3. A Sudden Urge
"Becka!" was cried from far away with all day dreaming I had been doing on the way to school.
I wasn't watching and didn't break in time and hit the grey jeep/monster truck in front of us.
"What just happened? One minute I was waiting for a park and before I knew it..ah Gabs I can't get my foot loose!" I groaned in pain.
"Don't move Becka, I'll get your foot out!" came a strange but comforting voice from somewhere beside me.
I was still in the driver's seat of the truck and realized I couldn't move my foot from under the driver's pedal.
"I-My foot I can't ow move it!" I gasped in pain as a quick pair of hands carefully pulled my foot out.
"Hold onto my arm!" He said kindly "I'm going to move you onto the stretcher, you're being taken to the hospital for a check-up!" this strange voice said.
"Thank you! For saving me!" I said weakly trying to find this face of my "Hero" but he was gone and I was on the stretcher-bed.
"Rebecka!" I heard my father's unmistakable voice from not far away as I was wheeled into the ambulance with Gabi holding my hand looking shaken.
"Gabs? I'm so sorry I should have been paying attention!' I said trying to fight the tears of guilt over-flowing down my cheeks.
"It's not your fault Becks, I should have driven, I knew you weren't up to it today!" she replied squeezing my hand and attempting to smile.
Remembering his face clearly in my mind I looked at my sister "Gabs? Who took me out of the truck?" I asked as I flinched as the attendant began checking me over.
"Emmett Cullen, Alice's older brother! I don't know B it was strange…" she said trailing off.
Looking at her I could see that thankfully she was just badly shaken, worried but just shaken.
"Gabs? What's wrong?" I all but managed to whisper, but before Gabi could answer I was wheeled off in the emergency department to be checked over while my Dad and Gabi waited out in the waiting room.
As soon as I was discharged I bombarded Gabi with questions about what happened she wouldn't say! I had to stay for a while longer while a doctor checked my x-rays, it was then that my rescuer came to see me.
Alice lead the way looking as graceful as ever she came straight over to me, hugged me and said "This is my brother Emmett, Becka he was the one who pulled you from your truck. Gabi tells me you've been hounding her about who pulled you from your truck and then kept hounding her since you realized who it was?" she asked looking curious.
Shyly I said "I wanted to be the one to thank you personally Emmett so thank you!" I said smiling at this strange but attractive person standing in front of me, it was standing in the emergency room, talking to Emmett and Alice that I met their father, Dr. Carlisle Cullen.
"Rebecka! You are free to go as soon as you sign this form saying that you want to go home!" he said smiling and handing me the forms and a pen.
Gabi had been in the room and she smiled encouragingly as I took the forms.
"Thank you!" I said, "Am I allowed to go back to school today?" I asked worried at the amount of school I was missing.
"Um, I would rather you went home and rested you could have a delayed concussion, but I'd like to remind you that if you have any dizziness or anything please come back!" he said as I handed him back the signed paperwork.
"Certainly thank you so much Dr. Cullen! Thanks again Alice, Emmett!" I said waving as Gabi and I walked out into the waiting room; and found that we were followed by Alice and to my utter surprise Emmett.
"Gabi? Would you like a lift back to school?" Alice asked as her and Emmett caught up with us.
"Um, no thank you I'm going to go home with Becka!" Grabbing Gabi's arm I turned to Alice and said "No Gabs, you go back, I need to know what I need to work on tonight!" I said nodding a silent word of thanks to Alice.
"Would you by any chance be able to help me study Alice?" I asked slightly surprised at myself, just as she was.
"Sure! I'll go back to school and come home with Gabi tonight if that's ok? I'll double check with my parents but I'd love to come! Emmett you'd better go, Rose will get annoyed…" Alice said pushing him ahead of her as Gabi and her lead the way out into the parking lot.
"Gabi? Can you ask Angela about tonight?" I said giving her an awkward hug before getting into Dad's police cruiser.
"Sure!" Said Gabi smiling as she waved and reluctantly followed Alice and Emmett towards their car-the-giant-monster truck.
As I buckled my seat belt I noticed my father staring at me "Okay Dad, you're gunna burn a hole in my face if you don't stop staring at me. I'm fine, I promise! I just need to sleep!" I said reassuring him with a smile and an awkward pat on the arm.
