The Boxer and The Doctor

Chapter 10, The Wedding and Their Future

In 2004 when Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriages, they got legally married. First, they did the simple court house wedding in June and then planned a destination wedding the following year. Angela was so happy, her daughter was getting married, well her daughters. Angela loved Maura and was so happy she would legally be able to marry Jane. Now if she can just convince them to have some grandbabies.

The plans were all set. Their destination wedding would take place in Santorini Greece. Maura had always pictured her dream wedding being at a location overlooking a volcano. Jane, Maura and Angela made all the arrangements. Arianna helped and actually scoped out a few places for them.

Their wedding day finally arrived everybody was standing up. Maura looked around and then glanced down the aisle and saw Jane standing there looking so damn handsome in her tuxedo. Jane was so beautiful Maura couldn't take her eyes off of her. She wanted to run to her and kiss her and hug her. She had missed her this afternoon. She wanted to be spending her time with her wife. She had fun with the ladies this afternoon, but she wanted Jane there with her. She needed Jane there with her. Ever since she first laid eyes on Jane, she had felt a pull towards her and right now she was being pulled to the altar to be with Jane.

Jane felt tears in her eyes when she saw Maura at the entrance. She was drop-dead gorgeous in her wedding dress. She couldn't wait to tell her how beautiful she looked and how much she loved her. Jane had learned something about herself over the years and that is that she is not that patient. When she wants something, she wants it then and she doesn't want to wait. She wanted Maura to be at the altar with her right now, she didn't want to wait any longer for her. It was like torture. Ever since she met her, she had been pulled to her like a magnet. She wanted Maura with her all the time. She wanted her with her at the altar right now. She wondered 'what was taking her so long to walk down the aisle.' Jane needed Maura, she needed her now, right now.

Arianna looked at Maura and then at Jane. She could see the tears in both of their eyes and she reached over and touched Jane's forearm. Jane didn't take her eyes off of Maura. Arianna said, "Breathe Jane, just breathe, she will be here with you in a few minutes. Jane didn't answer she just reached over and touched Arianna's hand. Jane wiped her eyes one at a time so she could still see Maura. She couldn't believe how beautiful the dress was. Maura had told her about her dream wedding in Santorini and what her dress would look like and the dress was just as she described. Actually, the dress was more beautiful because of the woman inside of it. Maura was absolutely stunning in the dress.

The officiant asked that they hold hands. "Jane and Maura please join hands. Jane and Maura have written their own vows that they will now exchange with each other. Jane would you please begin?"

Jane looked at the officiant and then at Maura and said, "Maura, I have loved you since I first met you. I was pulled to you like a magnet. I am a better person having you in my life. I take you, Maura Isles to be my wife and partner in life. To be your partner in life for as long as I breathe. In good times and bad times, I vow to love and cherish you today, tomorrow, and forever."

As soon as Jane said forever Maura began. "Jane, I also have loved you since we first met. I have never loved someone as deeply as I love you. You are my heart and soul. I am also a better person with you in my life. I take you, Jane Rizzoli, to be my wife and partner in life. To be your partner in life for as long as I breathe. In good times and bad times, I vow to love and cherish you today, tomorrow, and forever."

The officiant said, "May I have the rings please?" Frankie passed the rings to Jane who passed them to the officiant. The officiant continued, "Rings symbolize love and by exchanging rings here in front of these witnesses you are giving each other a reminder of the love and life-long commitment you are making to each other here tonight."

"Jane please repeat after me, I give you this ring, as a reminder of my love and commitment to you." Jane slid the ring on Maura's finger and repeated, "Maura, I give you this ring, as a reminder of my undying love and commitment to you." Maura looked at the officiant and then to Jane and slid the ring on Jane's finger and said, "Jane, my love, I give you this ring, as a daily reminder of my eternal love and commitment to you."

The officiant then said, "I present Jane and Maura Rizzoli-Isles. Jane and Maura walked hand-in-hand down the aisle and right over to where the reception would now take place. They stopped so they could greet all of the guests as they entered the reception area. After all the hugs and congratulations Jane and Maura sat at the head table. Dinner was immediately served.

They danced and had a great time. A few hours later they made their way back to their hotel. They would spend the next week in Santorini seeing the sights. Although it was their honeymoon, they had opted to make it a family event. They had been together for years already and they valued their family. They spent their wedding night by themselves they would spend the week with family and enjoy Greece and then go back to Boston and back to work.

In August of 2006 when Maura turned 30 years-old she was given a major role on the Isles Foundation Board of Directors and started having to fulfill some family obligations. She and Jane had talked about that and the lawyer had told them that because they were now legally married Maura could appoint Jane to a position on the board as well. Jane accepted the position Maura appointed her to and accompanied Maura to all of the social functions that Maura's position as head of the Isles Foundation required her to attend.

In December of 2006 Maura gave birth to their son, Marcus James Rizzoli-Isles. Angela was excited. She had a grandson. She was in heaven. She had wanted to be a grandmother for so long. Maura gave birth to three more children over the next four years: a boy Angelo Joseph and twin girls, Liliana Marie and Katherine Marianna. All four children were biologically related to Maura. They used the same sperm donor for all four children. Jane knew how important it was for Maura to have biological family members.

In March of 2007 Jane was promoted to Detective. Two years later she was loaned out to Homicide and they never let her go back. In June of 2009 she was assigned to Homicide. In June of 2014 she was promoted to Sergeant and had two homicide detectives working with her.

Maura was promoted to Chief of Pediatrics in May of 2005. She continued to perform surgeries and was offered other positions within the hospital's administration but she turned them down, she was happy where she was and she wanted to continue working with patients. If she had taken the other promotions, she would have stopped seeing her patients eventually and she didn't want that. She had paperwork to do in her current position but she was still able to see patients and that is ultimately what she wanted to do. She was a doctor because she wanted to help save lives.

Jane and Maura were very happy with their four children and the life they had made for the six of them. Jane looked back often and was so happy that she had broken her nose that night back when she was twenty years old. The hospital visit brought her to where she was today, happily married with a wonderful wife and four children.
