Danny Phantom: What is This?
By: Hordak's Pupil
Chapter I: Plans
Danny
"Swinburne believed the world had grown weak under the influence of Christianity. He pined for the days of paganism when the world was filled with life," Lancer droned on as I tried to get comfortable. This was supposed to be a treat for Halloween but it was just boring.
It also didn't help that Technus had kept my up all night. "Stupid ghost," I muttered under my breath as I watched the clock slowly tick away. I could feel my eyes start to close and my mind drift off to other things. I wonder if I closed the ghost portal? Does my suit still fit me or will I...a loud crash woke my from my trance.
"Mr. Fenton, can you tell me why Swinburne believed Christianity had made the world 'weak?' I try to remember something he said but my mind was drawing a blank. I was about to say something when the bell rang and class was dismissed.
"Finally," I gathered my books and made for the door. Mr. Lancer looks at me concerned. "I am fine," he says I don't look fine. "I'm just swamped, Mr. Palmer had been running me ragged with chemistry. I'm even having nightmares about the periodic table." He tells me there is a thing as too much studying and suggests I get some rest.
"I'll give you an extra week to finish your report," he says as I thank him. "Just get some rest, I don't want you keeling over. Got it?"
"Yes sir," I race out the door to meet Tucker by his locker.
"So what is it this time, Saturday detention?" he asks as I tell that Lancer was actually sympathetic and gave me an extra week to finish the report. "I have just the thing to wake you up," he takes out a flier for the arcade. "They have the new Simu-Fighter in. It so real that it's like your getting hit in real life." As fun as that sounds I tell him I have plans tonight. "Aw come on man! This is the only time it's been outside Japan." Again I apologize and tell him my night is full.
Jack Skellington
"It's almost closing time Jack," the library demon said putting another stack of books in front of me. "I am sure Sally is worried sick about you." I look up from my studies and tell him that I informed her that I was going to be late.
The clock on the wall chimed the hour, "Would you mind closing up when you're done," he says but I pay no attention to him. I think I am close to making a discovery. One that could lead me to the truth.
Ages ago, our town was conquered by a cruel ghost king. He aimed to control both the worlds of the living and dead. My father, the Pumpkin Lord, raised an army of monsters and demons to fight him. He placed my older brother, Bael, in command of the army and marched out. Neither of them returned leaving me to rule the town alone.
"At last!" I gasp pouring over a small paragraph. "the Pumpkin Prince drew his sword, ready to fight the dread monarch and...," the passage ended there. "Damn these infernal books!" I shouted throwing it a the wall knocking the clock off. "Three O' clock?!" I gasped as I rushed out the door only to be ambushed by the mayor.
"Jack! You have to help me!" he moaned, "the most terrible thing has happened!" I try to calm him down and start from the beginning. "I was going to my reading room to relax. I went over to the book case and my favorite book of necromancy was missing. You don't think it means Pariah's coming back?!" I told to take some deep breaths. I explained just because his book is missing doesn't mean the ghost king has returned. "Are you sure Jack?! This could be a...,"
"Go home and rest up, your honor. You just need to rest up and try looking for your book again," he said that sounds right. "You need your energy to help with the plans for Halloween," he switched to his happy face and said that is right. He bolted towards his car and sped off towards his mansion.
Danny
"Maybe now I can finally get some rest," I said placing my hand on the front door only to be snatched into the building by dad. He tells me he invented the greatest ghost hunting tool since the Fenton Finder. He takes out a glowing green fork with a button on it.
"It's the ghost skewer! This baby not only captures ghosts but impales them," he says as Jazz walks down the stairs and glares at him. "Jazzy I was just showing Danny the..." she asks him what she said earlier. "But we're not at the restaurant. We're at...fine." He puts the fork away in his pocket and heads upstairs.
"I am so sorry Danny, I am trying my best to rein him in but...," I tell her it's fine and walk up to my room. "Don't worry mom and dad will act normal for...," I shut the door to my room.
