Bad Day: Young Thomas
Bandit was waiting in his car waiting for his son to get out of school. As the school bell rang and all the kids came out of the school building to go to their parents to go home, Bandit noticed his son was one of the last ones coming out of the school building. Bandit noticed his son had a sad look on his face as he walked to his car. Bandit then got out of his car and helped his son into his car seat. "Hey mate! How was your day?" Bandit asked with a smile. Thomas sighed as he got into his seat and buckled himself in. "It wasn't good," Thomas said looking down from his dad. "How come?" Bandit asked, making sure his son was buckled in. "I was told I couldn't play kickball with the older kids," Thomas answered. Bandit got into the driver seat and looked in the rear view mirror to look at his son.
"How come mate? Bandit asked as he started the car and started to drive off. "They said I was too little," Thomas confessed. "Oh, I'm sorry mate," Bandit said softly. "Dad?" Thomas asked, looking at his dad. "Yes mate?" Bandit asked while driving. "Do you think I'm too little?" Thomas asked. "You are a little kid mate but I don't think you're too little to play a game," Bandit explained. "Oh," Thomas said again, looking down at the ground. Bandit then frowned seeing his son sad and it also made him sad. Bandit then perked up with a smile as he made a left turn going away from home. "Where are going dad?" Thomas asked looking up. "It's a surprise mate," Bandit said with a smile. "But won't mom want us to be home?" Thomas asked, confused. "Don't worry about your mum mate, she'll be fine," Bandit said while driving.
"Okay… then where are we going?" Thomas asked curiosity. "It's a surprise mate, I already told you," Bandit said with a smile. It wasn't long until they go to the surprise. "Fun land!" Thomas said with Excitement. "Yep," Bandit said with a smile as he unbuckled himself. Bandit then got out of his car and then helped his son out of his car seat. "I thought this would cheer you up mate," Bandit said with a chuckle. "Dad! This is going to be fun!" Thomas said getting out of his fathers car. "It sure will be mate," Bandit said with a smile as the father and son went into the building. Fun land was a place with an arcade, ice cream parlor and laser tag. Bandit went up to the counter and filled up a game card so he and his son could play games in the arcade. While playing games in the arcade and winning tickets Bandit then received a phone call from Emily. "Hang on mate it's your mum," Bandit said as he pulled away from the game and answered his phone. "Hey babe," Bandit said with a smile.
"Where are you? I thought you would have been home by now?" Emily asked. "Well, our son had a bit of a rough day and I thought I'd cheer him up by taking him to fun land," Bandit explained. "Bandit, I thought we're saving that trip to fun land for his birthday," Emily said while shopping at the grocery store. "Babe it'll be okay, I'll work extra shifts to help play for his birthday party," Bandit explained. "That's not the point Bandit, he already doesn't get to see you that often when you work so much," Emily said a little bit angry. "Em, it'll be okay," Bandit said trying to reassure his wife that it would be okay. "Fine, just be home before dinner, I love you bye," Emily said as she hung up the phone. Bandit was a little discouraged by his wife's actions on handling things but knew she would be alright. Bandit puts his phone away and then looks at his son. "Hey mate I know something your not too little for," Bandit said with a smile. "What's that dad?" Thomas asked.
"Laser tag!" Bandit said as he picked up his son and placed him on his shoulders. The father and son went to the laser tag room and played there for a few rounds. Thomas of course ending up winning each round and the final round. The two then went to the ice cream parlor part of building and sat down for some ice cream. "This really was the best day dad, thank you," Thømas said while eating his ice cream. "Your welcome mate, I'd do anything to make you happy," Bandit said with a smile. "Dad?" Thomas asked. "Yes mate?" Bandit asked. "Did anyone tell you that you were too little to play games?" Thomas asked while continuing to eat his ice cream.
"Well… it's more I told your uncle Stripe that he was too little to play games," Bandit explained. "Did Uncle Stripe ever get upset about it?" Thomas asked. "Yeah… I sometimes wasn't the best brother at times," Bandit explained as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I think I'd make a good brother," Thomas confessed with a lick of his ice cream. "You think so mate?" Bandit asked softly with a smile. "Yeah, I wouldn't make my brother or sister feel small," Thomas said while finishing his ice cream. Bandit smiled at that. "I think you'd make a good brother too mate," Bandit said while also finishing his own ice cream. After ice cream it was time to head home. Once they got home Emily was already starting dinner as Bandit and Thomas walked through the door. "Hey mom!" Thomas said a smile while walking up to his mother. "You have a chocolate face!" Emily said, trying to wash her son's face. "Mom!" Thomas said trying to move away from his mother. "Go wash up, dinner is almost ready," Emily said with a smile. "Okay…" Thomas said as he dragged himself to the bathroom.
Emily then lost her smile as she looked at her husband. "Ice cream? Before dinner? And how much did you spend?" Emily said rather rudely while cutting up some carrots. "Enough to make his day better," Bandit said now trying to help with dinner. "There were other ways to make his day better Bandit, cheaper ways," Emily said while putting the carrots in a bowl. "Emily it was my hard working money and if I want to spend it on my son, then I will," Bandit said Defensively. "And you think I don't work hard? I finally convinced you to let me work and it's still not enough and your here spending money at fun land!" Emily said rather loudly.
