PREVIOUSLY ON HERO, SAVIOR, MINE: Kurt returned to school for the first time since the attack. Kurt had a doctor's appointment and they were able to see and hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time.

**Puck & Kurt**

The teens waited for Burt by the Puck's truck; Kurt wrapped in the bigger teen's embrace, back to chest. They couldn't stop staring at the sonogram Kurt was holding. "What did you think, Angel?" Puck asked.

"That was absolutely unbelievable. I knew I was pregnant, had the morning sickness and all, but this just made it even more real. There's a legit human being growing inside me." The awe was obvious in the young man's voice.

The jock hugged him closer, "no other word for it than amazing. You're amazing. Our baby is amazing. I'm so proud of you, Kurt. You're so brave and strong."

Kurt sniffled, "thank you Noah."

"Hey, boys. Y'all okay?" Burt asked, coming upon them.

"We're fine dad. You get things set up?"

"All is good to go. Noah, I have something I wanted to give you." Burt reached into his right front pocket and pulled out a newly cut key. "I want you to have this key to the house. I want you to feel welcome; you're family now. And I figure it'll come in handy in case Kurt has an emergency in the middle of the night like he did earlier in the week."

Puck was shocked when he took the key from the elder Hummel, "are you sure, sir?"

"Absolutely."

"Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you."

"You're welcome. What you boys got planned for the evening?"

"Actually, dad, I was hoping that we'd go drop off a copy of the sonogram to Ruth and then Noah could spend the weekend at our house. Would that be okay?" Kurt asked his dad.

"If Noah wants to, and Ruth says it's okay, then yeah that's fine."

"Thanks, dad," Kurt grabbed his dad in a hug. "Don't tell Carole about the appointment yet, okay? I wanna talk to her when we get back to the house."

"My lips are sealed." He mimed zipping his lips shut making the boy laugh.

"We'll see you at home."

"Drive safe," Burt advised. He watched as the teens loaded up and left the parking lot behind.

**Kurt & Puck**

Puck opened his front door, gesturing for Kurt to walk in before him. As he shut the door behind him, he glanced in the living room looking for his ma. She wasn't in there so he figured she'd be in the kitchen. He grabbed the pale hand and pulled him there. When he saw her at the kitchen sink, he came up behind her giving her a hug. "Hey, Ma."

"Hello, Noah. Hi, Kurt," she smiled.

"Hello, Ruth. How are you today?" Kurt asked.

"I'm doing well. How are you?"

"I'm great. We actually have something for you." Kurt swung his satchel up onto the counter. "Noah, do you have any scissors?"

"Yeah, babe." He found some in the can they kept on the counter for pens and such. "Here you go."

"Thank you." Kurt retrieved the sonogram pictures from his bag and separated them with the scissors. "Would you like to do the honors?"

"Really?"

"Of course, she's your mother. I get to do Carole."

"Deal." Puck took the sonogram and turned to his mom. "We got this today," he held the picture out for his mother to take. "We want you to have a copy."

His mother took it gently, eyes welling with tears. "It's beautiful. The appointment went well?"

"Doc said Kurt and baby are nice and healthy. They're gonna keep an eye on Kurt's blood pressure as time goes on just to be safe. And we got to hear the heart beat. Beautiful and strong," Puck said with pride.

"That's wonderful boys," she grabbed the teens in a hug. "I'm glad to hear that. And thank you for this. It means a lot." She released the boys and got a napkin to wipe her tears.

"No prob, Ma. Is it okay if I spend the weekend at Kurt's place? Burt said that as long as you say it's okay that it's cool."

"Sure, son." She barely got that out before he dashed off to his room to pack a bag.

Ruth and Kurt shared an amused smile. "Ruth, I wanted to thank you for the lunch you packed for us. I was so anxious about today that I didn't even think about it. It was wonderful."

"You're more than welcome Kurt. I figured you'd be nervous. How did school go?" She took the sonogram and stuck it to the refrigerator with a magnet.

"School was good. Noah was more than wonderful. Took care of me all day long. I didn't have a moment to freak out even if I wanted to," he said with a laugh.

Ruth couldn't contain her smile, "I'm so proud of that boy."

"Thanks, Ma," a voice rasped from the doorway. It wasn't often that he did something to make his ma proud of him. He dropped his bag and rushed to give his ma a big hug. "I'm glad I can make you proud for once. I'm sorry I've been such a shit."

"Noah!" Ruth admonished with a grin and a swipe at his arm. "You haven't been a shit for awhile."

The jock laughed, "'bout time." He looked to the smaller teen, "you ready to go?"

"Ready if you are." Kurt retrieved his bag and gave Ruth a hug goodbye. "Thanks again, Ruth. Have a good evening."

"You, too, sweetheart. You behave yourself Noah."

"Of course. If you end up needing my help with Sarah, give me a call, okay?"

