Characters and Backgrounds

Making a what-if work from successful book and television series is a creative work of art. Creating new characters, incorporating existing known characters and making them mesh with respect for the original book and television series.

There will be several of these posted as chapters in both the first work, Game of Thrones – The Sky Knight and the second work, Game of Thrones – The Sky Knight, After the fall of the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones – The Sky Knight

The Sky Knight is a what-if story.

What if a man from a highly advanced world has been in a constant state of war, five thousand years of constant war with a few small breaks between wars. With highly advanced technology created for the sole purpose of war dropped into Westeros.

When I began to develop the storyline, I could have gone several different ways;

Jacob could have used his technology to conquer the world.

The people of Westeros could have seen him as entirely evil and hunted him down and burnt him at the stake.

Jacob could have tried to correct the damage from the shadows.

Jacob could interact with the indigenous population to correct the damage.

Options 1 & 2 will lead to the dead winning the war between the living and the dead.

Option 3 – Even with Jacobs's advanced technology, he would still have to interact with the indigenous population and require human intelligence assets. Putting the asset's lives in danger and on the run from people like Lord Baelish and Varys, who want his technology for two different purposes. This would be more likely to worsen the damage and make the fixed points needed for the ending outcome of winning the war between the living and dead unpredictable.

Option 4 was the best option that I could see. Interacting with the characters, destroying all of his advanced weapons, getting information through speaking with people and listening. As Jacob refers to it, the tree with a face, making a connection with it, allows him to work with the only person on the planet capable of identifying critical defining moments, The Three-Eyed Raven. Allowing Jacob to use the technology that he has left. His combat unit is over a thousand years more advanced, rendering it useless to anyone other than him.

The most important part was to fill in gaps in the television show that didn't make sense.

Terra Del Sol

Jacob's homeworld has very significant differences to ours;

They didn't call World Wars One and Two; they had already had World Wars. They called them the Wars of the Continents; they didn't end, so they didn't number them; they only referred to them the last War of Continents.

Kingdoms and the class systems had been brutally replaced with democratic republics that often went to war.

Jacob went through The Process that made him a Genetically Re-engineered Soldier. He looks human and is genetically compatible with normal humans, and this is where the similarity ends. His mental processes are as fast as five supercomputers, increased bone, muscle and mass density. Which increased his body weight; he was almost half a metric ton before arriving in the North. His skin is bullet and stab-resistant; specialized medical tools are needed to perform surgery on him. He heals as quickly as injured, almost instantly depending on the severity, and surgery is usually performed with objects stuck inside him that his body can't easily or quickly absorb. He has hyper senses when he talks about the two best trackers. He is referring to him and Altus Stebbins. Nicodemus and Bart are good hunters, shitty trackers. They take offence to someone rubbing a smelly cloth in their faces and then ask them to fetch the human.

He keeps falling off his horse because he has to use his anti-grav units as a buffer from breaking the horse's back. It also doesn't help that he doesn't know how to ride a horse and has problems learning how to ride. If he were to ride in a carriage or wagon, hovering half a centimetre above his seat would be noticeable. He has broken many chairs in Winterfell when he's not wearing his Combat Unit with its anti-grav units floating him a half-centimetre above the seat.

On Terra Del Sol, he was a latent telepath. When he arrived in the North, for an unknown reason, his telepathic gift started to wake. He often has conversations with people, domesticated animals, Dire Wolves that make him seem insane or without words.

Because of the process, Jacob couldn't lie or deceive people. It reinforced the Native American parts of him inherited from their ancestors to never lie, deceive or be disrespectful of any Materiach's. Forcing him to think about what to say when talking to people or answering questions, which got tiresome. Part of the legend he is creating is that he is a nonsensical fool; even though he can't lie or deceive people; he can avoid answering questions that he doesn't want to by misdirecting the people he is talking with long-winded streams of nonsense related to the question, not necessarily the answer that person was expecting. Although most people don't know the reference to "You lost me at," Grand Maestre Hawkings was the first person who started using it, and it took with others. Grand Maestre Hawkings found the line in an ancient text where a man gives a woman a long-winded speech, and her reply starts with "You lost me at" then slams the door on his face.

Jacob and the men who came before him are the last of royal blood. Every King, Queen, noble, highborn had been executed when their kingdom fell. Or hunted down into extinction. They were kept alive as a living reminder of the past, by law, they had to keep their titles. The most significant one-day celebration that his entire world collectively celebrates is the celebration of the day the last kingdom and its king fell. The one day of the year where he was legally required by law to stand on a stage and let people throw rotten food and bodily waste at him. Only two republics had repealed that law, the Republic of Virginia and the Commonwealth of the Thirteen Colonies. If he could immigrate to them, he could legally renounce his titles.