"Emily keep your voice down," Bandit said putting his hands on Emily's waist. Emily then calmed her son down and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry…. I shouldn't have raised my voice at you," Emily said softly as Bandit pushed Emily's hair to the side so he could see her two colored eyes. "Em, we're gonna be okay," Bandit said softly as he kissed her hand. "Bandit, we're barely getting by, even with both of us working," Emily said as she turned to do the rest of the dinner. "Then maybe we can ask your parents for help," Bandit said, rubbing Emily's back. "I don't want to do that, it makes me feel like a burden to them," Emily said while taking the roast out of the oven. "Then maybe my brother could help," Bandit said now helping set the table. "Stripe already has his plate full trying to have kids with Trixie," Emily said while placing the food down on the table. "Then maybe Rad can…" Bandit started to say and then Emily snapped. "No! Bandit! Not him!" Emily shouted as she looked at her husband with a Stern look on her face.
"Are you two fighting?" Thomas asked from the hallway. Bandit and Emily looked at their son and noticed he looked afraid. "No honey, we were just talking," Emily said, forcing a smile. "But you were yelling," Thomas said still looking scared. "No mate your mum was just talking loud is all," Bandit said, also forcing a smile. "Do you still love each other?" Thomas asked as he walked closer to his parents. "Oh sweetie, of course we do," Emily said as she took her son's hand and sat him down at the table. "It sounded like you were fighting," Thomas said with a sad look on his face. "It may have sounded like we were squabbling mate but trust me we were just talking," Bandit said, putting his hand on his son's shoulder. "What's squabbling?" Thomas asked not knowing his father Australian slang. "It's a word used for fighting," Emily explained. "Oh," Thomas replied. "But we're fine mate, trust me I love your mum and your mum loves me," Bandit explained. "Would you tell me if you two weren't okay?" Thomas asked.
For a small pup, Thomas was surely smart especially if it had to do with his parents. "Of course honey," Emily said as she hugged her son. Bandit also got in on the hug and the family of three hugged it out. After dinner was done and Thomas played with his toys for a little bit, it eventually was time to go to bed. Bandit tucked his son into bed and read him a story. After reading his a son a story about a ghost Bandit made sure his son was all snuggled in. "Alright mate goodnight," Bandit said with a smile. "Dad?" Thomas said just before Bandit was about to leave.
"Yes mate?" Bandit asked while sitting down on his son's bed. "Do you think if we invited mom to fun land she wouldn't have been mad?" Thomas asked looking at his dad. "Son, I made the choice to take you, it wasn't your fault in any way," Bandit explained. Thomas then sat up and went over to his piggy bank. "What are you doing mate?" Bandit asked as he watched his son get into his piggy bank. "Here dad," Thomas said, handing his father some of his money he received from birthdays and just doing household chores. "Mate I can't take this, it's yours," Bandit said, trying to give his son his money back. "You guys didn't think I was listening but I know it was about money," Thomas said pushing the money back to his dad. "Mate…" Bandit said softly. "Dad I know you were trying to cheer me up today and I thank you for that, but please let me help you and mom," Thomas said, now closing his fathers hand that had the money in it.
Bandit smiled with a nod. "Your a good son mate, I don't know how I got so lucky to have you," Bandit said with a smile as he hugged his while wagging his tail. Thomas hugged his father back with a smile while also wagging his tail. After their moment Thomas had went to sleep and Bandit left the room and went to his room. Emily was on the bed reading a book as Bandit came in and place the money on the dresser. "What's that?" Emily asked, placing her book down. "Our son wanted to help us by giving us the money he's been saving," Bandit explained. "Oh… you're going to put it back in his piggy bank aren't you?" Emily asked. "He really insisted that we keep it Em," Bandit said, now laying down on his side of the bed. "Bandit we can't take that from him, he's been saving for a long time," Emily said now putting her book away. "Em he was listening to the whole thing," Bandit said now looking at his wife. "It's my fault I shouldn't have raised my voice at you or blamed you for trying to cheer him up," Emily said while resting her head on Bandit's. "Em, we're both to blame here but he's trying to help us," Bandit explained while also resting his head on his wife's. "He shouldn't have too he's just a little kid," Emily said turning over and looking away from Bandit.
"You know, I was thinking… what if we moved back to Australia," Bandit suggested. "What?" Emily said turning to look back at Bandit. "Yeah, we could move into my parents old house because it's getting to big for them and then we can plan on another baby and…" Bandit started to explain until Emily cut him off. "Bandit, we can't do that!" Emily said, now sitting up. "Sure we can, and Thomas will be closer to family and…" Bandit tried again to explain his plan of action but again was cut off by Emily. "Bandit! We can't afford to just pack up and move to a whole another country!" Emily said raising her voice. "Shh, you'll wake him up," Bandit said softly. "Then drop the idea!" Emily whispered aggressively as she turned back over away from Bandit. "Em… you used to love it there, it's where we met for the first time," Bandit explained. "It's also where I lost a child!" Emily snapped. Bandit instantly felt bad about the suggestion. "Em… that was a long time ago," Bandit said as he placed his hand on Emily's shoulder. Emily jerked away from her husband and got up from the bed. "But it still hurts Bandit," Emily said as she was about to leave the room. "Em where are you going?" Bandit asked as Emily opened the door to their room. "I need some time to think, just go to sleep or your be tired for work in the morning," Emily said as she wiped her tears away. "Emily," Bandit said as Emily left the room and went into the living room to draw. Bandit felt bad for what he had brought up, but all he wanted to do was do what was best for his family. Bandit then turned off the lights and closed his eyes and went to sleep.
