Emily was in her art studio trying to work on a new piece for her art gallery. Although Emily was stuck on what she wanted to do. "Mom! I'm home!" Twelve year old Thomas called to his mother as he walked through the door. "I'm here honey," Emily said as she continued to look at her blank art easel. "What are you doing?" Thomas asked, walking into his mother's art studio. "Just trying to work and not getting anywhere," Emily said with a sigh. "You figure it out mom," Thomas said now standing next to his mother. "Yeah, you're right," Emily said with a smile as she put her arm around her son and pulled him closer to her. "Alright hand it over," Emily said playfully. "Do I have to?" Thomas asked. "Yes, I want to see your grades," Emily said, now crossing her arms. "Okay," Thomas said as he pulled out a paper from his backpack. Thomas then handed his mother his report card and watched her open.
Emily looked at the paper and then looked at her son and then looked back at the paper. "Well? How did I do?" Thomas asked now curious. "Let's see… started a food fight, running in the halls and skipped a class, now what's up with that?" Emily said, looking at her son with a strict look. "What?! It doesn't say that!" Thomas protested. Emily couldn't keep a straight face and started laughing. "No it doesn't but you're getting a little behind on history a bit," Emily said looking at her son. "I know it's… hard," Thomas confessed. "Hey, I could help you," Emily said crossing her arms. "Yeah, but your always working at either the gallery or in here," Thomas said looking down. Emily then had a sad look on her face. "Your right kid and I'm sorry," Emily said, placing her hand on her son's shoulder. "And your dad is a little far away to help," Emily said softly. "Do you think Adam could help me?" Thomas asked, looking up at his mother. "Oh I'm sure he'd love to help you," Emily said with a smile. "Okay," Thomas said with a soft smile. "But other than History, these grades are outstanding! Shall we celebrate?" Emily asked. "Really?" Thomas asked, perking up and wagging his tail. "Yeah, pizza joes?" Emily asked with a smile.
"Yeah!" Thomas said with a smile. "Alright, get out of here, I'll meet you in the car," Emily said as she patting her son on the back. "Okay," Thomas said as he took off to the car. Emily then shuts down her studio and goes to the car with her son. Now at the pizza place Emily and Thomas sat down at a table and waited for their pizza. "Anything new at the gallery?" Thomas asked while drinking his coke. "Just got new submissions for the spring art program," Emily said with a smile. "That's cool," Thomas said while playing with his straw. "You know… you could apply for the summer program if you want," Emily suggested. "No offense mom, but art's your thing and I'm not as talented as you are," Thomas said taking a drink of his coke. "Oh son of mine you are so talented in more ways than one, don't sell yourself so short" Emily explained before taking a drink of her tea. "Besides, would other dogs think I would be getting a free ride because you're my mom?" Thomas asked, looking at his mother.
"They might, but I give everyone a fair shot and I'd expect you to earn your spot in my program," Emily said with a chuckle. Thomas nodded knowing his mother was right. "You're also getting better at your music too," Emily added. "Yeah… but it's nothing," Thomas said with a blush. "Like I said kid, don't sell yourself so short," Emily said with a wink. "Mom?" Thomas asked, looking at his mother. "Yes honey?" Emily asked. "Is it always going to be just us?" Thomas asked, looking in his mothers eyes. "What do you mean?" Emily asked. "I know you're dating Adam and stuff," Thomas said while playing with his straw.
"And stuff?" Emily said with a chuckle. "I'm serious mom, like do you think you and Adam will get married?" Thomas asked. Emily was surprised by that question. "Now that's a big ask," Emily said with a chuckle. "I just thought because dad has Chilli and Bluey and Bingo why can't you get married to Adam," Thomas asked. Emily sighed as she placed her hand on her son's hand. "Love is a complicated thing sweetheart, it just doesn't happen overnight or at least not like it used to," Emily explained now thinking about her happiness with both Rad and Bandit. "What does that mean?" Thomas asked. Emily smiled and shook her head. "It's nothing honey," Emily said, taking her hand back. It wasn't long until the pizza came and then the conversation changed. "Your uncle Prince's birthday is coming up, what do you want to get him?" Emily asked while taking a bite of her pizza. "Doesn't he have everything? He's the star football player," Thomas said while eating his pizza. "Yeah you're right… everything but his favorite nephew," Emily said with a smile. "Yeah, that's true," Thomas said while putting some hot sauce on his pizza. "You're just like your dad when you do that," Emily said with a chuckle.
