Forty minutes later, Sam parked her truck in the parking lot when she saw general Hammond walk out and over to her
"Captain"
"General"
"There is a plane waiting for you on the tarmac"
"Thanks sir"
"Will you be ok"
"I will… someone's head is going to roll, I'm supposed to be on maternity leave"
"I'm sure you will sort things out"
"I know, thanks" then a jeep showed up
"Here your ride Sam"
"Thanks sir"
She walks over and manages to get in, then the jeep drives to the waiting plane. When the jeep stopped Sam thanked the airmen before getting out then she walked over to the steps and slowly walk up them and onto the plane where a lieutenant was waiting for her
"Captain Carter it an honour to meet you ma'am"
"Thank you lieutenant"
"This way ma'am, we will be taking off in a few minutes"
Sam followed the lieutenant down to one of the comfort seats, once she was seated and her seat belt was on, the lieutenant walked back up the front once again. Sam sat back and closed her eyes for a few minutes then she quickly opened then when she felt some one kissing her
"Jack," she said in surprise, he smiled.
"Hi sweetheart" he sat next to her and put his seat belt on
"What are you doing here?"
"George told me what was happening and asked if I wanted to go to Washington to keep you company on the trip, so here am I" Sam held on to his hand
"Thanks Jack" then they heard the engines start up
"How are you feeling?"
"Sore, tied, hungry… I've handed in my maternity notice this afternoon"
"You did the right thing Sam"
"I know, one of our sons was pushing on my back this afternoon and my feet are swollen and sore as"
"When we get home I'll run you a bath and afterward, I'll massage your legs and feet, how does that sound?"
"Mmm sounds wonderful to me Jack"
"Good and you heard what the doctor said about getting plenty of rest"
"I know… bed rest for me for the next few months"
"Yeah, but I'll make sure that there are plenty of snacks in the house"
"I know you will Jack" then they felt the plane moving.
Minutes later they were in the air. Then the lieutenant walked over to them with a bag and drinks in hand; he passed them to Jack then walked back to where he was after Jack thanked him.
He passes Sam the milkshake and watches her drink it while letting out a moan. He knew she was happy. When she drank half of it she sat back after she put her drink in the cup holder then turned to him
"Thanks, Jack, just what I needed"
"I know you always get yourself a milkshake on the way home from work and you have" he pulled out a bag of grapes
"These when you get home"
He passed Sam the bag and watched her eat the green grapes, then he pulled out a paper bag which had two cake slices in it, he passed them to Sam and watched her munch on them while he was stroking her stomach. When she finished she took a few more sips of her drink, then he passed Sam a big packet of salted potato chips and dip that she loved. He watches her eat them happily while they talk.
When she finished and all the rubbish was put in the bag, Sam tiled the seat a bit then looked at Jack
"Thanks for the snack Jack"
"You're welcome, why don't you get some rest"
"Good idea" Jack leaned over and gave Sam a kiss.
"Sweet dreams"
"Thanks" he gave her another kiss
Then move back over to his seat and watch Sam close her eyes and fall asleep seconds later. Jack watches her for a few minutes before he turns his head and looks out the window thinking about Sam and the twins. He knew she could take care of herself at home but he still worried about her, so he decided to give Elizabeth a call and talk to her when they returned back home that evening.
Just before the plane landed Jack woke Sam up "Sam"
"Mmm"
"Sam wake up sweetheart" she opens her eyes and smiles when she saw Jack look at her
"Jack, what wrong?"
"We are going to be landing in fifteen minutes" Sam looked around and nodded
"Ok can you help me up I need to go to the bathroom"
"Sure" Jack stood up and helped Sam to stand
"Thanks" then she walked over to where the toilet is and walked in.
Jack stayed where he was till Sam returned, when she did a few minutes later, Jack had already had the seat up right. He helped Sam back into the seat and made sure her seat belt was on before he sat down and did the same, then he held on to her hand.
"Feeling better?" he asked,
"Yeah, just tired"
"I know, tomorrow you can sleep all day if you want to"
"Thanks, I might just do that"
Few minutes later the plane landed and they were walking off the plane. Jack stays close to Sam just in case she trips while going down the steps. When they got to the bottom of the steps, a limo showed up for them.
Jack helps Sam into the limo then they are on their way to the pentagon. They were lost in their own thoughts till the back door opened. Jack got out first then he helped Sam out, then they walked into the pentagon and down to the briefing room.
When they got there, the two airmen opened the doors for them and they walked and stopped just after the doors closed, they stood at attention and saluted. When the Chief of staff looked ups and saw who it was he saluted them back
"At easy colonel, captain" Then they relaxed and took a few step ford
"Please sit down Captain"
"Thank you sir" Jack helped Sam to sit down.
"What can we do for you both?" Jack and Sam look at each other then to the general
"General Webb ordered me here sir… Jack came to make sure that I'm ok sir" chief of staff was shocked that General Webb ordered a pregnant air force officer to fly to Washington in her condition.
"Colonel what is your reason for being here?"
"Geranial Hammond told me what was happening and asked me if I wanted to fly here with Sam to make her and our child be ok… And to get her, her afternoon snack otherwise you would have to deal with a hormonal cranking pregnant tired captain on your hands sir"
He nodded knowing what jack is talking about his wife went through it four times, he knew what her mood swings was like and her cravings
"I understand and I can see Captain Carter is happy…excuse me" then he walked out of the room to next door, they look at the other generals when they heard
"General Webb I need to talk to you in the briefing room… yes now" then they heard him hang the phone up. They look at the door and watch him walk back out and sit down
"General, what's going on?" Jack asked,
"I told General Webb not to call Captain Carter in… Captain I'm sorry you came all this way for nothing"
"I understand sir… I did tell General Webb over the phone that I'm on maternity leave, but he ordered for me to get on a plane and get here"
"How long have you been on maternity leave captain?"
