Author Notes: Hello again! Thanks for the good comments so far, I'm trying my best to release chapters but as I've stated before updates will be slow. However, I made this chapter a bit bigger than my previous ones so have fun with the reading!
Update Note: The next chapter will take a lot more time to release, since I'm taking a small break from writing for a bit I have no eta on the release date.
Boyzilla (Beta Reader) Notes: Slow but steady wins the race.
FAQ:
The rule of: If someone is summoned or reincarnated into this world, they get a wish?
- This is at my discretion, but since Satoru was previously a human playing an in-game character, I will logically say that his wish was becoming his in-game character and gain all the powers that proceed with it.
Ainz Ooal Gown vs. Rimuru, who is going to win
- I will not answer these! As stated in Chapter 1 Notes.
The Overlord in the world of Reincarnated as a Slime
Chapter 3: A Supreme One's Orders
Ainz walked around the outskirts of the Goblin Village, patrolling the perimeter to see if there was anything interesting around. Finally, after a bit of walking, he stopped slightly away from the Goblin Village, he pulled out of his inventory a mask and two gloves, placed them on, and closed his robes to hide his undead nature.
`Let me see, I want a good look at my geological location and see my surroundings more clearly since I finally got away from everyone. This might be risky; I hope no one spots me.` Ainz thinks
"[Fly], let's see where I am," Ainz said.
Ainz flew up into the sky to see the geography of the forest, and he noticed that the environment spreads out for miles on end to the point that the horizon almost seemed to be only forest. However, a few mountains decorated the horizon, and what appears to be a swamp rested within the forest's boundaries.
`Maybe I should visit the swamp at some point. There might be some interesting findings there. Of course, it could also be the location of Pandora's Actor, but I highly doubt that I don't believe he could have transported to this world that far from me.`
He scanned around some more and noticed another village far in the distance. However, unlike the goblin village, this one appeared more structured and organized than the goblins. But, it caught his interest; there might be other leading factors inside this dense forest the goblins call home.
`The quality of that village is far more impressive than the goblins' broken down huts. I'll visit that shortly but first.` He looks over to the Goblin Village, looking down, seeing Rimuru prepare for Wolf's attacks.
`For now, I'll observe my little friend and see what he's capable of,` Ainz thought.
Rimuru saw the sunset and the moon appear as he heard the howls of wolves off in the distance. All the goblins behind him held crude spears and bows and were prepared for combat.
`Seems like they aren't that good with blacksmithing or carpentry; even the wooden wall they built is not in good shape. It's of horrible quality, and it seems like I'd break if I touched it! To call it a wall is an over-statement. It's more like a fence, but I guess I did say fence in the first place.` Rimuru felt embarrassed about his miswording.
The slime sighed, Well, it's time, I'll just make these defenses a little better [Skill: Sticky Thread], [Skill: Steel Thread]" Rimuru used the skills to make sticky thread around the outer layer of the wall and more stealthily applied steel thread at its edges.
`This should slow any charge the dire wolves make at the fence, although I hope the goblins are somewhat good with their bows and spears if we need them. Unfortunately, it will become highly inconvenient if they cannot use ordinary weaponry, so I'll have to find someone skilled enough to teach them.`
Off in the distance, the dire wolves arrived on top of a hill, staring downward at the goblin village, preparing to charge. The largest dire wolf inside the group glanced at the moon as a sign of approval. However, he noticed a figure floating in the sky bathed in the moonlight, a creature in dark robes with a red mask…
He had a sense of dread and fear while looking at the figure, and chills went down the wolf's spine like he was staring at death and death stared right back at him in disapproval. He decided to ignore the floating creature. He did not want fear to stop what was about to come, his victory!
`No, I can not feel fear in this time of need; I must take down this disgrace of a race that has been living in the Forest of Jura,` the wolf thought to himself.
He discarded the foreboding presence he saw and floating in the sky and focused on the violence that he wanted to commit against the fledgling Goblin Village.
The pack leader spoke up, "Tonight we lay waste to the goblin village! And take our first steps toward conquering the Forest of Jura… Onward my fellow companions! Slaughter them all!"
With the pack's morale at an all-time high, they charged down the hill towards the village.
"Lord Rimuru, they're charging down towards us," The elder said.
"I see, thank you, Elder," Rimuru replied.
