Prompt: Rory Gilmore/Logan Huntzberger - Bali - Caught in a Rainstorm

Huntzberger,

For the life of me, I don't know why I have chosen to write to you. We've never managed to have a civil conversation. In fact, I feel that you are quite possibly the biggest asshole I've ever met, but what I have to tell you supersedes any issues we have. This is about Rory.

I know that you two have been seeing one another secretly for quite some time. She confided in me recently about your time spent together in London. While I think she is making a huge mistake even gracing you with her breath, I think it would be worse if you didn't know the truth.

Rory is pregnant. She's not sure if you are the father, but for some reason, I have this gut feeling that you are. Do with this information what you wish. Stay with your fiancée or go to Rory. Whatever you decide, just know that I still think you're a piece of shit.

Jess

Bali was beautiful, to say the least.

Even with all the traveling she'd done over the years, Rory had never managed to find her way to the beautiful island in Indonesia after her trip with Logan had been canceled all those years ago. But, with her pregnancy, Rory felt it was time to visit the places she may never have a chance to get to once there was a child in the picture. Her mom had managed to take her to Europe, but times were different now. She was different now.

Long gone were the days where she thought she'd be this traveling journalist who got to cover all the fantastic news stories that graced covers of famous papers. Instead, she was going to have a baby… Rory was going to be a mom. Her mom had managed to follow her dreams, so maybe someday, once her daughter or son was grown enough, Rory could chase the dreams that had trailed from right through her fingers.

For now, working at the Stars Hollow Gazette, the Dragonfly, and taking classes towards her Masters at Yale would have to suffice. Thankfully, Emily had offered to pay for Yale without any stipulations, so there were no Friday night obligations to attend. For once, Emily was happy doing her own thing while the other Gilmore girls did theirs. Rory was grateful for that more than anything. Of course, Emily would have to be told about the baby sooner rather than later, but that was another ordeal entirely.

Using the last of her savings, Rory packed a light bag and flew to Bali. It was the only place she'd be able to afford, but it was enough. If she was lucky, she might be able to sneak in a trip to Bangkok, but if not, she didn't mind. Indonesia was providing everything she needed at the moment, if not the answers to unasked questions. As she sat watching some of the tourists at the Tanah Lot Temple, she contemplated some of them.

The most prominent on her mind was the fact that she had to decide about the father of her baby. Who was the father? Did she even want to know? Did it matter? For some reason, she had slept with Paul while he was in Stars Hollow, but after finding out she was pregnant, she'd broken things off with him for good. Via text. He never replied. The baby's father could also be the Wookie from her one night stand, but she doubted it. They'd used protection, and Rory was almost sure it hadn't been compromised. Almost.

The most significant and most likely of all the options was that her baby belonged to Logan. She'd lost count of the times the two of them had sex while she was in London over the past few months. He was the most likely candidate but also the one with the biggest problems attached to him. Odette, for one thing, and the fact that he also lived in London. There was no way Rory could ask him to leave Odette or leave London.

She almost wished the Wookie was the father just because they never exchanged numbers or contact information…

Whatever the case, Rory knew that her business here in Bali was to find peace with the situation. It was the only way she could return home and prepare a life for her son or daughter. Standing from the bench, Rory plastered a smile on her face and began the ascent to the top of Bali's iconic sea temple. She had a lot of praying to do.

"Paul Anka, as soon as I answer this door, you and I are having a little chat about where best it is to keep your half-eaten shoes," Lorelei playfully scolded her ageing dog as she stepped over him and his sodden shoes on the stairs.

It was still reasonably early, and she was running late for the inn as she got ready upstairs. Not uncommon, she was surprised when there was a knock at the door not too long after Luke left for work at the diner. Reaching the door as she finished buttoning her blouse, Lorelei threw open the door attempting to put a smile on her face.

However, as soon as she saw who was standing on the other side, the smile fell away to reveal a frown of curious distrust. "Logan Huntzberger, you better have a hell of a reason to be standing on my porch at half seven in the morning."

Logan sighed heavily and ran a hand through his hair. Lorelei was pleased to notice a few grays were edging their way into the man's hairline. "Good morning, Lorelei. May I come in?" He gestured to the inside of the house.

Narrowing her eyes, Lorelei didn't say anything as she took a step back and opened the door wider to allow her daughter's ex-college boyfriend access to the house. As he walked through into the living room, she closed the door and followed, unsurprised to find that her dog had taken his soggy shoes and disappeared elsewhere.

"I'd offer you some coffee, but I drank it already," she told Logan, crossing her arms and waiting for him to respond.

"That's okay," Logan said, taking in the living room that had changed dramatically since he'd stepped in this house. "I hope I won't be long as you probably have a busy day ahead of you."

Heaving a sigh of her own, Lorelei gestured for Logan to take a seat and as she did the same. "I never thought that I'd see you again," she said honestly. "What brings you to Stars Hollow? I'm assuming Rory, but she's not here."

"Not here…" Logan's face fell, and he glanced back toward the room where he knew Rory slept. "I was hoping to talk to her. I… Well, I received a letter yesterday that sort of threw me for a loop." He reached into his coat pocket and withdrew the letter before handing it to Lorelei.

Taking the letter, Lorelei's eyes went wide when she saw who had penned the damn thing. Jess. She wasn't surprised, knowing that Rory had confided in him a lot since finding out that she was pregnant. Refolding the letter, she handed it back to Logan. "She doesn't know if the baby is yours. I know all about your affair together these past few months… Hell, I don't even want to know if it's gone on longer than that. But, she's determined to go through this alone."

"She doesn't have to," Logan pressed, meeting Lorelei's stare. "I've broken my engagement off and returned here to the States. My business in London, it's through, or at least it will be soon. I can't get a hold of Rory, and I need to tell her this. I want to do the right thing."

