Izayoi held the bread in her small hands as she tore off a hunk and handed the loaf to her brother.
"Come back soon," she said.
"And be safe." Onigumo added. Their father nodded softly before he turned around and began to trudge off.
"We love you daddy!" Izayoi called out before he was out of their sight. Tears lingered behind his eyes.
"I'll be back soon, I promise!" He shouted his lie before he left them there, completely alone.
Minutes passed, turning into hours and hours turned into a whole day. When night came, so too did the agonizing cold that would leave anyone with frostbite.
"Where is he?" Izayoi questioned with desperation. Her skin and lips were turning blue, as were her brother's. Onigumo shook his head.
"Maybe… He never found a way out," his thought was grim, but not nearly as grim as the situation actually was.
"We have to get out of here Izayoi, we have to find shelter," he told her. Izayoi shook her head with fright.
"If we leave, then daddy won't be able to find us!" She stated. Onigumo shook his head. He was three years older than his seven year old sister.
"Izayoi, you need to listen to me, I'm older, so I'm in charge." He said as he finally faced her. She crossed her arms and shook her head stubbornly.
"I'm going to wait for daddy!" She stated again. Onigumo sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. His eyes fell on the last of the bread in his other hand.
"Look, we can leave a trail of crumbs for him to follow, see." Onigumo said as he tore off a hunk and crumbled it in his hand. Izayoi squinted her eyes at him.
"Come on Iza, I promise he'll find us." Onigumo didn't care if he didn't really know if what he said was true. All he knew was that they needed to find somewhere warm for the night. He would be damned if he was going to leave her here. The two trodded through the snow, unknowing of the horrors that awaited them.
The Little Hanyou
It had been twenty years since the fateful day when Inuyasha's mother had found her way into a world of magic. Inuyasha gazed at the painting of his mother and her brother. Of course, his mother always said that Onigumo didn't actually look like that. The painter had no idea how he looked and even with his mother's direction, she claimed it wasn't him really at all.
"Inuyasha." That was the sound of his father's voice. The hanyou sighed as he slowly turned away and began down the hall towards it. He couldn't help thinking of it all though. His mother had been a human and she had come from the human world. She had been on countless adventures with his father and only settled down here in the castle once he was born. He wanted adventure too though, he wanted to see the world. He wanted to meet other humans.
He was warned constantly about the dangers that the human world presented. From birth, priestesses were trained with only one intent, to kill demons. Yet, he wasn't a full demon, he was part human too. Wouldn't that be enough to let him go to the other side and see what lies there?
"Inuyasha!" His father called again. He finally made it down the hall and turned down the corridor to see his father with a worried look plastered on his face.
"There you are, we have been looking all over for you!" Inutaisho exclaimed as he grabbed his son by the shoulder and turned around before heading off at a fast pace, Inuyasha being pulled along behind him.
"Wait, dad, I don't wanna go to Sesshomaru's stupid party!" Inuyasha muttered as he tried to pull away. His father stopped in his tracks before facing Inuyasha with a stern look.
"Now you know this is a great honor for him! You won't be seeing him again in a long time, so you ARE going!" His father commanded. Inuyasha frowned and crossed his arms.
"Good riddance," he muttered under his breathe. Inutaisho heaved out a frustrated breath.
"And what would your mother think of it? You know that she will be there and she will be expecting you to make an appearance." Inutaisho stated. Inuyasha let out a defeated growl.
"Fine, I'll go for her, but that's the only reason I'm goin'!" Inuyasha finally gave in.
Without his father having to pull him along anymore, Inuyasha followed with discontent.
The Little Hanyou
"And there, now you are as handsome as you'll ever be." Yura said as she pulled a hairbrush through Inuyasha's now soft hair one more time. Inuyasha pulled away from her torture at the first chance he got.
"You are a future king to behold with that hair of yours." Yura giggled as she eyed him. Inuyasha only rolled his amber eyes at her before he began to stalk out of his chamber. He had intended to head to the Great Hall where he would await the rest of his family, but he became sidetracked when a good friend of his was running down a connected corridor, and upon seeing him, quickly went to him.
"Inuyasha, Inuyasha! In the woods! There's a crashed wagon with a bunch of human things in it." Shippo was quick to relay. Inuyasha's eyes widened with curiosity. He turned around and began to hurry down the hall.
