HAPPY HALLOWEEN AND HAPPY LATE WICKED DAY Y'ALL! I am so so sorry that I have posted or updated any stories lately! I have been working so hard and I even had to work overtime because of the staff shortages so I never had any time to write and post.
Anyways I just want to get this story out of the way because i have wrote this so many months ago but it needed some tweaking so I spent a little while fixing it until I have a chance to really post it. So please read, leave good reviews and enjoy! Be sure to check out my other stories! Hopefully soon I can get back to writing them, they are currently on hiatus! Till next time, GOODNIGHT! PEACE!
Elphaba yawned once again as she listens to her literature Professor drone on the lesson.
The lesson wasn't boring to her. She was only tired. Very tired. She hasn't slept for two days straight and she doesn't know why. She wanted to sleep, her body yearns for rest but only her brain wouldn't cooperate.
She has her head in her hands hoping for class to end so she can go back to her dorm for a nap.
Thankfully class had ended and everyone had left. Elphaba gets up pushing her books in her bag but ends up falling over to the floor scattering everywhere.
"Oh…"
Fiyero, Boq and Galinda went to pick up the books for her.
"Thanks," Elphaba says wishing that she picked them up herself but her body doesn't feel like it at the moment. In fact, her body is as slow as molasses.
"Are you ok Elphie?" Galinda asked concerned for her best friend.
She yawns in reply covering her mouth politely with her hand. "I'm fine. Just tired actually. I haven't slept at all in two days straight."
"Awww Elphie," Galinda gushes feeling bad for her. "I didn't know."
Elphaba sighs wearily, "It's alright. I don't have any classes for the rest of the day so I can go take a nap. When you come in the room Galinda, please don't disturb me. I'll see you all later."
"Alright, see you," the others said almost in sync feeling pity for the poor green girl.
She then left and headed back to her and Galinda's dorm and collapsed on the bed lazily kicking her shoes off to the floor next to her.
The green girl sighs contently and closes her eyes awaiting sleep to come…
Two hours later…
… She tossed and turned. Nothing happened.
She has always hated insomnia with burning fiery passion. She has had it before but not like this. In fact, this time is the worst compared to the other times she had it. Surly enough she likes to stay up for a few hours late into the night reading or studying but knew that sleep is important for her brain if she wants to do well in class.
"Ugh!" She groaned turning over burying her head in her pillow. "Not again!"
Elphaba would rather suffocate herself with the pillow than waiting for sleep to come.
She heard the door creek open and shut. And also hears a soft tip toe across the room. She knew the sound belonged to Galinda.
Giving up she sat up and rubbed her tired eyes. Galinda noticed putting her shopping bags down.
"Oh Elphie! I'm so sorry I disturbed you. I tried to be quiet!"
"You didn't," she yawns again. "I still have trouble getting to sleep."
"You were awake all this time?"
"Laying here for two hours with my eyes shut? Yup. It's pointless!"
Immediately Galinda sits on the bed and gives her green best friend a hug. "I'm very sorry Elphie!"
Elphaba accepted the hug and unintentionally leaned onto her tiredly.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" The blonde girl asked.
The green girl replies, "Nothing really. I think I might sleep well tonight. I don't know but there is something really bothering me. And I don't even know what it is."
Galinda then helps narrowing it down. "Are you stressed out Elphie?"
"Not at this point, no." She shakes her head.
The blonde girl asked again, "Do you have an exam coming up?"
"Not for another week."
"Any assignments to hand in?"
"Already did them yesterday."
"Did you have a nightmare?"
"No."
Galinda sighs giving up. "I got nothing."
"I just have insomnia," Elphaba says annoyed and a little frustrated about it, "And it's the worst thing. I've had it before and it was usually due to stress about exams but this time I don't know what was keeping me awake. My entire body wants sleep but my brain just won't and I want to know why."
Just then the blonde asked, "Are you sure you don't need help?"
"I think I'll be ok…"
BOY was she wrong!
It was the next day and Elphaba still hasn't slept. Dark circles grew under her chocolate brown eyes and she moves at a much slower pace. This made Galinda worry as they head to the cafeteria for breakfast and meet up with Fiyero and Boq.
