The next day could not come fast enough for Lucifer. He was pacing back and forth so much that he would probably wear a hole down to Hell. Everything for tonight was set in motion. He had perfectly recreated their first date. Well, that was minus the flight attendant who turned up dead. He had just put the finishing touches on their food. It was burgers and fries, no ketchup of course. There were two glasses along with a bottle of wine.
After dinner, he would suggest they take a walk on the beach. It was the same beach where he had fallen over five years ago. It was also where they had their first kiss. He had told her that he had realized that it would never work out between them. So he promised to stop trying to make moments happen between them. He claimed that she deserved someone much better than him. She needed someone as good as her and understood that every crime scene breaks her heart. That she needed to find someone who appreciated her boring middle name. She was more special than anyone he had ever known in all his time on Earth.
His trip down memory lane is cut short by the buzzing of his phone. He picked it up off the coffee table and smiled upon seeing a text from his Detective.
Detective: on my way up 3
Lucifer: can't wait Darling 3
Not long after, the elevator dinger and out stepped his Detective. She looked positively sinful in the red blouse she wore their first night together. It was almost as if she dressed with him in mind. He was currently dressed in his maroon three piece suit, topped off with a patterned handkerchief.
"Like what you see?" she teased.
"Absolutely, you look stunning Darling," he replied, taking her in. "So, shall we?"
"So, what's the occasion?"
"I figured why not recreate our first date that was so rudely interrupted. I prepared hamburgers and fries, with no ketchup of course. We can even take a walk on the beach and come back up for dessert," he purred into her ear as he came up to her.
"That sounds amazing," Chloe replied before kissing her.
Lucifer had no idea how long they had been sitting there but he doesn't care. He could spend eternity just sitting there and being with her.
"So, how about that walk?" Chloe suggested after her third glass of wine.
"That sounds good to me Darling," Lucifer replied.
He lets her lead the way to the elevator while discretely making sure the ring was still in his pocket. It was fifteen minutes later that they arrived at the beach. Lucifer immediately ran over to the passenger side to open the door for her. He was a gentleman after all.
"May I give you a hand milady?" he asked, offering her a hand.
"Why thank you my good sir," she replied before a thought came over her. "Lucifer, how am I supposed to walk across the beach in heels?"
"Trust me Darling, I thought of everything," Lucifer replied as he pulled out two pairs of flips flops from the backseat.
Chloe couldn't help but laugh at how adorable and thoughtful he could be at times. Of course he had thought of everything. She had no doubt that the flip flops were designer. It was Lucifer after all.
"Well, are you coming or what?" Lucifer asked, having already put on his shoes.
Chloe removed her heels and put on the flip flops that Lucifer had offered to her. She then looked at him with a mischievous look in her eyes. It was almost as if she had a plan in mind. She was a detective after all.
"Catch me if you can!" she exclaimed before taking off down the beach.
"Oh you little minx," he replied before chasing after her.
When he finally catches up to her, he takes her in his arms. If it was up to him, he would never let her go. She nestles her head into his chest. She fits perfectly, no surprise there.
"Hey," she said, nuzzling into him.
"Hello," he replied softly.
"So now that you have me, what do you plan to do with me?"
"I was thinking I would love you forever," Lucifer said in almost a whisper, as if it was a secret between the two of them.
"Sounds good to me," Chloe replied, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
They stayed like that for awhile, with him holding her. All that mattered in that moment was that they were together. There was no murders or celestial drama that they had to deal with at the moment. He held his Detective as they looked up at the stars which were his greatest creation.
"Beautiful, aren't they?"
"True but they're not as beautiful as you my love."
"So, why did you want to come here?" Chloe asked as they walked hand in hand down the beach.
This was the moment that Lucifer had been preparing for and yet he was still nervous. He was as nervous as he usually was when it came to them.
"As you know Detective, this is the beach where I fell. It is also the place where we shared our first kiss. It is important to us so it is only fitting that I do this here," Lucifer admitted.
"Do what?"
"Darling, when I met you, I thought love was a silly notion that only fools felt. I could not have been more wrong. You changed everything. You showed me that I'm not evil and what love truly is. I may be the Lightbringer but nothing compares to the light you have brought to my life. So, Chloe Jane Decker, -" he said before getting down on one knee and opening the small velvet box, revealing a stunning ring. "Will you make me the happiest Devil alive and marry me?"
"Yes," she replied softly. "Of course I will marry you."
With that, Lucifer stood up from the sand and slipped the ring onto her finger. He pulled her in for a passionate kiss before pulling away briefly.
"Look at what is on the inside," he said, pointing to the ring.
Chloe removed the ring to read the engraving on the inside. On the inside, it reads: You are my light. Love, Lucifer
"Darling, you will always be my light."
