Chapter 3:
Jason rolled her out while Tommy held her hand as they all exited the elevator.
Kim looked at the large, dark haired man and the blond, blue-eyed woman in front of her and then over at the other man, further off to his right. Someone that seems strangely, vaguely, familiar, like a fragment of a dream.
"um...which one of you is Mr. Morningstar?" Kim asked. She didn't feel fear but she was a bit nervous.
The dark haired man stepped forward, "I am Lucifer Morningstar, my dear. This is my girlfriend Chloe Decker and my brother Amenadiel." Pointing at the dark skinned man.
Kim nodded a bit nervously, "Hi, my name is Kimberly hart. There is no easy way to say this, but my mother Caroline Hart told me that you're my father. I know this is shocking but I need your help."
"There are going to revelations today that are going to be even more shocking, my dear. I did expect you. My brother just informed me of your existence." Lucifer said seriously, "I don't even know if you will want my help after I told you about your origins." Lucifer sighed.
Kim and the boys looked confused. "Umm, okay, but how did he know? Sounds like you have a long story to tell too."
"Please, come in. Do you want something to drink?" Chloe asked sweetly.
"Um, water would be good, thank you." Kim said.
They entered the room more fully, Jason parked her next to the couch and he and Tommy took a seat next to her.
Chloe touched Lucifer's arm to let him know that she was there for him, no matter what would happen. Lucifer nodded that he understood her.
Chloe looked at the boys before asking, "would you like anything?"
"Water is fine. Miss Decker." Jason said politely.
Tommy nods, "For me too."
"These are my boyfriend Tommy and my honorary brother Jason." Kim introduced the boys by her side.
"It's nice to meet you." Chloe said before Lucifer could open his mouth, keeping him from saying something dumb.
"Before you ask for my help I want to tell you something. I don't know how religious you all are?" Lucifer asked. For the second time in his life he was afraid a girl he already cared about would run away from him.
"Well, not like the at church every Sunday type but enough to have the basics." Kim answered. She was getting curious where this was going, and knew the boys were to.
Lucifer sighed deeply, "What I will tell you and show you may come as a shock and if you don't want anything to do with me. I totally understand and I won't stop you. Just know that I would never harm you."
"Okay, even though that is what I'm hoping you'll be willing to protect me against." Kim said.
"You'll find we are rather open minded to the stranger things in life," said Jason.
"It's not that I don't want to help you, my dear. It's a case of you not running for the hills. I am sorry for the way I said it." Lucifer was trying to grab all his courage. Why he felt so much difficulty telling them was beyond him.
Kim and her companions looked confused.
Chloe handed them each a bottle of water.
"It's okay, babe. She needs to know. She deserves to know." Chloe smiled.
Lucifer sighed deeply, "Here goes nothing."
"My name, I am that person." Lucifer tried.
"What do you mean?" Kim asked.
"I am not just Lucifer, my dear I am /the/ Lucifer." The devil said.
Kim wasn't sure she believed him, "oh...okay." looking at Chloe to see if he
was kidding.
"I think you have to show them, brother." Amenadiel said.
Lucifer looked pained, not wanting to break her this way.
"Babe, you don't have to show the bad side just yet. Why don't you start with the eyes and the wings?" Chloe said to her devilish boyfriend, Seeing what Lucifer was thinking. She knew him too well.
"Very well." He sighs. Lucifer stood up and walked behind the couch. He needed space for this.
He shrugged his shoulders and let out his bright, white wings, while he closed his eyes and when he opened them, his eyes had a red color, they were almost glowing.
The three seemed slightly perturbed, but relatively un-phased otherwise. Kim said, "is that it?"
"That's not really the reaction I was expecting. I mean I did show you my angelic side not my monstrous side." Lucifer said, a bit shocked.
"We have seen worse, right guys?" said Tommy. Jason and Kim nodded at this.
"Are those actually real?" Jason asked
"This isn't bloody cosplay! Of course they are real." Lucifer remarked a bit pissed..
"You're not shocked to be a Nephilim, Miss Hart?" Amenadiel asked curiously.
At that point Kim said, "Huh? What is that?"
"That is when you are half angel, half human, my dear. Although I am a fallen one, I am still an angel." Lucifer said while he walked back to the couch. His eyes returned to their normal brown color and the wings put away again.