"I changed my mind. I do need your help," Elphaba sighs tiredly. "I feel worse!"
Galinda asked worried, "Still haven't slept?"
"Nope." She yawned slightly stretching her arms above her head. "Three nights in the row! This is getting ridiculous!"
Fiyero came over along with Boq joining in on the conversation. When Fiyero saw her tired face he gasps, "Woah! Green girl, you look like a zombie!"
Elphaba glared at him.
"Are you alright?" He immediately asked genuinely concerned.
Galinda answered for her, "She hasn't slept in three nights Fiyero."
"Really?"
"She tried to take a nap even, she didn't get any rest at all."
Elphaba only rubbed her tired eyes with the palm of her hand.
"Did you find ways to fall asleep? Like counting sheep?" Fiyero asked.
"Tried that."
"Reading a book?"
"Yup."
"Drinking milk?"
"Mm-hmm"
"Sleeping vials?"
"Nothing at all," she said explaining. "I even went to the library the other day to find books about insomnia. They didn't work either. I need your help."
"Sure," the three replies very willing.
Fiyero says, "We'll help you."
Boq volunteers, "I'll go first. I got philosophy later today."
It was after Life Sciences class and Elphaba goes back to her dorm room and sat on her bed waiting on Boq. In the meantime she reads a novel she borrowed from the library.
Just then she heard the knock on the door and it opened revealing Boq.
"Hey Boq. Come on in."
"Hello Elphaba..."
Boq took a few steps into the room and sat down on Galinda's bed.
They sat in awkward silence for a few seconds and Boq clears his throat.
"So... You have trouble sleeping huh?"
"Yeah. It's insomnia," Elphaba replies. "It's getting on my nerves."
Boq sighs sarcastically, "Tell me about it."
She looks up to his eyes and asked, "You have insomnia too? I thought I was the only one in this school!"
"Nope. I always had it! But I have a trick that can help me overcome it."
"I want to know!" Elphaba wants to hear it so she can get to sleep right away.
"I start by getting comfortable with the bed that has mattress and warm sheets." He looks at her bed and frowned. "You sleep on that?"
The green girl replies, "Yeah? Problem?"
He felt the mattress and said, "This is as hard as a rock! And those sheets feel really cold and scratchy." He looks at the old worn and very tattered blanket that's on top of it. "And is that the only blanket that you have?"
"Yes."
Boq shook his head. "You need a real mattress and warm sheets and everything! El it's no wonder you are having insomnia!"
"I sleep just fine on my bed. When I started here, I had no problem with that."
He then said, "I can offer you a blanket or something-"
"That's ok! I don't need anything!"
"But I insist!"
Elphaba was about to say something but a yawn came up and she politely covered her mouth with her hand. She is starting to see no point into arguing with her friend. She then nods in agreement.
Boq smiled at himself knowing that he won.
"I'll be back in about 10 clock-ticks." He got up leaving Elphaba in her dorm alone. Just liked he said, he managed to come back in 10 minutes and he brought in a soft and warm blue blanket.
Boq hands it over to Elphaba. "Here," he says. "This is a spare blanket from my closet. It's never used. You can have it."
This warms the green girl's heart. It was so kind of her friend even though she didn't need it.
Her green hand strokes it. It did feel really soft. She hugs it close to her.
"Thank you Boq," she said softly.
"You're welcome… Do you want to try it?"
Reluctantly, she nodded yes. She laid down on her bed pulling the blanket up to her shoulders.
"This feels nice," she murmured closing her tired eyes.
It was Boq's cue to leave knowing that she might fall asleep any second. He tip-toed to the door. He was just about to reach for the doorknob he heard her voice.
"It's not working."
Turning around, he saw that she's still awake sitting up on her bed.
Elphaba rubbed her eyes. "I don't know what it is. The blanket did help a little though. I'm sorry Boq."
"That's alright. There's probably another reason why."
Just then the door opened and Galinda stepped inside.
"Hi Elphie! Hello Boq!"
Boq replies, "Hello Galinda."
Her best friend was about to reply but stopped. Did she just call him Boq instead of Biq?
"I swear to Oz that I might be hallucinating! You called him Boq instead of Biq!?"
"Yes I did Elphie!"
