"This isn't romance. This isn't a declaration of love or affirmation of friendship. This is something more." Melina Marchetta

In the owner's enclosure. There was a time when Adele didn't care about the leader of the Peaky Blinders. To tell the truth, she was the first to want him dead. No matter how much Seamus tried to make her see the good side of Thomas Shelby. Besides, Adele had made the mistake of seeing him as anything other than another one of those thugs. She had managed to pass the walls of the leader of the famous Small Heath gang.

It was her first mistake.

In the owner's enclosure. Her second mistake was to let her guard down in turn. The fact is, she had never really known love had made her arrogant. She thought she was above it all. That it was for other women. And then he had finally made her see how similar they were.

In the owner's enclosure. God, Adele loved this man. She loved him so much that she finally decided to screw it up. Her convictions ? To hell with convictions! The company ? Fuck the company!

Now Adele knew what she needed to function. It wasn't even a question of love anymore, but a question of survival. Thomas was her life jacket. And she would be damned if she let him screw it all up before she even had time to drop that fucking revelation on his shoulders. She was planning on screwing up his plans. Especially if it could keep him alive.

In the owner's enclosure. Adele grabbed part of her dress to run faster among the hordes of audiences waiting for the races to begin. She ignored most of the whispers and disdainful looks cast in her path as she quickened her pace. She frantically searched for the man in the recognizable cap. It was his trademark after all.

She even ignored the emerging pain along the soles of her feet. Obviously, heels were a terrible choice of dress today. Unfortunately she hadn't necessarily planned on a manhunt when she woke up this morning.

She paused in spite of herself to catch her breath before spinning helplessly. She gasped, out of breath before tucking an awkward piece of black hair behind her ear. She was willing to bet that her looks were horrifying for women of good family. However, she couldn't care less. To be honest, Adele was on the verge of finishing her race barefoot.

The idea quickly left her mind, however. It had only taken a glimpse of the one and only person in her mind to erase all the others.

A sigh of relief left her lips as she observed Thomas from afar. The latter seemed focused on a point further in front of him. He seemed barely aware of the world around him. That was what alerted Adele. He was up to something.

Unfortunately for him, Adele had chosen this day to be whatever she wanted.

So it wasn't long before she straightened her shoulders as she struggled to tidy up her dilapidated outfit. She combed her hair using her fingers in self-awareness before finally setting out again in a race to join him.

The closer she got, the more she could make out the object of Thomas' attention. At the sight of the man in the military uniform, Adele's heart sank more. Now she really had a bad feeling. No matter what he was up to, it was wrong.

She quickly looked away from the soldier as she climbed the few steps separating her from Thomas before quickly catching herself on his arm, surprising him in the process.

"Thomas!" Adele gasped before swallowing as he turned to her, flabbergasted."It doesn't matter what you plan to do… don't do it."

Thomas frowned, puzzled."Adele, what the hell are you doing here?"

"What does it look like?" Adele said, frustrated."I'm here to prevent you from getting killed! Because that's what you're gonna do, eh?"

Thomas amplified his frown as he glanced up the queue again before returning his gaze to Adele, impatient."Adele. This is not a good time."

"Like hell isn't." Adele snapped in exasperation before forcing him to follow her as she grabbed him by the arm to pull him with her.

Surprisingly, Thomas made no move to stop her. Instead, he let himself be pulled to the end of the stairs before quickly regaining control of the situation. He freed himself from Adele's hand just to slip his other hand into hers to pull her with him to a somewhat quieter place.

"Let's go this way." Thomas said quickly, removing his cigarette from his lips before narrowly avoiding a couple."Excuse us."

He looked around in agitation before stopping dead, forcing Adele to do the same with an annoyed pout. She still didn't like being treated like that as far as he could see.

"What's wrong with you, eh? Since when have you been trying to save me?"He asked immediately, impassive. Almost like he wasn't talking about his death.

Adele pursed her lips clearly in the grip of herself to admit the truth out loud. In front of Tommy, moreover. She shook her head before speaking through clenched teeth as she returned her animated gaze to Thomas."That was bullshit, okay? I lied, alright. I'm a fucking liar!"

Thomas was speechless as he observed the restless brunette. She was totally inconsistent at this precise moment. He didn't understand a word of what she was saying. He had always known she was a piece of work but it was way beyond what he had imagined. There was only Adele to delay his plans like she was doing today.

