The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Mr. and Mrs. Hinata!
"Alright Mr. Hinata, Miss Naegi, just sign on the dotted line and you'll be legally married." The clerk told them as she handed them the sheet of paper and pen.
Hajime accepted the pen first, quickly signing his name, then handed it to Komaru who took a deep breath and began to sign her own name. The flash of a camera made her wince and groan as she finished signing her name, causing her to turn to her parents, brother, sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
"Mom, are the photos really necessary?" Komaru asked as Hajime handed the form back to the clerk. "This isn't even a real wedding; we're just signing the marriage license so we can be legally married."
Hana smiled and replied "But dear, this is a joyous occasion. It's the day you're finally getting married to the boy you love!"
Shingi nodded and agreed "That's right, Komaru. Today's the day you're officially married, even if you're waiting a little while before you guys do an actual wedding. So we need to preserve this memory!"
Makoto nodded and commented "Yeah, Komaru. We know you're putting off an actual ceremony until after the baby comes so you guys can focus on finding an actual house to raise them in, but we're still your family and we wanted to be there when you get legally married."
Komaru looked down and placed her hands on her baby bump, wincing and smiling as she felt them kick.
"Okay, okay, I get it. It really is sweet that you all came to watch, even if there's not much pomp and circumstance."
The others smiled as Makoto asked "So how's the house search going? You know you guys are free to stay at our place if you need to, right? We've certainly got rooms we're not using."
Komaru shook her head and declined "Thank you, but we'll be fine. We've still got that apartment of yours, and you were able to use that as a stopgap when Kiki was a baby, so we'll be okay until we find something. Also…"
"Also…?" Kyoko asked curiously before Komaru sighed.
"I want to be on my own, husband and baby notwithstanding, and really be my own person, outside of being Makoto and Kyoko Naegi's little sister. And…part of me feels like that's harder to say with a straight face if we share room and board like we did when we were kids."
"I see…so you're afraid of living in my shadow?" Makoto asked with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"You're an amazing man, brother, husband, and father, Makoto. But this is really important to me. I once said that I'm not you, and you're not me. I want to be known as Komaru Nae…Hinata, not just the little sister of the Ultimate Hope."
Makoto smiled softly and replied "I understand. I often felt the same way about my classmates at Hope's Peak. If you want to make it out on your own steam, I respect that."
"You'll still come to visit us, right Aunt Komaru?" Kiki asked.
"Ne, Aunt Komaru?" Mokubo asked.
"Please, Aunt Komaru?" Koto and Kiri pleaded, causing her to giggle and kneel to their level as she hugged them all in one big group hug.
"Of course I'll still come and visit you all. You're all too cute to stay away from!"
After she released her nieces and nephews and stood up, Hajime answered "About the housing situation…we're looking at a couple of small houses this coming weekend that we're interested in. We're hoping to settle on one and make a bid by the end of the month."
Hana smiled and commented "That's wonderful news. When you do decide on one, let us know so we can help you with the moving in."
"Will do, Mrs. Nae…Mom…" Hajime smiled bashfully as he apologized "Sorry, force of habit."
Komaru smiled at her husband before she glanced at her belly and playfully teased her brother "I still can't believe we got pregnant during our first time. This is all your fault, Onii-chan!"
"Me? How is it my fault? Hajime's the one who fathered the child, not me!"
"You're the Ultimate Lucky Student! Your luck must have rubbed off on me and mixed with his!"
The others laughed at Komaru's teases, except for Makoto and Hajime, who blushed in embarrassment.
"Ano…pardon me for interrupting the family moment…" The others quieted down and turned to face the clerk, who handed Komaru and Hajime the paper and explained "But I just finished processing the marriage license. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Hinata."
"Thank you." Hajime replied, making the clerk smile and nod before she walked away from the window and back to her desk.
"Well, let's get one last photo, shall we?" Hana suggested as she held up her camera. "Komaru, Hajime, hold up your marriage license so we can see it."
Komaru sighed, then smiled as she and Hajime held up the license in front of them.
"Alright, say cheese!"
"CHEESE!"
Flash!
Komaru and Hajime blinked, momentarily blinded by the flash. Hana smiled as she glanced at her camera for a brief second before focusing her gaze back on her daughter and son-in-law.
"Okay!" Shingi clapped, getting their attention. "What do you say we celebrate by going out to dinner? My and your mother's treat!"
"Oh, yay, free food!" Komaru exclaimed. "I'm starving, especially now that I'm eating for two!"
Hajime laughed as he replied "Come on then, I'll make sure you two get plenty to eat."
As the family smiled and walked out of the municipal building, they failed to notice a smiling spirit with a retro Galaga pin in her hair, watching them with joyful eyes.
"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Hinata…"