The defining republic which set the standard wasn't the thirteen colonies; it was the Free Republic of Africa. In 1776 the same point in time as the American revolution. Their Shaka Zulu rose from being a slave to uniting and freeing Africa of slavery. It was the opening sentence that changed their world

All men and women, regardless of colour, of people, of peaceful religion and of position in life, are equal under the laws of man.

There is more to Jacob's Terra Del Sol, too much to put here. More will be revealed when I post my work GenSol including the real reason why Jacob and the special force unit were armed with early 21st century weapons.

I am going to start explaining this simply; it was based on the Television series Game of Thrones; As Ivan states;

"It was similar to the one in the images, not that exact one."

The portal device was created as a means for an advanced extraterrestrial species who have been stranded on Jacob's Terra Del Sol to find out the state of their homeworld.

It opens a door at a set of coordinates on Terra Del Sol; the door exits to a set of coordinates anywhere in the universe.

The Purists had him open their side of the door in areas large enough to move men and equipment through. Simply put, the door can be opened anywhere with the proper coordinates to another set of coordinates

You can't use it to time travel; the time on the other side of the door is always in sync with your time. The time-space continuum is a nasty bitch.

An unexpected feature of the portal device is that it can scan alternate realities and open the door linking their reality to the alternate reality you are looking for. Which is forbidden, and adequately built portal generators have safeties and protocols that prevent that from happening. The more images depicting the target reality, the less work is needed to find that exact reality. With the reactor being unstable, Ivan didn't have time to use all the reference images from the videos of the version of Game of Thrones from Jacob's world. There are differences between ours and Jacob's versions. He used the first five minutes of imagery, and when he got a 97% match to Jacob's world's version of Game of Thrones, he opened one side of the door in the portal room, the other side one-thousand meters above a clearing in a Boreal forest.

Ivan could have sent Jacob anywhere in the Galaxy that he had the coordinates to; unfortunately, the coordinates to any world where Jacob could live were occupied by the reptilian species that hunted Ivan's people into near extinction. Technology advanced enough to find the portal's point of origin, making Terra a target. It would take them less than a year to travel to Terra with a battle, occupation and colonization fleet.

Terra Del Sol in it's present state is the perfect new colony world the radiation and environment damage would increase the speed of their terraforming equipment to make another perfect world to colonize. No one human or GenSols would survive being irradicated regardless of where they were hiding in the solar system.

The world of Westeros in the Sky Knight stories;

Significant differences in this Westeros are:

Three highly advanced civilizations with technology two hundred to five hundred years more advanced than ours have risen and fallen. The last highly advanced civilization that fell was Valeria, and they were five hundred years more advanced than ours, and I will explain more about them in another chapter.

People from other planets and realities (mostly Terran/Earth-type) have visited this world. None stayed that we know of; along with what they left behind, the remnants of three highly advanced fallen civilizations, there is a great deal of dangerous tech waiting from someone to find it.

I don't know how many moons this world is supposed to have, and I can't remember any images in the Television show. I gave them three moons, and the closest has burnt-out dead cities on it. The Character Daisy was born in a research colony on the second moon.

Magic and science co-exist, even when science denies the existence of magic.

Ned and King Robert have seen what weapons of mass destruction can do; the first war they fought together. Their enemies carelessly used chlorine gas. Instead of the gas killing them, the wind carried it in a different direction, killing hundreds of innocent men, women, children and the enemy's soldiers. It was deployed by their enemy three times, each time killing hundreds of innocent people and none of their troops. They witnessed the destructive chaos from boxes of arrows, repeating crossbows that fired two bolts then broke, bombs launched from catapults that sometimes exploded when they hit something. Not always, simple mortars and the widespread use of Trebuchet. The significant differences in the last war with the first; the poison gas was replaced with wildfire bombs, the boxes of arrows got quicker to reload, repeating crossbows still didn't work, most were worse. One bolt then breaks and is less accurate.

When Ned saw Jacobs's weapons, he instantly knew that they were dangerous weapons and had to be destroyed. One of the repeating crossbows Ned had seen years ago looked similar to Jacobs rifle with a pistol grip, the bolt was fired through a barrel to make it more accurate, and instead of a bow, the bowstring was attached to the barrel. It was a complete failure; the bolt didn't have enough force to penetrate anything; it jammed after the first bolt. The only thing that worked was that the bolt hit precisely where you wanted it to with the same accuracy of a regular light crossbow, except with bolts harmlessly bouncing off the target, not the pointy end stuck in the target.

People have a more rational and practical mentality on average when making war. Rationally "The last war my house got burnt to the ground" Practically, "I'm not building another house cause someone wasn't thinking rationally, started another war and burnt my first house down."

Some of the names of people and places are misspelt, some intentional, others accidentally.

Writing for me has to be a flow of highs and lows, humour and drama; more than just a beginning, middle and end.

The next chapter will be about Sky Knight - Ater the fall of the Iron Throne.

Let me know what you like or don't like, feedback is important.

It would be nice if the chapters are read in sequence.