It was no surprise this kind of pause in Thomas's presence. Adele was used to it. That said, she couldn't take any more as he cleared his throat.

"What do you mean? What lies?"

Adele hesitated for a short while before finally sealing her future."I'm not going to get married. I never really intended to get married. Well, with no one but ..."

"But ?" Thomas insisted, raising his eyebrows before looking up at the stairs in a second thought. He licked his lips in agitation before returning his eyes to Adele."So there was never a fucking Lord?"

Adele grimaced, at fault."Well, no. There is indeed a Lord. But that's in the past. And the main thing to remember is that I don't plan to get married."

"So what, Adele, eh?" Thomas resumed, numb as he spoke with his hands in an effort to appear detached despite the hurricane crossing his mind at the time."You come here, tell me you lied and what? What were you thinking? Huh ? What did you think was going to happen?"

Adele clenched her jaw, already knowing that was another Thomas mechanism. He only knew how to do that. He was unable to deal with the unexpected in any other way. Especially this kind of unforeseen event. It was his first instinct. Destroy what little illusion of happiness is available to him. She knew because it was what she usually did. But not this time. This time, she intended to make her own choices. Even if it led her straight to the tunnel of death. She was ready to accept the price. If that meant she could save Thomas from himself and his consuming ambition.

However, she didn't intend to make it easy for him. She was not yet ready to give him everything unconditionally. She still had free will and a conscience. She shoved him back."You're a selfish fucking asshole you know that? Don't act like it doesn't bother you. Maybe you can act emotionless around other people but not around me Tommy."

Surnames were serious business. Names were dangerous business, especially in the mouths of someone like Adele Fitzpatrick, and it was suddenly very risky for Thomas to continue down this path. However, he couldn't forget the most important thing. Even if he would like to do otherwise.

"Adele, I seriously have things to do." Thomas whispered as he grabbed Adele to close the small gap between them in personal torment.

"Stop fucking with me, Tom!" Adele snapped back."I know you have things to do. But it's also important what I'm telling you. Listen… "Adele swallowed hard as she realized what she was about to say."You were right, alright! I still… I… I lov-I need you. Okay?"

Thomas clenched his jaw clearly overwhelmed by her statement now before trying to make her understand the situation. Adele could tell he was having a hard time pushing her away.

"Adele, I have things to do. When they are... "He seemed to have trouble breathing as he looked up the stairs again in a waste of time before returning his anxious eyes to Adele."When they are done, I will decide."

Adele shook her head in panic."What do you have to do, Tommy? I saw Arthur. He told me you were going to be the bait."

"Fucking Arthur." Thomas growled, running his hand down his face before catching his breath as he turned to Adele."Just do as I tell you, eh? Wait for me, yeah ? I'll decide after the race."

Adele immediately frowned, insulted before she snapped."The hell do you think I am? I'm not one of your fucking minions! Be fucking honest with me! What do you plan to do?"

Thomas widened his eyes as he caught sight of his moving target before shaking his head sharply as he returned his restless eyes to Adele."Just fucking trust me, Adele! When the race is over, I will decide what to do. What to fucking do, all right?"

"Do you think I'm fucking stupid?" Adele gasped as she searched the icy blue eyes of Thomas for the truth."You could very well be dead after the race as far as I know! You ..."

Adele paused to catch her breath before leaning on Thomas, resting her palms flat against his chest. She could almost feel his heart beating at an erratic rate through his suit jacket.

"Just… trust me."

"You are one of the few people I trust." He growled in frustration before taking her wrists in his hands to stroke the skin revealed by the sleeves of her dress."That's exactly why I have to do all these fucking things, Adele."

Adele eyed the stubborn man in front of her thoughtfully before taking a weak step back in defeat."So that doesn't make any difference in the end. You still plan to go up there and do whatever you want."She scoffed bitterly."Who am I kidding? It's just my mistake. I already knew that and yet I came here."

She shook her head in an attempt to control the emotions rushing through her mind. She could almost smell the salty taste on her tongue like swallowed. She couldn't stay here. She would be damned even before she let herself cry in front of this selfish bastard. After all, she didn't have to do that kind of torture on him. It was only her mistake.

However, she hadn't even had time to pull away when Thomas hastened to hold her by the arm. Adele stumbled slightly in emotion and surprise before her eyes widened as she nearly collided with Thomas.