Thomas chuckled at that. "But anyways, back to your uncle, do you want to go see him for his birthday?" Emily asked. "Yeah! That would be fun," Thomas said while he continued to eat his pizza. "Then it's settled," Emily said while they continued their dinner. Later that night Emily went back to her studio and tried to figure out her art piece again. Thomas was also in the studio but was doing his homework. After finishing his homework, Thomas noticed his mother still struggling with her work. "Can I help mom?" Thomas asked as she stood up from the table he was sitting at and walked over to his mother. "Sure," Emily said looking at her son. "What if you did a splatter piece?" Thomas asked looking at the blank easel. "A splatter piece huh? I haven't done one of those in a while, do you want to give the first splatter?" Emily asked as she gave her son the paintbrush. Thomas took the brush with some blue paint and threw some paint on the easel. "Well?" Thomas asked looking at his mother. "It's a start, but it's missing something," Emily said with a sly look on her face. "Really? what?" Thomas asked. "This!" Emily said as he painted her son red. "Mom!" Thomas shouted with surprise in his voice. "Now you're a red Heeler mix," Emily said with a chuckle. "Oh yeah?" Thomas said, grabbing some purple paint. "Thomas Heeler, don't you dare!" Emily said getting ready to be plastered with paint. "Now you can be a purple husky!" Thomas said splashing paint on his mother. Emily screamed just before she and her son had a paint fight.
While during their paint fight they also splatter their art piece together. "You think it's finished?" Emily asked while covered paint. "I think so," Thomas said also cover in paint. "It's just missing one thing," Emily said as putting her hand in some paint. "Really? What's that?" Thomas asked. "This," Emily said as she placed her hand on the art piece. A paw print was the last result as showing or Emily signing the painting. "That's cool," Thomas said with a smile. "Now put your paw print on it," Emily said looking at her son. "Me? But I really didn't do anything," Thomas said looking at his mother. "Well this was your idea so you earned the credit," Emily said hoping her son would sign his paw on the paint. "Okay," Thomas said as he took his hand in some paint and the pressed his small paw print next to his mother's paw print. "Now it's finished," Emily said as she cuddled chose to her son. "Awesome," Thomas said while resting his head on his mother's shoulder.
(Present Day)
Thomas carry's a large crate into the house with The rest of the family in the living room. "Is this it mate?" Rad asked, helping his nephew with the crate. "It should be, my mom's personal collection is hard to track down. "I'm sure this is the one sweetheart," Nana said as Rad and Thomas placed down the crate in front of everyone. "Kids! Come inside and see Thomas open the crate!" Chilli said. "Okay mum!" Bluey said as she, Bingo, Muffin and Socks came inside. Thomas took a deep breath as he stood in front of his family. "Okay, so this piece of art was the first and last one we made together and well it was during a time when it was just us," Thomas said about ready to open the crate. Thomas then stopped himself and looked at his dad who was standing next to Chilli. "Dad, could you help me with this?" Thomas asked. "Sure thing mate," Bandit said as he walked over to his son and helped him open the crate.
Once the crate was opened and both father and son saw the splatter painting with Emily and Thomas's signature paw prints on it along with Emily signature and Thomas's signature signed with it. "Oh my," Nana said with a smile and Thomas and Bandit pulled out the painting. "You and your mum did this mate?" Bandit asked, looking at his son. "Yeah, we had a paint fight and this was the result," Thomas said with a chuckle. "Aww can we have a paint fight mum?" Bluey asked, looking at Chilli. "Not a chance sweetheart," Chilli said with a smile. "Aww," Bluey said looking down. "Thanks for tracking it down dad," Thomas said with a smile. "Thanks mate but it wasn't me who tracked it down," Bandit said while putting down the painting. "It wasn't?" Thomas asked, confused. "It was me mate," Rad spoke up while rubbing the back of his neck. "It was?" Thomas asked. "Yeah, your mum told me about this art piece a long time ago and I wanted to find it for your eighteenth birthday but your dad insisted on giving it to you now," Rad explained. Without saying a word Thomas grabbed his uncle and hugged tightly. "Thank you uncle Rad, thank you so much," Thomas said, still holding on to his uncle. "You welcome mate," Rad said softly while holding onto his nephew. "Let's hang this up in your room son," Bandit said as he picked up the painting and took it to his son's room.