"All will be fine son. You boys have fun." She watched with a smile as the two teens got their things and left the house. She took a moment to look at the sonogram once more before getting to work on dinner. She's glad the boys had a good day. They deserved it.

**Kurt & Puck**

It was Kurt's turn to pull the other teen into his house. "Dad? Carole?" he shouted.

"In the kitchen, son," his dad called back.

Kurt grabbed Puck's hand with a giant smile, all but dragging him into the other room. "Carole, I have the most wonderful news." He dumped his bag on a chair and was practically bouncing on his feet. Puck and Burt shared an amused look. "You'll never guess –"

"What the hell is Puck doing here?" a voice snapped from the doorway.

"Finn!" Carole admonished.

"We have a project to work on Hudson," Puck spit out a reasoning they had used before. He sent a look Burt's way that clearly said starting to see what I was talking about now?

"Another project? Since when do you do homework?"

"Finn, watch yourself. I raised you with better manners than that. Kurt can have any friends over that he wants."

"Ha! They're not friends. What are you doing, Puck, bullying Kurt into doing your work for you?" Finn asked nastily.

"Unlike some people, I have a brain and know how to use it properly. Don't pretend like you really know me." He cleared his throat and gathered his and Kurt's bags. "I'll be back in a minute." He took their things to the basement, hoping that Finn would shut his mouth about him if he was no longer in the room. When he returned to the kitchen it was to find the tall teen absent. "Sorry about that."

"Noah, you don't need to apologize. You didn't do anything wrong," Burt assured him. "He was out of line. I'll have a talk with him when he gets back home. He went to Sam's place; something about a video game marathon the guys were having this weekend."

"Please don't, Mr. H. It'd probably just make things worse. He'll get his head out of his ass at some point. There are more important things going on. Did you tell Mrs. H yet, Kurt?" He asked, placing the sonogram that he grabbed from Kurt's bag face down on the table.

"Not yet." He started bouncing again in excitement, removed the hoodie he was wearing and laid it over the back of the chair. He grabbed the picture and stood in front of his stepmother. "I had an appointment today. This is yours."

Head tilted in confusion, she took the photo from her stepson's grasp. Her eyes widened in wonder. "Oh, Kurt." She rubbed her finger over the image. "How was it?"

"Wonderful. Unbelievable. So many things," he said with a laugh.

"It's a moment you'll never forget, that's for sure." She wrapped the teen in a hug. "I'm so happy for you Kurt."

"We heard the heart beat too. We all totally cried."

"I'm sure that was a sight to see: three tough men crying over a precious little baby."

"Hey now. It was very manly crying," Burt defended with a smile.

"Of course it was sweetheart." Carole shared a smirk with Kurt. "Now, what would you gentlemen like for dinner tonight?"

"Kurt? Anything in particular you want?"

The boy chewed his lip in thought. "Hmm… can we have spaghetti? And garlic bread?"

"Carole?"

"If that's what you want dear," she replied with a smile.

"Yum!" Kurt exclaimed. "I was thinking I'd make some cookies and stuff. I'm craving something sweet. And I wanted to make something special for Noah."

"Kurt –"

"Nope, don't even try to talk me out of it. I'm a man on a mission. Plus I'm hormonal."

Puck laughed and raised his hands in surrender. "As you wish, Angel."

Kurt was grateful to have this time with his family, minus Finn. He was able to change into some comfortable lounge pants and a plain black t-shirt; enjoying not having to hide. After he had made his way back to the kitchen, Puck had lovingly rubbed the barely there baby bump. The pregnant teen ran a hand through the boy's mohawk before he pushed Noah and his dad into the living room so he could start baking with Carole. The rest of the evening was spent with Burt and Noah bonding over sports while watching ESPN and Kurt and Carole cooking together, making some delicious sweets, and talking about the baby. It was a truly perfect day for Kurt, and all of those who loved him were glad he got it. He deserved it.

**Puck & Kurt**

The glee boys, minus Kurt and Puck, were several hours into their video game marathon when Finn started venting. "Dudes, Puck was at my house again. He said he and Kurt had a project to work on."

"I didn't think they had any classes together?" Sam asked. Mike and Artie shared a look, but kept quiet.

"What?"

"Dude, what class would they have together? Kurt's, like, super smart. I can't see Puck in any smart classes."

"Then what the fuck is going on? This doesn't make sense. I don't like it."

Artie, desperate to change the subject, started ranting about another video game they hadn't played yet that evening. With Artie's distraction, Mike took out his phone and shot Puck a quick text. He needed a head's up about Finn.

**Kurt & Puck**

Later that night, Kurt and Noah were settling into bed, Kurt taking his usual place with his head on the jock's chest. "Today was absolutely wonderful."

"Fuckin' perfect. Sorry about Finn."