"You mean like a literal angel? Like the whole divinity and stuff?`` Kim asked, confused.
"I am the actual devil, my dear." Lucifer said.
"Whoa!" Kim said, they all seemed shocked, as the realization of what they were actually being told sank in.
It's Jason who is the first one to speak saying, "well that explains the temper."
Now it was Chloe's chance to comfort them, "Don't do the mistake I did. Lucifer isn't the embodiment of evil, He is the one who punishes evil. Don't run away. I learned from what I did but I almost lost the most wonderful person in my life beside my daughter."
"We know a little about punishing evil, so I'm not going to run. There is no place left to run to." Kim said.
Her comment confuses them all. What have they been into?
"What do you mean, my dear?" Lucifer asked, "Amenadiel do you know something you didn't tell me?"
Amenadiel shook his head, "No, Luci I have no idea."
"This would explain the blood thing," Tommy says to Kim.
"What blood thing?" Lucifer asked worriedly.
"um.. I think my blood type has changed. When I did a lab in science class last month I got one type, but when I was in the hospital they told me it was a different one, because they had to transfuse me. blood type doesn't normally change." Kim said.
"Typical angelic blood, Miss Hart. It self-actualizes." Amenadiel said.
"We angels self-actualize. For instance I opened up emotionally to Chloe for the first time, feeling that someone cared for the first time and I made myself vulnerable without knowing it. Amenadiel felt so guilty he lost his wings. I even lost my devil face, it healed when I felt better about myself." Lucifer explained.
"Okay, so it sensed a need and changed to suit it?" asked Kim.
"Yes, my dear. Now what can I do to help you?" Lucifer asked
"Can I hug my dad first?" Kim asked with a bit of hope that he would accept her as his daughter.
He looked a little surprised that she asked as well as accepted him so easily.
"I want to know if you are willing to accept me?" Kim asked, a bit worried.
"It should be the other way around, my dear." said Lucifer.
"Why? Because you have a bad reputation?" Kim asked, "I want to know the man behind the devil. I want to get to know my father."
"I want to get to know you as well darling." Lucifer smiled.
She opens her arms for a hug, Chloe nudges him forwards.
Lucifer stood up and walked towards her. dropping down onto his knees in front of her, he awkwardly tries to reach out a few times, but isn't sure how to do so to hug her. "Lucifer isn't used to hugging people he cares about. He finds it hard to do." Chloe explained
Kim took the initiative and reached out and wrapped her arms around him and held him close. Not long after he wraps his arms around her in return.
"Now what can I do to help you and why don't you have a place to go anymore?" Lucifer asked while he still sat on his knees in front of her.
"Well the man who until recently I thought was my father, who my mother divorced, is trying to use my accident as a reason to take custody of me away from her." Kim said before she went on to explain the whole story to him. The only thing she leaves out is the ranger stuff.
Lucifer's eyes flash red when he heard everything she said about the man, adding to what he already heard from his brother made his blood boil.
"I'll be a minor for two more years and I don't want him to get his hands on me. The possibilities frighten me. He told her he was on his way to claim me, so we left with the help of friends. He still thinks I'm in Angel Grove." Kim said.
"What if I recognize you as my flesh and blood?" Lucifer asked.
"That would help. My mom told him I wasn't his, when she talked on the phone yesterday. He was pissed. I'm worried about what he might do. Mom has already gone back to France to get away from him. We told her it was best." Kim said, "That's why Tommy and Jason are here with me. They are my bodyguards."
"Amenadiel, how can I claim her as my own? I am invulnerable again even around Chloe." Lucifer asked.
"We have to find a way to do a blood test," said Chloe, not sure how to do it.
"I am going to contact my lawyers immediately. This is going through the official way. I do have a few favors to speed things up." Lucifer said, "I want to make sure you're safe."
"Where are you staying?"Chloe asked curiously
"With Jason's uncle, in the apartment above his garage, where he works on cars." Kim said.
"Nonsense, you'll stay right here in the apartment underneath the penthouse. You and the 2 boys." Lucifer said, "You are under the protection of the devil. The elevator has a lock. I will improve the security. No one will be harming you." Lucifer said.
"My uncle said he was working on your car now." Jason said.
Kim looked at the boys with a pleading look. She wanted to stay close to her dad. Something about him made her feel safe.