"Come on Shippo, theres no time to waste then," he said as he pressed on. Shippo scurried on behind him.
"Were there any humans with it?" Inuyasha added his question. Shippo shook his head.
"I didn't see anyone, it looks like they abandoned it real quick though." The small kit explained as they continued on. It didn't take long for Inuyasha to reach his father's study and make an exit through the secret entrance. It lead to a tunnel that he quickly got through until he reached the other side. It opened up at the edge of the forest and Inuyasha peered into the thick wood.
"Show me where Shippo." Inuyasha stated and with that, Shippo went forward. He walked on for several minutes before turning left at the old god tree and continuing on. Inuyasha continued following him. Excitement began to ebb through him, he couldn't wait to see what treasures had been left behind.
When they reached the wagon wreckage, Inuyasha rushed over to look it all over. Among many things, he found strange, thin and narrow pieces of wood.
"What do you think these are?" He asked Shippo as he held them up. Shippo shrugged his shoulders as he stared them over.
"Maybe, there some kind of human weapon!" Inuyasha exclaimed as he held them as if the chopsticks were deadly.
"Or this!" He ran over to a large black bowl that had a long handle sticking out from it. It was extremely heavy.
"Maybe its a hat?" Shippo questioned. Inuyasha stared at it for a moment before he put it on his head. It slumped over his eyes.
"It must be a helmet." Inuyasha exclaimed as he pushed it up to see with his eyes.
"Human men must have really big heads or something." Inuyasha decided when he couldn't keep it up.
"Well, I mean, their really smart right? It only makes sense that they would have big heads." Shippo responded.
"It's gotta be over here..." Both Inuyasha and Shippo's eyes widened when they heard the feminine voice.
"What do you think that was?" Shippo whispered out. An excited smile reached Inuyasha's lips.
"A human," he remarked as he slipped the weapon sticks into his obi and pushed his metal helmet above his eyes once again. Fear seemed to filter across Shippo's face, but Inuyasha was only enamored with the idea of it.
"Come on! We gotta hide!" Shippo whispered desperately as he grabbed Inuyasha's pant leg and tugged on him. Inuyasha sighed as he blinked before he nodded.
"Alright, come on." Inuyasha said as he scooped Shippo up and jumped high up into a tree. He glanced down from his perch and watched two women cut through the brush towards the wreckage. Both had black hair and brown eyes with strange robes colored white at the top and long flowing red pants to accompany their garb.
Even though they both looked similar, one of them had unkempt hair and she was a little shorter than the other. There was something about her. Something indescribable. Her eyes were bright and her mood seemed cheerful, the other woman not so much. Her eyes were cold and bitter as she spoke to the other.
"This is where the demon attacked," she said. Inuyasha and Shippo exchanged looks at that. No one was really supposed to come here and it was extremely forbidden to establish contact with humans, let alone attack them.
A sigh filtered from the cheerful-looking girl's lips as she frowned. Her eyes glistened with some sort of empathy.
"That's the third time this week, how are we supposed to get the coal back if this keeps happening?" She wondered aloud. The other shook her head, becoming furious.
"I'll tell you, were going to set a trap for this demon and kill it!" She spat out with disgust. Shippo began to shake where he was, but Inuyasha only narrowed his eyes. It didn't make any sense. What demon was even attacking them?
"Now Kikyo, I don't think we need to go that far. No one's gotten hurt yet." The other stated. The one called Kikyo shook her well-manicured hair.
"Would you rather someone die first? They already made the first move, I say we fight back now!" Kikyo exclaimed, her anger getting the better of her. The other sighed
.
"Okay, okay, we'll set up a trap," she said. Kikyo nodded her approval now that the other girl had agreed.
"Alright, lets get out the ofuda then." Kikyo said as she grabbed a few slips of paper from up her sleeve. The other girl began to as well. They began to place them on the trees in their immediate vicinity.
"Inuyasha..." Shippo whispered as he elbowed the hanyou.
"We gotta go!" He added. Inuyasha shook his head and brushed him off a gesture of his hand. The girls seemed to lighten up as they went about their business.