"Don't apologize for him. Dad told you that earlier and I'm telling you now. That's all on him."

Puck's phone's text alert put a halt to their conversation. "Shit, I better check that. Hopefully nothing's wrong with Ma and Sarah." He opened the text and his eyes widened, "whoa."

Kurt propped himself up on his elbow. "What's wrong?"

"It's from Mike. He wanted to warn me that Finn's bitching about me being here. Apparently you're too smart so there's no way I have a class with you, thus no project that we're working on."

"Bull-fucking-shit," Kurt spat.

Puck's jaw dropped, "did you just cuss, Angel?"

The pale teen laughed, "I cuss. Especially when I'm angry. It's also fun watching the surprise on people's faces when they're not expecting it."

The jock huffed a laugh, placed his phone back on the bedside table, and relaxed back into his comfortable position, pulling Kurt back into his spot. "Do you know how awesome you are?"

"I always knew it. Glad someone else can appreciate it though," he quipped.

"Yeah, yeah."

"So what are we going to do about this?"

"Do what I told your dad when we had our talk. We'll let him know what Finn is going on about just in case. I knew this was gonna happen, but I prayed it wouldn't."

"We'll get through this Noah."

"I know we will. Let's not think about Finn anymore. Thanks for that pecan pie you made. It was delicious."

"I'm glad you liked it. You'll have to finish it tomorrow or Sunday or else Finn will come home and devour it."

"Nah, he ain't getting any of that. Not between me and your dad." When Kurt let out a big yawn, Puck wrapped his arm more firmly around the boy. "Close your eyes, Angel."

Kurt settled in with relieved sigh, "night Noah."

Puck held the teen as he slipped into sleep. Kurt was right, the day was wonderful. He vowed to himself, once again, that he wouldn't let Finn screw all this up. He'd talk to Burt tomorrow. For now he let himself drift off to the rhythm of Kurt's breaths.

**Kurt & Puck**

Puck awoke to the sound of Kurt heaving in the bathroom. "Shit." He got out of bed and made his way into the bathroom. He grabbed the usual glass on the vanity, filled it with water, and kneeled next to the pale teen, rubbing soothing circles into his back. "You shoulda woke me up, babe."

"I didn't need to wake you just so you could watch me throw up." Kurt took the glass from his hand and rinsed his mouth. He slowly made his way to his feet, flushing his sick down the toilet. He took a moment to brush his teeth before heading to sit on the end of his bed. "I'm sorry I woke you."

The jock sat beside him, taking the smaller hand in his. "Don't apologize."

"But you looked so peaceful. I didn't want to disturb you."

"Angel, it's fine. Really. Stomach calm down?"

"Yeah, I feel okay for now. I think I'm gonna head up for my usual buttered toast. Feel free to go back to bed. It's still kinda early; about 7:30."

"It's okay. I think I'll join you." The teens slowly made their way upstairs. They were greeted to the sight of Burt in his usual spot at the table, newspaper in front of him, and Carole at the stove.

"Morning, boys. Sleep well?" asked Burt.

"Morning, dad. Carole. I slept like a baby. At least until the morning sickness woke me." Kurt pushed Noah into a chair and went about pouring them some orange juice.

"Thanks babe," the jock sent him a smile.

"Kurt, honey, I'll put your toast in the toaster for you. Have a seat," she ordered. "And, Noah, do eggs and pancakes work for you?"

"You're an angel, Mrs. H," he replied. He waited until Kurt had his buttered toast before he addressed Burt. "Mr. H, I got a text last night that I think you need to know about."

Burt laid his newspaper aside, "what about?"

"Mike sent me a text letting me know that Finn really isn't happy with me being here. He wanted to warn me that he's getting worked up. Therefore I wanted to warn you. Especially after our talk last week. I don't know what he's going to try, but you deserved to know what's going on."

"Thanks for letting me know. You boys just keep me informed."

"I don't know what's gotten into Finn. I didn't raise him like this," Carole said.

"You're a great mom, Mrs. H.," Puck assured her. "Finn just doesn't like me, and I can't say I blame him. Hopefully something else comes along and diverts his attention."

"Like Burt said, let us know." Carole plated their breakfast and sat it before them. "Dig in." The four enjoyed a peaceful and relatively quiet meal. Kurt and Puck spent the rest of the day watching movies, doing homework, and talking, simply enjoying each other's company. Around noon on Sunday Puck was, unfortunately, called by his mom, asking him if he could come keep an eye on Sarah because she was called into the hospital to work a shift. Kurt was sad to see the jock leave. It was like a little bit of sunshine left with him. He watched the boy's truck pull away from the house, then joined his father in the living room. He'd enjoy this time with his dad, just the two of them (with some appearances by Carole). Monday and school would be here soon enough. Along with his first glee club meeting since the attack.