Rimuru looked up and saw a large number of wolves charging at the goblin village, and he hoped his plan would work.
`So they've come… let's see if my Sticky Threadworks well. If not, I might have to think of something else quickly,` Rimuru thought to himself.
As the wolves charged at the fence, they got stuck on what seemed to be sticky and sharp threads. The goblins saw that the wolves had fallen into the trap their Lord Rimuru had placed and let loose a volley of arrows hitting the invading wolves. As the arrows fell, the objects penetrated through the wolf's skin, causing yelps of pain to cry out of the pack, many attempting to rid themselves of the web only to continue falling from the goblins' continued retaliation.
"What is this!" The pack leader yelled in shock, and as confusion
In the leader's distress, the morale of the wolves began to falter, yet some of the wolves managed to make it to the wooden fence despite the threats. However, when attempting to breach the fence, the goblins holding spears promptly stabbed at the wolves' heads, injuring or killing them outright.
"This will not happen… I cannot lose to a lonely slime and merger goblins!" The pack leader charged courageously and foolishly. "I'm strong enough to break through these threads; the blood of my fellow wolves lets me see where the strings are! I. Can. Break. Through!" He roared in defiance.
However, not all of the wolf pack had charged to their impending doom, a portion of the pack remaining in reserves stood behind, led by another notable wolf with a star emblem on his forehead. "Father, no! Don't charge in so recklessly!" The wolf cried out in vain.
The father ignored the son, overcome by rage, "I will murder you, slime! Come here and face death at my fangs!" The pack leader shouted with malice.
He managed to bypass the threads and breach the fence, charging at Rimuru with incredible speed, But as he jumped at Rimuru, his movement was suddenly halted by a combination of threads.
"Nice try… But, unfortunately, you fell right into my [Sticky Threads]." Rimuru said, having prepared for this moment when the pack leader first charged.
"[Skill: Water Blade]!" Rimuru shouted as a blade of pressured water shot out from his body towards the pack leader, severing the wolf's head at the moment of contact, blood splattered everywhere and the body hangs from the sticky threads as the head fell to the ground with a solid audible thump. Rimuru let the threads loose and the body fell to the ground in front of the entire wolf group.
Without their leader, the remaining wolves hesitate, unable to proceed further without clear direction and under shock from their pack leader's quick death.
Rimuru took this chance and yelled, "Listen up Dire Wolves! Your boss is now dead! You now have a choice, your life is in your paws! Your choice is simple: fealty or death!"
`Ahhh nooo! I forgot that they could've just fled. Why did I jump to badass quotes! Wait, wait, wait… Maybe it worked, maybe they'll still just go away! I hope they don't decide to go the suicide route and charge all at once.` Rimuru's mind raced frantically.
However, Rimuru saw the wolves did not move, he realizes they may still be in shock from the sudden lack of leadership.
`Ah, wait, yeah that's got to be it! Without a leader, they have no directions! They don't know what to do… Wait, what if I..?` Rimuru thought up an idea and used his skill [Predator] to swallow up their old leader's body, morphing into him to become their leader in front of the pack. "[Mimic: Dire Wolf]."
With a booming voice, Rimuru shouted, "Listen here! I shall overlook your actions this one time if you leave! Now, depart before I kill you all! Go!"
But the Dire Wolves instead went forward towards him in contrast to his words, they continued closer to Rimuru's position with seemingly pure determination.
`What are they doing!? Don't they know I'm trying to let them live? Do they still want to fight? I have to think of something quick to make them run away, I don't want to have to kill them. It would set a bad example of what I hope to show from myself!` Rimuru thought in panic.
Ainz was intrigued by how Rimuru handled the situation. However he was curious as to why the wolves hadn't fled, it should be obvious that Rimuru was stronger than they could handle.
`The wolves should have fled when they had the chance; Rimuru might need to kill them, although I don't think my slimy friend has the will to do it. He's giving them far too many chances, they've gone past the boundary of redemption. Another thing that hit my interest is that it seems my friend can morph into different beings just like a Doppelganger. I'll have to question him on this later, for now, I think I'll assist him since he seems to have remorse for them, which will not do.` Ainz thought to himself.
Ainz made the decision to intervene in this little war, he flew down to Rimuru and landed back on the solid ground, with his mask and gloves tightly still fitted on.
