Author Notes - Happy Halloween (assuming it's the 31st in your timezone)! You may remember I said that I was going to write a little mini-sequel to Tomb Service about Luigi and Daisy having their wedding at the titular hotel. Well, here it is!
It's gonna be a LOT shorter than Tomb Service (thank god), and the stakes are gonna be a lot lower too so don't expect anything as grand as the main story. This is just a lighthearted and fun little story focusing on the Last Resort ghosts after the events of the games. I refuse to stop using them now, and will hopefully write more stories starring them in the future. For now, enjoy this little story!
I'm writing this story (have I said that word enough times today yet?) in a way that those who haven't read or don't remember Tomb Service won't be lost, but there will be SPOILERS for that story. Obviously. I don't blame you if you don't wanna read that epic novel, but just a heads up, you know?
CHAPTER ONE - A FEW YEARS AFTER THE ADVENTURE
You've been invited to the wedding of Luigi and Princess Daisy! The wedding between these two amazing people will be set in the Last Resort, a hotel well known for its friendly ghost staff. Hear the glorious music created by Amadeus Wolfgeist and DJ Phantasmagloria. Taste the delicious cakes baked by the legendary Chef Soulfflé. Watch the amazing tricks performed by the Twisted Sisters. It's a wedding you'll never forget!
It had been a few years since Luigi had been invited to the Last Resort with his friends and family. Of course, it had turned out to be a trick by the dastardly Hellen Gravely to win King Boo's approval, but - of course - Luigi and Daisy managed to overcome every challenge thrown their way and defeat the ghostly couple. Not only did they defeat King Boo once again, but they had taken everything away from Hellen Gravely: her hotel, her staff, and even her 'beloved' pet Polterkitty.
So much had happened to that hotel once Luigi saved the staff from their horrible and evil boss. Professor E. Gadd and Chambrea, who used to be a severely underpaid maid, were the new owners now, taking care of the staff much better than Hellen ever did. Steward and Johnny Deepend, after a while of confronting their fears, officially tied the knot, while William MacFrights and Serpci became parents! Dr Potter had become just slightly more tolerant of strangers, and Ug became a lot more willing to let people into his museum to ask him questions. Morty, who was finally able to move on peacefully after Luigi helped him finish his bizarre sci-fi/fantasy/romance movie, was still remembered and honoured by all his friends.
And, most of all, the mistreated pet of the previous Last Resort owner was now under the care of a certain green-clad plumber, where she not only found more love than she had received in years, but was now a mother herself to a mixed litter of kitties and puppies. Yes, the father is exactly who you think it is, and any questions you may have can be easily answered with 'ghost logic does not follow mortal logic'.
This day, a few years in the future almost to the date, marked a very important part of Luigi's life. And, well, you've read the title. I'm sure you can guess what it could possibly be.
'Hm… I'm not sure if this works. I kinda feel like I'm wearing one of those penguin suits. What do you guys think?'
He stood in front of a mirror, admiring himself in the reflection. A fancy black suit covered him from top to bottom, just the kind of suit you'd expect a groom to wear. Still, something didn't quite seem right. He did prefer his usual overalls, after all, but the day coming up was too good for simple plumber wear. His brother had convinced him that he could wear anything and wear it well, but looking at himself in the mirror, he wasn't quite so sure.
His pets surrounded him, here to 'critique' his get-up. Polterpup stood by the mirror, while Polterkitty - who rarely ever changed out of her big panther form, and today was no exception - had to sit on Luigi's bed for it was the only thing big enough in the room to handle her size. Polterpup gave his owner a somewhat incredulous expression, while Polterkitty had a big smile on her massive muzzle no matter what. The puppies and kittens were scattered around the room, sitting wherever they darn well pleased.
Pepperoni - one of the pink kitties, and the oldest of the litter - behaved himself and sat on the other side of the mirror to his father. Snowdrop - one of the white puppies - rolled over on the floor, for she was unable to stop moving. A white kitten whined and whined for food from the window sill, which long ago had earned her the appropriate name Li'l Whiner. A pink kitty by the name of Stanley simply sat in the sunlight on the bed, doing nothing but savouring the warmth.
The only pink puppy, the one named Cookie, had Luigi's cap in her mouth, and was getting her ectoplasmic drool all over it. Prince Meowse, another white kitten, acted upon his name and cleaned his face with all the proper form of a prince. The second white puppy, named Pluto, hardly paid any attention to the question and instead growled at the Paratroopa mailman who passed by the window. The littlest one of all - a young pink kitty who preferred her panther form 24/7 and was still smaller than her oldest siblings - jumped onto Luigi's head and belted out a long and happy 'mew'.
Luigi chuckled, and gave her a scratch behind the ears while she was still on his head. 'Alright, Luigi Jr, I'll go by your vote.'