Boq then announces to the girls, "I'm gonna go. I'm late for class. See you both later?"
Galinda then replies, "Yes. See you!"
And with that he says goodbye and leaves the two alone in their dorm.
"So Elphie, how are you feeling?"
The green girl replied with another yawn. "Not good. I still can't fall asleep. The blanket Boq gave me felt really nice though."
"Oooooh!" Her best friend squeals excitedly. "Is it my turn to help!?"
"I guess…"
Galinda grinned. "Goodie! Follow me!" She then takes Elphaba's arm and dragged her out of the dorm.
"Didn't we have breakfast like hours ago?" Elphaba asked when she sees a plateful of sugary breakfast pastries in front of her. They both sat outside near the quad at the table across from each other.
Galinda scoffs giving her a cup of coffee as well, "Yes silly, but this is just an experiment! All the muffins and cupcakes and croissants and everything in between! It'll energize you!"
Elphaba looked at her roommate puzzled taking coffee. This explains so much. She thought.
"Ummm… Galinda? Is this gonna keep me more awake? I really want to sleep."
"It will for a little bit, and before you know it, you will end up in a sugar crash with a bit of a full tummy and will end up falling asleep in no time. Trust me on this one please, please, please!"
Elphaba gave up sighing loudly, "Fine."
She drinks the coffee and eats all the breakfast pastries. But she somehow felt nothing.
"It's not working," Elphaba gulped hoping that the breakfast doesn't reappear as she hears gurgling coming from her stomach.
Galinda smiled slightly. "Give it five minutes..."
Five minutes later...
Elphaba's legs won't stop shaking. The green fingers on her hands won't stop wiggling and she was bouncing up and down.
"This isn't working Galinda! My legs won't stop moving! My eyes feel twitchy! I can't feel my stomach!" Elphaba shouts quickly as her legs desire to run around and without thinking, it did. She started running past the students around the quad. Galinda who was watching her hyperactive green friend for a few minutes grew concerned.
"Maybe caffeine wasn't helping after all..." She says to herself.
Boq and Fiyero came over.
"Hey? How is she doing?" Fiyero asked wanting to know how she's feeling.
"Well... I may have sort of... Caffeinated her."
He asked confused, "What?"
"I was hoping that when her body crashes, she'll sleep like a baby in no time!"
Boq asked, "Does it usually work on you?"
"It does... Sometimes."
"What do you mean sometimes?" Fiyero asked once again feeling a little upset that Galinda has done a stupid idea.
The blonde girl didn't answer and just then they hear someone coughing and they look seeing that Elphaba came back slowly looking more tired and pretty sick. Her skin turned into an even paler shade of green.
"Are you ok?"
Elphaba gagged and covered her mouth with her hand. "Nope." And she bolted into a run to find a nearby trash can. The other three looked on with sympathy and disgust
Galinda sighs, "I'll bring her to the nurses office. I'll see you both later?"
"Sure Galinda," Boq says leaving as he did not want to watch a green girl get sick.
"See you," Fiyero waves leaving also.
It was later in the afternoon and Elphaba who was feeling a little better from before but still exhausted went over to Nessarose's dorm knowing that she is free. The pale green color on her skin vanished returning to the normal shade of emerald.
She knocks on the door and hears Nessa's voice. "Come in."
She opens the door finding her sister in her wheelchair studying at her desk.
"Oh Fabala! What brings you here?" Nessarose asked.
She replies, "I need your help. I haven't slept the past three nights Nessa. This insomnia is killing me and I want to sleep so much! Do you think you can help me?"
"Of course Fabala," Nessa says willing to help.
"Thank Oz! Boq's idea didn't help and Galinda made me throw up. Literally. But I'm better now."
Her sister looked at her in sympathy. "It's alright! I can help you! I'll sing to you like you always sang to me. You can even sleep on my bed."
"Awww Nessa. You don't have to give up your bed for me," Elphaba yawned and stretched her slim body.
Nessarose smiled slightly. "I can definitely. I'll spend the night in the chair if I wanted to. Now lay down Fabala."
Her sister obeyed and laid down on Nessarose's small bed. It wasn't as comfortable as her own but she doesn't mind.