"If you say so Rebecka, I'm wondering if I should allow this get together tonight. You're looking so pale." He said looking worried as we pulled into the driveway.
"You'll need to call your Mum when you get inside too." he said sounding embarrassed.
"Did you tell her?" I asked attempting to sound as mad as I felt.
"She rang while Mark was taking the call at the station, it came over my radio while I was on the phone, she heard your girl's names and got worried I said I would take the case and get you to call her when you got home." he said sounding defensive.
"You realize she's probably just freaking out!" I said as I got out of the car, slammed the door and started up the steps before he was even out of the car.
When I rang Mum was in hysterics, I told her over and over that we were fine, that Gabi was back at school but because of me driving the Doctor (Cullen) had said for me to rest, it took even longer to convince her that we wanted to stay in Forks and not come home but surprisingly I managed it.
After convincing her I realized how tired I was, so I laid my head down on my pillow still unable to get that gentle face out of my head. I had asked Dad about the Cullen's in the car, he seemed reluctant at first to answer my question (Why don't people like the Cullen's?) but soon realized I should know he said that Dr. Cullen and his wife moved here two years ago and that their children had been adopted, the Hale Twins (the blonde ones) were Dr. Cullen's wife's niece and nephew and the others were three siblings from somewhere in Alaska! They kept to themselves and not many people liked them because of that.
Dad said Forks was lucky because they came here; Mrs Cullen who worked at the school wanted to live in a small town.
He also said he's had no problem with their high-school aged children like he has with some of the other people's offspring. I just let him rattle on until it was out of his system.
I asked how he felt about them and he said that he got on well with them but they kept to themselves.
I woke to the sound of my sister unpacking her bag, "Oh sorry B I didn't mean to wake you! How are you feeling?" she asked looking worried as I sat up a little too quickly.
"Yeah I'm fine! Did I hear the boys downstairs?" I asked getting out of bed and remaking it while talking.
"Yes! Tai and Ben showed up literally just before Billy and Jacob, they're all downstairs are you sure you're up to this?" she said trying to sound strict.
"Yip! Now let's go call the pizza place before Dad attempts to cook!" I said trying to sound as outraged as I could.
After I had rung for pizza we headed outside to spend sometime with the boys and Gabi politely invited Jacob to come too, much to my disgust.
Once outside Jacob spotted Tai's Bike and asked if he could go for a ride I was surprised when Ben handed over the keys no questions-asked.
Jacob took his time on the bike which gave us the much needed time that Gabi and I had wanted.
"Thanks for that Ben. He's a little over-enthusiastic towards particularly B now! Watch out Tai you've got some competition!" said Gabi teasingly.
Ignoring this comment and turning to Tai I said "So when are you guys heading back home?" Trying not to sound too worried.
"We're going to go back tomorrow to discuss some things with our parents, Baby I-we want to move up here, Ben and I can stay with his uncle until we find a place of our own. We'll enrol in school here so we can spend more time with you two." said Tai placing his arm around me as we sat down on the love seat opposite Gabi and Ben.
"No Tai, Ben I think it's best for now that we test the long-distance, Gabi and I need to get settled and I'm not saying that we don't appreciate the whole sacrifice to be together but I don't think you guys should move up here yet, wait a little bit longer to see where we go!" I said surprised at myself and was relieved to see Gabi nodding along with what I said.
At that moment Jacob arrived back on Ben's bike so it became difficult for Tai and Ben to voice their opinions on what I had said but I knew I had hurt at least Tai.
This made me uncomfortable but happy at the same time.
The game started shortly after the pizza arrived surprisingly Tailer and Ben were just as eager to watch the game as Jacob so Gabi and I escaped to our room and completed our homework.
"So what did I miss when you got back to school? Hey who's car did we hit?" I asked as Gabi passed me her notes from Biology and French.
"It turned out to be Mike Newtons Van! Jessica was really mad when she found out because you know she has a huge crush on Mike!" she said, I smiled slightly at this information.
"Becks, why are you smiling? If you hadn't been hurt Jessica would have given you an earful, it was bad enough I had to hear her complain about it in the lunch room today! GOSH!" Gabi said as she opened her Trig text book shaking her head.