"Since 1800 hours sir you can contact General west at the academy sir"
"We already knew about the letter, General west contacted me half an hour after you left his office" General Ryan said
"Oh" then the double doors open and general Webb walks in and stops, he stands at attention and salutes which the chief of staff does in return.
"You wanted to see me sir"
"Yes, why did you disobey my orders"
"What orders sir" then Sam swung the chair around, General Webb was shocked to see Sam there but it was the size of her which shocked him the most
"Captain Carter"
"Yes sir, we think we know why you are here, don't you sir" he looks from Sam to the chief of staff
"Care to explain general"
"Sir we do need the captain's help"
"I'm aware of the general… I was planning on sending General Ryan to Colorado Springs in the morning since Captain Carter is on maternity leave"
"Sorry sir I didn't know"
"Well now you do now… Captain Carter" Sam turns the chair around
"Yes sir"
"Sorry for what General Webb has done"
"Sir you shouldn't be the one apologising"
"True, is there anything I can help you with while you're here in Washington?" Sam smiled
"Yes there is one restaurant I haven't been to since I was at high school"
"Sam you mean that hot dog place?" Sam smiled
"Yep it's called 'Ben's Chilli bowl,'" she said smiling
"I know that place Captain… since it is almost 2000 hours and you are most properly hungry, you can go there for dinner then return to Andrew air force base"
"Thanks sir… Jack can you" Jack step ford and help Sam up and out of the chair.
They both saluted the general, which he did in return before walking out of the briefing room while talking. When they walked outside to the waiting limo, they got in and Sam told the driver where to go first, then they were on their way to the restaurant. Sam told Jack about the place and what they got their, she laugh when he said "hot stuff"
When they got to the restaurant Jack helped her out and Sam spoke to the driver
"Come and get in at 2200 hours"
"Yes ma'am enjoy your evening"
"We will thank you" then they walk into the restaurant and look around, a waitress walks over to them
"Evening, I'm sorry but this place is full this evening." Sam looked around and smiled
"We will be over there," Sam said then she walked over to a table
"Which Table"
"Bring the menus ma'am" Jack said then follow Sam. When she got close to the table
"Mind if we join you" the three looked up and was shocked
"Sam" they all said at the same time
"Hi mum, dad, grandma" then Jack walked up behind her
"Jack this is a surprise, please, sit down"
"Thanks" Jack helped Sam sit down then he sat next to her
"We were lucky to get this table tonight"
"We know that Tuesday is the busiest night here," Sam said then the waitress passed them their menus.
Jack told the waitress what he wanted then Sam did. She orders two hotdogs, and two chips with cheese and chilli sauce, cake and other food and banana milkshake. When they finish Jack passes the menus back and she walks away
"Sam you must be hungry" Grace said,
"I am"
"What are you doing here in Washington?" Jacob asked
"General Webb ordered me here for a meeting… the chief of staff is not happy with the general"
"I bet ordering a pregnant air force officer to fly here… did he know you are pregnant?"
"Yes and I told General Webb that I'm on maternity leave, he didn't listen and now, he is in hot water"
"I bet he is, how are you anyway Sam?"
"Hungry dad" she said smiling making her mother laugh
"What so funny" he asked his wife
"Oh Jacob, remember you used to ask me that same question when I was pregnant with both Sam and Mark and Sam said the same thing I said"
"Ah… funny" they all grin
"How are you feeling… besides hungry Sam" Grace asked
"I had my ups and downs in the past couple of days"
"Hormones" Jack said
"I know what that was like, you seem ok now" Elizabeth said
"I am, Jack does try to cheer me up like last night" she held onto Jack hand
"What happened?"
"Jack cooked up a lovely meal last night, not long after he left I started crying, when he came and saw me, I tried to apologise about dinner, he knows me all too well… he asked me what I wanted so I told him"
"What was it… cravings?" Jacob asked
"Double meat lovers pizza"
"Ah"
"With sweet chilli sauce on top and slice strawberries and Chinese food" Jack said Jacob raised an eyebrow, Grace and Elizabeth just grin
"That sounds horrible" Jacob said
"Hey at least it made her happy"
"Jack watched me eat it while he was rubbing my stomach"
"Well at least Sam is happy"
"I am mum" while talking they were sending Morse code to each other.
"Sam you look too big for four months" Her mother said
"I am, my doctor said I'm five months and…"
"What?" Jacob asked Jack and Sam to look at each other and smile then turn to the others.
"Sam, Jack what is it?"
"No one knows about this… the reason why I'm huge is…"
"We are having twins" Jack said They saw the shock look on Jacob, Grace and Elizabeth faces
"Twins" Jacob, asked
"Yes dad, twins and if I reach full term twins will weigh over eight pounds each"
"Wow that is wonderful news Sam"
"Thanks grandma but now I'm on maternity leave and soon to be on bed rest, jack is worried about me being at home alone if he gets called away"
"Well Jack if you need someone to take care of Sam while you're called away, let me know"
"Thanks Elizabeth"
"Don't worry about getting her to Colorado Springs, I can take care of that part, who is the CO of Peterson air force base?" Sam smiled
"Uncle George is" Jacob looks at her
"George… George Hammond"
"Yep and General west is the CO at the academy"
"I remember him"
"So what are you guys doing in Washington?"
"Transferred back here, we were going to call soon as we have found a place" Jacob said
"Ah, so back to the pentagon then?"
"Yes"
"Ok" They talk for a few minutes till their dinner showed up.