She asked concerned for her sisters well-being, "Won't that give you a crick in your back or neck?"
"It will but I'll be alright. Your health is more important. Now hush so I can sing."
Elphaba breathes deeply and closed her eyes and Nessa starts to sing. It was a Munchkinlander lullaby that her sister used to sing when they were little. She would sing it to Nessa whenever she was sick, has nightmares or even thunderstorms that scare her. Elphaba would be the one to calm her down and make sure she would be alright. That is one of the things Nessarose is most grateful for.
As Nessa sings, Elphaba's body starts to go numb. She thinks that it's working, but her brain still won't shut down. Though the song felt nice, it still didn't help.
After the song ends, she opens her eyes seeing that Nessa was still by her side and groaned.
"Sorry Nessa… I guess it only works whenever I sing it to you."
"That's alright Fabala," Nessa says and Elphaba stands up, giving her a kiss on the head before leaving her.
Fiyero was in his dorm room studying for a test but then hears the knock on the door.
"Who is it?" He asked in a sing-song voice.
"Elphaba," came a tired reply at the other side of the door.
Immediately, Fiyero gets up and opens the door revealing an extremely exhausted Elphaba.
"Hey," he says gently. "How are you feeling?"
She answers with pure sarcasm, "Oh I feel great! So great!" She wanders in the room. "Right as rain, fresh as daisies!"
"Are you sure? You don't look so good."
Elphaba glares at him. "Have you ever heard of sarcasm!?" She nearly shouts.
"I have. Just calm down," Fiyero says still gentle. "So you still haven't found a way to overcome your insumnini-"
"Insomnia! It's insomnia Fiyero!"
"Ok Ms. Cranky Pants, just-"
"I AM NOT CRANKY!"
Just then they heard something shatter on the other side of the room. They both turn to see that the vase which was sitting small table on the other side of the room has broken into a million pieces.
"Ugh! Not again!" Elphaba groans after finding that her magic has been unleashed... Again. "I'm sorry Fiyero! It's my magic! I still can't control it and it really had gotten so much worse! With the lack of sleep I've been getting, the more irritated I get and the more irritated I get, I unintentionally explode! Earlier after I left Nessa's dorm, I yelled at a student on a bicycle causing him to fly into a tree, and that one girl in class knocked my books over on purpose, I accidentally almost set her hair on fire! Thankfully no one was hurt, but it's going out of control and I swear if I don't sleep soon, I might as well set the entire university on fire! I'm sorry about your vase!"
She takes a deep breath calming down after apologizing.
Fiyero says examining the broken pieces, "I never really cared about that old vase anyways. I was planning on getting rid of it someday."
"No really, I feel bad."
"Well don't be. I'll clean it up."
"Um… No need." She says awkwardly. She holds her hand out stretched toward the mess and mumbled something under her breath. Just a moment later, the mess disappears into thin air.
Fiyero watches in amazement. "How did you do that?"
"I took sorcery classes with Madame Morrible and this is one of the simplest spells she taught me during my first few weeks here."
"Interesting."
Elphaba now wants to cut to the chase as much as she would like to spend some time with Fiyero. "Anyways, can you please help me Fiyero? You are my last hope! I tried everything! Nothing was working! Please?"
"Of course I will help! You are my… Friend!" Fiyero trails off feeling hesitant.
He has been thinking for the past week since the lion cub incident and for some reason, Fiyero starts having feelings for her. And after he and Galinda broke off the relationship and remain friends just recently, he wants to wait for the right moment to confess to Elphaba. But not right now. Her health is more important.
"How do you do it!?"
"Do what?" He asked snapping out of his thoughts confused.
"Sleep! You sleep all the time! You slept through lectures! You even slept through almost running me over with that cart the day we met!"
He smiles thinking about that day. "Yeah, good times."
"How do you do it Mr. Dancing Through Life!?"
He chuckles, "It's easy! You just let it go."
The green girl looked confused.
"Excuse me, what?"
"Let it go. Let your brain relax. Have it go into the unknown…"
Elphaba stops him. "I'm sorry, how is this helping me fall asleep?"
The prince replies somewhat logically, "I am just saying that there is a lot of stress built into your brain for a while and you probably have never released the tension that goes on in there. This sounds like you never even heard of it before."