He still wasn't quite sure with Daisy's decision to name one of the girls after him, but it was her decision and he had to admit that the name had grown on him over the years.
Polterpup gave Luigi an incredulous expression. 'Hmmm… I dunno. I don't think green suits you so well.'
Luigi cocked an eyebrow. 'Oh really now? Well, it's a shame I love green too much to mind, then. Isn't it?'
Polterkitty laughed. 'I think anything looks good on you, Master!
Ah, yes. Of course, Luigi still wore that universal translator on him wherever he went, and not just so he could understand his pets and their children either. It made some of his adventures with his brother a little less annoying if he could understand whatever someone was saying, whether they spoke a foreign language or could only communicate with animal noises.
Most of the youngins cheered him on too, except for Pluto who was still too busy yapping at the mailman, and Cookie couldn't cheer him on with his cap in her mouth.
'Well, I guess I'm ready to head off.' He said, taking a deep breath. 'I know that the actual wedding isn't for a couple of days now, but I should still hurry up and get to the Last Resort already. I just have to wait for-'
There was a knock, all the way on the front door.
'LUIGI!' Daisy's voice called from all the way outside. 'I'm ready to go when you are!'
Luigi yelped. 'Daisy's already here?!'
He ran out of the room and down the stairs as quickly and yet as safely as he could manage, with all his ghost cats and ghost dogs following closely behind him. When he reached the last step, he ended up missing it and fell flat on his face against the floor, but Polterpup got him right back on his feet again. The front door was right in front of him, past the living room and the kitchen.
'Should I just let myself in…?' Daisy asked. 'Or are you-?'
'I'LL BE RIGHT WITH YOU IN JUST A MOMENT!' Luigi shouted back.
Polterkitty shoved him forward with a headbutt, and he ran for the front door with as much energy as he could manage. It reminded him so much of running away from King Boo in the hallway, just without the super-high stakes.
Meanwhile, Daisy waited for him on the front porch. Unlike her husband-to-be, she wasn't too concerned about trying to get the costume right early, and so showed up in her usual orange dress. She hadn't really done her make-up either, aside from the small attempts she usually made everyday.
'I can come back later if you want!' She called. 'Or should I-?'
She flinched when the door suddenly went wide open, and she got greeted with loud barking before Pluto realised who she was. Luigi stood on the other side of the door, leaning over and panting quite heavily. Luigi Jr was still on his head, giving Daisy a cheeky smile as he sweated all over the floor.
'You okay?' Daisy asked.
'Yep…' Luigi replied, trying to get his breath back. 'The little ones really take it outta me…'
'Well, at least they're cute.'
'Cute? You kidding me? They're adorable! 'Cute' does not cut it.'
Luigi Jr mewed, making an adorable sound unfitting for her aggressive and unkempt appearance. For a moment, Luigi completely forgot how crazy his 'kids' drove him sometimes as he stared into Daisy's eyes. His fiance was even more beautiful than the day he met her, but he'd think that no matter how 'beautiful' or 'ugly' she really was. She could've arrived covered in mud and missing half her teeth, and it wouldn't change a thing.
Her personality would shine through no matter what.
'Is that what you're wearing to our wedding?' He asked. 'I mean, it looks good! And you can do what you want. But I think the guests may be expecting something more… extravagant.'
She scoffed. 'Hey, I've got this lovely white gown in mind. Not that it should be white, but see if I care. Peach is taking care of that for me, and I'll just wear it on the day. As for you… goodness, you look cute in a tuxedo!'
Like he did whenever he received a compliment of any kind, he blushed so hard his cheeks turned the colour of his brother's cap. Many of the ghost pets, including Polterpup, chuckled at his expense, and Daisy couldn't help but to giggle too.
'Really, sweetie?' She said. 'We're getting married in a few days - which I am SOOOO excited for, by the way! - and you're still blushing around me?'
'I, uh…' He tried to reply. 'Well, don't you think it's cute when I blush?'
'Absolutely adorable, actually, but yes. Ya got me there.'
She held out her hands to him, and he took them into his own hands. In his mind, Luigi was already rehearsing and re-rehearsing his wedding vows. Unfortunately, they were quite long and he often forgot what he had already said. Every attempt was followed up by him calling himself an idiot, unaware that Daisy was going through the same thing in her mind as well.
'MROOOOOOW!'
The whining of the aptly named Li'l Whiner snapped them both back into reality with a jump, and they found themselves surrounded by a swarm of ghost puppies and ghost kitties. Each ectoplasmic pet mewed and barked, with a few of them sounding increasingly impatient and frustrated. Snowdrop in particular wouldn't stop pulling at Daisy's dress.
'Drop it, Snowdrop!' Luigi scolded, before another pet tried misbehaving. 'Don't steal that crown, Cookie! No, Prince Meowse, we can't dedicate the wedding to you.' He sighed in exasperation. 'We were saying?'