Closing her eyes, Lorelei slowly stood. "The right thing. I've heard that before…." Christopher's face floated through her mind, and she turned her back on Logan for a moment. "If Rory doesn't want to talk to you, then that's her choice, Logan."

"I love her," he said, also rising from where he sat. "I've always loved her, but she turned me down. So I didn't go after her just as she asked, and I let her live her life. It was by chance that we ran into each other in London. When we met again, it was like we were never apart."

Lorelei slowly turned around to face Logan, making sure to keep her face devoid of any emotions. Rory hadn't shared with her how she and Logan managed to find themselves in an affair, but something in her heart told her that what he was saying was true. "Being a father is serious business, especially if the kid isn't even yours."

"I know," Logan replied, swallowing hard. "I'm scared as hell. Terrified even at the thought of being a father, but I want to help Rory. I want to be there. But, please, can you tell me where she's gone?"

Staring at Logan Huntzberger, Lorelei had to admit, even to herself, that this was no boy. He and Rory were no longer children, and a baby was only going to teach them how to become better adults than they were now. Rory was always a good kid, and for the most part, a young adult. Of course, mistakes were made, but that's natural and typical in young people's lives. Was Logan the father of Rory's baby? Most likely, but it could also be Paul or the Wookie.

No matter the case, Logan was here now declaring that he'd given up everything to be with her daughter. So who was she to keep the potential father of her grandchild from knowing where Rory was? Going to the phone stand, she picked up a pen and paper and wrote out the address and location of where Rory was staying in Bali before walking back to Logan.

"Listen," Lorelei began, pointing an accusatory finger at Logan, "I will tell you where she's gone under one condition."

"What's that?" Logan asked, his heart hopeful. He eagerly eyed up the paper Lorelei held in her hand.

"You have to guarantee to me that you're all in with her," she said, eyes narrowing. "None of this running back to your ex-fiance when daddy gets mad you're back with Rory Gilmore."

Logan wasn't surprised Lorelei had an ultimatum. His past and his father ensured that it was necessary. Taking a deep breath, he let it out slowly and said, "I've pretty much already burnt that bridge when I told my fiancée it was over. My father can cut me off or do whatever he likes. I've worked hard over the years to acquire my own wealth. I can support Rory and the baby without my family's help."

Lorelei nodded with pursed lips. "That's all I needed to hear." She handed Logan the paper and motioned to the door. "Now go because I'm going to be late for work."

"Thank you so much, Lorelei," Logan said, holding up the paper before turning for the door. "I hope to see you soon."

Once he was gone, Lorelei sat back down on the chair and sighed heavily again. She truly hoped that he meant what he'd said and that Rory wouldn't get her heartbroken. No matter what, she, Luke and the rest of Stars Hollow would be there for her anyway.

The sun had dipped behind some clouds as the wind picked up, and Rory knew that a rainstorm was imminent. It was nearly time to head back to her hotel for dinner anyway, so leaving the Ubud Art Market wasn't a big deal. She could always come back tomorrow to get that painting she thought her grandmother would like. As she turned around to head back the way she came, she stopped short.

"Logan?" Her heart skipped a beat at the sight of the man she thought might be her baby's father. "What are you doing here?"

"I've been looking for you everywhere," Logan said, heaving a sigh of relief. "I was starting to think I'd never find you."

"How did you know where to find me?" she asked, taking a few tentative steps toward Logan as the wind continued to pick up around them.

"Jess sent me a letter telling me everything," he explained, also trying to close the distance between them. "I went and saw Lorelei, and she sent me here."

Shaking her head, Rory couldn't help but not be surprised. "I knew Jess wouldn't keep his mouth shut…." She grimaced and then added, "I was going to reach out to you… I just needed some time first to figure everything out."

"It's fine," he said, trying to smile. "I'm not mad. I just want to be here for you and the baby."

It was then that rain began to fall from the sky, pelting their heated skin and causing chills to run up and down Rory's spine. "What about Odette?"

"I told her it's over," Logan explained, ignoring the rain as it poured from the sky. "I'm moving back to the States. I want to give this thing between us a chance to grow some roots."

"What if the baby isn't yours?" Rory asked, heart pounding erratically in her chest. "I slept with Paul and that Wookie all in the same span that we were together." She wiped rain out of her eyes to see Logan more clearly as she anxiously awaited his answer.

"I don't care, Ace," Logan said as the rain poured down around them. "I don't care if the baby is your ex-boyfriend's baby or even if it belongs to an unknown Wookie. I'm done running. I'm all in with you, and if that means being a father to another man's child, then so be it. I love you."

Desperately, Rory wanted to tell Logan just how much she loved him too, but their troubled past held her back. "This isn't some Nicholas Sparks novel, Logan. This is real life." She placed her hands on her lower belly where her child was growing. "I'm pregnant and going to be a mother. Being a parent isn't a weekend getaway with the Life and Death Brigade; it is about life and death."

"Rory," Logan said, closing the space between them and taking her hands into his own. "I know that, and that's why I'm here now. You are my life, and so will that child. I promise you this. Please, give me a chance. Give this a chance."

Rory stared up into Logan's eyes for a moment looking for any indication that he wasn't sincere. She found none. Smiling, she managed a single nod before Logan was pulling her into his arms and kissing her. She let it happen despite the rain or her fears of the future. This felt right, and she loved Logan. Really, she did. They would figure this out together somehow and make a family and a life together.

Nothing in life was ever easy, and she was sure that there would be some bumps along the way, but right now, Rory had her family, a baby on the way, and Logan to hold her hand through it all. So as she and Logan ran through the rain back toward her hotel, Rory thought it was safe to say that her business in Bali was complete.
