Max felt exhausted after that trial, Jimmy was confused about what was going on and Roxanne was getting really stressed. Then George joined them on the stairs outside the courthouse. He was as just as tired and stressed as they were. Then he offered everyone some sandwiches he made for his lunch. They weren't restaurant quality, but because they were too tired to care, they just took them and thanked George for his efforts and kindness. They had to admit that they enjoyed them a lot more than they thought they would.
"Hi-yuck!"
All four of them turned to see Goofy approaching the courthouse and he wasn't alone. He was with his friends Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie Duck and Webby Vanderquack.
"Hiya, everyone," Goofy said. "How's the trial goin'?"
"Well, the jury is making their minds up, Dad," Max said.
"And it's gone a lot quicker than we thought it would," George said.
"That's my boy!" Scrooge cried happily. "See, Goofy? I told ya no one could stand a chance against George Lawton!"
"Thanks, Mr. McDuck," George said.
"Dad, did you come here because you're worried about us?" Max asked.
"No, no, no, no, no, not at all, laddie." It was Scrooge who answered that. "The kids and I are taking your papa to the greatest, biggest, most delicious, most scrumptious adventure ever."
"A picnic," Huey explained.
"Yeah!" Louie cried. "And we have no interest in what's going to happen to Morton Enterprises if this bad guy Jake is found guilty."
Max didn't need to look at Scrooge and the other young ducks giving Louie hard glares to know that he didn't believe any of the newcomers.
"Is Sylvia with you, Dad?" Max asked.
"No, son," Goofy said. "She's gone to see her mother, who's feelin' a bit ill. I did offer to join her, but she insisted she'd be okay."
Then a courthouse guard arrived and told Max, Roxanne, Jimmy and George it was time to go back to the courtroom.
"But it's only been two hours," Roxanne said. "What about the other three?"
"The sooner we go back in there," George said, "the sooner we will find out."
"Oh, gosh!" Goofy cried.
"Don't worry, Dad," Max said. "What will happen will happen and we will deal with it the best way. That's what you always said to me when I was younger."
Goofy was glad that his son remembered that and took it to heart. "Well, good luck, guys."
Scrooge and the young ducks all cheered with Goofy and cried out many things like, "Give that flea-bitten snob a taste of his own medicine", "Give him what he deserves" and "We'll back up, no matter what" among the many things they said.
"Don't worry, Roxanne," Max said, taking her hand. "No matter what happens after this trial, I'll be here for you."
"I know, Max," she said. "And thanks."
Everyone returned to their seats in the courtroom.
"The jury has had two hours to come to a decision," the judge said. "That is three hours earlier than I have given them. Anyway, what verdict has the jury reached?"
Everyone held their breath and looked worried, except Jake and his lawyers who were looking smug and confident.
One member from the jury rose. "We find Jake Morton..."
Everyone continued to hold their breath and pray.
"…guilty…"
They were pleased that Jake was found guilty, but of what?
"…of everything he is accused off."
Max, Roxanne and George felt relieved. Everyone, except Jake and his lawyers, in the courtroom cheered. Even the Morton Enterprises staff members cheered, even though they could lose their job.
The judge banged his gavel and cleared his throat. "It is now my duty to pronounce sentence," the judge said. "For all the crimes he has been found guilty off, Jacob Morton is sentenced to twenty years in prison without any special entitlements of any kind. His properties, lands and businesses now belong to the trust fund of his son James Morton, made for him by his grandfather Gary Morton. All of Jacob's money - every single penny - is to be passed into his son's trust fund, with the exception of five million dollars of compensation each for Max Goof and Roxanne. And as for James Morton himself, I am rewarding full custody to Roxanne. Case dismissed."
Everyone cheered as they saw Jake being taken away from the tough guards. Jake shouted all things like, "I've been framed!" and "I'm actually innocent!" among many things he cried, but no one cared as the guards escorted him out.
George shook hands with Max, Roxanne and Jimmy and gave Jake's lawyers a smug look.
Max, Roxanne and Jimmy all hugged each other.
"Does this mean you're my mommy, Auntie Roxanne?" Jimmy asked.
"I am now, officially, Jimmy, yeah."
"Oh, goody!" Jimmy cried happily.
And Roxanne was happy as he was.
It was time to leave the courthouse. It was surrounded by press. Though most of them were focusing on Jake and his lawyers and their failures, some of them crowded Max, Roxanne, Jimmy and George. They tried to squeeze past them, but the press kept on taking photos and asking questions too quickly.
Then some of the press turned away when they saw Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby playing awful music and dancing terribly. Then Max, Roxanne, Jimmy and George realized that they were doing it to distract the press so Goofy and Scrooge could rescue them and took them to Scrooge's limousine.
"Thanks for helping us out back there," Max said to everyone.
"Where to, Mr. McD?" asked Launchpad, the driver, after everyone got in.
"Any suggestions, laddie?" Scrooge asked Max.
"The park." That was all he could think off in an emergency. "There's only one in this town."
"To the park, Launchpad," Scrooge ordered. "And not the parking lot."
They soon arrived at the park, but not without Launchpad crashing the limo into a tree. Then Goofy, Max, Roxanne and Launchpad got busy arranging the picnic stuff while George was talking to Scrooge and Jimmy was having an "adventure" with young ducks. Then it was time to have the picnic.
Goofy got out a plastic cup. "Well, here's a toast to the victory in the trial today."
"To the victory today!" Everyone cried as they joined Goofy's toasting
"And to putting that horrible man in prison where he belongs!" Webby cheered.
"And without entitlement!" Dewey added. "Yay!"
"But I bet the employees of Morton Enterprises are going to come after us for putting them out of work," Max said.
"I can help you with that," Scrooge said. "George has just been explaining to me what the judge ordered. If I buy Morton Enterprises, all the employees can keep their jobs and the money I use to buy go straight into Jimmy's trust fund."
"That's great, Mr. McDuck!" Max cried.
"Thanks, Mr. McDuck," Roxanne said. "Thanks, George."
"Whenever everyone is ready, I shall get the contracts ready," George said.
"George, you sound like you have become Jimmy's official lawyer," Max said.
"According to the law, I am," George said.
"Well, how bout another toast?" Goofy asked, holding his cup out. "To secure businesses and lawyers and all that stuff."
No one argued and joined in the toasting.
