September 9, 1998- Harry Potter
Harry Potter walked through the halls of Crestview. The principal was walking him to the lunchroom. He still couldn't believe he was stuck at Muggle school again. His entire time at Hogwarts, he wished to never have to come back to one of these ever again. And he was here of his own free will? It was positively absurd. He thought back to how he ended up here in the first place
It had been his 31st day of Auror training. He had arrived at the office early. He had morning training with Coach Higgins, Harry's least favorite of the Aurors trainers. After their morning running and warm ups, they were brought to the obstacle course
"All right everyone, today you will be completing the Aurors obstacle course. The course is broken down into two parts. The physical section and the practical section. The first section will consist of standard physical strength tests. The second will be a mock field mission. You will be facing attacks from multiple angles. Your goal will be to make it to the other side without being hit. If you are hit, a buzzer will go off. Alright, Potter, you first"
"Great." Harry muttered. He stepped forward. Higgins blew the whistle. Harry darted forward. He jumped from one block to the other. He cleared the first obstacle with relative ease. He jumped and gripped the swinging ring and propelled himself forward. He caught the other ring and then landed on the platform. The next obstacle was climbing a mock cliff. Harry forced himself up and over the ridge. He jumped down. He stopped for a moment, trying to catch his breath. Sweat dripped down his face and onto his glasses.
"Pick up the pace Potter. You don't get breaks in the field" Higgins yelled. Harry groaned. He jumped up onto the swinging platform. He caught his balance and jumped to the next one and the next. He made it to the final obstacle, the bars. He reached for the first one and then the next and the next. He dropped down onto the last platform
"The practical section will start now," Higgins yelled. Harry took a deep breath and ran. He blocked a curse from the side. He stopped for a moment when a blasting curse was flying at him. He put up his shield. From the corner of his eye, he saw a masked figure raise it's arm. Harry sent a disarming curse back. He was almost at the finish line. He blasted another figure out of the way. He saw the last challenge, a large serpent. Shit. Harry magicked a physical shield and shoved his wand in his pocket. He let the serpent bite onto the shield and threw it to the side. Beep Harry looked for what hit him.
"Get down Potter" Higgins yelled
"What hit me?" Harry asked
"Nothing"
"Then why did you stop the course?"
"You used a physical obstacle instead of magic" Harry sighed
"Well it worked didn't it?" Harry said
"Get down Potter, I won't ask you again" Harry jumped down and yanked one of the water bottles from the holder. His face was red from anger. He sat on the bench next to Ron and Neville
"That was total bullshit" Harry said
"It's just Higgins Harry, even Robards would have allowed that" Ron said
"I was this close" Harry looked up at the next trainee. Alexander Skye. He ran through the physical course and then got to the practical course. Beep. He was hit by a curse from behind but Coach Higgins didn't stop the course. Skye hit the buzzer.
"How is that fair?" Harry asked, gesturing to Skye
"Come on Harry, you know that Higgins in one of the trainers who think we, well, especially you only got in cause of the war" Neville said
"One of them?" Harry asked "it's not fair, I defeat, with a lot of help mind you, the darkest wizard of the last 50 year at 17 and I'm still treated like I'm incompetent." Harry complained. Skye jumped down and made his way over to Harry, Ron and Neville's bench
"Hey Potter" he had a grin plastered all over his face "Can you believe it, I just beat an obstacle course that the hero of the wizarding world couldn't even do" Harry stood up. Neville pulled him back down.
"You only beat it because Higgins graded you easier" Harry growled
"Sure Potter, whatever helps you sleep at night" he said walking away and high-fiving his friends
"Don't let him get to you, Harry," Neville advised. They were dismissed to shower before lunch. Harry met Ron and Neville in the cafeteria. He sat down to eat with them. He heard someone walk up behind him
"If it's Skye, I'm not even turning around" Harry said
"It's not, it's Auror Grey," Ron said. Harry turned around to face her. She was one of the Senior Aurors. She worked directly with Robards. She almost never came to the training Academy.
"Uh, hi Auror Grey" he said
"Robards wants to speak to you immediately," She said. Harry stood up and followed her as the other trainees starred as they walked past. They walked past Skye and his cronies table. They snickered. The top of Harry's ears turned red.
"So I heard about you and Skye at Hig's course today" She said. He looked at her curiously, "Word travels. What I don't understand why you care so much"
"He's an ass"
"So? You're the hero, not him" she said
"You wouldn't understand"
"Well, the other day in the break room, Higs was complaining about the fact that I got promoted to a senior Auror. Says it's only cause I was in the order" Harry stopped
"Wait, you were in the order?" He asked
"Oh yeah, from the summer of '95 all the way through"
"I never knew that"
"That's cause I don't give a shit about it" they arrived at Robards office. Grey opened the door and Harry stepped inside the office. Robards, the Head Auror, was sitting behind his desk.
"Take a seat Trainee Potter" Robards said. Harry sat down. "I'll assume you want to know why I called you in?" Harry nodded "I'm going to keep this short. I need someone young to go undercover at Crestview School. We have reason to suspect that Theodore Nott Sr. is working there under a pseudonym. I'm sending you undercover at the school. Any time you miss from your training will be included in your training so you will still be graduating on time."
"But sir, why me?" Harry asked
"You have a working understanding of muggle society and I doubt taking down a single death eater alone will be much of a challenge for you. The mission will be gathering information for the Aurors, however, if something goes wrong, I need someone who can handle Nott alone. What do you think, Trainee Potter?" Robards said. Harry thought back to the morning's encounter. This was his chance to prove himself to Higgins and the other trainers. He made his decision
"I'll do it"
That was how Harry Potter found himself in Crestview School, in their school's uniform, pretending to be 17 again. The principal continued to babble about the school. Robards cover story worked well. As far as the school was concerned, he was the son of a wealthy businessman who was interested in finding the best school for his son. He had previously attended Highland College but was ready for a change. Because of his fake-father's perceived wealth, the school was treating him especially well. The principal had personally given him a tour of the school. Now they were to stop at the school cafeteria. Robards and Grey had advised that he made friends to help gather as much information as he could about Nott. The Cafeteria was full when he stepped inside. Everyone was staring at him. He looked around the room. One face stood out. Her glare could slice through the air. It took him a second to place her