"That's because I have never heard of it ever… Alright, I might have… But I just refuse to do it."
"Well green girl, welcome to Relaxation 101 with yours truly."
That made the green lips on Elphaba's mouth curl into a small smile. Her eyes rolled a little as well but went along with it.
Fiyero says as he's about to teach, "Let the session begin. Take a seat."
Going along with it, Elphaba went to sit on the ottoman in front of Fiyero's king sized bed.
"Thanks… Yero." She yawns hugely leaving the first part of his name out though she says his name.
Fiyero couldn't help but chuckle at the tired green girl. She looks absolutely adorable in that state.
"I like that."
Elphaba asked suddenly confused, "What?"
"You called me Yero," he said liking the nickname. She then apologized.
"I'm sorry, I just yawned. I couldn't get the name out-"
"That's alright. I still like it when you call me Yero." Fiyero says blushing a little bit. "Now what can I call you?"
"You're giving me a nickname? Aren't you supposed to be teaching me how to relax?"
He pushed it aside. "We will once I figure out what to call you. To be honest, Elphaba sounds like a mouthful."
"Green girl? You called me that," she answers.
"Yes." Fiyero suggests, "But can I call you something else?"
Elphaba sighs, "Fine but don't call me Elphie! I never liked it but I let Galinda call me that anyways since we're friends now."
"I never liked my name Fifi," Fiyero says in disgust. "I get the feeling… Any other names?"
"Well Nessa called me Fabala when we were little."
Fiyero then thinks. "Hmmmm… Fabala… How about Fae?"
"Fae?"
"Yeah. It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"
Too tired to care at this point, Elphaba sighs, "Fine, can we please get a move on Yero?"
Then Fiyero starts teaching her, "Now, first off, release all that tension that you have going on. Focus on sleep. Let it come to you. Close your eyes."
She obeys and closes her eyes.
Fiyero continues, "Now focus on deep breathing. Inhale in slowly."
The green girl once again obeys and breathes in.
"Now exhale."
And she breathes out. She was slowly feeling more relaxed. His voice was so soothing to her. It sounded a little deep but gentle.
But her mind suddenly went onto something else. Something she hasn't thought in the past couple days.
"Let your mind wander into the unknown…"
Fiyero thought the green girl had fallen asleep sitting up but her eyes were open once again and she gives up entirely.
"Sorry Fiyero," she says, "I was hoping it would work."
"Don't despair Fae, it's just your first time-"
"It's not just that. This… This doesn't feel right."
Now Fiyero got confused.
"What?" He asked.
Elphaba replied standing up quickly almost getting dizzy, "I appreciate the help, I really do but it's just that… I mean-I-Um-I… UGH! I'm gonna go." She stands up from the ottoman and starts to go for the door.
"Elphaba wait! You don't have to leave," Fiyero said wanting her to stay.
"I think I need to be alone," she says opening the door and walks out of his dorm room.
Fiyero wonders if it's something that he said that made her leave. And it sounded like Elphaba was hiding something and didn't want to tell him. He started to ponder about it.
It was a half an hour later into the evening when Fiyero met up with Boa, Galinda and Nessa in the cafeteria for dinner. He brought over a plate of food and sat down next to them.
"Hey guys," Fiyero greets sitting down noticing that there was a certain green girl missing. "Where's Elphaba?"
"I don't know. I haven't seen her since I took her to the nurses office after she got sick," Galinda answers. "Why?"
The prince asked getting a little worried, "Wasn't she in your dorm?"
"No, I just came from there," Galinda answers twirling her pasta. "Maybe she's in the library?"
Boq then join in, "I was just at the library. I didn't see her."
Nessarose quickly got worried, "You don't think she went missing, don't you?"
"No way, she couldn't have gone far," Fiyero said. "I was just with her about a half hour ago. I tried to help her but then unexpectedly she left. I could've sworn she was hiding something from me and she never said a word about what it is. And maybe it's just a theory, but I think what she was hiding might be the key to unlock her insomnia problem."
"You think so?" Galinda asked.
Fiyero nodded. "She looked worried and overwhelmed about something when she left. I don't know if it's something I said that made her leave."