Rimuru is shocked by Ainz's sudden showing and expresses a state of curiosity as he notices the undead's apparel Ainz prepared himself to fight the dire wolves in front of him and give them a quick and painless end.
"Since you will not listen to Rimuru, I'll handle you all myself… I'll give you all a painless death, fast and easy, you will not even feel it."
The Overlord reached for his mask and slowly started to take it off, his red glowing eyes in an ominous way. Then, he started to say a few words which Rimuru tried in vain to recognize.
"Time to end this [Despair Aura-]" Ainz halted himself as the wolves suddenly bowed in submission before the two of them.
"We pledge our loyalty to you, our new master!" The pack shouted.
Both Ainz and Rimuru responded in unison, "H-huh?!"
`Why do they do this now!? They could have done this earlier! I was about to kill them all with my skill! I barely avoided doing that, it could've ended badly!` Ainz panicked in his head
Instantly, some sort of internal force forcefully calmed Ainz back to his senses and rationality.
Rimuru, on the other hand, recovered quickly to the wolf's proclamation. He decided to accept the wolves without caring about Ainz's thoughts, fortunately, the Overlord agreed with the slime's decision anyway, and they began the process of organizing the wolf's introduction into the village...
In the early morning light of the next day; Rimuru met with the goblins' Elder and Ainz Ooal Gown at the village's center. Here, the entirety of the village and the wolf pack waited to hear the next course of action from the three leading figures.
Rimuru was still trying to process the events of the prior night, `Well, that was unexpected, I thought I'd have to kill the wolves, but it seems they only wanted to pledge their loyalty to me. This turned out better than I expected. Although, I'm a bit curious about something. I've never heard anyone have names so far?` Rimuru thought.
Rimuru looked at the Elder, giving off the impression that he's about to start a conversation with the old man.
"Hey Elder, what is your name?" Rimuru asked.
The elder seemed surprised at the question, but replied, s."Well, Lord Rimuru, we don't require names… Because we communicate by telepathy so we know who we're speaking to anyways."
`Well this will be troublesome, I don't like having conversations without names. It can become bothersome, I guess I'll have to do something about it.` Rimuru thought.
"Well then! I'll just have to name every single one of you then, including the dire wolves that we've taken in~!" Rimuru exclaimed.
"Lord Rimuru, are you sure you want to name us!?" The elder yelled in shock.
"Yeah, I'm sure it isn't that big of a deal to name people; anyways everyone stands in a line please." Rimuru requested.
All the goblins seemed excited, the elder the most dancing around in excitement about receiving a name. The dire wolves are eager as well, most of them wagging their tails around.
Rimuru started naming each goblin one by one, giving them random names since he can't think of anything except generic names. He then got to the dire wolves and named the four with iconic stars on the head.
"You're the new pack leader, huh? I know what to call you Ranga!" Rimuru announced and Ranga lit up, however, Rimuru started to turn into a mushy-like state.
"Lord Rimuru!" The elder shouted while the slime went into a deep slumber.
["Entering sleep mode"], Great Sage said.
The elder goes to Rimuru looking a bit concerned.
"Oh, he used too many magicules to name us all. I should've warned him about this," the elder explained.
Ainz noticed Rimuru turning into mush, and he wrapped Rimuru into what seemed like blue silk so that Rimuru could stay warm. He then placed Rimuru inside of a nearby hut. The goblins and wolves were wary of him, although he could be seen as their ally, he was quite an unknown and his inactivity in the prior battle had worked against him. Still, he stuck around and observed Rimuru's actions, particularly when he started to name them.
`What did the elder say? "Running out of Magicules?" Ah, so it's like running out of mana, once you run out you can't use magic anymore but also you enter this sleep state. That's informative. I can wear down any enemy I come across as long as they keep using more and more magicules.` Ainz thought.
Ainz reached into his inventory, a purple portal formed briefly, his hand entered and retracted out a pillow. He placed Rimuru on it and cast a few defensive buffs on the slime, nothing in the local area would be capable of harming him while Ainz was away...
`You did well, it's been entertaining for sure; it seems like I picked the suitable person to join on this journey.` Ainz complimented the slime in his mind.
"The Overlord turned to the goblin Elder, "Guard Rimuru until he recovers," He ordered.
"Y-Yes, my Lord!" The elder replied.