Tommy said, "We can tell him we'll stay here. We are going to have to go back to tell him."
"So Jake is your uncle? He is a good man, he takes good care of my car." Lucifer smiled. "Why don't you leave Kim here and take Amenadiel with you." Lucifer added.
"okay." said Jason.
"You go, I'll stay here with kim." said Tommy.
Lucifer took his phone out of his pocket and called Donald. He wanted to put full time security at the elevator to make sure she was safe.
"Did you pack anything?" Chloe asked sweetly
"A little bag but not too much. It's in the jeep." Kim said.
"Why don't we go shopping in the morning. The good thing about an angelic father is that he is just a prayer away." Chloe smiled
"Okay." Kim smiled brightly
"Although between us. I fear that he is going to tag along. Lucifer can be slightly overprotective when he cares for someone." Chloe whispered while Lucifer was still on the phone, "I know he wants to be a better parent then his parents were so he is going to over compensate."
"Love, I know how we can get my blood." Lucifer suddenly said, as he hung up the phone.
"How?" she asked curiously.
"The one thing that makes me bleed. A dagger forged in Hell."
He rolled one in his hand. A dagger she only ever saw once in his hands. The dagger was dark steel and curved. A feather carved into it.
"Let me get a vile for it." Chloe said before she goes to get a syringe and an empty vile.
Kim just watched this not knowing what to say. The blade reminded her of the power daggers. Just darker in color, and surprisingly they looked duller than they really were.
"Babe, we need someone we can trust with this." Chloe said to Lucifer, "Why don't we ask Ella?"
"That's a brilliant idea, it's not like she believes me anyway about who I am." Lucifer said with a bright smile.
"It's possible after seeing your blood that she will start asking questions." Chloe responded.
"Who is Ella?" Kim asked curiously while she watched her father as he snapped the blade onto the skin of his inner arm, close to the elbow and sliced his skin open like it was nothing at all. She smiled when she saw with how much care Chloe inserted the needle to pull out some blood.
"She is someone we work with at the station.." Chloe explained to her, "She is our forensic scientist."
"What do you do that requires a forensic scientist?" Kim asks.
"I am a homicide detective." Chloe answers with a smile, and this is my devil/angel/civilian consultant." she went on to say.
"Wel, I think it will be good to have connections with the cops in case Mr. Hart tries anything foolish." Tommy suddenly responded.
"Oh but Mr. Hart would be a fool to mess with the devil. I have more connections than he can think of. I have lots of favors still to collect. If he wants to do it the legal way or less legal way I don't care. I can handle ten of such men." Lucifer said.
"That's strangely reassuring." Kim said with a smile on her face.
"My little starshine, nobody messes with the devil without coming to regret it. That also counts for messing with my flesh and blood." Lucifer said with a sort of possessiveness in his voice.
Kim smiles kind of liking how quickly he was taking to accepting her as his child and misses when his gaze flicks quickly to Tommy and then back to her.
He still didn't trust Tommy, the guy was too good to be true in his eyes. Not realizing just how good he was, for a human.
Kim watched at how the gash was gone almost instantly after Chloe removed the needle from his arm and was shocked at that. "wow! it's a shame I don't heal that fast." she said.
"It wasn't always like that near Chloe, my star." Lucifer said, "She used to make me vulnerable around her. Remember what I said about self actualizing."
Kim nodded, "yes I remember."
"Well that's what I was doing. emotional vulnerability, turned into a physical one. I know you only know me for short but it's time for your blood, my dear. I ask you to trust me." Lucifer said softly
"Okay, I trust you, but can you use a clean needle?"Kim asked while she rolled up her sleeve, "I had plenty of blood drawn at that hospital and had a transfusion."
"I thought of that." Chloe grinned
Lucifer cleaned the dagger from his own blood, "Don't worry my dear hell-forged steel is strangely sterile and I can't contract over human diseases." Lucifer said to comfort her.
"I don't think you'll need that but okay. she'll most likely be able to draw my blood without the blade, they did it often enough in the hospital." Kim said.
"See it as a sort of angelic bonding ritual, my star." Lucifer explained, "I read about it, it's a sort of a legend in the silver city. Never was it used before because nephilim's aren't common. This is me accepting you officially."
Kim looked unsure but was willing to give it a go as she had her right sleeve rolled up, her left hand was holding her boyfriend's to help her calm her nerves.