Nessarose assure him. "It's definitely not you Fiyero. Maybe something else was bothering her."
"Yes, like that time she was so distraught when Dr. Dillamond was fired last week."
Suddenly the other three looked up to the blonde and Fiyero's face was full of shock. Galinda looked up about to ask what are they looking at but had realized she might've cracked the code.
"Could that be the answer?" Boq asked.
Fiyero then figures out where Elphaba might be. "I think I know where she is." He quickly ate his food and left after telling the group, "Meet me at the poppy field near the Gilikin forest."
Just as he had suspected, Fiyero found her.
Sitting on the ground, leaning back against a tree trunk behind her with her eyes shut as the beautiful orange sun sets over the beautiful red poppies in front of her. The beautiful orange light shines on her emerald skin. She takes a deep breath hearing the sounds around her.
"That's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!" Fiyero says taking in the views in awe along with the sunset.
Elphaba jumped at the sound of Fiyero's voice. Her eyes open though they felt like weights.
"Hey..." Elphaba said wanting to get up and leave but her entire body was so exhausted that she couldn't even pick herself up.
"Hey," he replies clearing his throat and asked, "Mind if I join you?"
Elphaba wants to say no but doesn't want to hurt the prince's feelings, so she nods and Fiyero sat down joining her leaning against the tree.
"So... Um... What exactly are you doing out here and not inside? We were wondering where you are."
She answers unintentionally leaning on him putting her head on his shoulder though he didn't mind of course. "Well, I've been coming here for the past week. For some reason I love spending my free time out here. I usually look at sunsets, read a book, do some studying. Watch the beautiful poppies across the field as the sun sets... And this grass is soft..." She then yawns closing her eyes again. "…And I've been coming here since... Um... You know."
Fiyero then finishes, "Since that day we released the lion cub?"
"No, you released it into the wild. I've been here thinking about everything about you and me... I've been thinking about it a lot... I was finding myself attracted to you because you are so handsome…"
Elphaba has awakened herself and realized what she just said. She quickly sat up, opening her eyes and looks up at Fiyero's shiny blue eyes.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! I am so tired that I was not thinking straight-"
"Elphaba it's ok!"
"No it is not!" She shouts, "I've been hiding my feelings for you without knowing I really have! I just passed it off like it was nothing and I don't know why! I want to tell you but I am scared-"
She looks like as if she was about to cry and Fiyero quickly takes the green girl into his arms and holds her, stroking her raven black hair and soothing her. For that some reason, she found it comforting.
"Shhhh… It's ok Fae… Just tell me what your feelings are about me. It's ok. I won't get mad," Fiyero says gently.
She takes a deep breath, releasing herself from the hug, sits up facing him and opens up to him, "I think I like you Fiyero. No, I wasn't thinking. I love you! When I touched your hand and met your blue eyes, I found some sort of connection between you and I. I thought it was nothing but I couldn't stop thinking about it. There! I said it!"
He couldn't believe what he was hearing. She loves him.
The green girl continues sadly, "I guess now you're gonna leave me here alone, huh?"
"What? No Fae! I wouldn't leave you!" Fiyero said. "In fact, I have something to tell you too!"
He then opens up to her his feelings now.
"I've been thinking about that day a lot too! And actually, I found myself falling head over heels for you. I should've told you sooner but I was worried about how you would react. I didn't want to make you upset with me or anything."
"I wouldn't be," she says getting really sleepy. "So... You love me even though I'm green."
"I absolutely do! And your green color is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen."
She chuckles a little bit. "I thought you said the sunset was."
"I lied."
Both of them laugh at that. There was only one thing left on Elphaba's mind. "But what about Galinda?"
"What about her?" He questions back.
She grew confused. "Aren't you dating her?"
"Well, we broke up a few days ago."
"What?!"
Elphaba sat up again looking at his now puzzled face.
"Why didn't anyone tell me?!"
"Because he was worried you'll reject his feelings toward you."
The voice belonged to Galinda as she, Boq and Nessa came over to the tree. Galinda went to sit down next to Elphaba and gave her a hug.
"Are you alright Elphaba?" Boq asked.
She just nods and turns to Galinda worried that she'll get mad at her for stealing her boyfriend.