All of a sudden I felt so self-fish, I hadn't paused to think what Gabi was going through, all I had been able to think about -which seemed so stupid now- was Emmett Cullen. God! Why couldn't I think of anyone but myself for once! Why just once? I thought to myself before answering my sister.
"You're right Gabs, I'm sorry, hey I know this is going to sound weird but is Emmett Cullen 'Dating' that Rosalie chick?" I asked trying not to sound mad or jealous.
She thought that I was very readable and I knew that she would know straightaway if I showed anything, "B? You're not jealous are you?" she asked smirking.
Great! I thought to myself "What? No of course not Gabi, don't be ridiculous I'm with Tai!" I said attempting yet again to convince myself.
Before Gabi could reply we heard a ruckus of movement downstairs.
"Gabi, Becks the games over!" called Dad from downstairs, sighing Gabi and I put down our books and headed down the stairs, as we did I remembered something that was meant to happen after school but didn't.
"Gabi what happened to our apparent study session after school?" I asked trying not to sound like I was disappointed.
"Oh Angela couldn't get a hold of her parents and Alice's sister Rosalie wanted to go shopping so Alice did that instead but they said another day as long as we give them notice! We did kind of spring it on them Becks, I know you want to make friends and all but come on we just got here!" she said smiling at me as we meet up with the boys busy discussing the game.
"That last shot right on the buzzer Man" Tailer was saying as we reached them.
"Good game boys?" I asked taking Tai's hand as Jacob wheeled his Dad out the door to the car.
"Yeah! I couldn't believe that last shot baby you should have seen it I reckon I could have made that shot though!" Tai said bragging and punching Ben's shoulder as Dad, Gabi and I waved good-bye to Jacob and Billy who were driving away.
"I'm sure you could Tai!" said Dad, this surprised both Gabi and I for we weren't sure how our father would re-act to our relationship with them.
"What time do you boys head back in the morning?" he (Dad) asked as we headed back inside where Gabi and I began to clean up the kitchen from tea.
"Um, probably not till the afternoon." said Ben smiling as he hugged Gabi.
"Why don't you boys come and join us for breakfast? It's Gabi and Beck's turn to cook tomorrow and they always make more than enough!" Dad said as I chucked Tai a tea towel and started running the water for this dishes.
"That would be great, thanks for the invite Mr Shaw!" Tai said as he high-fived Ben.
"Call me Jack Tai; it sounds too formal as Mr Shaw! Makes me feel old!" Dad complained as he grabbed another tea towel and started to dry with the dishes with Tai and Ben.
"Right, well seeing as most of these are done now, I'll leave you kids to clean up and I think I'll punch the sack!" said Dad hugging Gabi and I as he hung his towel back up almost forty-five minutes later.
"Okay, night Daddy!" Gabi and I called as we finished wiping the bench and turning to smile at the boys.
Turning to Tai I grabbed his towel and whipped him lightly across the leg with it.
"Oi!" he said grabbing not just the towel but me as well.
"Nah let me go and I'll (squeak) give you the towel!" I said as he hugged me and dug me in the ribs.
"Fine!" he replied a little disappointed.
Glancing at Gabi I realized Ben had wiped her too but it was across the back instead.
"Gabs?" I asked now sounding worried.
"I'm (whack) fine Becks hahaha got you baby!" She cooed now poking her tongue out at Ben.
Laughing I lead Tai towards the couch in the lounge to relax for another ten minutes before bed. I was determined that I would be going to school tomorrow so an early night was guaranteed.
Tailer sat down beside me shortly followed by Ben and Gabi who took the other chair like Dads, the other lazy boy I remember fighting over with Gabi as a child.
"You'd better go before this gets out of hand Tai; we have school tomorrow too I don't want to miss anymore! I know it doesn't sound like me but in Forks you need to be open minded!" I said as I kissed him and lead the way out to their bikes.
"Okay! That's cool baby! We'd better get an early night if we're gonna be here for breakfast in the morning aye!" Tai replied unable to stop smiling as Gabi and Ben began saying their goodbyes.