Lucifer sliced at the same place as he did with him and let Chloe do her job, "I need a soft feather from the top would you pluck one for me?" He asked as he shrugged and unfurled his wings once more.
Chloe rolled her eyes, "Are you sure, babe? Let me first draw some of her blood, okay." Chloe said
"Yes, I am. Trust me." Lucifer answered and nodded in response.
Kim squeezed Tommy's hand tighter as the sting of the blade's bite burned on her skin almost as if she could feel the flames it was forged in.
Chloe put the needle in the wound just like she did with Lucifer and filled the syringe. She wrote Kim's name on the vile before filling it.
Kim watched her do that, wondering what they were going to use to stop the bleeding.
"Hold this against it for a moment." Chloe said, giving her a fresh towel, "Don't worry the bleeding will be over before you know it."
"Okay." Kim said while letting go of Tommy's hand to do so.
"Now my devil do you mind kneeling for me." Chloe quipped.
"For you I would never mind" he smirked at her. He kneeled so that Chloe could reach the top of his wings. She plucked one with as little pain as possible.
She gives the glowing feather to her boyfriend.
"Thanks love,'' he said, taking the feather from her "It's best you now all close your eyes because this light will be blinding." Lucifer warned them.
They both nodded before doing as they were told.
"You too, love. I won't take any risks even with the eyes of a miracle." Lucifer said.
Lucifer waited until all eyes were closed before placing the small feather on the wound. The light coming from the feather was indeed blinding; they even noticed it with their eyes closed.
She felt the burn on her skin start to disappear. She once again held tightly to her boyfriend's hand. It was like a warm fuzzy feeling that covered the wound, it felt good, like being hugged.
The light dimmed as the feather disappeared into the wound, closing it. When it was done, Lucifer told them they could open their eyes.
Kim looked shocked when she saw that the wound was completely gone, "wow, totally morphinominal!"
"I wished I could heal your major wounds to my star, but that would require to much light which I don't know you will be able to handle. It's even risky for full angels to receive such healing. A small wound like that can't hurt." Lucifer sighed deeply.
"It's okay, I'm willing to do the work." Kim smiled softly.
"I understand, even though it would be nice to be able to skip p.t. and be back on my feet, no getting out of the work is there?" Kim asked.
He was about to answer her, when he noticed a quick shimmer of pink light which rolled quickly over her skin, almost like a static charge, from where the wound was out over the rest of her skin. Before he could blink, or even think about it, it was gone. making him wonder if he ever saw it at all. Unknown to him, what he had seen was a reaction of leftover Pink ranger energy reacting to the feather's power at work.
"I am afraid not." Lucifer said. Kim noticed he was really bummed about it.
"I will make sure you get the best help there is in Los Angeles." Lucifer said.
"That would be great! I'll be back on my feet before you know it. My gymnastics days might be behind me, but if I can walk it's all good." said Kim.

"You will walk again, my star. I would consult my brother Raphael but I am not really on speaking terms with my family." Lucifer sighed.
"It's okay dad… we have each other right. That's all we need?" Kim said blushing slightly.
Lucifer smiled softly, "Indeed we have each other now, my daughter." The devil did something that he normally never did, he wrapped his arms around her to pull her in a hug. With a tear rolling over his cheek.
Kim hugged him back, with the same emotion, "I'm so happy you're being so great about this, I was so worried you were going to reject me." Kim said with tears in her eyes.
"Why would I reject you, my star?" Lucifer asked still with his eyes wet with tears.
"Well you're a successful businessman and I turned up out of the blue and made such a bold claim, I wouldn't have blamed you for thinking I was trying to con you out of money or something." Kim answered with a sigh of relief.
"My brother has always been your guardian angel or at least he attempted to be one. Lucifer said, "That's why he could tell me about you before you arrived."
That made her smile through her tears, "I thought he looked vaguely familiar but I couldn't explain why."
"You wouldn't have hurt me with the money part anyway. I don't really care about it." Lucifer said, "I would have checked out your story."
Kim smiled, "Still it's a big relief that you want to help me. I wouldn't have known what else to do. I would be at Jason's uncle's place struggling for a next move at least now I've got some protection."
"My dear, you got the best protection you could wish for. Don't forget I am both immortal and invulnerable." Lucifer smiled, "Plus I am only a prayer away."