"So, Kagome..." Kikyo said and Inuyasha melted at those words. He stared at Kagome, he loved her name. It was the perfect name, that much he decided.
"Everyone's talking about you and Hojo." Kikyo finished her statement. The words made Kagome's innocence evaporate as she seemed to become irritated.
"What about Hojo and me?" Kagome asked.
"Well, that hes apparently going to ask you to marry him." Kikyo said. Inuyasha looked at Shippo.
"Whats marry?" He mouthed, but Shippo only shrugged. he'd never heard of it.
"...and that your going to say yes?" Kikyo asked more than said. Kagome huffed as she slapped another ofuda onto a tree.
"Yeah, maybe in his wildest dreams!" Kagome muttered. Kikyo shook her head before she stopped what she was doing. She turned and faced Kagome.
"He is very capable and has a strong spiritual presence. You know whoever marries you will become the leader of our village, he would do good in that position." Kikyo scolded. Kagome shrugged her shoulders before she turned around now too, to face Kikyo.
"Look Kikyo, Hojo is a nice guy and all, but..." Kagome began to say.
"But what!?" Kikyo interrupted with a harsh tone. Even so, Kagome's eyes softened.
"I don't love him. He's so… Bland." Kagome explained. Kikyo put her hands on her hips.
"Kagome, this isn't about love, this is about what our village needs!" Kikyo said hotly. Kagome closed her eyes as a look of grief came onto her face.
"I'm sure I'll meet someone just as capable eventually, someone that I would actually love too, can't you understand that Kikyo?" Kagome questioned. Kikyo shook her head with a stubborn look.
"Look Kagome, if you don't find that someone before he asks you, then you better say yes!" It sounded like a threat. Kagome narrowed her eyes and faced downwards. She said nothing to that.
"Hey, do you feel that?" Kagome looked up as her eyes widened. Kikyo looked at her with annoyance before her eyes widened too.
"A demon, a powerful one too." Kikyo muttered. Shippo and Inuyasha exchanged looks yet again from the tree branch they were perched on.
The wind began to pick up, the trees all swayed with the violent force of air. The light that flittered through the branches seemed to dissipate. The ground suddenly shook with frightening force. It knocked the two humans off of their feet and they quickly got back up. Kikyo pulled a sutra from her sleeve and Kagome pulled the bow slumped across her body off and drew an arrow.
A howl sounded from beyond the brush before a giant, rabid looking wolf demon with fur covering its body from snout to tail jumped out, breaking trees with its force as it did so. It towered over the priestesses by several stories and Shippo was panicking because it could easily reach them. Inuyasha watched with interest, he was curious to see how the humans fought. He was also curious as to who this demon was and would interfere if need be. He was a prince, son of a lord, he had power to behold. He was sure he could help if need be.
The demon swiped its claws at the two girls. Kikyo rolled out of the way, but Kagome stumbled backwards and landed on her butt. Kikyo threw her sutra and it sparked blue on the demon's leg before falling off. It had no effect.
"Kagome… Its more powerful than we thought it was." Kikyo explained. Kagome was trying to get up, but found her foot stuck between a boulder and a huge rock that got thrown towards her when the demon swiped it's paw.
"Kikyo, I can't get up!" Kagome yelled. Kikyo began towards her, but the demon lowered its head and snapped its mouth at Kikyo. Kikyo had to leap with all her strength to escape from becoming a snack.
"Just go Kikyo, go!" Kagome yelled as she still tried to yank her foot away. Kikyo shook her head as she tried running towards her fellow priestess again. The wolf snapped its jaws again, Kikyo only dodged just in time.
"GO!" Kagome screamed with all of her might. Now the cold priestess' eyes misted over. She shook her head as her lower lip trembled.
"I'll get the others and we'll come back for you..." Kikyo said loudly as she dodged another attempt from the demon. Kagome stared back at her with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"I want to be put to rest next to Sota." Kagome called back. Kikyo's heart stopped at that.
"Don't talk like that!" She called before she had to fall to her knees and roll to her side to escape another paw swipe.
"Go… Kikyo." It was Kagome's last request. Kikyo stared at her a moment more before pressing her lips together. She turned and ran into the brush.
Kagome watched her for a moment before she went back to trying to yank her foot out. She tried another approach of grabbing the rock, but it was much too heavy.