"Maybe now I can relax for awhile," I lay down on the bed and take out my sketchpad. I am not sure what is about art but I always find it relaxes and...a chill went up my spine. "Great! Ghosts!" I face palm myself before transforming and flying out the window. "I can't even get a moment to...,"
The Box Ghost is holding a UPS truck hostage. "At last with these boxes I shall..," a quick ectoblast sends him flying. "Who dares to assault the Box Ghost?!" I phase into view. "You shall pay for your insolence ghost child." he causes a box levitate. "Now I shall crush you under the weight of this box belonging to...," he looks at the label and smiles. "Edward Lancer of 1313 East Zach Street!" He hurls a large box at me.
The heavy box hits me in the chest and sends me crashing into the bus stop. "Great," I said trying to get up. "Not only I am going to die but it's going be Mr. Lancer's fault." I phased my hand in the box and took out a large book. "Figures," I pull myself up. "Okay creep no more Mr. Nice Ghost," I said firing an ectoblast at him. "It's thermos time!" I take out the Fenton Thermos.
"No!" he says trying to escape but can't resist the force pulling in the device. "Maybe now I can get a three minute nap before tonight," I fly back towards the house hoping that I still had tome rest up.
Lock
"Were you able to get it?" Shock asked as I scurried into the room. "He didn't see you enter or leave?" I tell her that he was too busy panicking to notice. "That's not reassuring," she takes off her mask and reaches into my trick-or-treat bag and takes out a black leather book with a inverted pentagram on it.
She opens it up and flips through the pages for a moment before scowling. "What is this time? Did I get candy on...," she hits me over the head with the book. She says it's worthless. There is a mistake and the book is unusable. "What mistake?"
"This one!" she shoves the book in my face and points to sentence near the top. Mortuus et Vivas simul necessum incatatem it read. "The soul of one who is both living and dead is needed to complete the ritual." I ask her if it means vampire. "No spider-brains if it meant vampire it would have used the word Nospherous. Do you see that anywhere? No! Some lazy printer devil..." she checks the book again and gasps. I ask her what's wrong this time. "This is the original manuscript, look at the margins, these are the necromancer's own notes."
"So what?" I ask mockingly. She says that this means the text is correct and..."Ha! You were wrong and I was...," she pushes me to the floor.
"Oooh a new book," Barrel says as he comes in and sees the tome. He walks over to it but he knocked over by Shock telling him not to touch it with his grimy hands. "Aw, I wanted to look at the pictures." She says this isn't a story book. We needs to read it over before the time comes. "What's the rush?"
"The rush is that if we don't figure this out we can't bring the boss back," she says trying to figure out the passage. "Come on, we need to pay someone a visit," she says grabbing my brother and me by the arms and out the door.
Vlad
"The little badger is exhausted," I said watching the boy phase into his house. "Such a pity after all this is his big night," I stroked my cat who purred and rubbed up against me. "That is right my dear. We are going to ruin his happiness." I take out a small whistle from my pocket.
My cat shrieks in pain as it hurts her ears and runs away to some place quiet. A moment later, my three ghost vultures phase into the room. "What is it this time Plasmius?" the leader, Anacletus, asks as if I interrupted something important. I tell them to lure Daniel to me "We would love to but we're in the middle of a Murder, She Wrote marathon and...," I blast them out of the sky. "Fine! Fine!" he groans and flies away.
"I do hope you get some rest. You will need it," I transform into Plasmius and teleport out of the room to begin my plan. "This time you will chose me!"
Sally
"Jack! I was so worried about you!" I rush outside to greet him at the door. He apologizes saying he got caught up in his research again. "You've checked the books over a thousand times. You're not going to find anything new about your brother." He says he is on the verge of finding the answer. "But you're running yourself ragged."
"Don't worry dear, this won't be like the last time," he says as I glare at him. He knows I hate when he makes jokes about that. He nearly got blown to bits and I would have ended in Oogie Boogie's soup. "Sorry love, I know that was a bad joke." He plops down in his favorite chair.
"Then the mayor comes to saying his favorite book on necromancy was stolen. I told him that it was probably misplaced." Zero comes over and licks his master's hand. Jack pets him as he tries to relax. "No rest for wicked I guess," he says chuckling.
"I have dinner in the fridge. It's roast vulture with mashed potatoes," he says he'll eat later, right now he needs to rest. "Okay honey," I kiss his cheek and head upstairs to think. Zero follows me worriedly. "This is the third week he's skipped dinner." I tell the ghost dog as he looks worried. "He's going work himself into a second grave. I wish there something I could do to help him."