She smiled and wiped the tears out of her eyes, "that good to know and I have my own back up, just in case."
"My starlight, I'm going to give you a very special privilege. you can pray to my original name." Lucifer said.
"Your original name?" Kim asked, confused.
"I want you to use the name Samael if you are in trouble. I will be able to hear you and track you down if needed. That is only possible with the name Dad gave me." Lucifer explained, "This will stay between us though, I don't want anyone else to know, not even Amenadiel."
Kim draws an x over her heart with her index finger, "your secret is safe with me."
He takes her hand in his, "I don't really use that name anymore. For most part, Samael died when my Dad threw me in the fire pits of Hell. That's the reason I would never reject a child of mine. That I will always be there for you from now on as long as you will let me. I don't want to give my child the pain I felt."
"I understand that, I had enough of that during my parents divorce. it got ugly, and I was used as a pawn, or weapon at that time." Kim said.
Lucifer was about to say that in his case it was literally, that he was thrown into the fiery pits of hell, but the ding sound of the elevator stopped him. He turned to see Jason and his brother return.
"Did everything go alright?" Lucifer asked immediately.
"Yeah, uncle Jake was happy to hear things went well here." Jason responded, " and that if anyone tries to contact us there, he'll let us know." he added.
"Good, I think it's time we call Ella. I hope she will be able to do it." Lucifer said.
"Good idea. I'll get dressed so we can head to the station. Why don't you all come with us?" Chloe asked, "I think Ella wants to meet the daughter of the man she sees like a brother."
"So that would make her like an aunt?" Kim said with a teasing voice, "Can I bring the guys?"
"Of course you can." Chloe said before Lucifer could object. She knew how he thought about Tommy. A man too good to be true mostly was in his eyes. Since he is an expert in that field.
Even if he didn't want to be up this early, there were important things to be dealt with now and he wasn't against showing off his girl, even if she was in a chair at the moment.
Chloe sighed she had to talk to Kim about Lucifer. She was sure the young girl didn't even suspect half of what Lucifer had dealt with and that she had to give him time to open up to the boys and especially her boyfriend. So he could see that the boys were as good as she knew them to be.
She also knew she couldn't stop her boyfriend from saying stupid things. That came with his brutal honesty.
"Why don't you let me and Kim go shopping after this. You could show the boys the apartment." Chloe said.
Kim and Tommy looked at each other, "okay, sounds good. We can get things set up for Kim." Tommy said.
"Shopping with you would be good, it gives the guys a chance to do some bonding." Kim's face lit up while saying this.
"Is it a good idea to let you go on your own?" Lucifer asked in protest.
"I have a badge and a gun, I doubt there is much short of your family that can cause us trouble quite yet. We should have a day or two before we have to be on the lookout for Mr. Hart." Chloe says to her boyfriend, "Plus I know how to reach you, babe. It gives me the opportunity to get to know my future stepdaughter." Chloe added with a grin.
Jason smirked at that, "Kim loves to shop, you picked the right way to do that."
Lucifer gave Jason a good long look for the first time. Is he going to have to worry about him as well?
"I am not sure how much we can get. I don't have that much with me." Kim said with a sad voice.
Chloe took a golden card out of her purse, "Daddy is paying." She whispered.
Kim grinned and started to giggle, "Okay then."
Being the first time he heard her laugh, Lucifer couldn't help but smile at the musical tone of it.
"Come on, you guys can follow me in your car." Chloe said, "I am taking the cruiser, babe. That's easier for the wheelchair when we go shopping. Are you coming with me or do you want to take the red car?" Chloe asked.
"You can ride with us if you want." Tommy suggested.
It took a few moments for Lucifer to answer but this was what he needed time with the boys, "Alright, I will ride with them, get to know them on the way." This made Kim smile. He knew he made the right choice then and there.
The drive to the precinct only took 10 minutes so there wasn't much room to talk. So it was just uncomfortable silence for the guys.
Once they got there Tommy and Jason helped get the chair out of the car and set up the chair for Kim to sit in.
"Don't worry there is an elevator in the building." Chloe said, "otherwise you take advantage of having a dad with super strength." Chloe whispered
"Good to know." Kim smiled.
"I think he wants to do that anyway." Kim whispered back.