"Goodnight!" "Cool!" I said kissing him lightly but surprisingly passionately. As the boys left about ten minutes later, Gabi and I were inside and locking up as we headed upstairs glancing at her before saying "Have we done the right thing? Getting back with them? It's just that I can't stop thinking about the reluctance in his eyes today!" I said trying not to say his name, it made my heart beat faster just thinking about him.
"What? You mean Emmett Cullen?" Gabi asked as we closed the door of our bedroom and got ready for bed.
"Yeah! I think I've got a thing for him!" I said reluctantly admitting the known truth.
"Ahh you think?" She said sarcastically as she turned out the light.
"I think I'm in the same boat but with the other brother, Edward!" Gabi said with a sense of certainty in her voice.
"Then what are we doing messing with Tai and Ben?" I asked realizing that this was something I had to know before I faced Tai the next day.
"I don't know B, maybe this thing with the Cullen's will pass, I mean maybe it's just a crush! We can't do anything about it anyway, for one we're with the boys and two Emmett's taken and Edward's out of town!" Gabi said disappointed.
"Oh, you like him don't you Gabs?" I asked as we lay there in the dark talking.
"No!" She said attempting to sound outraged by such a suggestion.
"Gabi, you know I won't tell! Heck come on I've just admitted to liking his brother! It's not like Ben's gonna find out!" I said rolling over to face her bed, trying to look at her face as clearly as I could in the darkness.
"I know that B, but it doesn't feel right to talk about this sort of thing! Can we just drop it for now please?" she asked rolling over to face the wall instead of me.
Sensing that these words had somehow hurt her I stopped talking and closed my eyes and tried hard to have a clean boy-free dreamless night.
Unfortunately this was not the case I couldn't control my dreams the Cullen siblings and Tailer wove in and out and by the time I finally drifted to sleep it was almost three-thirty in the morning.
All night I fought a battle with myself regarding my boyfriend Tai and this Emmett Cullen, by the time I got up in the morning I was still undecided in what I was going to do but I had decided that I wasn't going to break it off with Tai until I knew how I felt about either party.
As I remembered that Tai and Ben were coming over for breakfast I decided to get up.
Glancing at the clock it said five-thirty perfect I thought to myself, first a shower and then to go down and make breakfast which should have kept me busy but it didn't to my disgust.
I had all those things completed in less than an hour and there was still enough time for me to think about Emmett yet again.
The main thing that I kept thinking about him was the fact I was in a relationship. How this tied into it I was still trying to figure out, but the way I felt about Emmett was the way I had wanted Tai when we first got together and yet it was as though he didn't matter anymore.
Even while asleep I couldn't escape him, he was constantly on my mind and I didn't know what I could do about it.
Alice had said he was with Rosalie which was news that totally sucked, I knew them being together shouldn't worry me, but it did, it worried me because I kept being able to picture myself with him instead.
Then there was Gabi and the way she kept talking about Edward, I could see it in her eyes when she spoke about him.
It was the same way I felt about Emmett, maybe even stronger.
What had Gabi and I gotten ourselves into? I pondered this to myself in the kitchen deciding what else to make, I had already pre-made the batter mix for pancakes, the bacon had defrosted and I had mixed the eggs together.
I knew these were Tailer and Ben's favourite things and Gabi's too.
I decided that I would chop up some mushrooms and tomatoes for Dad.
It was about twenty-five minutes later that both Gabi and Dad came downstairs, I decided to call Tai to see what time they were coming because I had decided while preparing our deluxe breakfast that I wanted to talk to my sister for a while before school.
We had to discuss what to do about these feelings towards the Cullen brothers and decide on how to do it without hurting Tai and Ben but also keeping it from out Police Chief father. Putting the bacon and the eggs on I rang Tai on the phone, it rung and rung until Tai picked up "Hey Babe, we're on our way now! See you soon!" I knew they were here for they both had walked through the door and hugged both Gabi and I.
"Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Scrambled Eggs, Pancakes and Bacon for breakfast this morning!" I said sighing as I hung up the phone.
"Mmm yum! That sounds yummy B thanks!" Dad said hugging me briefly before turning and hugging Gabi.
An hour and a half later the dishes were done, Gabi and I had our bags packed and we were outside leaning against the truck saying what felt like yesterday another good-bye to Tailer and Ben.
