Bad Day: Stripe
Six year old Stripe woke up from his bed and noticed his brothers had already woken up and left. Stripe then stretched and yawned as he gets out of bed. Stripe then goes to the kitchen where he's parents and brothers normally would be. "Good morning Stripy," Chris said to her youngest son while making breakfast. "Good morning mummy," Stripe said as Chris served her son some French toast. "Thanks mum," Stripe said as he started to eat. "Where is Bandit and Rad?" Stripe asked, looking at his mother. "They are with your father at the park," Chris explained as she sat down with her son. "Oh, they didn't wake me?" Stripe asked, looking down. "Oh sweetie, I told them to not wake you," Chris said as she placed her hand on her son's hand. "Will dad take me when he comes back?" Stripe asked while eating his food. "I'm sorry sweetie but he has to get to work when he gets home," Chris said, now feeling bad for not waking up her youngest son. "Oh," Stripe said with a sad look on his face.
"We're home mum!" Rad shouted from downstairs. "I'm in the kitchen sweetie," Chris said before looking at Stripe. "It'll be okay Stripy you'll see," Chris said, kissing her son on his head. "Sweet! Mum's French toast!" Bandit said while following Rad up the stairs. Both boys sat down next to Stripe and started eating. Stripe started to slowly eat his food and then push it around. Bob was the last one in the house as he went up the stairs and grabbed some coffee and some normal piece of toast. "Hey mate," Bob said with a smile as he rubbed the top of Stripe's head. "Good morning dad," Stripe said in a low tone. "What's wrong with you?" Bandit asked, looking at his little brother. "Yeah mate, your normally bright eyes and bushy tail," Rad said while drinking his juice. "Honey," Chris said while pulling her husband to the side. "What's wrong with Stripe dear?" Bob asked his wife. "He feels a little left out on not going to the park with you and the boys," Chris explained. "Oh… but you told me he should sleep in," Bob said. "I know, but maybe after work you should spend some time with him," Chris said, kissing her husband on his cheek.
Bob then looked at his youngest son and noticed he indeed was sad. "Yeah, I'll do that," Bob said kissing his wife on her head. Bob then walked over to his son's and gave them each a kiss on their heads. "Stripe, when I get home tonight we can play a game of your choice," Bob said, getting his stuff ready. "Really dad?" Stripe asked, now perking up and wagging his tail. "Of course son, now behave for your mother and play nice with your brothers," Bob said as he started to go downstairs. "Will do dad!" Stripe said with a smile. "Bandit, Rad, you also play nice with your little brother!" Bob said while going out the door. "Sure thing dad!" Rad and Bandit said while finishing up their breakfast. Now full with confidence, Stripe ate all his food and even helped clean up after his brothers ate. "Thank you Stripy with the dishes," Chris said while finishing up. "Your welcome mum," Stripe said with a smile. "Now, you go on and play with your brothers, I think they're in the front yard," Chris said with a smile. "Okay!" Stripe said as he ran outside to play with his older brothers.
Stripe went outside and found his brothers playing with their friends. "Hey mates! Can I play?" Stripe asked as he ran up to his brothers. Bandit and Rad both looked at each other and then looked at their little brother. "Sorry mate, but we already picked teams and this game might get you hurt," Bandit explained. "Bandit's right mate and I don't want to hear you cry," Rad said, getting his touch football ready. "But I want to play…" Stripe said with a sad look on his face. "We're sorry mate but we're playing rugby and you could get really hurt," Rad said looking at his little brother.
"Then what can I do?" Stripe asked, looking up at his oldest brother. "Um… well… Bandit?" Rad asked, looking at his second younger brother. "Why are you looking at me?" Bandit asked, looking at his older brother. Rad then glared at his brother letting him know he should be the one to their youngest brother he couldn't play with them. "Fine!" Bandit said, rubbing his muzzle. "Look mate you can't play with us okay? End of story," Bandit said coldly. "But… but…" Stripe said with teary eyes. "Really mate?" Rad said, looking at Bandit. "You know he'll get hurt if he plays with us," Bandit said looking at his older brother. "Yeah I know, but that doesn't mean you should be mean to him," Rad said, crossing his arms. This then made Stripe angry at his older brothers. "Fine! See if I care if I don't play with you guys!" Stripe shouted now letting his tears fall from his muzzle as he ran off back inside the house. "Stripe, wait!" Rad called out to his youngest brother.
"I'm telling you mate he just get really hurt," Bandit said while holding the touch football. "I'm going to hurt you if we don't fix this," Rad said, looking at Bandit. "Fine but like I always say, big brothers always beat little brothers," Bandit jokes. "Mate, nobody ever says that," Rad said as he then went after Stripe. Bandit sighed and then joined his older brother and went after Stripe. Stripe ran through the house and went out to the backyard. Stripe then sat down on the swing and cried lightly to himself while also kicking a small rock. "Stupid big brothers… what do they know," Stripe said with a sniff. "Stripe!" Rad said coming out to the backyard. "Go away!" Stripe shouted to his oldest brother. "Come on mate, don't be like that," Bandit said as he and Rad walked over to Stripe. "Especially you Bandit! Go away!" Stripe said as he tried to get up and run away.