"Come on foot, don't do this to me! Come on!" She was muttering to herself. The demon slowly turned it's head and it's eyes settled on her. Kagome felt it's gaze and snapped her head towards it. Her heart skipped a beat.
"I'm not afraid demon! Come! Try and kill me!" Kagome taunted as she reached for her bow that was just out of her reach. More tears squeezed out of her eyes. She wouldn't make it. She was sure she wouldn't make it. The demon began to stalk towards her, slobber dripping from its mouth as it hung its head low and growled with ferocity. It only disheartened Kagome more. It was closing in, it's mouth was widening, probably to gobble her up.
"Iron Reaver Soul Stealer!" The words were yelled loudly as Inuyasha jumped down from his perch and struck through the demon with his claws. He cut through it's tough hide like butter, splitting it in half. Inuyasha landed just in front of the girl. His bare feet were dirty and his clothing a bright red color. Kagome stared up at him, her eyes wide with fear.
Inuyasha stared at her for a moment. Even if she was scared, it didn't hide her beauty. She was a sight to behold. He felt like he could stare at her forever. His eyes drifted to her caught foot. He began to get closer towards her and lowered himself. Kagome kicked her other foot around and screamed out.
"Help! Help me!" She screamed, but Inuyasha pierced her with his golden eyes. She fell silent quickly from his serious gaze.
"I'm gonna get you outta this." He stated before he grabbed the large rock that pinned her foot against the boulder. As soon as she was free from it, she scooted back several feet.
"Why did you save me, demon!?" She demanded. Inuyasha cocked his head to the side as he stared at her with interest.
"Demons aren't supposed to attack humans, I don't know why that one did." He said kind of dumbly. Kagome narrowed her brown eyes at him.
"Well… Thank you then… Demon." Kagome said. She didn't really know how to feel about it all. She began to try to stand, but immediately fell over again due to her foot swelling up at a considerable rate.
"Here, let me help you." Inuyasha slipped his arm under her shoulders from behind and steadied her up.
She was shaking, he could feel the vibration of it. She glanced back at him through uneasy eyes.
"What are you going to do to me?" She whispered the question. She was obviously frightened. Inuyasha stared into the one eye that gazed at him.
"I'm gonna take ya to the edge of the forest. Your people will find you there." Inuyasha explained. A look of shock overcame Kagome.
"Your going to take me home?" She questioned. He nodded slowly.
"Yeah, and don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you." He said. She pulled away from his grasp quickly, but only fell down, forgetting about her injured foot.
"Lies, why would a demon help a human!?" Kagome questioned. Inuyasha frowned.
"Your the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, I've always wanted to see another human." Inuyasha admitted. Kagome gazed at him with curious wonder.
"Another?" She asked. Inuyasha nodded.
"My moms a human too." He explained. Kagome shook her head in astonishment.
"Now come on, lets get you out of here." Inuyasha held his hand out to her. She stared at it for a moment before finally taking it and he pulled her up.
Once Upon a Time, in the Land of Edo
AN: Well, hello. I've had this pilot of sorts for a mass connection of fairytales for Inuyasha, and decided to go ahead and post it. I don't know how often this will be updated(I gotta just watch Disney classics to get inspired again I think, shouldn't be too difficult.
Anyway, pairings will be Inutaisho/Izayoi, Inuyasha/Kagome, Sesshomaru/adult Rin, Miroku/Sango, and there may be more in the future, but as of now that's all the pairings I can think of. I'm excited for this story to kind of weave fairytales into the universe of Inuyasha. I won't list out who will get which fairy tale storylines, but I think that the chapter titles will be enough to imply which ones I'm basing off of. I will also be going in arcs, so the little hanyou will continue for a moment, and then eventually weave into the next storyline. Well, I hope that this was an enjoyable read.
It will take a second for the other pairings to come up as I still gotta finish up this first arc before moving on, but they will all be here eventually. Well, anyway, I hope that this first chapter was good. If it isn't obvious, I'm making Inuyasha be like Ariel from the little mermaid, writing the part where he puts a pot on his head cracked me up as I wrote it. I hope that it amused someone else as well. Well, thank you for reading, have a beautiful day or night.