"I really need to think about things Tai, being in Forks has opened my eyes and I know we're together and all but I want you to know that this may not last forever. I want you to know that you will always have a part of my life, and most importantly my heart!" I said kissing him again.
"I'm still in love with you and probably will be forever!" Gabi said hugging Ben before sliding into the passenger's seat of the truck to wait for me.
"I'd better go, call me tonight?" I asked climbing into the cab.
"Sure!" Tail replied hugging me before shutting the door behind me.
"B, I know this may sound strange but I think you're in love with more than one guy!" Gabi said as I reversed out of our drive and drove down the road.
"I know Gabi that sounds about right! I think the same applies to you too though Gabs, you wouldn't stop talking about Edward in your sleep last night!" I said turning briefly to smile at her as we hit the main road that lead to school.
This weekend had passed so quickly with Tai and Ben around.
There was so much to think about and I didn't know where to start.
I decided that I would make Gabi sit in the car and talk about this for a while before school, to at least help get some things off our minds or try to anyway.
I couldn't help but look around as we pulled into the parking lot we both began searching for the Cullen's, I wanted, no I needed to see Emmett again and I had decided to try if possible to talk to him although I didn't think that was going to be possible with Rosalie around she seemed almost possessive of him, it didn't seem right.
There they were standing by their cars; the silver Volvo was still gone.
So that meant Edward was still missing. Forcing myself to turn away from them I turned to Gabi and asked "What are you going to do? I know you're crazy about Edward, but you also have a boyfriend!" I said now forcing her to look away also.
"I don't know Becks, but you've got Tai to think about as well!" She reminded me.
Sighing I looked over to where the Cullen's were standing huddled together out of the cold, Jasper and Alice were busy staring at each other (from here it looked cute) Rosalie was busy, I guess you could say checking herself out in the reflection of her bright red convertible side mirror and Emmett, well Emmett was looking just as gorgeous and HOT as ever!
"SNAP OUT OF IT BECKS!" Gabi said smacking me in the arm, when I noticed a little too late that Emmett was looking back at me and before I knew it so were the other Cullen's.
Rosalie was naturally the first to react she moved so gracefully to where he stood, putting her umbrella up so I couldn't see him anymore.
Annoyed I sighed and forced myself to look away glancing at the truck clock I turned to Gabi and said "Come on, we'll be late for class! Gym first so we'd better hurry." Jumping out of the cab and putting my bag on my back I locked the truck.
"Whatever!" Gabi muttered as we hurried through the rain.
Gym was a complete and utter nightmare! We started off in groups to work on how to hit the ball for our volleyball the next day! We then took turns in groups practicing, much to my annoyance Eric and Mike were a little over-excited about helping Gabi and I with the positions and movements needed.
"This isn't necessary Eric, Mike. Gabi and I know how to play Volleyball, I was on the team back in Phoenix." I said as the boys hit the plastic balls away from where we were standing.
This was not a lie I had been on the team; our team had won all their games.
I loved being on that team. It was how I met Tai, through his sister.
Gabi had met Ben through Tai when him and I got together.
Tai and I had been together for 3 years before things got difficult.
He was the high-school sweetheart! Ben and Gabi had been rockier than us but had been together about the same length of time.
Picking up where we left off just didn't seem to cut it!
I thought to myself as class ended and we changed and headed to Biology.
"Becka? I was wondering if you wanted to do something with me this weekend?" asked Mike as I realized he and Eric were tagging along with Gabi and I to our next class, I smiled at this for some reason.
"Mike I have a boyfriend! So does Gabi!" I said trying not to sound as harsh as I wanted to as I knew I had already punctured his ego.
"Oh! Since when?" Mike asked to my disgust looking more interested than before.
"Since about a month ago, he's moving up here sometime soon too, to be closer to me, I'm.. I didn't mean to offend you or anything!" I said now feeling guilty although had told the truth I couldn't figure out why I felt so stink.
"No that's cool, thanks for being so honest!" he said smiling as we reached our desks in Biology.
Smiling I caught Alice's eye but looked away quickly remembering this morning...to my utter surprise Alice came over to where I sat by myself.