"I'm so sorry Galinda, I hope you're not mad at me or anything! This isn't what it looks like."
The blonde giggled letting go of the hug. "No! It's ok Elphie! I figured that he was into you! Also I am into someone else!"
The green girl looks over to Boq who was holding Galinda's hand.
"You two are together?"
Galinda nodded and Elphaba looks at her sister still confused.
"But I thought you and Boq are together."
"We decided to stay friends," Nessa replies calmly. "We weren't right for each other anyways."
"Awwww… I'm so sorry Nessa," she yawns sleepily and Fiyero wraps his arms around her for a hug pulling her into his lap and she leans into him resting her head on his chest.
The wheelchair bound girl only smiled. "It's alright Fabala. I'm not upset. Not one bit. There is always somebody else."
Elphaba smiled back a little and looks toward the western sky with the others as the light fades making it dark. The sounds of birds singing have been replaced by crickets chirping. Fireflies start glowing as they fly around the poppies in front of them.
Boq broke the silence after few seconds. "Should we head back?"
Fiyero agrees still having the green girl in his arms and is about to get up, "Yeah. It's getting dark. Let's go Fae."
There was no answer from the green girl.
"Fae?"
"Elphie?"
The four look at Elphaba who's eyes have drifted shut and her dark green lips parted halfway. She was breathing evenly and her face look very much relaxed.
"Look, Elphie's sleeping," Galinda whispers with a smile. "Awwww…"
"Finally," Fiyero sighs in relief that it was all over. Elphaba has finally overcome her insomnia that her entire body and mind had crashed. He continues stroking her hair as she peacefully slept on.
Nessa whispers a question, "Should we bring her to her dorm and put her to bed?"
Fiyero thinks about it and answers shaking his head, "I don't wanna wake her. Besides…" He hears crickets along with warm soft breeze blowing on them. "…It feels nice tonight. I think I'll stay out here and sleep under the stars."
"Well, we should at least get you some blankets to keep warm," Nessa says.
"I gave her a new one," Boq says going to leave. "It's in her dorm, I'll go get it." With that he walks back to campus.
"I have to go back, it's almost my curfew otherwise Morrible will send someone to look for me. Goodnight," Nessa says gently petting her elder sister's head before wheeling away following Boq.
Galinda still sat next to Fiyero as he still holds the sleeping green girl. She gives her best friend a kiss on the forehead.
"I think I know what cured her insomnia," she says quietly. "It's you."
"Me?"
She explains so much softly that she doesn't wake up Elphaba. "She's been hiding her feelings for you too long without even knowing she did. She thought it was nothing. That's what kept her awake all this time. She really loves you Fiyero."
Fiyero says sounding happy, "I really don't know what I would do without you Galinda. You truly are her best friend."
Galinda returned a smile. "I really am. Am I?"
"Yes. Thank you."
"You're welcome. You both deserve each other and I have Boq. Ooooh! We should double date sometime!"
He nodded his head. "We definitely should."
Just then Boq returned with the same blanket from before. He hands it to Galinda who unfolded it and drapes it over both Elphaba and Fiyero, tucking it around her shoulders. The green girl never moved. She was very deeply asleep after all. Fiyero was very positive that she'll sleep through the night, all morning and maybe not wake up till sometime in the afternoon.
The tall Munchkin helps the blonde girl up to her feet.
"Are you gonna be ok out here?" She asked the prince.
Fiyero nodded. "I think we'll be ok. If it rains tonight, I can bring her back inside."
The two nodded and whispered their goodnights before leaving hand in hand.
Soon the prince and the green girl were left alone again as the moon started to rise above the fields and the stars came out twinkling beautifully over the darkness. Fiyero remained awake watching the moon and his now girlfriend. The moon glow has shone from the sky and it illuminates the grass, the trees, the flowers and Elphaba's green skin making it look pale. He felt that they should do it more often. Spending their time outdoors on very calm nights.
He continues stroking her hair as very quiet breaths continue to escape out of her mouth. He smiles at how young and vulnerable she looked. Then he places a kiss on top of her head and whispers softly to Elphaba knowing that she wouldn't hear him. "I love you Elphaba Thropp. Sweet dreams."