But Bandit and Rad were too fast for the small Heeler as they grabbed him and pinned him down. "Hey! Let me go!" Stripe said, struggling to get up. "Sorry mate we can't do that," Bandit said while sitting on top of his little brother. "Bandit I can't breathe," Stripe said, still struggling. "Come on mate, let him breathe," Rad said, now letting Stripe go. Bandit then shrugged and got off of Stripe. Stripe, now able to breathe, sits up and looks at his brothers. "Look mate we…" Bandit started to say. "I don't want to hear it! You're always mean to me Bandit and Rad you stick by his side! It's almost like I don't exist to you two at all!" Stripe shouted as he hugged his knees. "I hope you're playing nice boys!" Chris called out to her boys from the kitchen window. "We are mum!" Rad called out making sure they all wouldn't get in trouble. "Look mate, we're sorry aren't we Bandit?" Rad asked, looking at his middle brother. "Yeah, mate we're sorry," Bandit said, now feeling bad about how he treated his younger brother earlier.
"And it's the same with dad! He always spends time with you two and not me," Stripe said looking down. Bandit and Rad both looked at each other. "He spends time with you," Rad said, looking back at Stripe. "No… not as much as you two," Stripe said softly. "Dad has been spending more time with us… but you have mum," Bandit pointed out. "But mum still makes time for you two as well," Stripe added. "He's right mate," Rad said, rubbing the bald on his head. "It's like you two are his favorite," Stripe said, looking away from his brothers. "Stripe, dad loves just as much as us," Rad said, placing his hand on his younger brother's shoulder. "Yeah mate he does," Bandit added while also putting his hand on Stripes shoulder. "We're all his favorite mate," Rad said softly with a smile.
"Yeah maybe you're right… but… it may be selfish of me to think of this but… I wish I was someone's favorite…" Stripe said, hugging his knees. "You will be someone's favorite mate," Rad said softly with a smile. "I will?" Stripe asked, looking at his oldest brother. "He will?" Bandit asked, now looking at Rad. "Of course! Maybe someday he'll be someone's favorite uncle or something when we have kids," Rad said with a smile. "Do you think I could really be someone's favorite uncle someday?" Stripe asked looking at his older brothers. "Yeah, right Bandit?" Rad asked, looking at his younger brother. "I think so," Bandit said cheerfully while looking at Stripe. Stripe blushed under his fur while looking away from his brothers. "Hey mate were brothers for life and that's a promise," Rad said as he hugged both of his brothers. "Alright enough with the mushy stuff," Bandit said trying to get out of the hug.
Rad and Stripe both laughed as they broke the hugged and then looked at each other. "If you really want I play with us then you can," Rad said while standing up. "Really?" Stripe said while wagging his tail. "But you have to keep up with us," Bandit said while also standing up. "Of course!" Stripe said as Rad and Bandit handed out their hand to help their brother up. "Alright mate, race you to the front yard!" Bandit said while taking off. "Hey no fair!" Stripe said as he started to chase his older brother to the front yard. Rad chuckle as he watched his younger brothers run across the yard to get to the front yard. "Wait for me!" Rad shouted to his brothers as he then chased after them.
(Years Later….)
"Thanks mate for helping me paint the house," Stripe said, getting the paint buckets out. "Your welcome uncle Stripe, I don't mind helping my favorite uncle paint his house," Thomas said with a smile while he started painting his uncles house. Stripe chuckled now remembering the time when he was really younger that he wanted to be someone's favorite. "What's so funny?" Thomas asked as he looked at his uncle. "Oh, it's nothing mate, I was just remembering something from when I was a little kid," Stripe said while helping with painting. "Really? What's that?" Thomas asked, looking at his uncle. "It's silly really," Stripe said with a chuckle.
"Come on uncle Stripe this is me you're talking too," Thomas said with a smile. Stripe chuckled and then just looked at his nephew. "When I was about six years old, I wanted to be someone's favorite and now I guess that someone finally came into my life and that's you mate," Stripe said, rubbing the back of his neck. Thomas felt honored by that. "Don't forget uncle Stripe, your also a favorite dad and brother too," Thomas said as he placed his hand on his uncle's shoulder. "You think that mate?" Stripe asked. "Of course I do uncle Stripe, you're Socks and Muffins only dad and I'm sure uncle Rad and my dad chose you as their favorite brother," Thomas explained. Stripe chuckled as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Alright mate, this house won't pain itself," Stripe said as he started painting some more. Thomas chuckled as he started paint again with his uncle.
The End.