The latter took in her bewildered expression before fixing his gaze on her wet eyes for a moment. He took a moment to understand his own thoughts before licking his lower lip."You're really sincere this time."

"Are you fucking serious?"

"Adele, don't do that." Thomas warned, clenching his jaw as he gave the Marshal one last look before returning his alert eyes to Adele."I forbid you to do that, eh? You're gonna wait for me, aye? I'm fucking serious, Adele, wait for me!"

Adele looked up to decipher his piercing gaze containing emotions for once. She knew exactly what he was trying to tell her. She just wasn't selfless enough to let him go so easily.

She could feel his rapid breath mingling with hers as they staggered towards each other like magnets. She could feel her heart pounding along her chest as she already anticipated his touch.

And yet it was not long before Thomas broke the growing tension between them as he took a step towards the stairs before pausing."I forbid you to leave."

In Thomas and Adele's lingo, that was the closest thing to a I love you for them. Adele knew it and he knew it.

Nevertheless, she decided to take the plunge for them. Just to show her good faith. Even though it took every ounce of courage in her to do so. She already knew what he was planning to do in the next few hours. For all she knew, this might be the last time she saw him. And though it was horrifying, Adele knew she would forever blame herself if she didn't say out loud what she really felt about him.

"Thomas." She called, nervous before taking a deep breath as he stopped to look at her."I… I love you."

Thomas froze for a moment, clearly flustered before swallowing, nodding his head."That is a thing."

As she watched him walk away, Adele released a breath she couldn't even remember having held before.

She staggered slightly on her heels as she fully realized the impact of her confession. She couldn't take it back. Worse yet, she was going to have to come to terms with her words now. She doubted Thomas would let her slip away this time. He had her in the palm of his hand and he was planning on pulling the strings now. It was that easy.

Honestly, Adele wasn't so sure at this point any more. She definitely didn't like being in such a position. Discovered.

After all these years behind a wall, Adele had completely bared herself in front of Thomas. Figuratively and literally, it was the case to say so.

Adele winced at her thought process before remembering where she was.

Thomas said he planned to find her after the race. For the first time in her life, Adele was going to have to trust him completely.

She took a deep breath as she adjusted her dress around her waist before tightening the edges of her coat against her in an attempt to fight the chill down her back. She lowered her head as she pushed her way through the aristocracy again before finally glimpsing the racetracks.

Unfortunately, it wasn't long before she came to a halt at the sight of a familiar face blocking her path. She stiffened instinctively as she made eye contact with that pair of icy eyes so similar and at the same time so distant from Thomas's.

"Did you understand your mistake?" Was his one and only question.

Adele let a trembling breath pass her lips as she considered an answer before finally licking her trembling lips."I'm not going to apologize for how I'm feeling."

"I was wrong about you." Gerald coldly declared.

Adele swallowed as she couldn't really deny the fact that his words were having some impact on her. No matter how much she wanted to ignore it, part of her was thinking the exact same thing. She knew how risky it was to give yourself to Thomas. People are at risk of getting hurt or worse. Hell, she could leave her skin there too. It was the price to pay for living alongside Thomas Shelby.

And yet, Adele had finally decided that she didn't care about any of this. She had given up on life a long time ago. She just wanted to live this reprieve with someone who could understand her. For her, there was no one other than Thomas to fill this role.

Adele stared at a point over her grandfather's shoulder in an attempt to control the assailant's emotions before returning her eyes to the white-haired man with her head tilted."Well, you know what they said : sometimes we create our own heartbreaks through expectations."

"You seem so sure of yourself. And yet you still ignore so many things."

Adele frowned, suspicious this time. "What? What do you mean?"

"You were so blinded by your lousy little girlish issues that you didn't even understand what was right in front of your eyes."

A bad feeling soon resurfaced behind Adele's mind. She had always been an intuitive person. And she knew very well that Gerald made the pleasure last as far as he was concerned. He was about to drop a bomb.

Besides, the sight of his smirk under his mustache soon alerted Adele even more. He leaned down to be at her height before looking her straight in the eye as he continued."You never wondered why I didn't intervene in your brother's arrest?"

Adele took a step back, completely taken aback before shaking her head, speechless in confusion."What… what does that mean?"

"Don't act like you didn't see it coming. You knew who arrested him."

Adele's eyes widened as she returned her attention to her grandfather."Campbell."

"Exactly. Are you starting to understand?"