Daisy giggled again. 'Looks like the little ones are raring to go. If we're gonna get to the Last Resort any time soon, I think we should hurry up.'
'Can we? My brother is already there waiting for me!'
'Well, let's get going then!'
The couple-to-be held hands as they stepped inside the house together with all the Polterpets following right behind them. As they waltzed through the living room, they couldn't help but to stare into each other's eyes. Many said that the eyes were the window to the soul, but to them it was the window to getting stuck staring for hours, if that makes any sense. After all, those eyes were so gorgeous and loving that no one could possibly resist them.
Blues so deep they put the shiniest of sapphires to shame… Daisy couldn't stand to let such a lovely and romantic moment pass by, so she held Luigi's hand tighter, stared even deeper into his eyes, and…
'WOAH!'
… promptly tripped on the living room rug, since she wasn't watching where she was going, and landed flat on her face. She dragged Luigi down with her and he fell to his knees. To add insult to injury, the puppies and kitties erupted into a chorus of jeering giggles.
'Oh!' Luigi cried, helping her off the ground. 'Are you alright?'
When she got back to her feet again, his heart skipped a beat. It took him a moment to realise that it wasn't a massive bruise on her face, but instead she was merely blushing. She rubbed the back of her head awkwardly, laughing like someone on a terrible reality TV show.
'Y-Yeah, I'm alright.' She replied with a giggle. 'Let this be proof that anyone who says that we're not meant for each other is wrong. One clumsy idiot to another.' She paused. 'Wait, that's not right. I'm the only idiot here.'
Luigi chuckled. 'No. We're both idiots.'
She shot him a cheeky smile. 'Well, don't you know what to say to a woman? Nah, just kidding. That's why we're made for each other.'
She glanced back at all the puppies and kitties behind her, as well as the little ghost panther sitting on Luigi's head. The only one who wasn't laughing was Pepperoni, who rolled his eyes at the others around him. Still, he was clearly just holding back a laugh anyway.
'Maybe we should hurry up.' Daisy said. 'Before we hurt ourselves again.'
'Couldn't agree more. Or my brother will keep going on and on about how he just can't leave me alone.'
Now, you may be wondering how on earth the loving couple hoped to get to the wedding on time. After all, the Last Resort was miles and miles away, and required a day-long bus trip to get to. A bus trip that, by the way, Luigi and Daisy neglected to arrange. The explanation is quite simple, you see, for our favourite couple wouldn't need to take a bus trip. Or anything like that.
As Luigi and Daisy, followed by their animal 'children', approached the middle of the room, Luigi made sure to find a nice big open space. Once he was certain there was plenty of room, he picked up a small red TV looking thing from the coffee table in the living room, and tossed it on the floor. In moments, the small TV grew to match almost Daisy's height and switched on. Its screen revealed the inside of the New Last Resort's lobby, and… oh my, was it a sight.
Remember how the Last Resort appeared all golden and shiny before it was all revealed to be an illusion? It was an illusion no more, for the hotel was now truthfully as golden and as shiny as it appeared. It was toned down just a little, though, to keep from being blinding to the light-sensitive ghosts. Though most of the details were a little hard to make out - spotty reception, you see - one could easily see a large amount of people and ghosts alike flooding the entire room.
Professor E. Gadd's E-Gate technology made the occasional visit to the Last Resort a piece of cake, and Luigi had made sure to visit his gooey counterpart Gooigi - who had renamed himself to 'Verde', to be less of a simple clone - as often as he could. The ghosts adored his visits too.
Daisy gulped. 'W-We're really gonna do it, huh?'
Luigi cocked an eyebrow. 'You're not nervous, are you?'
'Nervous? Nah. Heart's racing, palms are sweating, and I don't know what I'm doing anymore, but nervous? No way!'
The green-clad plumber frowned. 'You mean you really are nervous? Aw, please don't be. I-I know it's a little scary, but… why are you nervous?'
She shrugged. 'I guess… I just never thought this day would ever really come. I hoped it would, really! But, I just never thought that I would be the marriage type, ya know? I thought for a while that no man would want to marry a princess who burps at the dinner table, so it's weird that it's actually happening.'
Luigi chuckled, and gave her a big ol' hug. 'You didn't account for someone like me, did you?'
'Nope. Cos I never would've thought that a person so sweet and kind existed.'
With their arms interlocking - and with the ghostly animals close behind them - the couple-to-be took their steps at the same time and stepped through the E-Gate…
Author Notes - I'm not certain how long this story will be, but it won't be nearly as long as the behemoth that was Tomb Service. I'm not sure if I'll ever write a singular story that long ever again. Either way, Happy Halloween! Or happy November 1st, depending on when you get this chapter. Though, that would assume that everyone would read this the moment it comes out... oh never mind.