"Umu, good," Ainz said and went outside, walking a bit aimlessly as he pondered.
`Now that I think about it, I haven't tried communication magic, it normally only works between Players, but let's see…'.` Ainz wondered if it could work and headed to the village outskirts, after journeying a bit and finding a location that was peaceful, he decided to gamble the spell to see if he could find anyone or even Pandora's Actor.
"[Message], Hello? Is anyone out there?"
No response comes back to his message, but it wasn't static...
`Nothing? Is [Message] going through at all or does it perhaps not work in this world?`
Ainz's doubts are swat aside as the spell had picked-up audio and a voice responded to him.
["Lord Momonga! It is I! Pandora's Actor! I've been wondering where you've been all this time!"] Pandora's Actor said with enjoyment.
"Pandora's Actor, what's your current location, and what is around you?" Ainz questioned his creation.
"Well, Lord Momonga… I'm in a strange forest, so far I haven't found a way to you. However, I found an orc army and I started to follow them" Pandora's Actor answered.
`An orc army..? I wonder how much they number in, are they strong or not? This might be considered a threat to my safety and to others around me. I should ask Pandora for more information on them.` Ainz speculated.
"Pandora's Actor, what do they number in? Are they powerful?" Ainz says
"Well sir, I haven't counted their numbers as of yet but easily a few hundred and judging by their relative actions. I believe I could easily take them all if you wish Lord Momonga," Pandora's Actor answered.
`If I order him to take them all out this could eliminate my threat, but there's a high risk I'm underestimating them… However, I want them out of the way before they cause a problem,` Ainz thought to himself.
"Pandora's Actor…" Ainz began.
"Yes, Lord Momonga?" Pandora's Actor eagerly replied in wait.
Momonga had a bit of hesitation before giving the order thinking about what consequences this might hit him back with. However, after a bit more thought, he reasoned that the positives outweigh the negatives.
"Kill them all, do not show them an ounce of mercy. I want them out of the way before they cause a problem. But listen to me, if you see any of them as a threat to your life you back out immediately! Then contact me with a message straight away! Other than that, you are allowed to take my form or the other guild members that you deem the best fit for the situation. Now go!" Ainz ordered.
".. Lord Momonga, as you command, I will try my best to fulfill your expectations." Pandora's Actor responded.
The [Message]stopped, Ainz was mentally a little disturbed by the order he gave but felt no guilt for the lives he might have just ended. He turned back around and headed back into the village. He worried about what might happen to Pandora's Actor but he gave him clear instructions to back out if any threat arises.
However, Ainz starts to think of other things, should he improve the village?. How can he grow his own strength? Should he attempt to contact other villages that might be around or even bigger make a massive alliance? He thought of many ways to grow his power and instead decided, for now, to grow the power of the village in front of him to make it a settlement the core of his plans to come.
`It may not be Nazarick, it's more of a temporary residence for now. It is time to organize and restructure this disgrace for a village into a proper settlement.` Ainz thought.
He re-entered the village and took notice of an immediate change, the goblins and wolves were now mixed in with what appeared to be more evolved versions, with various lights surrounding and changing each of the demihumans into the evolved states… In the order that Rimuru had named them.
Interesting...
Pandora's Actor looked down at this so-called "Orc Army" and felt no remorse for what he was about to commit. Of course, he's following a great order from the most powerful Supreme One, his creator Lord Momonga!
Nothing can question a direct order from such a high being, not even the Gods can compare to Lord Momonga. It is every denizen of Nazarick's duty to serve their master, no matter the order, and no matter the cost. However, he must still pay attention because Lord Momonga had still informed him to back out if anything goes south.
`I will fulfill your wish, Lord Momonga, the most powerful Supreme Being of them all. I am proud to be created by you. Now let me show you my determination. Failure would be a travesty since I'm doing this under your name… There is no room for error.` Pandora's Actor thought.
Pandora's Actor moved towards the orc army. Finally heading outside of his hidden place and approaches what he finds as 'pest' that his master ordered to be killed.
The orcs felt a hit to their animal instinct, impending danger, and ready themselves. As they see a tall figure covered in shadow looming from the trees start to approach them even though he has no Magicules they all can not stop shaking even under the influence of [Starved] that they do not want to attempt to eat him.
"Let us start," Pandora's Actor began.