Adele opened and closed her mouth over and over again in a loss of speech before giving a dumbfounded look at the man she thought she knew."From the start you were in cahoots with him."

"I knew I had to step in the moment you stepped back into that hellhole."Gerald snapped contemptuously."These Jews just helped me with the plan."

Adele clenched her jaw and fists by her side in the realization before giving a look of pure hatred at the man in front of her."Do you even have any idea what that motherfucker was doing to Polly Shelby ? This rot-"

"It's only your fault."He interrupted, scathingly."You're the one who forced me to associate with that poor copper excuse! I am ready for anything if it means that this Shelby disappears from our lives!"

Adele gasped in shock before frantically shaking her head in indignation."For god's sake, Gerald, that motherfucker is even worse than Thomas or Arthur. He's… you're just a fucking pawn on his chess board!"

"Oh, Adele. Who do you take me for?" He chuckled, bittersweet."Do you think I don't already know all of this? Don't be a fool, child. I'm the only one who uses him as one of my pawns."

Adele was literally speechless as she searched her grandfather for clues that there was still the man she thought she knew. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing but perfidy and hatred in his gaze. His dislike and contempt for the Shelbys had transformed him.

Adele wanted to reason with him. She was convinced that this was just another ploy to make sure she stayed by his side. After all, he had already lost a daughter to a man. Maybe he was insecure. Honestly, Adele was ready to believe anything if that could explain his behavior.

However, she knew that any apology in the world couldn't excuse his actions this time.

After all that Campbell's bastard had done to her, Adele couldn't forgive her grandfather for partnering with him. Worse still, if something ever happened to Thomas ...

God, Thomas!

Adele suddenly looked up, horrified at her grandfather."What did you do?"

However, she didn't wait for his answer as she instantly glanced over her shoulder in understanding before finally spun sharply on her heels to set off on a frantic run.

She tried to pick up her pace as she retraced her steps in horror. It was all part of Gerald's sordid plan. He had allied himself with the worst species to get rid of Thomas. And that could only mean one thing.

By this point, Adele had completely disregarded propriety as she rushed through the bourgeois groups at full speed. She even nudged her path because she was so desperate to reach her destination before the unforgivable could happen.

There was a time when Adele liked to think about what life would be like without Thomas Shelby. There was even a time when her mind particularly liked the idea.

However, it was totally different now.

Just at the thought, she could already feel all her limbs, her breath and even her heart malfunction. She could feel the tears about to stream behind her eyes as she tried to pick up her pace. She had even lost her heels on the way. And yet, she could barely care about it right now. All she could think of was how devastated she would be if she ever lost Tommy.

Until now, it was all just a game for her. She definitely didn't realize the tenor of her feelings. It wasn't all about survival or even a challenge against the devil.

Adele had really and madly fallen in love with a gangster.

The comments coming straight from the PAs rang like alarm bells in Adele's ears.

And then suddenly the sound stopped.

One moment she was running, and the next one, she hit a hard body, head-on. She gasped in shock before slamming her weight into the muddy ground. Heaps of gasps and whispers were heard around her. However, Adele ignored them as she brought her hands full of mud in front of her face. She winced at the throbbing sensation along her left wrist before swallowing as she remembered the situation.

She ignored the cries of protest from her muscles and bones as she suddenly straightened up before lowering her head in spite of herself as she could hear the laughter and teasing towards her.

However, it wasn't long before she felt the situation engulf her again, as it wasn't long before she finally saw the man she was looking for.

Unfortunately, that only increased her panic as she soon saw Thomas rushing down the stairs. She only had to look at him to know something was wrong.

Reacting quickly, Adele set off again in a frantic race.

"Thomas!" She cried through her quick breaths before pushing more on her thighs to pick up the pace.

She could feel the dirt, rocks and soils getting stuck between her toes. And yet she ignored it all. She had only one thought on her mind-what if Thomas died today?

The wind tangled her loosened hair in front of her eyes, which didn't help.

The bodies pressed against each other offered no gaps for her to squeeze through. She pushed her way, spreading the hands that were pushing her away. Furious cheers reached her ears, interspersed with devious blows, but no one was strong enough to distract her from her goal.

Finally, Adele saw a gap among the crowd. She hurried to throw herself among the bodies to make her way to the marquee Thomas had just entered. She ignored the thin trickle of sweat that now adorned her forehead and neck as she continued to run without even bothering to think.