"You bet. I will tell you more about him when we are alone. There are some things my devilish angel will never admit." Chloe said
"I bet there are."Kim said, knowing a few things about keeping secrets herself.
"Come on, let's meet Ella." Chloe smiled.
They enter the station and head over to the elevator and find it being serviced.
"You got to be kidding me." Jason growled, "Now what?"
"I'll grab Kim, you grab the chair" Tommy said.
"No need for it boys, I got this." Lucifer said before he picked her up like she was one of his feathers.
"Let's go and make an entrance shall we, darling." Lucifer grinned.
Kim felt safe in the arms of her father. He had angelic strength and still he held her like she was a precious treasure. So she nodded with a smile, "okay let's have some fun."
Chloe shook her head and laughed. She already saw the resemblance.
Lucifer walked down the stairs, followed by Chloe, Tommy, who was carrying the chair and Jason.
They all watched as their entrance turned heads
"Hey Chlo, I thought you and Lucifer had the day off?" Dan asked when he saw them coming down, "There isn't a new case as far as I know."
Who are these people?" Dan asked next
"We just came in to talk to Ella. You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
said Chloe
"With someone like Lucifer, try me." Dan said, "I still don't know why you are in a relationship with a guy who thinks he is the devil."
"This is no time for a fight, Dan." Chloe growled in a whisper, "This is serious. Well, it's quite possible that she might be his daughter, and her friends. She might be in trouble and we need proof that Lucifer is the father as quickly as possible." Chloe added.
"Starshine, I want to introduce you to Chloe's ex-husband, detective douche." Lucifer grinned devilishly.
"Is that really your name?" Kim asked while she laughed.
Chloe smacked Lucifer's arm, "Behave yourself, Lucifer."
Tommy sets up the chair at the bottom of the stairs, "here you go, beautiful."
"Thank you, handsome." Kim smiled while Lucifer placed his daughter in the chair.
"This is detective Dan Espinosa, he is the father of my daughter Trixie." Chloe said, "Lucifer and Dan aren't the best of friends."
"Oh okay it makes sense then." Kim said.
"They can work together but that's about it. Dan doesn't approve of my relationship with Lucifer. Dan thinks Lucifer is delusional." Chloe explained, "He doesn't know the truth."
"Understandable." said Kim, "Some things can be a little too hard to wrap your mind around. Like angels and devils and superheroes."
"Superheroes?" Lucifer asked.
Kim smiles sweetly, "Didn't I tell you in my hometown we had our own superheroes."
"Oh, I can't seem to remember you telling us that, starshine." Lucifer said.
"It must have slipped my mind." Kim smiled.
Tommy and Jason had smug grins on their faces. A grin Lucifer easily misunderstood. He saw grins like that before.
"Have you ever heard of the power rangers?" Jason asked curiously.
"Power rangers?" Chloe asked, "No I don't think we ever heard of them. You, babe?"
"No, I can't say that I have." Lucifer said which was strange because he knew so much about everything that didn't involve human emotions.
That's when Dan said, "I have," that is when Kim's smile turned smug.
"Come on Ella is in the back." Chloe said, noticing how Kim's smile changed when Dan spoke up. "I will show you. and they all follow after Chloe.
"It is my day off, but something came up, and I knew you were just the person to help us." Chloe responded.
"What can I do to help?" Ella asked with a bright smile.
"Well, we need you to run a few tests on this and hands her two vials of blood. It seems that this young lady here who came to us today might be Lucifer's biological daughter. We just need to run the blood to prove it." Chloe responded, "This must need to be a secret Ella. I hope we can trust you to do this as quickly as possible."
"This needs to be kept a secret Ella. I hope we can trust you to do this as quickly as possible."
"Of course I can keep it a secret. Is she here now? Can I meet her? I mean big shock right? Are you okay with it?" Ella asked
"Of course, she is with us right now. Come on, I will introduce you. Why wouldn't I be okay with it? Lucifer accepted Trixie too." Chloe said
"Well, it could be a kink in the relationship, if there's one there could be others out there you don't know about."
"I knew what I started when I began my relationship with Lucifer, Ella." Chloe said, "Even if this was a surprise, it was always a possibility." She knew for sure that Kim was the only one but she couldn't explain that to Ella who didn't believe Lucifer to be the devil. So she just played it cool.