She passed a young couple looking literally the opposite of her and Thomas. They seemed happy, therefore carefree. And Adele couldn't help but feel a deep sense of bitterness running down her chest.

Why did it all have to be a challenge in their life? Why were they so fucking devastated with life? So much so that they much preferred to face death rather than the prospect of happiness.

Adele didn't waste a single moment as she rushed into the opening of the marquee just to come to an abrupt halt at the sight of a cop lying cold on the ground. She wobbled slightly on her feet as she pulled the strands of hair clinging to her sweaty forehead before panting, bringing her hand to throat at the feel of fire along her vocal cords.

However, it wasn't long before she looked up sharply at the familiar panting overheard calling for Thomas.

Adele widened her eyes before quickly stepping over the cop to the other side of the latrine.

However, she was certainly not ready to find out what was hiding behind the walls.

There was Thomas fighting the Marshall from earlier as Lizzie tried to aim at them with shaking hands. Adele barely caught her breath at the horrifying sight before focusing all her attention on the poor, poor looking brunette. It was enough to look at her attire to easily understand the situation.

However, Adele didn't really have time to really think about the situation as she rushed at Lizzie without thinking."Stark, give me the gun!"

Lizzie jumped at the sudden intrusion before pointing the gun directly at Adele in shock."You?"

Unfortunately, Adele didn't even have time to respond as a sudden gunshot echoed through space. The brunette immediately put her hands on her head before leaning on the ground in a reflex.

Nonetheless, it was not long before she realized her mistake as her position brought her face to face with the inert body of the Marshall, slathered with his own blood.

"Lizzie!"

"Where were you !?" Lizzie sobbed as she immediately turned the gun on Thomas, confused."Where the fuck were you?"

Adele closed her eyes as she took a deep breath as she remembered the battlefields before finally slowly getting up again from the gunshot. She turned to Lizzie just to see her collapse into Thomas's arms.

"Lizzie." Thomas hissed as he tried to calm her down."I'm sorry."

However, Lizzie pushed him back violently with all her might."Fuck off. Fuck off!"

"Just go." Thomas finally ordered, breathless as he pointed to the exit before raising his tone, exasperated."Go on. Go!"

During this time, Adele's past soon resurfaced as the shock caused her to react in unexplained ways. One moment she was watching the duo fight and the next the doctor inside rushed at the already deceased Marshall.

Regardless, Adele brought her index and middle fingers to the man's neck to take his pulse.

"Oh my God !" She gasped, bringing her trembling, bloody hand to her lips in shock.

Thomas immediately rushed on the brunette to pull her away from the body despite her protests."Adele, the fuck you're doing? Adele!"

"He's dead! He's fucking dead!"She exclaimed as she continued to stare at the Marshall, unable to look away.

"Hey, look at me." Thomas ordered at the sight of the brunette's reaction before forcing her to look at him. He took her chin between his fingers, forcing her to take her eyes off the body."Adele, fucking look at me!"

Adele literally remained mesmerized by Thomas' stormy eyes as she continued to shake in his hands."He's dead ..."

"I know. I know." Thomas nodded quickly, agitated before taking her face in his callused hands."Adele, look at me. Here, just look at me." He held her gaze for a moment before swallowing, stepping back."Fuck, Adele, what are you doing here?"

"I had to warn you. I… it's Gerald… he's-"

"Working with Campbell. I know." Thomas nodded, leaving Adele speechless."I know, Adele."

Adele was literally speechless as she searched for Thomas's eyes before attempting to look in the direction of the dead man again. However, Thomas didn't let her do as he forced her to look at him again.

"Hey, look at me. Adele, just look at me." He insisted, worried before licking his lips to catch his breath."Listen to me, we have to get out of here. You have to get out of here. Take the same exit Lizzie just took."

Adele shook her head fiercely in objection."No way. I won't leave you Tom."

Thomas watched Adele's resolute face for a moment before letting out a scoff as he removed his hands from her face. He took a step back, shaking his head before rubbing his hand against his jaw in frustration. He gave a sidelong glance at the prostrate brunette before finally retrieving his weapon by raising his arm towards the roof of the marquee.

Adele widened her eyes before jumping in spite of herself as he fired three shots into the void before abruptly turning to her again."Go. Fucking go, Adele!"

"Not without you !" Adele insisted, determined.

Thomas paused in disbelief before giving one last determined look at the stubborn brunette."Fuck it, Adele."

He rushed at the brunette in a hurry, letting Adele lift her head, intending to stand up to him. However, he did quite otherwise as he abruptly caught her wrist in his hand before pulling her with him. He paused to retrieve his Peaky cap from the floor before using his free hand to untie the tie around his neck. He used it to wipe the blood from his wound in his temple before quickly heading for the exit.

"Thomas, where are we going? What's happening ?" Asked Adele, still in shock.

"Shut up !" He barked in frustration before pausing at the sight of the cop inspecting the cop already on the ground."Officers, officers. I was having a good time with my wife, and we heard voices, Irish voices, and we heard a shot. I swear to God, there's a soldier lying dead in there. Look at her, she's terrified."

Adele didn't even have to pretend as Thomas nodded at her. Honestly, she was way too preoccupied trying to figure out what was going on to even care about her reputation right now. She didn't care what those cops thought of her and Thomas.

She was way too panicked about getting caught.

Adele silently nodded as Thomas led the way before grabbing her wrist again to take her with him.

Although she was totally overwhelmed by events, Adele allowed herself to be blindly carried away by Thomas. She kept her head down, however, as they stepped out of the marquee to mingle with the crowd again.

"Here, this way!" Thomas hastened as he spotted an alley between two tents before abruptly stopping to face Adele.

The brunette was so angry she almost almost crashed into him if it wasn't for Thomas's quick reflexes. The latter quickly caught her by the shoulders before leaning in to make eye contact."Hey, Adele, look at me, eh?"

Adele looked up to make eye contact before shaking her head in a second thought. She let a short breath pass her lips before pulling away from Thomas. The latter let her do it at the sight of her shocked expression turning into a familiar face of anger.

"Adele…"

"You will never change."She noted, shaking her head, defeat."Kill, kill, kill. That's all you Peaky Blinders can do."

"So you've changed your mind yet? Not an hour ago, you were ready to take it all."He reminded her, his voice softening as the words fell out of his mouth.

Adele clenched her jaw, she couldn't believe he dared say such a thing after what had just happened. Part of her thought about saying yes, just to be cruel, but she was holding back. Adele wasn't the type to back down when it came to the leader of the Peaky Blinders.

So she straightened her shoulders while maintaining direct eye contact before getting ready to speak with all the seriousness she could convey.

Unfortunately, Thomas had a sudden change in mood as he suddenly tensed. He grabbed the pocket watch dangling from his jacket pocket with a slight crease between his eyebrows.

Realizing that she had already lost his attention, Adele slumped her shoulders in defeat.

Thomas immediately lifted his head, about to announce his departure, contrite. However, it was not long before he restrained himself at the sight of Adele's closed expression. Obviously. She was probably the only one who could read through his emotions.

"Adele-"

"Go." She interrupted him flatly,"I don't want to hold you back."

Thomas clenched his jaw, frustrated as he scratched his cheek with his thumb before letting out a sigh while lowering his head. He closed his eyes, pressing his palms against his eyelids before suddenly sitting up, taking a deep breath.

"I would do things differently if I could. Truly. But that's not who I am."

Adele frowned before refuting his words."I've always known what kind of person you are, Thomas."

Suddenly, a horde of policemen passed the alley they were in.

Adele straightened up, alert before swallowing as she turned to Thomas, resigned."It'll be alright. Do what you have to do. You go on your side and I go on mine. I still have to go see the results of the race. I have a racehorse myself after all."

This time, when Thomas looked at Adele, he felt like he was about to lose a part of himself. She had never been very optimistic about him, but she had always been concerned enough to show him that she cared enough to give him her point of view. Even if she insulted him or threatened to kill him.

Now he felt the weight of the past few months catching up with him. He barely seemed alive as he rested his dark circles on Adele.

At that precise moment, Adele felt as if she was seeing the man she had met alongside her late best friend again. The one capable of loving and smiling. The one who had gone to France and never returned.

Adele was still doubting her choices as much. Did she really want to give it all up for a life of permanent uncertainty and worry? She wasn't so sure anymore.

However, Thomas's face and the emotions in the depths of his gaze were enough to remind her of what had initially troubled her about Thomas. It was that look. The one who had tipped her over to the other side of hate.

So, she resigned herself as she raised a shaking hand to rest it against his jaw. A simple gesture of pure affection. She felt Thomas lean against her palm. His skin was unbearably cold."You have to go." She offered, reluctantly.

"In a minute."

"Alright."
